Abstract
Dopamine (DA) and l-tyrosine (l-Tyr) are neurotransmitters involved in various neuropsychiatric disorders. Therefore, it is important to monitor their levels for diagnosis and treatment. In this study, we synthesized poly (methacrylic acid)/graphene oxide aerogels (p(MAA)/GOA) by in situ polymerization and freeze-drying using graphene oxide and methacrylic acid as substrates. Then, the p(MAA)/GOA were applied as solid-phase extraction adsorbents to extract DA and l-Tyr from urine samples, followed by quantification using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The p(MAA)/GOA showed better adsorption performance for DA and l-Tyr than commercial adsorbents, likely as a result of the strong adsorption of the target analytes via π-π and hydrogen bonding interactions. Further, the developed method had good linearity (r > 0.9990) at concentrations of DA and l-Tyr of 0.075-2.0 and 0.75-20.0 μg mL-1, respectively, as well as a limit of detection of 0.018-0.048 μg mL-1, limit of quantitation of 0.059-0.161 μg mL-1, spiked recovery of 91.1-104.0%, and interday precision of 3.58-7.30%.The method was successfully applied to determine DA and l-Tyr in the urine samples of patients suffering from depression, demonstrating its potential for clinical applications.

Recent applications and chiral separation developments based on stationary phases in open tubular capillary electrochromatography (2019–2022). J Pharm Anal 2023; 13:323-339. Abstract
Capillary electrochromatography (CEC) plays a significant role in chiral separation via the double separation principle, partition coefficient difference between the two phases, and electroosmotic flow-driven separation. Given the distinct properties of the inner wall stationary phase (SP), the separation ability of each SP differs from one another. Particularly, it provides large room for promising applications of open tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC). We divided the OT-CEC SPs developed over the past four years into six types: ionic liquids, nanoparticle materials, microporous materials, biomaterials, non-nanopolymers, and others, to mainly introduce their characteristics in chiral drug separation. There also added a few classic SPs that occurred within ten years as supplements to enrich the features of each SP. Additionally, we discuss their applications in metabolomics, food, cosmetics, environment, and biology as analytes in addition to chiral drugs. OT-CEC plays an increasingly significant role in chiral separation and may promote the development of capillary electrophoresis (CE) combined with other instruments in recent years, such as CE with mass spectrometry (CE/MS) and CE with ultraviolet light detector (CE/UV).

Abstract
Herein, we report the electropolymerization of crystal violet (CRV) on a bare glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the detection of adrenaline (AD). Electropolymerization parameters such as electrolyte pH, scan rate and monomer concentrations were optimized using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The characterization of CRV and poly(crystal violet) (PCV) was done using FT-IR, UV-visible spectroscopy and EIS. More importantly, the charge transfer resistance (Rct) and other EIS data recorded from the EIS of various forms of the poly(crystal violet) (PCV) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in AD were used for identifying the best PCV modified electrode. Subsequent application of the electrode prepared at optimum conditions (PGCE) for AD detection using the square wave voltammetry (SWV) gave a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.86 μM over a linear range of 10.3-102.7 μM. This sensor also showed considerable stability, good AD recovery from the real sample (98.9%), and excellent reproducibility, making it a suitable analytical tool for AD detection at the micromolar level.

Abstract
A graphene oxide-molybdenum disulfide (GO-MoS2) composite was synthesized and utilized as the highly efficient stationary phase of open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC). The characterization results indicated that GO-MoS2 composite was successfully synthesized. The GO-MoS2-coated capillary column was prepared by covalent immobilization method for the determination of seven sulfonamides. The baseline separation of seven sulfonamides was achieved by GO-MoS2-coated capillary column. The linear range was 0.05-100 μg/mL for sulfisomidine, sulfathiazole, sulfamerazine, phthalylsulfathiazole and sulfacetamide, 0.1-100 μg/mL for sulfamonomethoxine and sulfachloropyridazine with a satisfactory correlation coefficients (R2) > 0.9994. This developed OT-CEC method was successfully applied to determinate of seven sulfonamides in environmental water and milk samples with good recoveries of 85.77% - 109.10% and 80.03% - 109.97%, respectively. These results indicated that GO-MoS2-coated capillary column possessed good stability and repeatability.

Abstract
This review critically discusses the developments on open-tubular liquid chromatography (OT-LC) and open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) during 2014-2018. An appropriate Scopus search revealed 5 reviews, 4 theoretical papers on open-tubular format chromatography, 29 OT-LC articles, 68 OT-CEC articles and 4 OT-LC/OT-CEC articles, indicating a sustained interest in these areas. The open-tubular format typically uses a capillary column with inner walls that are coated with an ample layer or coating of solid stationary phase material. The ratio between the capillary internal diameter and coating thickness (CID/CT) is ideally ≤ 100 for appropriate chromatographic retention. We, therefore, approximated the CID/CT ratios and found that 22 OT-LC papers have CID/CT ratios ≤100. The other 7 OT-LC papers have CID/CT ratio >100 but have clearly demonstrated chromatographic retention. These 29 papers utilised reversed phase or ion exchange mechanisms using known or innovative solid stationary phase materials (e.g. metal organic frameworks), stationary pseudophases from ionic surfactants or porous supports. On the other hand, we found that 68 OT-CEC papers, 7 OT-LC papers and 4 OT-LC & OT-CEC papers have CID/CT ratios >100. Notably, 44 papers (42 OT-CEC and 2 OT-LC & OT-CEC) did not report the retention factor and/or effective electrophoretic mobility of analytes. Considering all covered papers, the most popular activity was on the development of new chromatographic materials as coatings. However, we encourage OT-CEC researchers to not only characterise changes in the electroosmotic flow but also verify the interaction of the analytes with the coating. In addition, the articles reported were largely driven by stationary phase or support development and not by practical applications.

