Abstract
A deep eutectic solvent (DES) with the ability to change from hydrophilic to hydrophobic was designed and synthesized and applied to the determination of organophosphorus (OPP) pesticides in honeysuckle dew samples. Choline chloride, phenol, and tetrahydrofuran (THF) were used as the hydrogen bond acceptor, hydrogen bond donor, and demulsifier, respectively. Eight OPP pesticides were extracted by DES coupled with ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UA) and then chromatographed by GC-MS. DES used as an extract solvent has the advantages of high extraction efficiency, low cost, and environmental protection. Furthermore, DES is compatible with GC-MS. The single factor experiment design and Box-Behnken design (BBD) were applied to the optimization of experimental factors, including the type and composition of extraction solvent, type of demulsifier solvent, the volume of DES and THF, pH of sample solution, and ultrasonic time. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the high degree of linearity from 0.1 to 20.0 ng mL-1 (R2 ≥ 0.9989), the limits of detection from 0.014 to 0.051 ng mL-1 (S/N = 3), and the recoveries of analytes from 81.4 to 104.4% with relative standard deviation below 8.6%. In addition, the adsorption mechanism of OPPs on DES was explored by adsorption kinetic studies. These results have demonstrated that the present method has offered an effective, accurate, and sensitive methodology for OPP pesticides in honeysuckle dew samples, and this method provides a reference for the detection of pesticide residues in traditional Chinese medicine.

Homogeneous liquid-liquid microextraction coupled with HPLC/DAD for determination of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir as COVID-19 combination therapy in human plasma. BMC Chem 2023; 17:166. [PMID: 38001530 PMCID: PMC10675862 DOI: 10.1186/s13065-023-01080-4] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/29/2023] [Accepted: 11/08/2023] [Indexed: 11/26/2023] Open
Abstract
The study reports the development of a high-performance liquid chromatography/diode array detection method to measure the levels of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir in human plasma. These two antiviral medications are used for the treatment of COVID-19 and are marketed as Paxlovid®. The method employed sugaring-out induced homogeneous liquid-liquid microextraction to improve sensitivity. Optimization of the method was performed using the one variable at a time approach by adjusting several factors such as type of sugar, extractant, amount of sugar, volume of extractant, and pH of the aqueous sample to achieve the highest efficiency. The developed method was validated according to the Food and Drug Administration guidelines and demonstrated good linearity, accuracy, and precision. The range of linearity was from 1000 to 20,000 ng/mL for nirmatrelvir and 200 to 20,000 ng/mL for ritonavir with correlation coefficient values of 0.998 and 0.996, respectively. Selectivity studies revealed that no others peaks appeared in the retention times of the studied drugs. The stability of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir were also investigated through short term and three cycles of freeze-thaw, and both drugs were found stable. This analytical method could be useful for monitoring drug concentrations in patients undergoing treatment with these medications for COVID-19. In this work, for the first time, SULLME was used for the sensitive determination of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir in biological fluids. The developed method was able to determine both drugs in therapeutic levels with no need to sophisticated techniques like LC-MS. In addition to that, SULLME is considered a simple and green sample preparation in comparison with conventional sample preparation methods.

A microwave-assisted extraction method combined with magnetic ionic liquid-based dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction for the extraction of chloramine-T from fish samples prior to its determination by high-performance liquid chromatography. Abstract
In the present work, a combination of microwave-assisted extraction with magnetic ionic liquid-based dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction was developed for the extraction of chloramine-T from fish samples. In this method, the sample was mixed with a hydrochloric acid solution and exposed to microwave irradiations. By doing so, chloramine-T was converted to p-toluenesulfonamide and extracted from the sample into an aqueous phase. Then, a mixture of acetonitrile (as a dispersive solvent) and magnetic ionic liquid (as an extraction solvent) was rapidly injected into the obtained solution. In the following, the magnetic solvent droplets including the extracted analytes were isolated from the aqueous solution in the presence of an external magnetic field and after diluting with acetonitrile injected into high-performance liquid chromatography equipped with a diode array detector. Under the optimum extraction conditions, high extraction recovery (78%), low limits of detection (7.2 ng/g) and quantification (23.9 ng/g), good repeatability (relative standard deviations ≤5.8 and 6.8% for intra- and inter-day precisions, respectively), and wide linear range (23.9-1000 ng/g) were obtained. Finally, various fish samples marketed in Tabriz city (East Azarbaijan, Iran) were analyzed with the suggested method.

Abstract
Synthetic antioxidants play a critical role in the storage and process of edible oil due to that they can retard lipid oxidation, maintain the quality of oils, and prolong the shelf life. However, a series of studies have proved the potential risks of synthetic antioxidants for human health when consumed in excess, and many countries have established the permitted amounts of synthetic antioxidants in oils. Thus, the accurate quantification of synthetic antioxidants in edible oils is necessary, and there have developed various analytical methods involved in chromatographical, electrochemical, and spectroscopic methods. Owing to the complex matrix and the incompatibility between the oil sample and the detection instrument, sample preparation is usually adopted prior to the instrument detection to improve the detection effectiveness. The current review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the recently developed sample preparation methods and analytical techniques applied to determine synthetic antioxidants in edible oils from 2010 to present, with emphasis on the sample preparation methods combined with separation-based analytical techniques such CE and LC with various detectors. The advantages and limitations of some typical analytical methods are discussed and some insights in the future perspectives are also provided in this review. This article is protected by copyright. Combination of microwave-assisted solvent extraction and effervescence-assisted deep eutectic solvent-based in-syringe dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction and its application in the extraction of triazine pesticides from apple samples. J Sep Sci 2022; 45:3735-3744. Abstract
In the current study, combination of microwave-assisted solvent extraction combined with effervescence-assisted deep eutectic solvent-based in-syringe dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction has been developed as a new sample pretreatment method. The offered method was used for the extraction of five triazine pesticides (atrazine, propazine, cyanazine, ametryn, and simazine) from apple samples before their determination by gas chromatography-flame ionization detection. For this purpose, briefly, the apple sample was contacted with a suitable acidified extraction solvent and the mixture was exposed to microwave irradiations. Then, the supernatant was taken and mixed with a few microliters of a low-density deep eutectic solvent. The supernatant phase containing the extracted analytes was injected into sodium bicarbonate solution filled into a syringe. Consequently, the effervescence reaction occurs and the analytes were extracted into the fine droplets of extractant dispersed throughout the solution. Afterward, an aliquot of this phase was analyzed by the chromatographic system. Satisfactory outcomes including high enrichment factors (228-261) and extraction recoveries (67-87%), good repeatability (relative standard deviations equal or less than 3.2 and 5.3% for intra- and inter day precisions), and low limits of detection (0.4-0.7 ng g-1 ) and quantification (1.4-2.3 ng g-1 ) were acquired under the best experimental situations.
