Abstract
OBJECTIVES Due to the government's liberalization of epidemic control, the current 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has started to spread widely within China. This study aimed to use the fetal heart quantification (fetal HQ) technique to assess the cardiac function and morphology of the fetuses of pregnant women diagnosed with COVID-19 in the early stages of pregnancy. METHODS Exactly 86 pregnant women diagnosed with COVID-19 infection in early pregnancy (COVID-19 group) and 90 healthy pregnant women (control group) who underwent fetal echocardiography were prospectively included in this study. The fetal HQ technique was applied to compare the differences in the global sphericity index (GSI), global strain values (GS), fractional area change (FAC), and 24-segment fractional shortening (FS) of the left and right ventricles, between the COVID-19 group and the control group. RESULTS Compared with the control group, the differences in GS and 24-segment FS of the left ventricle in the COVID-19 group were not statistically significant. However, the COVID-19 group showed lower GSI values compared with the control group (1.24 vs 1.28). FAC (48.12%) of the left ventricle and GS (-23.55%), FAC (41.74%) of the right ventricle in the COVID-19 group were reduced compared with FAC (50.50%) of the left ventricle and GS (-27.63%), FAC (46.01%) of the right ventricle in the control group. Segmental analysis revealed reduced FS in segments 20-24 in the COVID-19 group compared with the control group. Right ventricular GS was an independent predictor of adverse pregnancy outcome with an optimal cutoff value of -18.66%. CONCLUSIONS The results suggest that COVID-19 infection in early pregnancy may have a negative impact on fetal cardiac morphology and function. Fetal HQ may offer a new assessment method for the early identification of fetal cardiac alterations in pregnant women infected with COVID-19.

Abstract
We report the first case of significant fetal myocardial involvement associated with maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection, in which restoration of cardiac function at birth was noted. The demonstration of previous infection was supported by the quantification of humoral response in child and mother, in particular the presence of anti-N antibodies and through the detection of specific antibodies against the BA.4/5 variant.

