Abstract
Belonging to the Fabaceae family, Dalbergia sissoo, a versatile plant, has gained prominence for its potent medicinal attributes, especially antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective properties, as well as the use of its leaf juice in cancer treatment. Despite these recognized applications by natives and tribals, comprehensive insight into its biological activities and chemical composition remains limited. This study aimed to explore the cytotoxic potential of sequentially extracted leaf extracts from Dalbergia sissoo using various solvents, aiming to unveil the array of phytochemicals through LC-MS profiling. Among the extracts evaluated, the extract employing methanol:water extracting media (HN-2) appeared with the most remarkable results in both phytochemical diversity and biological activity. Furthermore, in vitro results of HN-2's in vitro anticancer efficacy were confirmed through in silico molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation. These analyses demonstrated its ability to inhibit C-ABL kinase within leukemia K562 cells, directing that Dalbergia sissoo leaves serve as a bioactive agent reservoir. Consequently, this suggests that the Dalbergia sissoo plant is a potential source of bioactive compounds that can be used as a precursor for developing new cancer inhibitors, mainly targeting leukemia.

Abstract
Background:
Eremostachys macrophylla Montbr. & Auch. is one of the wild growing species of herbs found in East Azerbaijan province of Iran. These species are used in folk medicine for the healing of wound, treatment of snake bites, rheumatism and joint pains. The primary aim of this study was to obtain natural pure compounds and this was done by subjecting the aerial parts of Eremostachys macrophylla Montbr. & Auch. to phytochemical analysis. Methods: The air-dried and crushed aerial parts were respectively extracted with n-hexane, dichloromethane (DCM) and methanol (MeOH) solvents using a soxhlet apparatus. The 10%, 20% and 40% of MeOH in water Sep-Pak fractions of the MeOH extract were subjected to a preparative reversed- phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). Also, the isolated pure compounds were identified by one-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (1D-NMR) spectroscopic technique. Results: The results obtained in this study showed the presence of seven pure components; (1) Lamalbide, (2) Sesamoside, (3) Phlomiol, (4) Verbascoside, (5) Luteolin-7-O- glucoside, (6) Apigenin-7-O- rutinoside and (7) Kaempferol-3-O- glucoside with iridoid, phenylethanoid and flavonoid structures. Conclusion: The results from the study demonstrated that the aerial parts of E. macrophylla could be a good source of iridoids, phenylethanoids and flavonoids.

Abstract
Lawsone itself exhibits interesting biological activities, and its complexation with a metal center can improve the potency. In this context a cytotoxic Ru-complex, [Ru(law)(dppb)(bipy)] (law = lawsone, dppb = 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane and bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine), named as CBLAU, was prepared as reported. In this work, NMR binding-target studies were performed to bring to light the most accessible interaction sites of this Ru-complex toward Calf-Thymus DNA (CT-DNA, used as a model), in a similar approach used for other metallic complexes with anti-cancer activity, such as cisplatin and carboplatin. Advanced and robust NMR binding-target studies, among them Saturation Transfer Difference (STD)-NMR and longitudinal relaxometry (T1), were explored. The 1H and 31P -NMR data indicate that the structure of Ru-complex remains preserved in the presence of CT-DNA, and some linewidth broadening is also observed for all the signals, pointing out some interaction. Looking at the binding efficiency, the T1 values are highly influenced by the formation of the CBLAU-DNA adduct, decreasing from 11.4 s (without DNA) to 1.4 s (with DNA), where the difference is bigger for the lawsone protons. Besides, the STD-NMR titration experiments revealed a stronger interaction (KD = 5.9 mM) for CBLAU-DNA in comparison to non-complexed lawsone-DNA (KD = 34.0 mM). The epitope map, obtained by STD-NMR, shows that aromatic protons from the complexed lawsone exhibits higher saturation transfer, in comparison to other Ru-ligands (DPPB and bipy), suggesting the supramolecular contact with CT-DNA takes place by the lawsone face of the Ru-complex, possibly by a spatial π-π stacking involving π-bonds on nucleic acids segments of the DNA chain and the naphthoquinone group.

