Abstract
A first stereodivergent strategy for the asymmetric synthesis of all stereoisomers of 1-hydroxymethylpyrrolizidine alkaloids is developed using an asymmetric self-Mannich reaction as a key step. An anti-selective self-Mannich reaction of methyl 4-oxobutanoate with the PMP-amine catalyzed by a chiral secondary amine is successfully optimized for the asymmetric synthesis of (+)-isoretronecanol and (-)-isoretronecanol. A syn-selective self-Mannich reaction catalyzed by proline is utilized for the asymmetric synthesis of the diastereomer, (+)-laburnine, and its enantiomer, (-)-trachelanthamidine.

Abstract
The generation of cyclopent-2-enylzinc from cyclopentadiene based on a titanium-catalyzed hydroalumination/transmetallation sequence is described. Applied to the allylmetallation of phenylglycinol-derived imines, this sequence leads to homoallylic amines with moderate to good stereoselectivities. The synthesis of disubstituted azetidines and piperidines illustrates the potential of the method.

Abstract
Access to nonracemic amino ketones via a hydrozirconation/transmetalation/acylation sequence applied to Boc-protected 1-aminobut-3-enes is presented. This method was applied to the stereoselective synthesis of cyclic imines (or iminiums) which were diastereoselectively converted into 2-cis-substituted and 2,6-cis-disubstituted piperidines. The potential of this approach in the field of alkaloid synthesis was illustrated by the synthesis of (-)-coniine and (-)-indolizidine 209D. Furthermore, access to indolizidines bearing a quaternary center could also be envisioned through this strategy.

Abstract
A catalytic method for enantioselective synthesis of homoallylamides through Cu-catalyzed reactions of stable and easily accessible (pinacolato)allylborons with aryl-, heteroaryl-, alkyl-, or alkenyl-substituted N-phosphinoylimines is disclosed. Transformations are promoted by 1-5 mol % of readily accessible NHC-Cu complexes, derived from C(1)-symmetric imidazolinium salts, which can be prepared in multigram quantities in four steps from commercially available materials. Allyl additions deliver the desired products in up to quantitative yield and 98.5:1.5 enantiomeric ratio and are amenable to gram-scale operations. A mechanistic model accounting for the observed selectivity levels and trends is proposed.