Abstract
During the last decades, a growing number of studies have shown that infections during pregnancy have an important impact on both pregnant women and their fetuses. Our goal was to include newborns from pregnancies with SARS-CoV-2 infection and to investigate the extension of neonatal complications using cardiac, abdominal, and cerebral ultrasonography; hearing testing; and indirect ophthalmoscopy. Likewise, neonates whose mothers were vaccinated against COVID-19 during pregnancy and those from pathology-free pregnancies were examined. A total of 458 mother-newborn dyads were included over a period of 10 months and divided into three groups: the COVID-19 group, vaccine group, and control group. Although six cardiac malformations were found in the COVID-19 group, no correlation was made compared to the vaccine and control group (p = 0.07). Grade 1 intraventricular hemorrhage and hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy were the most prevalent among neonates from mothers with SARS-CoV-2 infection (p = 0.002 and p < 0.001, respectively). The kidney anomaly found to be most frequent in this group was grade 1 unilateral hydronephrosis (p < 0.001). COVID-19 disease during the gestational period had no effect on the auditory or visual function. Our findings highlight the importance of implementing proper infection control practices for future mothers, and by continuing to investigate this topic, we can gather valuable insights that will improve neonatal health in this context.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the cardiac functions of fetuses with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) between their control groups and investigate its relationship with perinatal outcomes. METHODS This prospective study was conducted with 102 pregnant women. Pregnant women with PPROM were divided into two subgroups Group A, between 26 and 30 weeks, and Group B, between 30 and 34 weeks. A control group was formed by randomly including one healthy pregnant woman for each study patient. Sociodemographic, obstetric data, tissue Doppler imaging, and M-mode imaging results were compared. The relationship between echocardiographic parameters and perinatal outcomes was also investigated. RESULTS Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), S', and ET' of systolic cardiac parameters were shortened in both groups compared with their controls. Diastolic function indicator E'/A', and global function indicator myocardial performance index' increased in both groups. Isovolumetric contraction time' did not change between groups. A correlation was found between myocardial performance index', and the length of neonatal intensive care unit stay in Group A and TAPSE and duration of respiratory support and length of neonatal intensive care unit stay in Group B. CONCLUSIONS The fetal cardiac function seems to be affected by PPROM, and these changes are associated with neonatal outcomes. Therefore, administering fetal cardiac function evaluation in pregnancies complicated by PPROM may help physicians establish more appropriate clinical management protocols in this special population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate both short and mid-term effects of maternal COVID-19 on cardiac functions of fetuses and children. METHODS The present case-control study was conducted on 36 pregnant women who had COVID-19 infection in the second trimester of pregnancy and 30 pregnant women as healthy controls. Fetal, neonatal, and infant cardiac functions were compared between the groups. Assessment of fetal cardiac functions were performed in the last trimester of the pregnancy at least 6 weeks after the recovery of infection. The first postnatal echo was performed within the first 2 weeks and the follow-up (second) echo was performed in the 6-8 weeks of life. RESULTS The demographic data were similar between groups. Interventricular septum and left ventricular posterior wall end-diastolic dimensions were significantly higher in the study group in both fetal, neonatal, and infant periods. Impaired diastolic functions of right and left ventricles were detected and myocardial performance indexes with tissue doppler imaging of both lateral walls and septum were significantly higher than controls at all periods. CONCLUSION Maternal COVID-19 seems to have a global impact on the cardiac functions of babies in the short and mid-term periods after maternal recovery.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Our aim was to investigate the effects of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection on fetal myocardial performance in women who had it during their pregnancy. MATERIALS AND METHODS In our prospective cohort study including healthy pregnant women and pregnant with SARS-CoV-2 infection, we collected patients' data between June 2021 and April 2022. Maternal characteristics, gestational age at SARS-CoV-2 infection and ultrasound examination, and body mass index were noted. Fetal biometry, fetal anatomy scanning, placenta, amniotic fluid index (AFI), and Doppler parameters were routinely examined in all patients. Left ventricular myocardial performance index (MPI) was measured during fetal echocardiography examination. Doppler parameters, AFI, and MPI values were compared between two groups. RESULTS Compared with the control group (n = 80), MPI values were found within normal limits in fetuses of pregnant women with SARS-CoV-2 infection (n = 80) (MPI: 0.38 ± 0.06 in the control groups vs. 0.39 ± 0.05 in the SARS-COV-2 positive group, p = 0.79). There was no relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection and changes in AFI and umbilical artery pulsatility index (PI) values. Uterine artery PI values were significantly higher in pregnant women with (SARS-CoV-2) infection (0.81 in the control group vs. 0.97 in the SARS-CoV-2 group, p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Fetal cardiac functions were not affected in pregnant women with previous (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Further metaanalyses are warranted to confirm the results.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the fetal cardiac functions in preeclampsia and control group, and determine whether the severity or amount of proteinuria affects fetal cardiac functions. METHODS This prospective case-control study involves 48 pregnant women with preeclampsia and 48 healthy women. Pulsed wave Doppler, M-mode, and tissue Doppler imaging were used to measure the cardiac function between the 32 and 34 gestational weeks in each group. All Doppler indices and cardiac function parameters were also compared in subgroups with mild and severe preeclampsia and between subgroups with proteinuria >3 g/24 hours and <3 g/24 hours. RESULTS Decreased diastolic function (decreased E, A, E', and A' values in mitral/tricuspid valves and increased isovolumetric relaxation time) and decreased systolic functions (decreased mitral and tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion and S' value in mitral/tricuspid valves) were detected in the preeclampsia group. Decreased tricuspid E value in severe preeclampsia compared with mild preeclampsia was shown in the present study. CONCLUSION Preeclampsia may cause changes in systolic and diastolic functions in the fetal heart. Subclinical functional changes of these fetuses can be detected earlier and more sensitively with the help of tissue Doppler imaging. Biventricular diastolic functional changes are more prominent in preeclamptic cases with proteinuria >3 g/24 hours.

