Abstract
The chiral separation capability of Chiral-CD-Ph column, containing phenylcarbamate-β-cyclodextrin as the chiral selector in polar organic mode was investigated. A total of twenty-five compounds with different structures and acid-base properties were evaluated, and twenty of them were separated using acetonitrile or methanol as eluent. The effects of various chromatographic parameters, such as the type and proportion of organic modifier, flow rate, and column temperature were analyzed in detail in relation to chromatographic performance. A U-shape retention curve was observed when a mixture of acetonitrile and methanol was used as the eluent, indicating different types of interactions in different solvent mixtures. Van 't Hoff analysis was used for calculation of thermodynamic parameters which revealed that the enantioseparation is mainly enthalpy controlled; however, entropic control was also observed. The enantiomer recognition ability at the atomic level was also investigated through a molecular docking study, which revealed surface binding in polar organic mode instead of inclusion complexation. Our work proves that the phenylcarbamate-β-cyclodextrin-based chiral stationary phase can be effectively used in polar organic mode for the chiral separation of structurally diverse compounds. Furthermore, it is important to note that our study demonstrated that surface binding is responsible for the formation of supramolecular complexes in certain cyclodextrin derivatives.

A New Benzyl Phenethanolamine-β-Cyclodextrin Bonded Phase: Chiral Chromatography Performance and Application for LC-MS/MS Analysis of Pesticide Enantiomers in Fruits and Vegetables. J AOAC Int 2022; 105:1319-1329. Abstract
Abstract
Background
At present, the research on achiral drug and pesticide residue detection methods is still the mainstay at home and abroad, and there is still a lack of systematic research on the enantiomeric analysis of chiral drugs and pesticides.
Objective
In order to prepare a novel chiral stationary phase, whose “multi-mode” chiral separation chromatographic performance and its utility was verified.
Method
An S-(-)-2-benzylamino-1-phenylethanol mono-derivative β-cyclodextrin bonded stationary phase (BzCSP) was prepared based on the “thiol-ene” addition reaction. The chiral compounds including four types of chiral compounds were used as “probes,” and their chiral chromatographic properties were evaluated. Furthermore, a new LC-MS/MS method for the determination of the enantiomeric residues of three chiral pesticides in five kinds of fruits and vegetables was established.
Results
The study found that the novel stationary phase was suitable for a variety of chromatographic modes (normal phase mode, reversed-phase mode, polar organic mode). The resolutions of hexaconazole (Hex), tebuconazole (Teb), and triticonazole (Trit) enantiomers could be up to 2.31, 1.68, and 1.48, respectively, within 30 min under reversed-phase chromatography. Based on the optimal chromatographic and mass spectrum conditions, a new LC-MS/MS quantitative method for the Hex, Teb, and Trit enantiomers was established by multi-reaction positive ion monitoring (MRM). The detection limits (LODs) of enantiomers were less than 0.89 µg/kg for Hex, 0.93 µg/kg for Teb, and 0.93 µg/kg for Trit, and the averaged recoveries of enantiomers were in the range of 75.8–106.3% for Hex, 77.4–116.3% for Teb, and 78.7–113.4% for Trit. The method had good reproducibility with the RSDs (<5%) for intraday and (<7%) for interday.
Conclusions
The established method had the characteristics of good selectivity, high sensitivity, strong resistance to matrix interference, and good reproducibility. It is indicated that the stationary phase prepared by the “thiol-ene” addition reaction is a new type of multi-mode stationary phase, which has a good development value.
Highlights
The study reported a new method for the rapid preparation of a rare “multi-mode” chiral stationary phase BzCSP based on the “thiol-ene” addition reaction and verified the practicability of BzCSP including good selectivity, high sensitivity, strong resistance to matrix interference, and good reproducibility.