Abstract
The crystal structure of the new polymorphic form of 3-aminoflavone (3-AF) has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. This report presents results of fluorimetric studies on 3-AF in methanol and aquatic solvents. Based on 3D fluorescence emission spectra, optimal values for excitation (λex) and emission/analytical (λem) wavelength, the analytical concentration range as well as the range of concentration quenching for the studied compound were established. Moreover, the limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantification (LOQ) were determined. The results were compared with those obtained using the standard UV-Vis absorption spectrophotometric method. The effect of acidity (pH) and the concentration of halide anions (chlorides, bromides, iodides and fluorides) on fluorescence quenching were analysed.

Abstract
Several functionalized chromones, the key components of naturally occurring oxygenated heterocycles, have anticancer effects but their sulfone compounds are rarely investigated. In this study, we installed a sulfonyl substituent to chromen-4-one skeleton and synthesized CHW09 to evaluate its antioral cancer effect in terms of cell viability, cell cycle, apoptosis, oxidative stress, and DNA damage. In cell viability assay, CHW09 preferentially kills two oral cancer cells (Ca9-22 and CAL 27), less affecting normal oral cells (HGF-1). Although CHW09 does not change the cell cycle distribution significantly, CHW09 induces apoptosis validated by flow cytometry for annexin V and by western blotting for cleaved poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), and caspases 3/8/9. These apoptosis signaling expressions are partly decreased by apoptosis inhibitor (Z-VAD-FMK) or free radical scavenger (N-acetylcysteine). Furthermore, CHW09 induces oxidative stress validated by flow cytometry for the generations of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial superoxide (MitoSOX), and the suppression of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP). CHW09 also induces DNA damage validated by flow cytometry for the increases of DNA double strand break marker γH2AX and oxidative DNA damage marker 8-oxo-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG). Therefore, our newly synthesized CHW09 induces apoptosis, oxidative stress, and DNA damage, which may lead to preferential killing of oral cancer cells compared with normal oral cells.

Abstract
Background Fatness is an unwanted side effect of genetic selection in broiler chickens. In this study, we introduce mountain celery powder as a feed supplement to suppress lipogenesis and improve antioxidant status in broiler chickens. Male broiler chicks (Ross 308) were fed a control diet or a diet that includes mountain celery (MC) at 7.5 gkg−1over 42 days. Results Body weight gain and feed conversion ratio significantly (P < 0.05) improved in chicks fed MC. A highly significant down-regulation of genes involved in hepatic lipogenesis including acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACC), fatty acid synthase (FAS), malic enzyme (ME), and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) was observed in the liver of chickens fed MC. These birds, however, had greater compensatory upregulation in antioxidative genes SOD1 and catalase in the liver compared to the birds that received the control diet. Birds received MC had significantly lower level of lipid peroxidation (1.59 μmol/L serum malondialdehyde) compared to birds from the control group (3.57 μmol/L; P = 0.0024). Birds fed MC had significantly (P < 0.05) lower circulatory concentrations of triacylglycerols, cholesterol, and LDL but higher concentrations of HDL. Relative liver weight and abdominal fat deposition were significantly reduced by feeding MC. Conclusions It can be concluded that feeding birds MC significantly suppresses hepatic lipogenesis by down-regulating key hepatic lipogenic enzyme genes and boosts antioxidant capacity by up-regulating hepatic antioxidantive genes.

Abstract
The ready-to-eat produce market has grown rapidly because of the health benefits and convenience associated with these products. Onion is widely used as an ingredient in an extensive range of recipes from breakfast to dinner and in nearly every ethnic cuisine. However, cutting/chopping of onion is a nuisance to many consumers due to the lachrymatory properties of the volatiles generated that bring tears to eyes and leave a distinct odor on hands. As a result, there is now an increasing demand for fresh-cut, value-added, and ready-to-eat onion in households, as well as large-scale uses in retail, food service, and various food industries, mainly due to the end-use convenience. Despite these benefits, fresh-cut onion products present considerable challenges due to tissue damage, resulting in chemical and physiological reactions that limit product shelf-life. Intensive discoloration, microbial growth, softening, and off-odor are the typical deteriorations that need to be controlled through the application of suitable preservation methods. This article reviews the literature related to the fresh-cut onion, focusing on its constituents, nutritional and health benefits, production methods, quality changes throughout storage, and technologies available to increase product shelf-life.

