A Poly(carbazole-alt-triazole) with Thiabendazole Side Groups as an "On-Off-On" Fluorescent Probe for Detection of Cu(II) Ion and Cysteine

A novel conjugated polymer PCZBTA-TBZ containing thiabendazole as recognition unit was synthesized via Suzuki coupling reaction, and its structural characterization, spectroscopic analysis and photophysical properties were investigated. In the metal ion response study, the addition of Cu²⁺ led to the occurrence of the photoinduced electron transfer (PET) mechanism, which significantly quenched the fluorescence of the polymer PCZBTA-TBZ with a quenching effect of 98%. Furthermore, I^- can significantly quench the fluorescence of the polymer, but other anions have no such effect. According to the density functional theory calculation, compared with other polycarbazoles or other alternative copolymers containing carbazole, with alternating carbazole and triazole enhances the electron mobility and reduces the energy band gap of the polymer. Due to the strong coordination ability between Cu²⁺ and Cys, the adding Cys competes the Cu²⁺ in the [PCZBTA-TBZ-Cu²⁺] complex, blocking the occurrence of PET, and the fluorescence intensity of PCZBTA-TBZ is restored. The addition of other amino acids caused almost no change. The polymer is expected to be used for dual fluorescence detection of specific metal ions and Cys.

Bis-triazolylchalcogenium-Functionalized Benzothiadiazole Derivatives as Light-up Sensors for DNA and BSA

A range of bis-triazolylchalcogenium-BTD 3 was synthesized by a copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition of azido arylchalcogenides 1 and 4,7-diethynylbenzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole 2. Eight new compounds were obtained in moderate to good yields using 1 mol % of copper(II) acetate monohydrate under mild reaction conditions. In addition, the synthesized bis-triazolylchalcogenium-BTD 3a-3h were investigated regarding their photophysical, electrochemical, and biomolecule binding properties in solution. In general, compounds presented strong absorption bands at the 250-450 nm region and cyan to green emission properties. The redox process attributed to the chalcogen atom was observed by electrochemical analysis (CV techniques). In addition, spectroscopic studies by UV-vis, steady-state emission fluorescence, and molecular docking calculations evidenced the ability of each derivative to establish interactions with calf-thymus DNA (CT-DNA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA). The behavior presented for this new class of compounds makes them a promising tool as optical sensors for biomolecules.

Benzochalcogendiazole-based conjugated molecules: investigating the effects of substituents and heteroatom juggling

A convenient and effective synthetic approach for benzochalcogendiazole-based small molecules has been achieved using polyaniline (PANI)-anchored palladium as a heterogeneous catalyst. The photophysical properties of the synthesized benzochalcogendiazole-based small molecules, having different terminal substituents, have been compared. Moreover, the structural aspects, including the packing patterns and non-bonding interactions of the conjugated molecules, have been investigated using the single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) technique.

A metal-enhanced fluorescence sensing platform based on new mercapto rhodamine derivatives for reversible Hg(2+) detection

A new metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) chemosensor HMS-Ag-R-2SH for Hg(2+) has been prepared via a simple and effective method. The fluorescent chemosensor was based on a mercapto rhodamine derivatives linked with Ag nanoparticles, and the Ag nanoparticles were supported on hexagonal mesoporous silica material (HMS). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), absorption spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy techniques were employed to characterize morphology, mesostructure and spectral features of the chemosensor. This chemosensor works in a nearly pure aqueous solution with a broad pH range. The output signals include color change and fluorescence. Moreover, HMS-Ag-R-2SH presents excellent anti-disturbance ability when exposed to a series of competitive cations such as Ag(+), K(+), Li(+), Na(+), Ba(2+), Ca(2+), Cd(2+), Co(2+), Cu(2+), Mg(2+), Mn(2+), Ni(2+), Pb(2+), Zn(2+), Al(3+), Cr(3+) and Fe(3+). The selectivity of this chemosensor was significantly improved due to the introduction of the sulphydryl. The chemosensor showed a lower detection limit of 2.1ppb for Hg(2+). Importantly, HMS-Ag-R-2SH could be regenerated with sodium sulfide solution for several cycles and maintain a high sensitivity.
