Abstract
Light-addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS) has been widely used in biomedical applications since its advent. As a member of the potentiometric sensors, ion-sensitive LAPS (ISLAPS) can be obtained by modifying ion selective sensing membrane on the sensor surface. Compared with the conventional ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) with liquid contact, the all-solid-state ISEs have more advantages such as easy maintenance, more convenient for miniaturization and practical applications. However, the commonly used ion-sensitive membrane (ISM) matrix like PVC has many limitations such as poor adhesion to silicone-based sensor and easy overflow of the plasticizer from the membrane. In this work, LAPS was combined with a variety of ionophore-doped all-solid-state silicone-rubber ISMs for the first time, to establish a program-controlled multiplexed ISLAPS system for physiological ions (Na+, K+, Ca2+ and H+) detection. The silicone-rubber ISMs have better adhesion to silicon-based sensors without containing plasticizers, which can avoid the plasticizer pollution and improve the long-term stability. A layer of poly(3-octylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3OT) was pre-modified on the sensor surface to inhibit the formation of an aqueous layer and improve the sensor lifetime. With the aid of a translation stage, the light spot automatically illuminated the detection sites in sequence, and the response of the four ions could be obtained in one measurement within 1 min. The proposed multiplexed ISLAPS has good sensitivity with micromolar limit of detection (LOD), good selectivity and long-term stability (more than 3 months). The results of the real Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) sample detection proved that the ISLAPS system can be used for the physiological ions detection, and is promising to realize a multi-parameter microphysiometer.

Abstract
The use of microsensors for in-field monitoring of environmental parameters is gaining interest due to their advantages over conventional sensors. Among them microsensors based on semiconductor technology offer additional advantages such as small size, robustness, low output impedance and rapid response. Besides, the technology used allows integration of circuitry and multiple sensors in the same substrate and accordingly they can be implemented in compact probes for particular applications e.g., in situ monitoring and/or on-line measurements. In the field of microsensors for environmental applications, Ion Selective Field Effect Transistors (ISFETs) have a special interest. They are particularly helpful for measuring pH and other ions in small volumes and they can be integrated in compact flow cells for continuous measurements. In this paper the technologies used to fabricate ISFETs and a review of the role of ISFETs in the environmental field are presented.

Abstract
We investigate the use of the AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) as a novel transducer for the development of ion-selective chemically modified HEMT sensors (ChemHEMTs). For this, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membrane doped with ion-selective ionophores is deposited onto the area of the gate for the chemical recognition step, while the AlGaN/GaN HEMT is used as the transducer. In particular, the use of a valinocycin doped membrane with thickness of 50 microm generates a sensor with excellent analytical characteristics for the monitoring of K(+). The K(+)-ChemHEMT has sensitivity of 52.4 mV/pK(+)in the linear range of 10(-5) to 10(-2)M, while the detection limit is in the order of 3.1 x 10(-6)M. Also, the sensor shows selectivity similar to valinomycin-based ISEs, while the signal stability over time and the measurement to measurement reproducibility are very good.

Abstract
Potentiometric approach enabling sensitive and reliable detection for a series of 20 autonomic beta-adrenergic ligands with the use of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) based liquid membrane electrode coatings in the normal-bore cation exchange HPLC and narrow-bore reversed phase HPLC system is presented. It was found that in both kinds of HPLC modes with a contemporary hybrid polymer-silica packings an application of electrodes containing a tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl)borate (TCPB) gives limits of detection below to 8.0x10(-7) mol l(-1) (injected concentrations). In case of highly hydrophobic beta-adrenergic drugs the use of binary aqueous mobile phases with high concentrations of acetonitrile (up to 25% v/v) shifting an observable detection limits (DL) down to 2.0x10(-8) mol l(-1), especially for electrodes with addition of trioctylated alpha-cyclodextrin. The characteristics of developed potentiometric detectors was established by proposed a quantitative structure-potentiometric response relationships (QSPRRs) for a series of diversified beta-adrenergic compounds and for a set of the PVC based electrodes using TCPB alone as well as in combination with trioctylated alpha-cyclodextrin, dibenzo-18-crown-6, or calix[6]arene hexaethylester as the neutral macrocycle ionophore. A highly significant QSPRRs equations were obtained leading to reasonable prediction of the DL of specified electrodes in terms of the computationally derived set of molecular descriptors of beta-adrenergics and beta-blocking agents and similar amino alcohol type xenobiotics.

Abstract
The paper presents and compares the design of three potentiometric transducers: ion-selective field effect transistor (ISFET), solid-state Ag/AgCl electrode and miniaturized classical Ag/AgCl electrode. The reported transducers were fabricated using different, less or more complicated and expensive, technologies. The transducers were constructed to be compatible with the sensor housing of the flow-cell, designed previously. Moreover, the back-side contact structures of the two planar devices, where electrical connectors and the sensing layer are on the opposite sides, facilitated their application in the flow analysis. Exemplary potassium-selective microsensors based on developed transducers were prepared, applying plasticized PVC and polysiloxane membranes containing valinomycine. The determined microsensor performances allowed comparison of their usefulness for multiparameter flow analysis.

Abstract
An integrated NAD+-dependent enzyme field-effect transistor (ENFET) device for the biosensing of lactate is described. The aminosiloxane-functionalized gate interface is modified with pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) that acts as a catalyst for the oxidation of NADH. Synthetic amino-derivative of NAD+ is covalently linked to the PQQ monolayer. An affinity complex formed between the NAD+/PQQ-assembly and the NAD+-cofactor-dependent lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is crosslinked and yields an integrated biosensor ENFET-device for the analysis of lactate. Biocatalyzed oxidation of lactate generates NADH that is oxidized by PQQ in the presence of Ca2+-ions. The reduced catalyst, PQQH2, is oxidized by O2 in a process that constantly regenerates PQQ at the gate interface. The biocatalyzed formation of NADH and the O2-stimulated regeneration of PQQ yield a steady-state pH gradient between the gate interface and the bulk solution. The changes in the pH of the solution near the gate interface and, consequently, the gate potential are controlled by the substrate (lactate) concentration in the solution. The device reveals the detection limit of 1 x 10(-4) M for lactate and the sensitivity of 24+/-2 mV dec(-1). The response time of the device is as low as 15 s.

Abstract
The SiO2 gate of an ion-sensitive field-effect transistor, (ISFET), is functionalized with a TiO2 film that includes imprinted molecular sites for 4-chlorophenoxy acetic acid, (1), or 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid, (2). The functionalized devices that include the imprinted interfaces reveal an impressive selectivity in the sensing of the imprinted substrates Na+ -1 or Na+ -2. The detection limit for Na+ -1 is (5+/-2) x 10(-4) M, which corresponds to 38 mV x dec(-1) in the concentration range of 0.5 to 6 mM. The detection limit for the analysis of Na+ -2 is (1.0+/-0.2) x 10(-5) M, which corresponds to 28 mV dec(-1) in the concentration range 0.1-9.0 mM. The equilibration time of the devices is ca. 5 min.
