Abstract
Analogous to the ubiquitous alkoxide ligand, metal boroxide and boryloxy complexes are an underexplored class of hard anionic O- ligand. A new series of amine-stabilized Li, Sn(II), and Zn boryloxy complexes, comprising electron-rich tetrahedral boron centers have been synthesized and characterized. All complexes have been characterized by one-dimensional (1D), two-dimensional (2D), and DOSY NMR, which are consistent with the solid-state structures unambiguously determined via single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Electron-rich μ2- (Sn and Zn) and μ3- (Li) boryloxy binding modes are observed. Compounds 6-9 are the first complexes of this class, with the chelating bis- and tris-phenol ligands providing a scaffold that can be easily functionalized and provides access to the boronic acid pro-ligand, hence allowing facile direct synthesis of the resulting compounds. Computational quantum chemical studies suggest a significant enhancement of the π-donor ability of the amine-stabilized boryloxy ligand because of electron donation from the amine functionality into the p-orbital of the boron atom.

Abstract
This work shows why it is imperious to use an excess of butyllithium for a directed ortho-lithiation of a trifluoromethyl sulfoximine. The analysis of mixtures of n-BuLi and sulfoximine 1 in THF-d8 using {1 H, 6 Li, 13 C, 15 N, 19 F} NMR experiments at low temperatures reveal that a first deprotonation occurs that leads to dimeric and tetrameric N-lithiated sulfoximine (93 : 7). Using an excess n-BuLi (5 equivalents), the second deprotonation on the ortho-position of the aromatic occurs. Six species were observed and characterized on the way. It includes three aggregates involving a sulfoximine: i) a [dilithiated sulfoximine/(n-BuLi)] dimer solvated by four molecules of THF (Agg2, 39 %); ii) a [dilithiated sulfoximine/(n-BuLi)3 ] tetramer solvated by six molecules of THF (Agg3, 39 %); iii) a [dilithiated sulfoximine/(n-BuOLi)3 ] tetramer solvated by four molecules of THF (Agg1, 22 %). A DFT study afforded optimized solvated structures for all these aggregates, fully consistent with the NMR data.

Abstract
Dilithio sulfonyl methandiides are a synthetically and structurally highly interesting group of functionalized geminal dianions. Although very desirable, knowledge of the structure of dilithio methandiides in solution was lacking up to now. Herein, we describe the isolation and determination of the structure of tetrameric dilithio (trimethylsilyl)(phenylsulfonyl) methandiide in solution and in the crystal. The elucidation of the structure of the tetramer is based on crystal structure analysis and 13C/6Li NMR spectroscopic data. A characteristic feature of the structure of the tetramer is the C2 symmetric C–Li chain, composed of four doubly Li-coordinated dianionic carbon and five Li atoms. Three Li atoms are devoid of a contact to a dianionic C atom. The tetramer, the dianionic C atoms of which undergo fast exchange, is in THF solution in fast equilibrium with a further aggregate, which is stable only at low temperatures.

