Abstract
Lanthanide metal clusters excel in combining molecular and material chemistry properties. Here, we report an efficient cooperative sensitization UC phenomenon of a Eu3+/Yb3+ nonanuclear lanthanide cluster in CD3OD. The synthesis and characterization of the heteronuclear cluster in the solid state and solution are described together with the UC phenomenon showing Eu3+ luminescence in the visible region upon 980 nm NIR excitation of Yb3+ at concentrations as low as 100 nM. Alongside being the Eu/Yb cluster to display UC (with a quantum yield value of 4.88 × 10-8 upon 1.13 W cm-2 excitation at 980 nm), the cluster exhibits downshifted light emission of Yb3+ in the NIR region upon 578 nm visible excitation of Eu3+, which is ascribed to sensitization pathways for Yb through the 5D0 energy levels of Eu3+. Additionally, a faint emission is also observed at ca. 500 nm upon 980 nm excitation, originating from the cooperative luminescence of Yb3+. The [Eu8Yb(BA)16(OH)10]Cl cluster (BA = benzoylacetonate) is also a field-induced single-molecular magnet (SMM) under 4K with a modest Ueff/kB of 8.48 K, thereby joining the coveted list of Yb-SMMs and emerging as a prototype system for next-generation devices, combining luminescence with single-molecular magnetism in a molecular cluster.

Abstract
The association of lanthanide ions and paracyclophane derivatives has been very scarcely reported in the literature. In this study, elaboration of five coordination lanthanide complexes involving the 1,4(1,4)-dibenzenacyclohexaphane-12,43-diylbis(diphenylphosphine oxide) ligand (L) was achieved with the determination of single-crystal X-ray diffraction structures of four mononuclear complexes of formula [Ln(hfac)3(L)] (hfac- = 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoroacetylacetonate) (Ln = Dy(III) (1-Dy) and Yb(III) (2-Yb)) and [Ln(tta)3(L)] (tta- = 2-tenoyl-trifluoroacetylacetonate) (Ln = Dy(III) (3-Dy) and Yb(III) (4-Yb)) and one dinuclear complex [Na(Dy2(hfac)6(L)2)](BArF) (BArF- = tetrakis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate) (5-Dy). The compounds were characterized using elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, DC and AC magnetic measurements and photophysical investigations. L is an efficient organic chromophore for the sensitization of both visible Dy(III) (1-Dy) and near-infrared Yb(III) (2-Yb and 4-Yb) luminescence. The combination of excitation and emission spectra allowed the determination of the crystal field spitting of both the 2F7/2 ground state and 2F5/2 excited state for 2-Yb and 4-Yb. Moreover, 3-Dy and the two Yb(III) derivatives displayed field-induced single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour with slow magnetic relaxation occurring through the Raman process only for 2-Yb and 4-Yb, whereas a combination of Orbach and Raman processes was identified for 3-Dy.

Abstract
Lanthanide ions have attracted great interest owing to their optical and magnetic properties. Single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior has been a fascinating science for thirty years. Moreover, chiral lanthanide complexes allow the observation of remarkable circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). However, the combination of both SMM and CPL behaviors in a single molecular system is very rare and deserves attention in the design of multifunctional materials. Four chiral one-dimensional coordination compounds involving 1,1'-Bi-2-naphtol (BINOL)-derived bisphosphate ligands and the Yb(iii) centre were synthesized and characterized by powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. All the Yb(iii)-based polymers displayed field-induced SMM behavior with magnetic relaxation occurring by applying Raman processes and near infrared CPL in the solid state.

Abstract
A field-induced chiral YbIII Single-Molecule Magnet (SMM) displayed an unprecedented near-infrared circularly polarized luminescence (NIR-CPL) in the solid-state. The bridging bis(1,10-phenantro[5,6b])tetrathiafulvalene triad (L) allowed an efficient sensitization of the NIR 2 F5/2 →2 F7/2 emission while the NIR-CPL is associated to the f-f transitions of the YbIII ion bearing chiral β-diketonate derived-camphorate ancillary ligands.

Abstract
To develop donor–acceptor–donor (D–A–D) type new photo-electric conversion materials, new tetrathiafulvalene (TTF)-Mq2-TTF complexes 1 and 2 were synthesized, where two bis(n-hexylthio)tetrathiafulvalene moieties were attached to the Mq2 part (1: M = Zn, 2: M = Ni, q = 8-quinolinato) through amide bonds. UV-Vis absorption spectra of these complexes showed strong and sharp absorption maxima at 268 nm and small absorption maxima around 410 nm, corresponding to those of Znq2 and Niq2 parts. Furthermore, complexes 1 and 2 exhibited absorption tails up to a much longer wavelength region of ca. 700 nm, suggesting the appearance of charge transfer absorption from TTF to the Mq2 parts. The photoelectrochemical measurements on the thin films of these complexes casted on ITO-coated glass substrates suggest that positive photocurrents can be generated by the photoinduced intramolecular electron transfer process between the TTF and Mq2 parts.

Abstract
![]()
The design of a coordination
complex that involves a ligand combining both a tetrathiafulvalene
core and a helicene fragment was achieved thanks to the reaction between
the new 2-{1-[2-methyl[6]helicene]-4,5-[4,5-bis(propylthio)tetrathiafulvalenyl]-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl}pyridine ligand (L) and
the Dy(hfac)3·2H2O metalloprecursor. Magnetic
investigations showed field-induced single-molecule-magnet (SMM) behavior
under an applied magnetic field of 1000 Oe for [Dy(hfac)3(L)]·0.5CH2Cl2, while experimentally
oriented single-crystal magnetic measurements allowed for determination
of the magnetic anisotropy orientation. The magnetic behavior was
rationalized through ab initio
CASSCF/SI-SO calculations. This redox-active chiral-field-induced
SMM paves the way for the design of switchable-multiproperty SMMs. A redox-active chiral-field-induced single-molecule
magnet was achieved through a coordination reaction of the [Dy(hfac)3] precursor to a ligand that combines a redox-active tetrathiafulvalene
core and a chiral carbo[6]helicene fragment. This multiproperty system
was characterized using X-ray crystallography, magnetism, and ab initio
calculations.

Abstract
Up to now, even if murexide-based complexometric studies are performed with all 3d or 4f ions, the crystal structures of the light-lanthanide derivatives of the lanthanide-murexide series are unknown. In this work, we report the crystal structure of the NdIII derivative named NdMurex. Contrary to all known complexes of the 3d or 4f series, a dimeric compound was obtained. As for its already reported DyIII and YbIII parents, the NdIII complex responsible for the color-change behaves as a single-molecule magnet (SMM). This behavior was observed on both the crystalline (NdMurex: Ueff = 6.20(0.80) K, 4.31 cm−1; τ0 = 2.20(0.92) × 10−5 s, Hdc = 1200 Oe) and anhydrous form (NdMurexAnhy: Ueff = 6.25(0.90) K, 4.34 cm−1; τ0 = 4.85(0.40) × 10−5 s, Hdc = 1200 Oe). The SMM behavior is reported also for the anhydrous CeIII derivative (CeMurexAnhy: Ueff = 5.40(0.75) K, 3.75 cm−1; τ0 = 3.02(1.10) × 10−5 s, Hdc = 400 Oe). The Near-Infrared Emission NIR emission was observed for NdMurexAnhy and highlights its bifunctionality.
