Abstract
In this work, interpretable deep learning was used to identify structure-property relationships governing the HOMO-LUMO gap and the relative stability of polybenzenoid hydrocarbons (PBHs) using a ring-based graph representation. This representation was combined with a subunit-based perception of PBHs, allowing chemical insights to be presented in terms of intuitive and simple structural motifs. The resulting insights agree with conventional organic chemistry knowledge and electronic structure-based analyses and also reveal new behaviors and identify influential structural motifs. In particular, we evaluated and compared the effects of linear, angular, and branching motifs on these two molecular properties and explored the role of dispersion in mitigating the torsional strain inherent in nonplanar PBHs. Hence, the observed regularities and the proposed analysis contribute to a deeper understanding of the behavior of PBHs and form the foundation for design strategies for new functional PBHs.

Abstract
This article reports H-bonding driven supramolecular polymerization of naphthalimide (A)-thiophene (D)-naphthalimide (A) (AD n A, n = 1-4) conjugated ambipolar π-systems and its remarkable impact on room temperature ferroelectricity. Electrochemical studies confirm the ambipolar nature of these AD n A molecules with the HOMO-LUMO gap varying between 2.05 and 2.29 eV. Electron density mapping from ESP calculations reveals intra-molecular charge separation as typically observed in ambipolar systems. In the aggregated state, AD1A and AD2A exhibit bathochromically shifted absorption bands while AD3A and AD4A show typical H-aggregation with a hypsochromic shift. Polarization vs. electric field (P-E) measurements reveal stable room temperature ferroelectricity for these supramolecular assemblies, most prominent for the AD2A system, with a Curie temperature (T c) ≈ 361 K and saturation polarization (P s) of ∼2 μC cm-2 at a rather low coercive field of ∼2 kV cm-1. Control molecules, lacking either the ambipolar chromophore or the amide functionality, do not show any ferroelectricity, vindicating the present molecular and supramolecular design. Computational studies enable structural optimization of the stacked oligomer(s) of AD2A molecules and reveal a significant increase in the macro-dipole moment (in the range of 10-12 Debye) going from the monomer to the oligomer(s), which provides the rationale for the origin of ferroelectricity in these supramolecular polymers.

Abstract
A series of electronic push-pull, pull-pull, and push fluorophores has been prepared from a benzoselenadiazole core so that their spectroscopic, electrochemical, spectro-electrochemical, and spectro-electrofluorescence properties could be examined. The emission wavelengths and fluorescence quantum yields (Φfl ) of the N,N-dimethyl fluorophores were contingent on the solvent polarity and they ranged from 615 to 850 nm in aprotic solvents. The positive solvatochromism and the quenched Φfl in polar solvents were consistent with an intramolecular charge-transfer state (ICT). Meanwhile, a locally excited state (LE) was assigned in nonpolar solvents from the blue-shifted emission and high Φfl . The N,N-dimethylamine fluorophores examined could be both electrochemically oxidized and reduced, whereas the symmetric dinitro pull-pull derivative could be only reversibly reduced. Courtesy of their electrochemical reversibility, the fluorophores could reversibly change color from yellow to blue with an applied potential in addition to switching off their emission. The absorption of the electrochemically generated intermediates of the N,N-dimethyl derivatives spanned 500 nm over the visible and the NIR regions. The colors could be switched for upwards of two hours with applied potential, illustrating their potential use as electroactive materials in electrochromic devices.

Abstract
Pre- and postintroduction of substituents with respect to the macrocyclization step leads to previously unknown N-substituted azacalixphyrins. The stepwise synthetic approach has been studied in detail to highlight the key role of the N-substituents of the precursors and/or intermediates in terms of reactivity. Based on a combined experimental and theoretical investigation, the relationship between the properties of the macrocycles and their degree of substitution is rationalized. Depending on the nature of the N-substituents, the formation of supramolecular ribbon-like structures could also be observed, as demonstrated by combined TEM, SEM, AFM, and FTIR experiments.

Abstract
We have demonstrated that pentafluoro phenoxy boron subphthalocyanine (F5BsubPc) can function as either an electron donor or an electron acceptor layer in a planar heterojunction organic photovolatic (PHJ OPV) cell. F5BsubPc was incorporated into devices with the configurations ITO/MoO3/F5BsubPc/C60/BCP/Al (F5BsubPc used as an electron-donor/hole-transport layer) and ITO/MoO3/Cl-BsubPc/F5BsubPc/BCP/Al (F5BsubPc used as an electron-acceptor/electron-transport layer). Each unoptimized device displayed open-circuit photopotentials (Voc) close to or in excess of 1 V and respectrable power conversion efficiencies. Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) was used to characterize the band-edge offset energies at the donor/acceptor junctions. HOMO and LUMO energy level offsets for the F5BsubPc/C60 heterojunction were determined to be ca. 0.6 eV and ca. 0.7 eV, respectively. Such offsets are clearly large enough to produce rectifying J/V responses, efficient exciton dissociation, and photocurrent production at the interface. For the Cl-BsubPc/F5BsubPc heterojunction, the estimated offset energies were found to be ca. 0.1 eV. However, reasonable photovoltaic activity was observed, with photocurrent production coming from both BsubPc species layers. Incident and absorbed photon power conversion efficiencies (IPCE and APCE) showed that photocurrent production qualitatively tracked the absorbance spectra of the donor/acceptor heterojunctions, with some additional photocurrent activity on the low energy side of the absorbance band. We suggest that photocurrent production at higher wavelengths may be a result of charge-transfer species at the donor/acceptor interface. Cascade photovoltaics were also fabricated to expand on the understanding of the role of F5BsubPc in such device architectures.
