Abstract
Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) with dual photoredox/copper catalysis combines the advantages of photo-ATRP and photoredox-mediated ATRP, utilizing visible light and ensuring broad monomer scope and solvent compatibility while minimizing side reactions. Despite its popularity, challenges include high photocatalyst (PC) loadings (10 to 1000 ppm), requiring additional purification and increasing costs. In this study, we discover a PC that functions at the sub-ppm level for ATRP through mechanism-driven PC design. Through studying polymerization mechanisms, we find that the efficient polymerizations are driven by PCs whose ground state oxidation potential-responsible for PC regeneration-play a more important role than their excited state reducing power, responsible for initiation. This is verified by screening PCs with varying redox potentials and triplet excited state generation capabilities. Based on these findings, we identify a highly efficient PC, 4DCDP-IPN, featuring moderate excited state reducing power and a maximized ground state oxidation potential. Employing this PC at 50 ppb, we synthesize poly(methyl methacrylate) with high conversion, narrow molecular weight distribution, and high chain-end fidelity. This system exhibits oxygen tolerance and supports large-scale reactions under ambient conditions. Our findings, driven by the systematic PC design, offer meaningful insights for controlled radical polymerizations and metallaphotoredox-mediated syntheses beyond ATRP.

Abstract
We demonstrate a single-component hydrophilic photocrosslinkable copolymer system that incorporates all critical functionalities into one chain. This design allows for the creation of uniform functional organic coatings on a variety of substrates. The copolymers were composed of a poly(ethylene oxide)-containing monomer, a monomer that can release a primary amine upon UV light, and a monomer with reactive epoxide or cyclic dithiocarbonate with a primary amine. These copolymers are easily incorporated into the solution-casting process using polar solvents. Furthermore, the resulting coating can be readily stabilized through UV light-induced crosslinking, providing an advantage for controlling the surface properties of various substrates. The photocrosslinking capability further enables us to photolithographically define stable polymer domains in a desirable region. The resulting copolymer coatings were chemically versatile in immobilizing complex molecules by (i) post-crosslinking functionalization with the reactive groups on the surface and (ii) the formation of a composite coating by mixing varying amounts of a protein of interest, i.e., fish skin gelatin, which can form a uniform dual crosslinked network. The number of functionalization sites in a thin film could be controlled by tuning the composition of the copolymers. In photocrosslinking and subsequent functionalizations, we assessed the reactivity of the epoxide and cyclic dithiocarbonate with the generated primary amine. Moreover, the orthogonality of the possible reactions of the presented reactive functionalities in the crosslinked thin films with complex molecules is assessed. The resulting copolymer coatings were further utilized to define a hydrophobic surface or an active surface for the adhesion of biological objects.

Abstract
A new Cd(II)-imprinting polymer was synthesised based on glycidyl methacrylate (Fe3O4@GMA@IIP) and employed to develop a dispersive magnetic solid-phase extraction method for the preconcentration prior to the determination of Cd(II) from the environmental samples. A central composite design (CCD) based on response surface methodology was used for optimization of the process variables and the material shows the promising saturation adsorption capacity of 28.21 mg g-1 under the optimum pH of 4.9 within 15.2 min at saturation concentration 914 μg mL-1. The experimental data were well described by Sips isotherm model and Brouers-Sotolongo fractal kinetic model that indicated the surface heterogeneity and involvement of both chemisorption and physisorption process. Thermodynamic results documented the endothermic and spontaneous nature of adsorption. The sorbent manifest the economic feasibility maintaining its sorption efficiency after the regeneration by 1 M HNO3 and reusability up to 6 adsorption/desorption cycles. The developed method exhibited the preconcentration factor of 30 and a high degree of tolerance for matrix ions. Limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were calculated as 3.054 and 10.182 μg L-1 respectively. The developed method was validated by the standard reference material and spiking addition method in real samples, and obtained results showed good agreement in accordance with spiking values. The ease of magnetic separation, high selectivity, good adsorption capacity and faster kinetics made this material a promising candidate for Cd(II) determination in various food and aqueous samples.

Abstract
In this work, a unique hybrid system is proposed for one-dimensional gratings comprising of poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) brushes and CdS quantum dots (CQDs). Generally, the emission of QDs is too weak to be observed in a dry state. Plasmonic resonances of the grating structures can be used to enhance the light emission or absorption of CQDs. The interaction between PGMA plasmonic nanostructures and inorganic CQDs plays a crucial role in engineering the light harvest, notably for optoelectronic applications. Extinction measurements of the hybrid system consisting of a PGMA grating and CQDs are reported. We designed one-dimensional gratings with various resolutions to tune the absorptance peaks of grating. PGMA grating grafted from a 1.5 µm resolution of trench arrays of photoresist exhibited absorptance peak at 395 nm, close to the absorption peak of CQDs, resulting in the photoluminescence enhancement of CQDs on the grating due to high charge carriers' recombination rate. Generally, the emission of quantum dots occurs under irradiation at characteristic wavelengths. Immobilizing QDs on the grating facilitates the emission of QDs under irradiation of full-wavelength light. Furthermore, the PGMA gratings with CQDs were immersed in various solvents to change the geometries resulting the shift of absorptance peak of grating. The proposed method could be applied for sensing the nature of the surrounding media and vice versa, as well as for various media of solvents.

Abstract
Nondestructive flaw detection in polymeric materials is important but difficult to achieve. In this research, the application of magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) in nondestructive flaw detection is studied and realized, to the best of our knowledge, for the first time. Superparamagnetic and highly magnetic (up to 63 emu/g) magnetite core-shell nanoparticles are prepared by grafting bromo-end-group-functionalized poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (Br-PGMA) onto surface-modified Fe3O4 NPs. These Fe3O4-PGMA NPs are blended into bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE)-based epoxy to form homogeneously distributed magnetic epoxy nanocomposites (MENCs) after curing. The core Fe3O4 of the Fe3O4-PGMA NPs endows the MENCs with magnetic property, which is crucial for nondestructive flaw detection of the materials, while the shell PGMA promotes colloidal stability and prevents NP aggregation during curing. The eddy current testing (ET) technique is first applied to detect flaws in the MENCs. Through the brightness contrast of the ET image, surficial and subsurficial flaws in MENCs can be detected, even for MENCs with low content of Fe3O4-PGMA NPs (1 wt %). The incorporation of Fe3O4-PGMA NPs can be easily extended to other polymer and polymer-based composite systems and opens a new and very promising pathway toward MNP-based nondestructive flaw detection in polymeric materials.

Abstract
Methyl methacrylate (MMA) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) were copolymerized by photocatalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization under visible light irradiation. The polymerization was made faster by the epoxide group, which played the role of a reducing agent and thus favored the regeneration of the activator.

Abstract
Self-assembly of mixture systems containing poly(acrylic acid)-g-poly(γ-benzyl-L-glutamate) graft copolymers (PAA-g-PBLG) and PBLG homopolymers in aqueous solution was investigated by both experiments and computer simulations. It was found that the aggregate morphologies, such as rods, curved rods, and toroids, could be tuned by the homopolymer content. The toroidal micelles with uniform size were formed when the homopolymer content in the hybrid aggregates is higher. The effect of added water content on the toroid formation process was studied. Rods and curved rods were observed sequentially before formation of toroids. We also performed dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations to verify the structure transition and explore the formation mechanism of the toroidal aggregates. The DPD results are in good agreement with the experimental findings and provide additional information such as chain distribution in aggregates, which is difficult to be gained through experiments. On the basis of the experimental and simulation results, the formation mechanism of the toroidal micelles was suggested.