Abstract
This paper describes the synthesis of trans-bis-(3-aminoflavone)dichloridoplatinum(ii) (trans-Pt(3-af)2Cl2; TCAP) for use as a potential anticancer compound, and the evaluation of its structure by elemental and spectral analyses, and X-ray crystallography. The complex demonstrated a significant cytotoxic effect against human and murine cancer cell lines, as well as weaker toxicity towards healthy cells (human peripheral blood lymphocytes) in comparison with cisplatin. Various biochemical and morphological methods confirm that the proapoptotic activity of trans-Pt(3-af)2Cl2 is markedly higher than the reference cisplatin. Our results suggest that trans-Pt(3-af)2Cl2 may have a different antitumour specificity from that of cisplatin.

Abstract
This study selectively acylated the primary hydroxyl groups on flavonoids in antioxidant of bamboo leaves (AOB) using lauric acid with Candida antarctica lipase B in tert-amyl-alcohol. The separation and isolation of acylated derivatives were performed using silica gel column chromatography with a mixture of dichloromethane/diethyl ether/methanol as eluents. Both thin layer chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography analyses confirmed the high efficiency of the isolation process with the purified orientin-6″-laurate, isoorientin-6″-laurate, vitexin-6″-laurate, and isovitexin-6″-laurate that were obtained. The addition of AOB and acylated AOB reduced acrylamide formation in fried potato crisps. Results showed that 0.05% AOB and 0.05% and 0.1% acylated AOB groups significantly (p < 0.05) reduced the content of acrylamide in potato crisps by 30.7%, 44.5%, and 46.9%, respectively.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Kelussia odoratissima Mozzaf, formerly Apium odoratissima, is a plant locally called "Karafs", found in central Zagros region of Iran. Leaves and stems of the plant are traditionally used in the treatment of hypertension and inflammation. Lowering blood pressure effects of Kelussia odoratissima Mozzaf (wild celery) was evaluated in preventing pulmonary hypertension syndrome (PHS) in broiler chickens reared at high altitude (2,100 m). MATERIALS AND METHODS A total number of 208 day-old male broilers (Ross 308) were randomly assigned to four treatments including different levels of Kelussia odoratissima Mozzaf (0%, 0.25%, 0.5%, and 0.75%) in a 42-day trial. RESULTS Body weight gain and feed:gain responses significantly (P<0.05) improved when Kelussia odoratissima Mozzaf was included in broiler diets at 0.75% in the growing stage and throughout the trial. Over-expression of inducible nitric oxide (NO) synthase in the heart was observed in chickens fed Kelussia odoratissima Mozzaf. Birds received Kelussia odoratissima Mozzaf at 0.5% and 0.75% had significantly (P<0.05) higher circulatory concentrations of NO though significantly (P<0.05) lower serum malondialdehyde concentration, hematocrit and heterophil to lymphocyte ratio when compared to the birds fed the control diet. Feeding Kelussia odoratissima Mozzaf at 0.5% and 0.75% prevented from right ventricular hypertrophy and led to a significant decline in mortality from PHS. CONCLUSION It can be concluded that Kelussia odoratissima Mozzaf is a promising medicinal herb to prevent PHS in broiler chickens by improving blood pressure and antioxidant responses.

