Formation of Two 1D Polymeric Water Morphologies

Crystal structure of [2-(tri-ethyl-ammonio)-eth-yl][(2,4,6-triiso-propyl-phen-yl)sulfon-yl]amide tetra-hydrate

The zwitterionic title compound shows a major disorder of the triiso­propyl­phenyl group over two equally occupied locations. An inter­esting feature is the uncommon hydrate structure, exhibiting a tape-like motif which can be classified as a transition of the one-dimensional T4(2)6(2) motif into the two-dimensional L4(6)5(7)6(8) motif.

The zwitterionic title compound, C₂₃H₄₂N₂O₂S·4H₂O, crystallized as a tetrahydrate from a solution of N-[(2,4,6-triiso­propyl­phen­yl)sulfon­yl]aziridine in tri­ethyl­amine, diethyl ether and pentane in the presence of moist air. It is formed by a nucleophillic ring-opening that is assumed to be reversible. The mol­ecular structure shows a major disorder of the triiso­propyl­phenyl group over two equally occupied locations. Water-chloride and water-bromide hydrogen-bonded networks: influence of the nature of the halide ions on the stability of the supramolecular assemblies

Two compounds, namely, [TTPH(2)](Cl)(2) x 4 H(2)O (1) and [TTPH(2)](Br)(2) x 4 H(2)O (2), (TTP = 4'-p-tolyl-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine) were synthesized from purely aqueous media and characterized by physical techniques. In the solid-state structures of these compounds, interesting supramolecular assemblies are observed. In 1, an unusual staircase-like architecture of the tape of edge-shared planar water hexamer is of importance, where the chloride ions are at the two edges of the tape. In 2, the polymeric nature of the water-bromide assembly is of interest, where discrete open-cube water octamers are doubly bridged by bromide ions. Semiempirical and DFT calculations confirm that the nature of the anion indeed affects the topology of the water-halide assemblies. We conclude that the protonated [TTPH(2)](2+) species can act as appropriate receptors for halide ions, which in turn act as a matrix for the formation of polymeric 1D water-halide assemblies.

Tetra-aqua-bis(3,5-di-4-pyridyl-1H-1,2,4-triazolido)cadmium(II) dihydrate

In the title compound, [Cd(C₁₂H₈N₅)₂(H₂O)₄]·2H₂O, the Cd^II atom is located on an inversion center and is coordinated by the two N atoms [Cd—N = 2.278 (2) Å] and four O atoms [Cd—O = 2.304 (2)–2.322 (2) Å] in a distorted octa­hedral geometry. Inter­molecular O—H⋯O and O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds link the complex into a three-dimensional supra­molecular framework.
