catena-Poly[[tetrakis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole-κN 2)copper(II)]-μ2-sulfato-κ2 O:O′]: crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of a CuII coordination polymer

The title coordination pyrazole-containing coordination polymer, was synthesized using a one-pot reaction of copper powder, anhydrous copper(II) sulfate and 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole (Hdmpz) in aceto­nitrile under ambient conditions. The crystal structure is built up from packed parallel polymeric chains, which are stabilized by an extensive hydrogen-bond network, which forms with the participation of bridging sulfate ligands.

The title coordination polymer, [Cu(SO₄)(C₅H₈N₂)₄]_n, was synthesized using a one-pot reaction of copper powder, anhydrous copper(II) sulfate and 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole (Hdmpz) in aceto­nitrile under ambient conditions. The asymmetric unit can be described as a chain consisting of four [Cu(SO₄)(Hdmpz)₄] formula units that are connected to each other by a μ₂-sulfato-bridged ligand. The octa­hedral coordination geometry (O₂N₄) of all copper atoms is realized by coordination of four pyrazole ligands and two sulfate ligands. Four pyridine-like N atoms of the pyrazole ligands occupy the equatorial positions, while two oxygen atoms of two sulfate ligands are in axial positions. As a result of the sulfate ligand rotation, there is a pairwise alternation of terminal O atoms (which are not involved in coordination to the copper atom) of the SO₄ tetra­hedra. The Cu⋯Cu distances within one asymmetric unit are in the range 7.0842 (12)–7.1554 (12) Å. The crystal structure is built up from polymeric chains packed in a parallel manner along the b-axis direction. Hirshfeld surface analysis suggests that the most important contributions to the surface contacts are from H⋯H (74.7%), H⋯O/O⋯H (14.8%) and H⋯C/C⋯H (8.2%) inter­actions.

Synthesis, Characterization and Assessment of the Antioxidant Activity of Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) Complexes Derived from Scorpionate Ligands

Seeking to enrich the yet less explored field of scorpionate complexes bearing antioxidant properties, we, here, report on the synthesis, characterization and assessment of the antioxidant activity of new complexes derived from three scorpionate ligands. The interaction between the scorpionate ligands thallium(I) hydrotris(5-methyl-indazolyl)borate (TlTp^4Bo,5Me), thallium(I) hydrotris(4,5-dihydro-2H-benzo[g]indazolyl)borate (TlTp^a) and potassium hydrotris(3-tert-butyl- pyrazolyl)borate (KTp^tBu), and metal(II) chlorides, in dichloromethane at room temperature, produced a new family of complexes having the stoichiometric formula [M(Tp^4Bo,5Me)₂] (M = Cu, 1; Zn, 4; Cd, 7), [M(Tp^a)₂] (M = Cu, 2; Zn, 5; Cd, 8), [Cu(Hpz^tBu)₃Cl₂] (3), [Zn(Tp^tBu)Cl] (6) and [Cd(Bp^tBu)(Hpz^tBu)Cl] (9). The obtained metal complexes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance and elemental analysis, highlighting the total and partial hydrolysis of the scorpionate ligand Tp^tBu during the synthesis of the Cu(II) complex 3 and the Cd(II) complex 9, respectively. An assessment of the antioxidant activity of the obtained metal complexes was performed through both enzymatic and non-enzymatic assays against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl- hydrazyl (DPPH^·), 2,2′-Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS^+·), hydroxyl (HO^·), nitric oxide (NO^·), superoxide (O₂⁻) and peroxide (OOH^·) radicals. In particular, the complex [Cu(Tp^a)₂]⋅0.5H₂O (2) exhibited significant antioxidant activity, as good and specific activity against superoxide (O₂^−·), (IC50 values equal to 5.6 ± 0.2 μM) and might be identified as auspicious SOD-mimics (SOD = superoxide dismutase).

Fifteen Years of Scientific Investigation into Main Groups and Transition Metal Coordination Chemistry with Allan White

The outcomes of the investigations on the structures and reactivity of a massive number of main group and transition metal complexes containing different families of ligands are reviewed. All the data result from the scientific collaboration between the research groups of Claudio Pettinari and Allan White which lasted fifteen years.

Heteroleptic metal(II) complexes of hydrotris(methimazolyl)borate and diimines: Synthesis, theoretical calculations, antimicrobial, antioxidant, in vitro cytotoxicity and molecular docking studies

A series of heteroleptic metal(II) complexes of formulation [M(Tm)(diimine)](ClO₄) (1-8), [Tm = hydrotris(methimazolyl)borate, diimine = 2,2'-bipyridyl or 1,10-phenanthroline and M = Mn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) or Zn(II)] have been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods. The geometric parameters of the complexes were determined using UV-Vis spectroscopy and DFT calculations. The analyses of HOMO and LUMO have been used to explain the charge transfer within the molecule. Antimicrobial activity of the synthesized heteroleptic complexes were evaluated against two Gram (-ve) (Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae) and two Gram (+ve) (Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus) bacterial, and three fungal (Candida albicans, Candida glabrata and Candida krusei) strains with respect to the standard drugs erythromycin and amphotericin-B. The copper(II) complex 6 showed better scavenging activity against DPPH when compared to other complexes. The cytotoxic activity of copper(II) complexes 5 and 6 against MCF-7 cell line was assessed by MTT assay, which showed exponential responses toward increasing concentration of complexes. In the molecular docking studies, the complexes showed π-π, σ-π, hydrogen bonding, van der Waals and electrostatic interactions with FGFR kinase receptor.

Theoretical investigation, biological evaluation and VEGFR2 kinase studies of metal(II) complexes derived from hydrotris(methimazolyl)borate

The reaction of soft tripodal scorpionate ligand, sodium hydrotris(methimazolyl)borate with M(ClO4)2·6H2O [MMn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) or Zn(II)] in methanol leads to the cleavage of B-N bond followed by the formation of complexes of the type [M(MeimzH)4](ClO4)2·H2O (1-4), where MeimzH=methimazole. All the complexes were fully characterized by spectro-analytical techniques. The molecular structure of the zinc(II) complex (4) was determined by X-ray crystallography, which supports the observed deboronation reaction in the scorpionate ligand with tetrahedral geometry around zinc(II) ion. The electronic spectra of complexes suggested tetrahedral geometry for manganese(II) and nickel(II) complexes, and square-planar geometry for copper(II) complex. Frontier molecular orbital analysis (HOMO-LUMO) was carried out by B3LYP/6-31G(d) to understand the charge transfer occurring in the molecules. All the complexes exhibit significant antimicrobial activity against Gram (-ve) and Gram (+ve) bacterial as well as fungal strains, which are quite comparable to standard drugs streptomycin and clotrimazole. The copper(II) complex (3) showed excellent free radical scavenging activity against DPPH in all concentration with IC50 value of 30μg/mL, when compared to the other complexes. In the molecular docking studies, all the complexes showed hydrophobic, π-π and hydrogen bonding interactions with BSA. The cytotoxic activity of the complexes against human hepatocellular liver carcinoma (HepG2) cells was assessed by MTT assay, which showed exponential responses toward increasing concentration of complexes.