Abstract
tBuCH=C(Li)S(O)(NSO2 Tol)Ph⋅L (L=2THF, TMEDA) (1⋅L) in THF solution is a monomer with a C-Li bond according to NMR spectroscopy and cryoscopy. It was identified as CIP through the scalar 13 C,6 Li coupling and 6 Li,{1 H} NOE experiments. The CIP has a six-membered C-Li-O-S-N-S chelate ring structure. 6 Li,1 H FUCOUP and 6 Li,1 H HMQC NMR experiments of 1⋅TMEDA revealed a scalar 6 Li,1 H coupling across the Li-C=C-H bonds. According to the NMR data the π-bond of 1⋅L is polarized by the negative charge of the anionic C atom. tBuCH=C(Li)S(O)(NMe)Ph (2⋅L) is most likely also a monomer with a C-Li bond. According to 6 Li,{1 H} NOE experiments it has a four-membered C-Li-N-S chelate ring structure. 13 C NMR spectroscopy showed the C-Li bonds of 1⋅L and 2⋅L to be fluxional. 1 H NMR spectroscopy and 1D TOCSY experiments of Ph2 C=C(Li)S(O)(NSO2 Tol)Ph revealed topomerization of the phenyl groups, which is attributed to a fast positional exchange of the Li atom and the sulfonimidoyl group. The fluxionality of the C-Li bond and the interchange of the Li atom and the sulfonimidoyl group at the anionic C atom of sulfonimidoyl vinyllithiums, which result in a low configurational stability, most likely involve the formation of O,Li and N,Li CIPs through heterolysis of the C-Li bond. Ab initio calculation of MeCH=C(Li)S(O)(NMe)Ph yielded an energy minimum structure with a C-Li bond, a four-membered C-Li-N-S chelate ring and a strongly expanded C=C-Li bond angle. According to calculation of MeCH=C(Li)S(O)(NMe)Ph, [MeCH=CS(O)(NMe)Ph]- and MeCH=C(H)S(O)(NMe)Ph deprotonation is not accompanied by a shortening of the C-S bond. Ab initio calculation of MeCH=C(Li)S(O)(NSO2 Me)Ph gave a structure with a C-Li bond and a six-membered C-Li-O-S-N-S chelate ring. 6 Li,1 H NOE experiments and cryoscopy of LiCH2 S(O)(NSO2 Tol)Ph (3) revealed a monomeric CIP with a C-Li bond. The CIP has a six-membered C-Li-O-S-N-S chelate ring structure found in polymeric 3 in the crystal.

Abstract
Herein, we report the preparation of a new unsymmetrical, bis(thiophosphinoyl)-substituted dilithio methandiide and its application for the synthesis of zirconium- and palladium-carbene complexes. These complexes were found to exhibit remarkably shielded (13)C NMR shifts, which are much more highfield-shifted than those of "normal" carbene complexes. DFT calculations were performed to determine the origin of these observations and to distinguish the electronic structure of these and related carbene complexes compared with the classical Fischer and Schrock-type complexes. Various methods show that these systems are best described as highly polarized Schrock-type complexes, in which the metal-carbon bond possesses more electrostatic contributions than in the prototype Schrock systems, or even as "masked" methandiides. As such, geminal dianions represent a kind of "extreme" Schrock-type ligands favoring the ionic resonance structure M(+)-CR2(-) as often used in textbooks to explain the nucleophilic nature of Schrock complexes.

Abstract
The alpha,alpha'-stabilized carbanion complexes [(PhSO2)2CHLi.THF]1, [(PhSO2)2CHNa.THF]2 and [(PhSO2)2CHK]3 were prepared by the direct deprotonation of bis(phenylsulfonyl)methane I in THF with one molar equivalent of MeLi, BuNa and BnK respectively. The geminal dianionic complexes [(PhSO2)2CLi2.THF]4, [(PhSO2)2CNa2.0.55THF]5 and [(PhSO2)2CK2]6 were similarly prepared by the reaction of I with two molar equivalents of MeLi, BuNa and BnK respectively in THF. NMR and MS solution studies of 1-3 are consistent with the formation of charge-separated species in DMSO media. Solutions studies of 4-6, in conjunction with trapping experiments, indicate that the dianions deprotonate DMSO and regenerate the monoanions 1-3. Crystallographic analysis of 1 revealed a 1D chain polymer in which the metal centers are chelated by the bis(sulfonyl) ligands and connect to neighboring units through Li-O(S) interactions. An unexpected feature of 1 is that the polymeric chains are homochiral, since the chelating ligands of the backbone adopt the same relative configuration. Also, the phenyl substituents of each chelate in 1 are oriented in a cisoid manner. The sodium derivative 2 adopts a related solid-state structure, where enantiomeric pairs of chains combine to give a 1D ribbon motif. The lithium bis(phenylsulfonyl)imides [(PhSO2)2NLi.THF]9 and [(PhSO2)2NLi.Pyr2]10 were also prepared and structurally characterized. In the solid state 9 has a similar connectivity to that found for 1 but with heterochiral chains. In comparison, the more highly solvated complex 10 forms a 1D polymeric arrangement without chelation of the ligands and with the phenyl substituents oriented in a transoid fashion.

