Hydrogen bond mediated intermolecular magnetic coupling in mononuclear high spin iron(iii) Schiff base complexes: synthesis, structure and magnetic study with theoretical insight. Abstract
The crystal structure and magnetic properties of two mononuclear iron(iii) Schiff base complexes, [FeL1(NCS)2] (1), HL1 = 2-[1-[[2-[(2-aminoethyl)amino]ethyl]imino]ethyl]phenol and [FeL2(N3)Cl] (2), HL2 = 2-(-1-(2-(2-aminoethylamino)ethylimino)ethyl)-4-methylphenol are reported. Each complex contains a Fe(iii) ion surrounded by a N3O Schiff base ligand and two NCS− ligands (in 1) or one N3− and one Cl− ligands (in 2). The magnetic properties can be well reproduced with zero field splittings in the high spin S = 5/2 Fe(iii) ions and weak intermolecular Fe–Fe interactions mediated by hydrogen bonds. This intermolecular antiferromagnetic interaction has been validated by using DFT calculations in complex 2. Moreover, the interaction energies of the H-bonded dimers in both complexes have been estimated using DFT calculations and characterized using a combination of QTAIM and NCI plot computational tools. Complexes 1 and 2 constitute two rare examples of Fe(iii) complexes with magnetic interactions through H-bonds. H-Bond mediated magnetic interactions in mononuclear iron(iii) Schiff base complexes were studied experimentally and validated by using DFT calculations. ![]()

Abstract
Background & Objective:
Six novel complexes of transition metal namely,
[CoLCl2(H2O)2]0.5H2O, [NiLCl2(H2O)2]0.5H2O, [CuLCl2]0.5H2O, [ZnLCl2], [PdLCl2]H2O and
[CdLCl2]H2O, where L is benzocycloheptenone thiosemicarbazone ligand, have been obtained. The
confirmation of the structures of the obtained metal chelates depends on the different spectral and
physicochemical techniques including CHN analysis, infrared spectra, molar conductivity measurement,
UV-vis, thermogravimetric analysis and magnetic moment. The infrared spectral results ascertained
that the ligand behaved as neutral bidentate connecting the metal centers via N and S atoms of
C=N and C=S groups, respectively.
Methods:
The UV-Vis, molar conductivity and magnetic susceptibility results implied that the geometrical
structures of the metal chelates are octahedral for Co(II) & Ni(II) complexes, tetrahedral for
Zn(II) & Cd(II) complexes and square planar for Cu(II) & Pd(II) complexes which have been confirmed
by molecular modeling studies.
Conclusion:
Moreover, the mode of interaction between some chosen metal complexes towards SSDNA
has been thoughtful by UV-Vis spectra and viscosity measurements. The value of the intrinsic
binding constant (Kb) for the examined compounds has been found to be lower than the binding affinity
of the classical intercalator ethedium bromide. Also, the viscosity measurements of the complexes
proved that they bind to DNA, most likely, by a non-intercalative mode like H-bonding or electrostatic
interactions.

Abstract
In the title racemic compound, C(26)H(32)N(2)O(3), an intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond is formed between the phenolic OH group and the tertiary amine N atom. Another O-H⋯N hydrogen bond that is formed between the OH group and the pyridine N atom links the mol-ecules into a polymeric chain extending along the a axis. The structure is further stabilized by intramolecular and intermolecular C-H⋯O interactions.

Abstract
Three hydrazone ligands, H2L1-H2L3, made from salicylaldehyde and ibuprofen- or naproxen-derived hydrazides, were prepared and transformed into the corresponding copper(II) complexes [Cu(II)L1] x H2O, [Cu(II)L2], and [(Cu(II))2(L3)2] x H2O x DMF (Scheme). The X-ray crystal structure of the last-mentioned complex was solved (Fig. 1), showing a square-planar complexation geometry, and the single units were found to form a one-dimensional chain structure (Fig. 2). The interactions of these complexes with CT-DNA were studied by different techniques, indicating that they all bind to DNA by classical and/or non-classical intercalation modes.
