Abstract
The formation of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) is a normal method for the immobilization of biorecognition elements immobilized on SPR sensors. With this method, mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) with carboxylic and thiol group is the most commonly used. Dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) having two carboxylics and two thiol groups is a classical antidote for heavy metal ions. In this paper, DMSA was first used to form SAMs to connect the antigen on the chip of a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) immunosensor for detection of salbutamol (SAL), and the results were compared with a traditional (MPA)-SPR sensor. Dihydrolipoic acid(DHLA)-SPR showed that the recognition efficiency of antigen and antibody of DMSA-SPR immunosensor was 170.1% at room temperature with the linear range of 5 - 150 ng/mL. The recovery rate of this sensor applied to SAL detection in pork reached 94.9 - 108.0% and the limit of quantification (LOQ) was 5 ng/mL. The results were in good correlation with the analysis results of ultra-high phase liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) analysis. This novel DMSA-SPR immunosensor provides insight into a new idea and method for improving the sensitivity of SPR immunosensors and can be widely used in the detection of other small molecules.

Abstract
Abstractβ2-Agonists (β2-adrenergic agonists, bronchodilatants, and sympathomimetic drugs) are a group of drugs that are mainly used in asthma and obstructive pulmonary diseases. In practice, the substances used to contain one or more stereogenic centers in their structure and their enantiomers exhibit different pharmacological properties. In terms of bronchodilatory activity, (R)-enantiomers showed higher activity. The investigation of stereoselectivity in action and disposition of chiral drugs together with the preparation of pure enantiomer drugs calls for efficient stereoselective analytical methods. The overview focuses on the stereoselectivity in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of β2-agonists and summarizes the stereoselective analytical methods for the enantioseparation of racemic beta-agonists (HPLC, LC-MS, GC, TLC, CE). Some methods of the stereoselective synthesis for β2-agonists preparation are also presented.

Abstract
Being secondary amines, both salbutamol (SLB) and terbutaline (TRB) react by Maillard reaction (MR) with lactose, which is added as an inactive ingredient in tablets. The Amadori rearrangement products were synthesized, isolated, and characterized by mass spectrometry. In addition, a simple, selective, and precise reversed-phase liquid chromatography (LC) method was developed and validated for the determination of SLB and TRB in tablets, each in the presence of its MR impurity. The chromatographic separation was performed on a Symmetry® Waters C18 column (150 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) using a mobile phase consisting of 0.5% aqueous phosphoric acid to acetonitrile (90:10, v/v) at a flow rate of 0.7 mL minute−1. Quantitation was achieved using UV detection at 230 nm. Linearity, accuracy, and precision were found to be acceptable for the determination of SLB and TRB in the concentration range of 0.2–60 and 0.5–80 μg mL−1, respectively. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of SLB and TRB in bulk and in their tablets.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Clenbuterol (salbutamol), which increases muscle mass and decreases adipose tissue, is misused as a nutrient-repartitioning agent in livestock. In this paper a new sensitive method for determining clenbuterol in livestock is presented. The novelty of this approach is the separation and determination of salbutamol enantiomers with marked quantitative merits. RESULTS Four proton di-ionisable Nano-baskets, namely 5,11,17,23-tetrakis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-25,26-bis(carboxy-methoxy)calix[4]arene-27,28-crown-3, -crown-4, -crown-5 and -crown-6 in the cone conformation, were synthesised and used to prepare bonded phases for high-performance liquid chromatography separation. The new synthesised bonded phases were characterised and optimised. The bonding interactions of solute/bonded phases were examined and the main interactions are reported. CONCLUSION The clenbuterol levels in six samples of livestock meat (pork, pork casing, beef, beef casing, mutton and mutton casing) were analysed and the results revealed that for the best bonded phases the limits of detection and quantitation were 0.06 and 0.2 µg mL(-1) respectively.

Abstract
This paper describes the separation and quantification of salbutamol in pharmaceutical products (salbutamol syrups) by capillary electrophoresis (CE) with contactless conductivity detection (C(4)D). The system was studied by micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MEKC) and free solution capillary electrophoresis (FSCE), being the latter chosen in function of best resolution and sensitivity in comparison with the MEKC method. CE-C(4)D was applied to analysis of salbutamol in syrups utilizing 1.0 x 10(-2) molL(-1) acetic acid/sodium acetate buffer (pH 4.9) as running electrolyte. Tetraethylammonium (TEA) solution was used as internal standard. The results obtained include a linear dynamic range from 7. x 10(-5) to 3.0 x 10(-4) molL(-1) and good repeatability (R.S.D.=4.7% for n=10 for a 7.0 x 10(-5) molL(-1) salbutamol solution). The detection limit was calculated as 1.0 x 10(-5) molL(-1) and the limit of quantification was estimated as 3.3 x 10(-5) molL(-1). For syrups analysis the reproducibility presented deviations between 1.5% and 2.5% (three different days) obtained for measurements in triplicate.

