An ESIPT-based fluorescent turn-on probe with isothiocyanate for detecting hydrogen sulfide in environmental and biological systems

A probe with an isothiocyanate group was synthesized and evaluated for its H₂S sensing ability. Upon addition of H₂S, the probe exhibited ratiometric properties during absorption with a red-shift. The probe exhibited fluorescent off-on responses towards H₂S via the ESIPT process, due to the conversion of isocyanate into amine. UV-vis, fluorescence, and ¹H NMR spectroscopic analyses were performed to investigate the sensing mechanism. The probe has a large Stokes shift, short response time, and low detection limit. It can be used to estimate H₂S levels within the range of 0-36 nM. The practical applicability of the probe was demonstrated using water samples and living cells.

A benzothiazole-based fluorescent and colorimetric probe for the detection of ClO- and its application to zebrafish and water sample

A benzothiazole-based fluorescent and colorimetric chemosensor BZD ((E)-2-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-5-((4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino)phenol) was applied for detecting ClO^-. BZD showed fluorescence quenching and color variation for ClO^- via oxidative reaction between ClO^- and the imine bond. It could effectively detect ClO^- over various competitive analytes. Detection limit for ClO^- was calculated to be 1.74 μM by fluorescent method and 16.44 μM by colorimetric one, respectively. Additionally, BZD could be utilized for sensing ClO^- in zebrafish, real water sample and paper strip. The photophysical characteristics and sensing mechanism of BZD to ClO^- were studied by fluorescent and UV-visible spectroscopy, NMR titration, and ESI-mass spectrometry.

Benzothiazoles from Condensation of o-Aminothiophenoles with Carboxylic Acids and Their Derivatives: A Review

Nowadays, organic chemists are interested in the field of heterocyclic chemistry due to its use in the synthesis of a great variety of biologically active compounds. Heterocyclic compounds are widely found in nature and are essential for life. Among these, some natural nitrogen containing heterocyclic compounds have been used as chemotherapeutic agents. Their attachment to sugar molecules either as thioglycosides or as nucleosides analogues plays an important role in vital biological processes as well as in synthetic organic chemistry. Molecules containing benzothiazole (BT) nuclei are of this interesting class of compounds because some of them have been found to have a wide variety of biological activities. In this sense, we selected this topic to review and to then summarize the procedures related to the condensation reactions of o-aminothiophenoles (ATPs) as well as their disulfides with carboxylic acids, esters, orthoesters, acyl chlorides, amides, and nitriles. The condensation reactions with carbon dioxide (CO₂) are included. Conventional methods with the use of acid and metal catalysts as well as recent green techniques, such as microwave irradiation, the use of ionic liquids, and ultrasound (US) chemistry, which have proven to have many advantages, were found in the review.

Synthesis and NMR spectral assignments of novel nitrogen and sulfur heterocyclic compounds

Synthesis and NMR spectral studies of multidentate N and S heterocycles, 1,3,5-tris(N-methylbenzimidazolyl)benzene, 1,3,5-tris(benzimidazolyl)benzene,1,3,5-tris(benzothiazolyl) benzene, 2,2'-bipyridine 3,3'-bis(benzothiazolyl)benzene and 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(benzothiazolyl) benzene have been carried out. 2D (1)H-(1)H PFG-COSY as well as (1)H-(13)C single and multiple bond correlated (2D GRASP-HSQC and GRASP-HMBC) experiments have been employed to characterize the compounds. 1D NOE experiments have been useful in understanding the structure of 1,3,5-tris(N-methylenzimidazolyl)benzene.
