Abstract
False-positive diagnosis and overdiagnosis are ongoing issues in clinical diagnosis of thyroid cancer. Identifying new disease markers is crucial for early diagnosis and improved treatment. Aminopeptidase N (APN) is a promising biomarker for cancer diagnosis due to its critical roles in tumor invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis, and other processes. However, its potential as biomarker for thyroid cancer diagnosis needs further investigation. This study developed an ultra-sensitive near-infrared fluorescence probe, LAN-apn, to investigate the expression level of APN in thyroid cancer and evaluate its potential as biomarker of thyroid cancer. LAN-apn could accurately and sensitively determine APN through fluorescence method (DL = 0.069 ng/mL) and colorimetric method (DL = 4.5 ng/mL). In addition, LAN-apn allowed for successful fluorescence imaging of APN in thyroid cancer cells and thyroid cancer tumors both in vivo and in vitro, and confirmed that APN was significantly upregulated in thyroid cancer. Therefore, APN may become a new biomarker for thyroid cancer diagnosis, and LAN-apn could be used as a new imaging tool for the study of APN-thyroid cancer relationship and the early diagnosis of thyroid cancer.

Abstract
The prevalence of high birth weight or large for gestational age (LGA) infants is increasing, with increasing evidence of pregnancy-related factors that may have long-term impacts on the health of the mother and baby. We aimed to determine the association between excessive fetal growth, specifically LGA and macrosomia, and subsequent maternal cancer by performing a prospective population-based cohort study. The data set was based on the Shanghai Birth Registry and Shanghai Cancer Registry, with medical records from the Shanghai Health Information Network as a supplement. Macrosomia and LGA prevalence was higher in women who developed cancer than in women who did not. Having an LGA child in the first delivery was associated with a subsequently increased risk of maternal cancer (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.08, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.04-1.11). Additionally, in the last and heaviest deliveries, there were similar associations between LGA births and maternal cancer rates (HR = 1.08, 95% CI 1.04-1.12; HR = 1.08, 95% CI 1.05-1.12, respectively). Furthermore, a substantially increased trend in the risk of maternal cancer was associated with birth weights exceeding 2500 g. Our study supports the association between LGA births and increased risks of maternal cancer, but this risk requires further investigation.

Abstract
Thyroid cancer incidence is higher in women than men, especially during the reproductive years, for reasons that remain poorly understood. Using population-based registry data from 4 Nordic countries through 2015, we examined associations of perinatal characteristics with risk of maternal thyroid cancer. Cases were women diagnosed with thyroid cancer ≥2 years after last birth (n = 7,425, 83% papillary). Cases were matched to controls (n = 67,903) by mother's birth year, country, and county of residence. Odds ratios (ORs) were estimated using conditional logistic regression models adjusting for parity. Older age at first pregnancy, postpartum hemorrhage (OR = 1.18, 95% (confidence interval) CI: 1.08, 1.29), and benign thyroid conditions (ORs ranging from 1.64 for hypothyroidism to 10.35 for thyroid neoplasms) were associated with increased thyroid cancer risk, as were higher offspring birth weight (per 1-kg increase, OR = 1.17, 95% CI: 1.12, 1.22) and higher likelihood of offspring being large for gestational age (OR = 1.26, 95% CI: 1.11, 1.43). Unmarried/noncohabiting status (OR = 0.91, 95% CI: 0.84, 0.98), maternal smoking (OR = 0.75, 95% CI: 0.67, 0.84), and preterm birth (OR = 0.90, 95% CI: 0.83, 0.98) were associated with reduced risk. Several factors (e.g., older age at first pregnancy, maternal smoking, goiter, benign neoplasms, postpartum hemorrhage, hyperemesis gravidarum, and neonatal jaundice) were associated with advanced thyroid cancer. These findings suggest that some perinatal exposures may influence maternal thyroid cancer risk.

Abstract
Hormone-dependent tissues' cancers (mainly breast and endometrial and several others) are among the most frequent malignancies in adults and are often discussed in context of their correlation with other chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), for example, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions, and their risk factors, which may also be hormone metabolic. An idea that is often expressed delineates common factors leading to NCDs of malignant and nonmalignant nature. However, this idea is not always confirmed by study results. The reasons for this discrepancy are not clear and require further analysis. This editorial tries to show the importance of this problem with a few examples (in particular, by attracting information on the role of birthweight, adult height and family history of diabetes) which may help us understand some mechanisms behind interconnections of major NCDs, including cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aetiology of thyroid cancer is poorly understood, but it is possible that this malignancy has origins early in life. It is, however, currently unknown if birthweight, as an indicator of prenatal growth, is related to thyroid cancer risk. OBJECTIVE To investigate if birthweight is associated with the later risk of thyroid cancer and its histological types. METHODS 246,141 children (120,505 girls, 125,636 boys) from the Copenhagen School Health Records Register, born 1936-1989, were prospectively followed in the Danish Cancer Registry. Cox regressions were used to estimate hazards ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS During follow up, 241 individuals (172 women, 69 men) were diagnosed with thyroid cancer (162 papillary, 53 follicular). Birthweight was significantly and positively associated with risk of thyroid cancer overall (HR = 1.30 [95% CI: 1.03-1.64] per kilogram). There were no sex differences in the associations. Birthweight was positively and significantly associated with follicular thyroid cancer (HR = 1.74 [95% CI: 1.07-2.82] per kilogram), and although there was an indication of a positive association, it did not reach statistical significance for the more common papillary type (HR = 1.20 [95% CI: 0.90-1.59] per kilogram). CONCLUSION A heavier weight at birth is associated with an elevated risk of total and follicular thyroid cancer, which underscores that prenatal exposures may be important in thyroid cancer aetiology.

Abstract
An understanding of the origin of cancer is critical for cancer prevention and treatment. Complex biological mechanisms promote carcinogenesis, and there is increasing evidence that pregnancy-related exposures influence foetal growth cell division and organ functioning and may have a long-lasting impact on health and disease susceptibility in the mothers and offspring. Nulliparity is an established risk factor for breast, ovarian, endometrial and possibly pancreatic cancer, whilst the risk of kidney cancer is elevated in parous compared with nulliparous women. For breast, endometrial and ovarian cancer, each pregnancy provides an additional risk reduction. The associations of parity with thyroid and colorectal cancers are uncertain. The timing of reproductive events is also recognized to be important. Older age at first birth is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, and older age at last birth is associated with a reduced risk of endometrial cancer. The risks of breast and endometrial cancers increase with younger age at menarche and older age at menopause. The mechanisms, and hormone profiles, that underlie alterations in maternal cancer risk are not fully understood and may differ by malignancy. Linking health registries and pooling of data in the Nordic countries have provided opportunities to conduct epidemiologic research of pregnancy exposures and subsequent cancer. We review the maternal risk of several malignancies, including those with a well-known hormonal aetiology and those with less established relationships. The tendency for women to have fewer pregnancies and at later ages, together with the age-dependent increase in the incidence of most malignancies, is expected to affect the incidence of pregnancy-associated cancer.
