Abstract
Different from the well-investigated enynes, transition-metal-catalyzed carbocyclization reactions of allenynes are more attractive as a result of the unique structure and versatile reactivity of allenes. Herein, we report the first cobalt-catalyzed highly chemo- and stereoselective arylative carbocyclization of 1,6-allenynes with arylboronic acids, affording five-membered carbocycles and heterocycles with moderate to high yields, broad substrate scope, and wide functional group compatibility. Moreover, several mechanistic experiments were conducted to gain insight into the reaction process.

We report here the
application of silyl enol ether moieties as
efficient alkene coupling partners within cobalt-mediated intramolecular
Pauson–Khand reactions. This cyclization strategy delivers
synthetically valuable oxygenated cyclopentenone products in yields
of ≤93% from both ketone- and aldehyde-derived silyl enol ethers,
incorporates both terminal and internal alkyne partners, and delivers
a variety of decorated systems, including more complex tricyclic structures.
Facile removal of the silyl protecting group reveals oxygenated sites
for potential further elaboration.

Abstract
The use of flow methodology allows the use of alkynylphenyl vinyl ethers (benzo-fused 1,7 enynes) as substrates for the intramolecular Pauson-Khand reaction (PKr). Forced temperature and pressure conditions during a short reaction time minimize the substrate decomposition allowing the formation of the PK adduct. Substrates substituted at the internal position of the double bond and with internal triple bonds give better yields. The resulting products are cyclopentabenzofuranones present in diverse natural products and drugs that can be further functionalised.

Abstract
Rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric desymmetrization Pauson-Khand reaction of C4-alkynyl-tethered cyclohexadienones has been developed as a novel strategy for access to fused 6-5-5 tricycles bearing three consecutive stereogenic centers. An array of chiral tricyclo[6.2.1.04,11]undecenes have been synthesized in high yields and enantioselectivities in a single step under mild conditions. This strategy employs readily accessible internal-olefin-containing 1,6-enynes, providing a potentially powerful tool for constructing chiral polycyclic scaffolds of complex molecules containing cyclopentenones and cyclohexenones.

Abstract
The Pauson-Khand reaction (PKR) is a formal [2 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition involving an alkyne, an alkene and carbon monoxide mediated by a hexacarbonyldicobaltalkyne complex to yield cyclopentenones in a single step. This versatile reaction has become a method of choice for the synthesis of cyclopentenone and its derivatives since its discovery in the early seventies. The aim of this review is to point out the applications of PKR in the total synthesis of terpenes.

Abstract
Retigeranic acid A is a uniquely structured pentacyclic sesterterpene bearing eight stereogenic centers. We report a concise route to the core structure of (-)-retigeranic acid A. The stereochemistry of its six chiral centers and three quaternary carbon centers was well-controlled. This route features two intramolecular Pauson-Khand reactions (IMPKRs): the first forged the D and E rings to deliver the triquinane subunit, and the second constructed the A and B rings and diastereoselectively installed the quaternary C6a center.

Abstract
An efficient approach for the highly diastereoselective construction of functionalized cyclopenta[d][1,2]oxazines via sequential oxyamination and Pauson-Khand reaction of readily accessible propargylic alcohols has been developed. Furthermore, the ring closing metathesis of these N-O linked 1,7-enynes afforded vinylated-[1,2]oxazines in good yields. The reduction of the N-O bond of the obtained cyclopenta[d][1,2]oxazine is accomplished to access cyclopentenone-based amino alcohols.

Abstract
Metal-mediated cyclizations are important transformations in a natural product total synthesis. The Pauson-Khand reaction, particularly powerful for establishing cyclopentenone-containing structures, is distinguished as one of the most attractive annulation processes routinely employed in synthesis campaigns. This review covers Co, Rh, and Pd catalyzed Pauson-Khand reaction and summarizes its strategic applications in total syntheses of structurally complex natural products in the last five years. Additionally, the hetero-Pauson-Khand reaction in the synthesis of heterocycles will also be discussed. Focusing on the panorama of organic synthesis, this review highlights the strategically developed Pauson-Khand reaction in fulfilling total synthetic tasks and its synthetic attractiveness is aimed to be illustrated.