Abstract
An attempt for the simultaneous separation of salbutamol (Sal) and bupivacaine (Bup) enantiomers was performed by capillary elecytrophoresis with a dual mixture of neutral cyclodextrins as chiral selector. The influence on the separation of several parameters such as buffer composition, pH, the concentration ratio of 2-hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HP-beta-CD) to dimethyl-beta-cyclodextrin (DM-beta-CD) was investigated. A better separation was obtained for Sal and Bup with the CD mixtures compared to the use of HP-beta-CD or DM-beta-CD alone. The best simultaneous separation of Sal and Bup enantiomers was achieved with a 20 mM HP-beta-CD and 20 mM DM-beta-CD at pH 2.5 in a triethanolamine (TEA)/phosphate buffer. This method-utilized chlorphenamine (Chl) as an internal standard was found to be linear in the range 0.5-100 microg/mL and 0.5-150 microg/mL for Sal and Bup enantiomers, respectively. The limits of detection for both enantiomers of Sal and Bup were 0.18 and 0.24 microg/mL, respectively. The proposed method was applied to monitor Sal and Bup enantiomers concentration change in rat blood samples obtained from a male rat after celiac doses administration 0-30 min of Sal and Bup racemate. The method could also be used to determine Sal enantiomers in a pharmaceutical aerosol.

Abstract
The four stereoisomers of itraconazole were resolved for the first time by EKC using a CD as chiral selector. A study on the enantiomeric separation ability of different neutral CDs was carried out. Heptakis-2,3,6-tri-O-methyl-beta-CD was shown to provide the highest values for the enantiomeric resolution. The influence of some experimental conditions, such as pH, chiral selector concentration, and temperature, on the enantiomeric separation was also studied. The use of a 100 mM phosphate buffer (pH 2.5), 30 mM in heptakis-2,3,6-tri-O-methyl-beta-CD together with an applied voltage of 30 kV and a temperature of 20 degrees C enabled the separation of the enantiomers of itraconazole with high resolutions (Rs > 3.0). Finally, the method was validated and successfully applied to the quantitation of itraconazole in three pharmaceutical formulations.

Abstract
A capillary electrophoresis (CE) method for the separation and determination of salbutamol (SAL) in commercial pharmaceuticals was developed. Several parameters affecting the separations were studied including type and concentration of the carrier ion, counter ion, and the pH of the buffer. A hydrodynamically closed CE separation mode employing a 300 mum I.D. capillary, dynamically coated by polymeric buffer additive, provided good performance parameters (precision, accuracy, sensitivity). The obtained results suggest that the proposed method is suitable for routine assay of SAL in pharmaceutical preparations and can be used as an alternative to the conventional open CE mode for this application.

Abstract
EKC using a neutral CD as chiral selector was applied in this work to the development of a method enabling the enantiomeric separation of ketoconazole and terconazole antifungals. The influence of different experimental conditions such as temperature, CD concentration, pH, and nature and concentration of the buffer on the enantiomeric resolution of the compounds studied was investigated. The use of 10 mM heptakis-(2,3,6-tri-O-methyl)-beta-CD in a 100 mM phosphate buffer (pH 3.5) with a temperature of 15 degrees C allowed the separation of the enantiomers of ketoconazole and terconazole with high resolution (R(s) > 2.0). The rapid separation of ketoconazole enantiomers with an analysis time less than 3 min was carried out after fitting some experimental parameters. The developed method was applied to the determination of ketoconazole in different pharmaceutical formulations.

Abstract
Separation of etodolac enantiomers, which exhibit different biological activity and pharmacokinetic profiles, has been achieved using the randomly substituted (2-hydroxy)propyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HP-beta-CD) as chiral selector in capillary electrophoresis. The selection of this CD was made after screening of different CD derivatives of neutral and anionic nature. The effect on the enantioresolution of the buffer concentration and of the degree of substitution (DS) and concentration of the CD as well as of instrumental parameters, such as the capillary temperature and the separation voltage, were studied. The highest resolution of etodolac enantiomers was around 2.5 using 100 mM phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) with 20 mM HP-beta-CD (DS approximately 4.2) and UV detection at 225 (10) nm with a reference wavelength at 360 (50) nm. Validation of the chiral method in terms of selectivity, linearity, precision (instrumental repeatability, method repeatability, intermediate precision), and the limits of detection and quantitation allowed to evaluate its quality to the analysis of etodolac enantiomers in different pharmaceutical preparations containing racemic etodolac.