Abstract
A large π-conjugated perylenediimide bridged bis(β-cyclodextrin)-bonded stationary phase (PBCDP) was first prepared and characterized. The chiral HPLC performance was systematically evaluated using a series of chiral probes. The results showed that PBCDP could resolve 36 kinds of chiral compounds in reversed-phase and polar organic modes with high resolutions (Rs) 1.48-3.28 for profens, 1.25-2.85 for triazoles, 1.34-5.29 for flavanones, 1.66-4.58 for amino acids and 1.22-1.97 for β-blockers. Especially, PBCDP could completely resolve acidic non-steroidal chiral drugs (profens) and simultaneously resolve basic five triazole pesticides, which were difficult to separate by ordinary CDCSP. Compared with CDCSP (15 kinds), the new stationary phase has a wider resolution range (36 kinds). Obviously, the synergistic inclusion of the two cavities of bridged cyclodextrin, as well as the large π-π stacking, hydrogen bond, dipole-dipole and basic primary amine site (-NH-) provided by the perylenediimide bridging group contributed together to the improvement of the above chiral separations. PBCDP was a new type of versatile chiral separation material without port derivatization.

Abstract
Herein, we report the first use of Polymyxin-B antibiotic as a enantio-selector in polymer monolithic capillary. The capillaries were functionalised, characterized and tested for the enantioselective nano-HPLC separation of 50 racemic pharmaceutical drugs. They have been easily prepared by immobilizing Polymyxin-B over the organic polymer for 48 h (P1) or encapsulating Polymyxin-B within the organic polymer (P2) and tested for the enantioselective resolution of racemic drugs. Acceptable resolution was achieved for 21 drugs using RP-HPLC conditions on both (P1) and (P2) capillary columns, while no separation was observed under NP-HPLC conditions. Polymyxin-B is commercially available, easily solubilized and stable in both acidic and neutral media. The developed Polymyxin-B-based polymer monolithic capillaries provide a promising expansion of platform in enantioselective HPLC separations.

Abstract
Daptomycin, a macrocyclic antibiotic, is here used as a new chiral selector in preparation of chiral stationary phase (CSP) in a recently prepared polymer monolithic capillary. The latter is prepared using the copolymerization of the monomers glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) in the presence of daptomycin in water. Under reversed phase conditions (RP), the prepared capillaries were tested for the enantioselective nanoliquid chromatographic separation of fifty of the racemic drugs of different pharmacological groups, such as adrenergic blockers, H1-blockers, NSAIDs, antifungal drugs, and others. Baseline separation was attained for many drugs under RP-HPLC. Daptomycin expands the horizon of chiral selectors in HPLC.

Abstract
A novel β-cyclodextrin derivative chemically bonded chiral stationary phase (EDACD) was synthesized by the reaction of mono-6-ethylenediamine-β-cyclodextrin with the active alkyl isocyanate, anchoring to silica gel. After the successful analysis and characterization using scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectra, solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis techniques, the enantioselective performance of the as-prepared EDACD column was evaluated by non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs and flavonoids under the reversed-phase HPLC condition. The factors that affected enantioseparation including mobile phase compositions and buffers were investigated in more detail. As a result, EDACD showed a satisfactory enantioselectivity for the tested drugs. With the mobile phase of acetonitrile and 20-mM ammonium formate adjusted to pH 4.0 using formic acid (85:15, v/v) at the flow rate of 0.6 mL min-1, the enantiomers of ibuprofen, carprofen, naproxen, indoprofen, ketoprofen, eriocitrin, naringin, and narirutin were separated with the best resolutions of 1.53, 1.64, 3.72, 2.40, 0.50, 0.61, 0.58, and 0.52. To adjust the proportion of acetonitrile to 80% (by volume), the enantiomers of pranoprofen and flurbiprofen were completely resolved with the best resolutions of 1.60 and 1.59. Additionally, by the study of the molecular docking, hydrogen bonding and inclusion complexation were believed to play an important role in chiral recognition. As a new material, EDACD will have a wider application in the analysis of chiral compounds.

Abstract
A new functionalized polymer monolithic capillary with a macrocyclic antibiotic, namely colistin sulfate, as chiral selector was prepared via the copolymerization of binary monomer mixtures consisting of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) in porogenic solvents namely 1-propanol and 1,4-butanediol, in the presence of azobisiso-butyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator and colistin sulfate. The prepared capillaries were investigated for the enantioselective nano-LC separation of a group of racemic pharmaceuticals, namely, α- and β-blockers, anti-inflammatory drugs, antifungal drugs, norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitors, catecholamines, sedative hypnotics, antihistaminics, anticancer drugs, and antiarrhythmic drugs. Acceptable separation was achieved for many drugs using reversed phase chromatographic conditions with no separation achieved under normal phase conditions. Colistin sulfate appears to be useful addition to the available macrocyclic antibiotic chiral phases used in liquid chromatography.