Abstract
The Pauson-Khand reaction (PKR) is one of the key methods for the construction of cyclopentenone derivatives, which can in turn undergo diverse chemical transformations to yield more complex biologically active molecules. Despite the increasing availability of fluorinated building blocks and methodologies to incorporate fluorine in compounds with biological interest, there have been few significant advances focused on the fluoro-Pauson-Khand reaction, both in the inter- and intramolecular versions. Furthermore, the use of vinyl fluorides as olefinic counterparts had been completely overlooked. In this review, we collect the advances both on the stoichiometric and catalytic intermolecular and intramolecular fluoro-Pauson-Khand reaction, with special attention to the PKR of enynes containing a fluoride moiety.

Abstract
The concept of encoding molecular information in bulk metals has been proposed over the past decade. The structure of various types of molecules, including enantiomers, can be imprinted in achiral substrates. Typically, to encode metals with chiral information, several approaches, based on chemical and electrochemical concepts, can be used. In this Minireview, recent achievements with respect to the development of such materials are discussed, including the entrapment of chiral biomolecules in metals, the chiral imprinting of metals, as well as the combination of imprinting with nanostructuring. The features and potential applications of these designer materials, such as chirooptical properties, enantioselective adsorption and separation, as well as their use for asymmetric synthesis will be presented. This will illustrate that the development of molecularly encoded metal structures opens up very interesting perspectives, especially in the frame of chiral technologies.

Abstract
Unlike many other state-of-the-art transition-metal-catalyzed allylic substitutions, cobalt-catalyzed allylic substitution has received much less attention from synthetic chemists for a long time despite the fact that cobalt is an earth-abundant, low-cost and thus much more sustainable option as either a reagent or a catalyst in organic synthesis. Recently, there has been an upsurge in the use of cobalt catalysis in allylic functionalization reactions, including allylic substitution, nucleophilic allylation, and Heck-type allylic functionalization, to construct synthetically significant building blocks featuring a double bond available for diverse downstream synthetic manipulations. This review highlights the current development of cobalt catalysis in allylic functionalization with an in-depth discussion of the reaction scope and mechanistic insights.

Abstract
A diastereoselective Co2(CO)8-mediated Pauson-Khand reaction (PKR) of siloxy-tethered 1,7-enynes for the synthesis of cyclopentaoxasilinones has been developed. This transformation can be performed on a multigram scale and is characterized by a broad substrate scope, functional group compatibility, and high chemo- and diastereoselectivity. Oxidation of the resulting cyclopentaoxasilinones delivers stereoenriched β-alkylated cyclopentenones, which are inaccessible by intermolecular PKRs. This research provides a practical solution to the challenges associated with the classical intermolecular PKR.

Abstract
An alkene-alkyne-silylene [2 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition takes place in the rhodium-catalyzed reaction of 1,6-enynes with borylsilanes bearing an alkoxy group on the silicon atoms, which react as synthetic equivalents of silylene. The reaction proceeds efficiently in 1,2-dichloroethane at 80-110 °C in the presence of a rhodium catalyst bearing bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (DPPM) as a ligand to afford 1-silacyclopent-2-enes in good to high yields.

Abstract
The first example of highly efficient kinetic resolution of exo-3-oxodicyclopentadienes and endo-3-oxodicyclopentadiene has been developed by means of Cu(I)-catalyzed asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine ylide. Compared with the existing methodologies for those synthetically important optically active convex molecules, the current protocol provides an alternative but more practical approach from the readily available racemic starting materials, which is free from the repetitive reduction/oxidation steps in the enzymatic resolution or the indispensable stoichiometric amount of chirality-induction reagents.