Abstract
Abstract
The ability to detect catecholamines (CAs) and their metabolites is vital to understand the mechanism behind the neuronal diseases. Neurochemistry aims to provide an improved pharmacological, molecular and physiological understanding of complex brain chemistries by analytical techniques. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is one such analytical technique that enables the study of various chemical species ranging from amino acids and peptides to natural products and drugs. CE can easily adapt the changes in research focus and in recent years remains an applicable technique for investigating neuroscience and single cell neurobiology. The prepared phenylalanine-based hydrophobic monolithic column, Polymethacryloyl-L-phenylalanine [PMAPA], was used as a stationary phase in capillary electrochromatography to separate CAs that are similar in size and shape to each other including dopamine (DA) and norepinephrine (NE) via hydrophobic interactions. Separation carried out in a short period of 17 min was performed with the electrophoretic mobility of 5.54 × 10−6 m2 V−1 s−1 and 7.60 × 10−6 m2 V−1 s−1 for DA and NE, respectively, at pH 7.0, 65% acetonitrile ratio with 100 mbar applied pressure by the developed hydrophobic monolithic column without needing any extra process such as imprinting or spacer arms to immobilize ligands used in separation.

Abstract
In the field of analytical chemistry, sample preparation and chromatographic separation are two core procedures. The means by which to improve the sensitivity, selectivity and detection limit of a method have become a topic of great interest. Recently, porous organic frameworks, such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), have been widely used in this research area because of their special features, and different methods have been developed. This review summarizes the applications of MOFs and COFs in sample preparation and chromatographic stationary phases. The MOF- or COF-based solid-phase extraction (SPE), solid-phase microextraction (SPME), gas chromatography (GC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and capillary electrochromatography (CEC) methods are described. The excellent properties of MOFs and COFs have resulted in intense interest in exploring their performance and mechanisms for sample preparation and chromatographic separation.

Abstract
Open tubular CEC (OT-CEC) separates analyte mixtures by a combination of electrophoretic, electro-osmotic, and/or chromatographic effects. OT-CEC research is an active and growing field, with studies encompassing a wide range of investigations related to new strategies for chemical modification of the inner surface of the capillary, leading to the introduction of novel stationary phase coatings. This review has examined the literature on OT-CEC from 2013 to August 2015 and highlights the developments in the fabrication of highly selective stationary phases, based on materials that include cyclodextrin chiral selectors, graphene and graphene oxide, metal-organic frameworks, molecularly imprinted polymers, nanoparticles, nanolatex particles, nanocomposites, in situ generated polymers, block polymers, tentacle-type polymers, polyelectrolyte multilayers, polysaccharides, phospholipids, and proteins. This review, while considering the development of novel OT-CEC coating materials, specifically examines different immobilization or coating methodologies and approaches and also discusses the separation mechanisms that occur with these new materials. These OT-CEC coatings are intended mainly to separate low molecular weight molecules relevant to the pharmaceutical, agricultural, and food industries as well as for use in environmental monitoring.

Abstract
Recently, the nanostructured modified molecularly imprinting polymer has created a great attention in research field due to its excellent properties such as high surface to volume ratio, low cost, and easy preparation/handling. Among the nanostructured materials, the carbonaceous material such as 'graphene' has attracted the tremendous attention of researchers owing to their fascinating electrical, thermal and physical properties. In this review article, we have tried to explore as well as compile the role of graphene-based nanomaterials in the fabrication of imprinted polymers. In other words, herein the recent efforts made to introduce selectivity in graphene-based nanomaterials were tried collected together. The major concern of this review article is focused on the sensing devices fabricated via a combination of graphene, graphene@nanoparticles, graphene@carbon nanotubes and molecularly imprinted polymers. Additionally, the combination of graphene and quantum dots was also included to explore the fluorescence properties of zero-band-gap graphene.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized and applied for the extraction of chicoric acid from Chicory herb (Chicorium intybus L.). A computational study was developed to find a suitable template to functional monomer molar ratio for MIP preparations. The molar ratio was chosen based on the comparison of the binding energy of the complexes between the template and functional monomers. Based on the computational results, eight different polymers were prepared using chicoric acid as the template. The MIPs were synthesized in a non-covalent approach via thermal free-radical polymerization, using two different polymerization methods, bulk and suspension. Batch rebinding experiments were performed to evaluate the binding properties of the imprinted polymers. The best results were obtained with a MIP prepared using bulk polymerization with 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP) as the functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the crosslinker with a molar ratio of 1:4:20. The best MIP showed selective binding ability toward chicoric acid in the presence of the template's structural analogues, caffeic acid, caftaric acid and chlorogenic acid.

Abstract
This review focused on the developments in the field of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for CEC since 2009. New preparation techniques of MIP-based CEC, such as, portable microchip with macroporous monolithic imprinted microchannel, and low cross-linking MIPs based on liquid crystalline monomers, were discussed. Using selected cases rather than a comprehensive review of the entire field, our goal is to highlight the studies of the interest with an emphasis on recent work, and offers suggestions for future development in the field of imprinted materials for CEC separation.