Abstract
Tephrosia apollinea is a perennial shrublet widely distributed in Africa and is known to have medicinal properties. The current study describes the bio-assay (cytotoxicity) guided isolation of (-)-pseudosemiglabrin from the aerial parts of T. apollinea. The structural and stereochemical features have been described using spectral and x-ray crystallographic techniques. The cytotoxicity of isolated compound was evaluated against nine cancer cell lines. In addition, human fibroblast was used as a model cell line for normal cells. The results showed that (-)-pseudosemiglabrin exhibited dose-dependent antiproliferative effect on most of the tested cancer cell lines. Selectively, the compound showed significant inhibitory effect on the proliferation of leukemia, prostate and breast cancer cell lines. Further studies revealed that, the compound exhibited proapoptotic phenomenon of cytotoxicity. Interestingly, the compound did not display toxicity against the normal human fibroblast. It can be concluded that (-)-pseudosemiglabrin is worthy for further investigation as a potential chemotherapeutic agent.

Abstract
This study enzymatically acrylates two flavonoids from bamboo-leaf extracts, isoorientin and isovitexin, with different fatty acids as acyl donors using Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB). The conversion yield ranged from 35 to 80% for fatty acids with different chain lengths. Higher isoorientin and isovitexin conversion yields (>75%) were obtained using lauric acid in tert-amyl-alcohol as the reaction medium. (1)H and (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy analysis showed that, in the presence of CALB, acylation occurred at the isoorientin and isovitexin primary hydroxyl group of glucose moiety and only monoesters were detected. Introducing an acyl group into isoorientin and isovitexin significantly improved their lipophilicity but reduced their antiradical activity.

Abstract
Lead on! In the course of screening flavonoid and resveratrol libraries, abyssinone II, a naturally occurring prenylated flavonoid, was found to exhibit relatively good antitubercular and antibacterial activity. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed that abyssinone II hyperpolarizes the bacterial membrane potential and inhibits the biosynthesis of key cellular macromolecules (DNA, RNA, and protein).

Abstract
The current study was focused on the induction of apoptotic effects of resveratrol along with the combination treatments of nutlin-3 and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) against the human ovarian cancer cell line A2780/CP70. To determine the extent of apoptosis following the above-mentioned treatments, we assessed the execution of apoptotic events that proceed via caspase activation and cytochrome c release. We estimated the caspase-3 and -9 activities using a direct enzymatic assay that measures the cleavage of synthetic peptide substrate (N-acetyl-Asp-Glu-Val-Asp-p-nitroanilide). Our experiments showed an increase in caspase-3 and -9 activities in the cells that were treated with the combination of resveratrol (5 μM) with nutlin-3 (5 μM) or TGF-β (1 μg/mL). Since activation of procaspase-3 by caspase-9 requires the release of cytochrome c into the cytoplasm, we measured the levels of cytochrome c in the cytoplasm by western blot experiments. The data indicated a considerable increase in caspase-3 and cytochrome c levels when cells were treated with drugs for 24 hours. Experiments with 4,6'-diamino-2-phenylindole dihydrochloride (DAPI) staining also confirmed the induction of apoptosis in all the above-mentioned treatments done at 24 and 48 hours. These results support our hypothesis that resveratrol combination can induce programmed cell death at doses that are less than half of what is typically needed for nutlin-3 and TGF-β to induce apoptosis.

Abstract
The crystal structure of monohydrated trifolin (kaempferol 3-O-β-D-galactopyranoside) (an important biologically active compound, which was isolated from the aerial part of Consolida oliveriana) has been determined from conventional laboratory X-ray powder diffraction data. Variable counting time technique was used during measurement and crystal structure was solved by means of Monte Carlo algorithm. The final structure was achieved by Rietveld refinement using both constraints and restraints on interatomic bond lengths and angles.

