Abstract
Metal imine-thiolate complexes, M(NS)2 are known to undergo imine C-C bond formation to give M(N2 S2 ) complexes (M=Co, Ni) containing a redox-active ligand. Although these transfor-mations are not typically quantitative, we demonstrate here that the one-electron reduction of a related Ni bis(imine-thiolate) complex affords the corresponding paramagnetic [Ni(N2 S2 )]- anion (2⋅- ) exclusively; subsequent oxidation with [Cp2 Fe]BF4 then affords a high yield of neutral 2 (Cp=η5 -cyclopentadienyl). Moreover, electrochemical studies indicate that a second one-electron reduction affords the diamagnetic dianion. Both anionic products were isolated and characterized by SC-XRD and their electronic structures were investigated by UV-vis spectro-electrochemistry, EPR and NMR spectroscopy, and DFT studies. These studies show that reduction proceeds primarily on the ligand, with (N2 S2 )4- containing both thiolate and ring-delocalized anions.

Abstract
A number of novel di- and triorganotin(IV) complexes 1-5 (Ph2SnL1, Ph2SnL2, Et2SnL2, Ph3SnL3, Ph3SnL4) with mono- or dianionic forms of thio-Schiff bases containing antioxidant sterically hindered phenol or catechol fragments were synthesized. Compounds 1-5 were characterized by 1H, 13C NMR, IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The molecular structures of complexes 1 and 2 in the crystal state were established by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The antioxidant activity of new complexes as radical scavengers was estimated in DPPH and ABTS assays. It was found that compounds 4 and 5 with free phenol or catechol fragments are more active in these tests than complexes 1-3 with tridentate O,N,S-coordinated ligands. The effect of compounds 1-5 on the promoted oxidative damage of the DNA by 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride and in the process of rat liver (Wistar) homogenate lipid peroxidation in vitro was determined. Complexes 4 and 5 were characterized by more pronounced antioxidant activity in the reaction of lipid peroxidation in vitro than compounds 1-3. The antiproliferative activity of compounds 1-5 was investigated against MCF-7, HTC-116, and A-549 cell lines by an MTT test. The values of IC50 are significantly affected by the presence of free antioxidant fragments and the coordination site for binding.

Abstract
A number of novel heteroligand Zn(II) complexes (1-8) of the general type (Ln)Zn(NN) containing O,N,O'-, O,N,S-donor redox-active Schiff bases and neutral N,N'-chelating ligands (NN) were synthesized. The target Schiff bases LnH2 were obtained as a result of the condensation of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde with substituted o-aminophenols or o-aminothiophenol. These ligands with combination with 2,2'-bipyridine, 1,10-phenanthroline, and neocuproine are able to form stable complexes upon coordination with zinc(II) ion. The molecular structures of complexes 4∙H2O, 6, and 8 in crystal state were determined by means of single-crystal X-ray analysis. In the prepared complexes, the redox-active Schiff bases are in the form of doubly deprotonated dianions and act as chelating tridentate ligands. Complexes 6 and 8 possess a strongly distorted pentacoordinate geometry while 4∙H2O is hexacoordinate and contains water molecule coordinated to the central zinc atom. The electrochemical properties of zinc(II) complexes were studied by the cyclic voltammetry. For the studied complexes, O,N,O'- or O,N,S-donor Schiff base ligands are predominantly involved in electrochemical transformations in the anodic region, while the N,N'-coordinated neutral nitrogen donor ligands demonstrate the electrochemical activity in the cathode potential range. A feature of complexes 5 and 8 with sterically hindered tert-butyl groups is the possibility of the formation of relatively stable monocation and monoanion forms under electrochemical conditions. The values of the energy gap between the boundary redox orbitals were determined by electrochemical and spectral methods. The parameters obtained in the first case vary from 1.97 to 2.42 eV, while the optical bang gap reaches 2.87 eV.

Abstract
Structurally variable organochalcogen clusters containing palladium(II) and nickel(II) ions were assembled starting from the salicylidene-substituted dichalcogenides (Y-C6H4-N═CH-C6H4-OH)2 ({HLY}2, where Y = Se or Te), and palladium or nickel acetate. The tetrameric palladium clusters contain reduced chalcogenolato ligands {Y-C6H4-N═CH-C6H4-O)}2- ({L'Y}2-, where Y = Se or Te), while the initially formed trimeric nickel clusters contain the intact, coordinated dichalcogenides. The palladium clusters have a general formula of [Pd4(L'Y)4] and represent the first examples of palladium complexes where both a gyrobifastigial and a pseudocubane arrangement of the central Pd4Y4 unit could be established with the same ligand, only depending on the solvents used for crystallization. Reduced density gradient (RDG) considerations based on density functional theory calculations suggest that the commonly referred to stabilizing chalcogen-palladium or palladium-palladium interactions for the two geometric arrangements are weak van der Waals contacts resulting from the contact of two nonbinding lone pairs. In the case of the pseudocubane arrangement, a repulsive steric effect, which is indicated by RDG analysis, is clearly supported by the cuplike distortions detected in the solid-state structure of the compound. In contrast to the reactions with palladium acetate, where the dichalcogenides were cleaved, during similar reactions with nickel acetate, the dichalcogenides remained intact and trimeric clusters of the composition [Ni-μ2-κ2-(Ni{κ5-LY}2)2-μ2-(OAc)2] (Y = Se, Te) were formed. Air oxidation and hydrolysis of [Ni-μ2-κ2-(Ni{κ5-LTe}2)2-μ2-(OAc)2] gave a rare example of a hexanuclear nickel cluster of the composition [Ni2-κ5-(Ni4-κ6-μ6-{(L'Te2O3)(L'TeO2)2}2)-μ2-(H2O)2], which is composed of a well-defined framework consisting of tellurinic anhydride and tellurinate units, which proves the comparably higher oxidation sensitivity of the trinickel dichalcogenide complexes. Electron spray ionization mass spectrometry spectra of both the palladium and nickel clusters indicate that they show fluctional behavior with varying nuclearity in solution and can adopt multiple charge states especially because of the noninnocence of the chalcogen-based ligands. The complexes were fully characterized by spectroscopic methods, elemental analyses, and X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
Long-range antiferromagnetic coupling impeded electron flow through the hexaradical-containing tetranuclear CoIII4 complex (1), while the nonradical-containing tetranuclear CoIII4 complex (2), with no paramagnetic centres, was a semiconductor and sensed NH3 efficiently at room temperature (25 °C).
