Abstract
The dynamic scenario of di-aryls-pyrano-chromenes was investigated using DFT calculations. The symmetry of the chromene scaffold and the presence of two ortho-substituted aryls substituents can generate two syn/anti diastereoisomers and conformational enantiomers with different rotational barriers. The relative conformations and configurations were derived using NOESY-1D experiments. Depending on the energies related to the conformational exchange, the experimental energy barriers were determined through Dynamic NMR, Dynamic HPLC or kinetic studies. The atropisomeric pairs were resolved in the latter scenario, and their absolute configuration was assigned using the ECD/TD-DFT method.

Abstract
A stable, hypervalent cyclic dibenzoiodolium salt acted as a strong halogen bonding (XB)-donor catalyst for [4+2] cycloaddition of 2-alkenylindoles, and not as an oxidizing agent. The cross-[4+2] cycloaddition of 2-vinylindoles with 2-alkenylindoles was catalyzed smoothly by the hypervalent cyclic dibenzoiodolium triflate catalyst to give the tetrahydrocarbazoles in up to 99 % yield with 17 : 1 diastereoselectivity. The hypervalent cyclic dibenzoiodolium salt was also applicable to the Povarov reaction of 2-vinylindole with N-p-methoxyphenyl (PMP) imine to give the indolyl-tetrahydroquinoline in 83 % yield.

Tetrahydroquinoline is one of the most important simple nitrogen heterocycles, being widespread in nature and present in a broad variety of pharmacologically active compounds. This Review summarizes the progress achieved in the chemistry of tetrahydroquinolines, with emphasis on their synthesis, during the period from mid-2010 to early 2018.