Abstract
A new metal-free oxidative [2+2+1] heteroannulation of 1,7-enynes with thiocyanates for producing thieno[3,4-c]quinolin-4(5H)-ones is presented. This reaction employs benzoylperoxide (BPO) as the oxidant and sodium thiocyanate as the sulfur source to enable the formation of three chemical bonds, two C-S bonds and one C-C bond, in a single reaction, and represents a new, practical access to S-heterocycles with the avoidance of the use of metal catalysts and excess bases.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed, amine-directed C(sp2)-H carbonylation of α,α-disubstituted benzylamine under 1 atm of CO for the facile synthesis of sterically hindered benzolactam has been developed. The key to success is the use of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy as the crucial sole oxidant. The synthetic utility of this transformation has been demonstrated by the first concise synthesis of the natural product spiropachysin-20-one.

Abstract
Chemical functionalization of nanotubes, in which their properties can be combined with those of other classes of materials, is fundamental to improve the physicochemical properties of nanotubes for potential technological applications. In this work, we theoretically and experimentally examine the Pauson-Khand reaction (PKR) on zig-zag, armchair, and chiral single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). Our benchmarked density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that an alternative pathway to the widely accepted Magnus reaction pathway has significantly lower energy barriers, thus suggesting the use of this alternative pathway to predict whether a PKR on SWCNTs is favored or hampered. Accessible energy barriers of up to 16 kcal mol-1 are estimated and our results suggest that semiconducting SWCNTs react faster than metallic ones, although both types can be functionalized. Guided by our theoretical predictions, cyclopentenones are successfully attached to SWCNTs by heating and are, subsequently, characterized in the laboratory.

Abstract
Currently, it still remains a challenge to amplify the spectrum of chemical fixation of CO2 , although enormous progress has been achieved in this field. In view of the widespread applications of CO in a myriad of industrial carbonylation processes, an alternative strategy is proposed in which CO2 reduction to CO is combined with carbonylation with CO generated ex situ, which affords efficiently pharmaceutically and agrochemically attractive molecules. As such, CO2 in this study was efficiently reduced by triphenysilane using CsF to CO in a sealed two-chamber reactor. Subsequently, palladium-catalyzed aminocarbonylation, carbonylative Sonogashira coupling of aryl iodides, and rhodium(I)-mediated Pauson-Khand-type reaction proceeded smoothly to yield amides, alkynones, and bicyclic cyclopentenones, respectively. Furthermore, the formed alkynones can further be successfully converted to a series of heterocycles, for example, pyrazoles, 3a-hydroxyisoxazolo[3,2-a]isoindol-8-(3aH)-one derivatives and pyrimidines in moderate yields. The striking features of this protocol include operational simplicity, high efficiency, and relatively broad application scope, which represents an alternative avenue for CO2 transformation.

Abstract
The Pauson-Khand reaction is a powerful tool for the synthesis of cyclopentenones through the efficient [2 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition of dicobalt alkyne complexes with alkenes. While intermolecular and intramolecular variants are widely known, transannular versions of this reaction are unknown and the basis of this study. Macrocyclic enyne and dienyne complexes were readily synthesized by palladium(II)-catalyzed oxidative macrocyclizations of bis(vinyl boronate esters) or ring-closing metathesis reactions followed by complexation with dicobalt octacarbonyl. Several reaction modalities of these macrocyclic complexes were uncovered. In addition to the first successful transannular Pauson-Khand reactions, other intermolecular and transannular cycloaddition reactions included intermolecular Pauson-Khand reactions, transannular [4 + 2] cycloaddition reactions, intermolecular [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition reactions, and intermolecular [2 + 2 + 1 + 1] cycloaddition reactions. The structural and reaction requirements for each process are presented.

Abstract
A new cascade process has been accomplished for the synthesis of tetrahydro-1H-cyclopenta[c]furans through palladium-catalyzed [2 + 2 + 1] cyclization of 1,6-enynes with vinyl bromides. Notably, the key feature of this transformation is the use of vinyl bromides as the C1 building block. Various functionalized tetrahydro-1H-cyclopenta[c]furans bearing two quaternary carbon centers could be obtained in good yields with excellent diastereoselectivities.