Abstract
The sequential reaction of ZnMe2 with a 2-pyridylamine (HN(2-C5H4N)R, R = Ph: 1; 3,5-Xy (=3,5-xylyl): 2; 2,6-Xy: 3; Bz (=benzyl): 4; Me: 5), tBuLi and thereafter with oxygen affords various lithium zincate species, the solid-state structures of which reveal a diversity of oxo-capture modes. Amine 1 reacts to give both dimeric THF [Li(Me)OZn[N(2-C5H4N)Ph]2] (6), wherein oxygen has inserted into the Zn-C bond of a [MeZn[N(2-C5H4N)-Ph]2] ion, and the trigonal Li2Zn complex, bis(OtBu)-capped (THF x Li)2-[[(mu3-O)tBu]2Zn[N(2-C5H4N)Ph]2] (7). The structural analogue of 6 (8) results from the employment of 2, while the use of more sterically congested 3 yields a pseudo-cubane dimer [(THF x [Li(tBu)OZn(OtBu)Me]]2] (9) notable for the retention of labile Zn-C(Me). Amines 4 and 5 afford the oxo-encapsulation products [mu4-O)Zn4[(2-C5H4N)-NBz]6] (10b), and [tBu(mu3-O)-Li3(mu6-O)Zn3[(2-C5H4N)NMe]6] (11), respectively, with concomitant oxo-insertion into a Li-C interaction resulting in capping of the fac-isomeric (mu6-O)M3M'3 distorted octahedral core of the latter complex by a tert-butoxide group.

Abstract
The compounds [[(thf)Li2-[H2CS(NtBu)2]]2] (1) and [((thf)Li2[(Et)-(Me)CS(NtBu)2])2] (2) can be synthesized in a two-step reaction. Firstly addition of an alkyllithium to sulfur diimide gives the diazaalkylsulfinate [RS(NtBu)2] (R =Me, sBu). In a second step the alpha-carbon atom in R is metalated with one equivalent of methyllithium to give the S-ylides. This new class of compounds can be rationalized as sulfite analogues, in which two oxygen atoms are each isoelectronically replaced by a NtBu group and the remaining oxygen atom is replaced by a CR2 group. Similar to Corey's S-ylides (R2(O)S+-CR2) and Wittig's phosphonium ylides (R3P+ - -CR2), these molecules contain a positively charged sulfur atom next to a carbanionic center. Therefore nucleophilic addition reactions of the carbon atom are feasible. The reaction of a sulfur diimide with the anionic carbon center in [H2CS-(NtBu)2]2- gives the intermediate alkylbis(diazasulfinate) [(tBuN)2SCH2S(NtBu)2]2-. The acidity of the hydrogen atoms at the bridging CH2 group is high enough to give, upon deprotonation, the [(tBuN)2SCHS(NtBu)2]3- trianion in [[(thf)Li3[(tBuN)2SCHS(NtBu)2]]2] (3). In [(Et)(Me)CS(NtBu)2]2 the nucleophilic carbon atom is sterically hindered and transimidation instead of deprotonation is observed. In a complex redox process [(thf)6Li6S((NtBu)3S]2] is recovered. The two new classes of compounds broaden the rich coordination chemistry of the triazasulfites by the introduction of a hard carbon center.

Abstract
Treatment of dilithiated nitriles and sulfones with oxalic acid bis(imidoyl) chlorides resulted in a new cyclization reaction which provided a variety of (3-imino-2, 3-dihydro-1H-indol-2-ylidene)acetonitriles and -sulfones in good yields. The reactions proceeded by condensation of the dianions with the first imidoyl chloride group of the bis(imidoyl) chloride, subsequent intramolecular attack of the ortho carbon of the arylimino group onto the second imidoyl chloride group, and final aromatization. Excellent stereoselectivities were observed in most cases.