Abstract
Here we report the first encapsulation of three carbamylated amylose namely R-, S- and R/S-amylose 2,3(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate)-6-ethylphenylcarbamate in organic polymer monolith in situ capillary columns. The columns were investigated for the enantioselective nano-liquid chromatographic separation of a set of racemic pharmaceuticals, namely, α- and β-blockers, anti-inflammatory drugs, antifungal drugs, norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitors, catecholamines, sedative hypnotics, antihistaminics, anticancer drugs, and antiarrhythmic drugs. Baseline separation was achieved for several drugs under reversed phase chromatographic conditions and only few drugs were separated under normal phase conditions. The developed columns provide more economical analysis under environmentally benign conditions.

Abstract
Cationic β-cyclodextrin (CD) perphenylcarbamoylated derivatives were chemically bonded onto vinylized silica using a radical co-polymerization reaction. The derived materials were used as chiral stationary phases (CSP) in supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC). Enantioseparations were successfully demonstrated on 14 racemates encompassing flavanones, thiazides and amino acid derivatives. The electrostatic force between the analytes and the cationic moiety on β-CD derivative was found to be important for retention and enantioseparation of the racemates. Aromatic cationic moiety on β-CD enabled better enantioseparations than aliphatic cationic moiety. It was also found that the presence of acid additives would result in lower retention of the analytes but often assist the chiral resolutions.

Abstract
In this paper a phenyl-carbamate-propyl-beta-cyclodextrin stationary phase was employed for the enantioseparation of several flavonoids, including flavanones and methoxyflavanones by using nano-liquid chromatography (nano-LC). The same stationary phase was also used for the diastereoisomeric separation of two flavanone glycosides. The compounds: flavanone, 2'-hydroxyflavanone, 4'-hydroxyflavanone, 6-hydroxyflavanone, 7-hydroxyflavanone, 4'-methoxyflavanone, 6-methoxyflavanone, 7-methoxyflavanone, hesperetin, hesperidin, naringenin and naringin were studied using reversed, polar organic and normal elution modes. The effect of the nature and composition of the mobile phase (organic modifier type, buffer and water content in the reversed phase mode) on the enantioresolution (R(s)), retention factor (k) and enantioselectivity (alpha) were investigated. Baseline resolution of all studied flavonoids, with the exception of 2'-hydroxyflavanone and naringin, was achieved in reversed phase mode using a mixture of MeOH/H(2)O at different ratios as mobile phase. Good results, in terms of peak efficiency and short analysis time, were obtained adding 1% triethylammonium acetate pH 4.5 buffer to MeOH/H(2)O mixture. The separation of the studied compounds was also performed in polar organic mode. By using 100% of MeOH as mobile phase, the resolution was achieved for the studied analytes, except for 7-hydroxyflavanone, 2'-hydroxyflavanone, naringenin, hesperidin and naringin. Normal mode was tested employing a mixture of EtOH/hexane/TFA as mobile phase achieving the enantiomeric and diastereomeric separation of only hesperetin and hesperidin, respectively. The use of nano-LC technique for the resolution of flavanones optical isomers allowed to achieve good resolutions in shorter analysis time compared to the results reported in literature with conventional HPLC.

Abstract
In order to study the effect of the nature and the length of the spacer, three mixed 10-undecenoate/phenylcarbamate derivatives of beta-cyclodextrin have been prepared and linked to allylsilica gel by means of a radical reaction. The chiral recognition ability of the resulting materials, when used as liquid chromatography chiral stationary phases (CSPs), was evaluated using heptane and either 2-propanol or chloroform as organic mobile-phase modifiers. A large variety of racemic compounds have been separated successfully on these CSPs (mainly pharmaceuticals and herbicides). Optimization of these separations was discussed in terms of mobile-phase composition and structural patterns of the injected analytes. The efficiencies of the three prepared materials were compared to those of previously described perphenylated-beta-cyclodextrin column and to analogous cellulose derivative-based CSPs.