Abstract
Most obstetrical studies have focused on maternal response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus but much less is known about the effect of COVID-19 on fetal physiology. We aimed to evaluate the effect of the maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection on the fetal homeostasis with the use of detailed ultrasonography and echocardiography and consideration of the effect of vaccination. This was a multi-center study of fetuses who had prenatal detailed ultrasound and echocardiographic examinations performed by fetal cardiology specialists. The subjects were divided based on the COVID vaccination status (vaccinated women who did not have COVID-group V, unvaccinated women who had COVID-group UV, and unvaccinated women who did not have COVID-control group). We evaluated the ultrasound and echocardiography results obtained. The study group included 237 gravidas from four prenatal cardiology centers. In the group of fetuses with normal heart anatomy, normal cardiovascular function had 147 (81%) fetuses and functional cardiovascular anomalies were present in 35 (19%) cases. Functional cardiovascular anomalies were present in 11 (16%) fetuses in the V group, 19 (47%) fetuses in the UV group and 5 (8%) fetuses in the control group (p < 0.01). There were 56 (24%) fetuses with extracardiac anomalies. Extracardiac anomalies were present in 20 (22%) fetuses in the V group, 22 (45%) fetuses of the UV group and in 14 (14%) fetuses in the control group (p < 0.01). Our study has proved that maternal COVID-19 infection can affect the fetal physiology and mild cardiac and extracardiac markers detected by fetal ultrasonography and echocardiography. Moreover, maternal vaccination results in lower occurrence of these findings in fetuses.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare umbilical cord blood pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels in newborns of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) positive pregnancies to those of SARS-COV-2 negative pregnancies. METHODS Prospectively cord blood samples from newborns of 42 SARS-COV-2 positive women, and 42 negative pregnant were collected at birth and analyzed for pro-BNP levels. RESULTS The mean cord blood pro-BNP level was significantly higher in newborns of SARS-COV-2 positive women than in controls. Furthermore, the pro-BNP level was an independent predictor of NİCU admission in both SARS-COV-2 positive and control patients. CONCLUSION Cord blood pro-BNP level may be a parameter that can predict the under-stress fetus and adverse perinatal outcomes especially, in cases where placental involvement is present as in SARS-COV-2 infection.

Abstract
The longitudinal trajectories of cardiac structure and function following SARS-CoV-2 infection are unclear. Therefore, this meta-analysis aims to elucidate the effect of SARS-CoV-2 infection on cardiac function in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) survivors after recovery. PubMed/MEDLINE, CENTRAL, and EMBASE were systematically searched for articles published up to 1st August 2022. A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed to calculate the pooled effects size and 95% confidence interval of each outcome. A total of 21 studies including 2394 individuals (1436 post-COVID-19 cases and 958 controls) were included in the present meta-analysis. The pooled analyses compared with control groups showed a significant association between post-COVID-19 and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LV EF), LV end-diastolic volume (LV EDV), LV stroke volume (LV SV), mitral annular plane systolic excursion (MAPSE), global longitudinal strain, right ventricular EF (RV EF), RV EDV, RV ESV, RV SV, tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion, and increased LV mass. Subgroup analysis based on the severity of COVID-19 in the acute phase and subsequent chronic outcomes revealed that LV EF, MAPSE, RV EF, and RV ESV only decreased in studies including patients with a history of intensive care unit admission. Cardiac impairment after SARS-CoV-2 infection persisted in recovered COVID-19 patients even after 1 year. Future studies are warranted to determine the biological mechanisms underlying the long-term cardiovascular consequences of COVID-19.

Cardiovascular Complications of COVID-19 among Pregnant Women and Their Fetuses: A Systematic Review. J Clin Med 2022; 11:jcm11206194. Abstract
Background: COVID-19 is a viral infectious disease leading to a spectrum of clinical complications, especially cardiovascular. Evidence shows that this infection can potentially accompany a worse outcome in pregnant women. Cardiovascular complications in mothers and their fetuses are reported by previous studies. Objective: In this systematic review, we aim to investigate the cardiovascular complications of COVID-19 during pregnancy in the mothers and fetus, according to the published literature. Method: We systematically searched the online databases of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, using relevant keywords up to April 2022. We included all observational studies reporting cardiovascular complications among COVID-19-affected pregnant women and their fetuses. Results: We included 74 studies containing 47582 pregnant COVID-19 cases. Pre-eclampsia, hypertensive disorders, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, myocardial infarction, thrombosis formation, alterations in maternal–fetal Doppler patterns, and maternal and fetal arrhythmia were reported as cardiovascular complications. The highest incidences of pre-eclampsia/eclampsia among COVID-19 pregnant cases, reported by studies, were 69% and 62%, and the lowest were 0.5% and 3%. The highest and lowest incidences of fetal bradycardia were 20% and 3%, and regarding fetal tachycardia, 5.4% and 1%, respectively. Conclusion: SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy can potentially be associated with cardiovascular complications in the mother, particularly pre-eclampsia and heart failure. Moreover, SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy can potentially cause cardiovascular complications in the fetus, particularly arrhythmia.