Abstract
A series of new ionic Pt(II) complexes of general formula [Pt(II)(A)n(Cl)(AO)]X (A=en, NH3; n=1, 2; X-=BF4-, NO3-, PF6-, CF3SO3-), 1-5, containing Acridine Orange (AO) bound to the metal atom through the endocyclic N atom, have been tested in human melanoma cells (M14, JR8 and PLF2), human neuroblastoma cell line SH-SY5Y and its cis-platin resistant subline SH-SY5Yres. The Pt(II) compounds, and in particular complexes 1 and 4, exhibit higher cytotoxic activity at lower concentration compared to cis-DDP in melanoma cells, affecting cell growth behavior and causing cell cycle perturbation. Moreover, M14 and JR8 cell lines were not able to rescue the impairment due to the new Pt(II) complexes since perturbation of cell cycle phases and cell proliferation inhibition were found after 72 h of recovery time. In order to evaluate whether GSTP1 may play a role in chemo-resistance of our melanoma model, we investigated the effect of the treatment with these Pt(II) compounds on GSTP1 gene expression. Up-regulation of GSTP1, evaluated by Qreal-time PCR was observed after treatment with complexes 1 and 4, showing that the effect of these Pt(II) compounds is GSTP1 indipendent. The lack of resistance of the new Pt(II)-AO complexes and their cytotoxicity, cell growth and cell cycle recovery in melanoma cells provide the basis for the development of new platinum anticancer compounds, directed to those tumors that over express GSTs enzymes.

Abstract
A high-performance capillary electrophoresis with amperometric detection (CE-AD) method has been developed for the determination of the pharmacologically active ingredients in different parts of Morus alba L. after a relatively simple extraction procedure. This method was also used in the comparison of bioactive constituent difference in the five parts, based on their electropherograms or characteristic "CE-AD profiles". The effects of several factors such as the acidity and concentration of running buffer, separation voltage, applied potential and injection time were investigated to find the optimum conditions. Method detection limits (S/N = 3) ranged from 1.5 x 10(-7) to 1.4 x 10(-8)g/mL for all 10 analytes, and the assay results were satisfactory.

Abstract
Currently cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) (cis-DDP) is one of the most commonly applied compounds in chemotherapy of many types of cancer. However, a drawback is that its effectiveness presents with many side effects. Therefore, human normal lymphocytes were chosen as a model system to study cis-bis(3-aminoflavone)dichloroplatinum(II) (the cis-Pt(II) complex of 3-aminoflavone) in comparison with cis-DDP. We examined the effect of both tested compounds on cell viability and induction of apoptosis and necrosis. Trypan blue and acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining were carried out, as well as quantitative analysis of the apoptotic signal of P53 and BAX induction caused by the cis-Pt(II) complex of 3-aminoflavone in comparison with cis-DDP. cis-DDP induced a decrease of cell viability and led to a higher increase in necrosis and apoptosis than did the cis-Pt(II) complex of 3-aminoflavone. Moreover, at the molecular level cis-DDP increased P53 and BAX expression in comparison with the other tested compound. The cis-Pt(II) complex of 3-aminoflavone showed a weaker genotoxic effect in normal lymphocytes in comparison with cis-DDP, which was a stronger inducer of apoptosis and necrosis.

Abstract
Lung cancer remains one of the most common causes of cancer-related death worldwide. Approximately 80% is histologically non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and in about 70% of patients it is an unresectable type. Clinical studies indicated that application of platinum derivatives caused good results and combinations of platinum with other agents could improve median survivals. In view of the central problem of sufficient efficiency of drugs in chemotherapy, efforts have focused on the development of alternative platinum-based analogues that can be more effective in cancer treatment. cis-bis(3-aminoflavone)dichloroplatinum(II) (cis-Pt(II) complex of 3-aminoflavone) represents a novel class of platinum-based potential antitumour agents. In order to evaluate the degree of apoptosis, acridine orange/ethidium bromide and Hoechst 33258/propidum iodide double staining as well as RT-PCR (P53 and BAX expression evaluation) were used in lung cancer cell line A549 after treatment with this compound in comparison with cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) (cis-DDP). Apoptotic cells at early and late stages and also necrotic ones were observed after usage of cis-Pt(II) complex of 3-aminoflavone and the percentage of these cells outnumbered the values obtained after cis-DDP application. The former compound induced a higher percentage of P53 and BAX expression in A549 cells in comparison with the latter one. Results indicate the beneficial properties of cis-Pt(II) complex of 3-aminoflavone as a potential antitumor drug.
