Abstract
Objectives This study investigates the associations of retrospective reports of Recession hardships with 10-year changes in subjective and objective indicators of sleep, and whether these associations differ by race and gender. Methods 501 adults (14.57% Black; 54.49% female) from the Midlife in the United States (MIDUS) study reported on the subjective Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) across two waves (pre-Recession, collected 2004-2009; post-Recession, collected 2017-2022), as well as Recession hardships since 2008. A sub-sample of 201 adults (25.37% Black; 58.21% female) provided objective actigraphy-measured sleep data (total sleep time, sleep onset latency, sleep efficiency) across the two waves. Results Descriptive analyses revealed Black participants had higher average Recession hardships, poorer post-Recession PSQI scores, and poorer post-Recession actigraphy sleep quantity and quality compared to white participants. Females had higher average Recession hardships compared to males; and reported poorer post-Recession PSQI, but had better objective post-Recession sleep quantity and quality compared to males. Regression models showed Recession hardships (across overall events, and sub-domains of financial and housing hardships) were associated with poorer PSQI and actigraphy-measured sleep efficiency following the Recession, adjusting for sociodemographic covariates, corresponding pre-Recession sleep variables, and pre-Recession chronic conditions. There was no evidence for significant moderation by race on sleep outcomes. However, gender moderation indicated associations between housing hardships and poorer actigraphy-measured sleep efficiency were more apparent for females than for males. Conclusions Findings indicate that Recession hardships (particularly in financial and housing domains) may be manifested in poor sleep. Racial and gender groups may have differential exposure and sleep-related reactivity to Recession hardships.

Abstract
AIM We aimed to examine the mediating effects of the Sense of Coherence (SOC) on the relationship between stress and sleep in nurses during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. METHODS A cross-sectional survey targeting nurses in Chiba and Tokyo during the summer of 2021 was conducted using Google Forms. Responses were obtained using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the 13-item version of the SOC scale (SOC-13), and questions regarding COVID-19-related stress. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was performed to investigate relevant relationships. RESULTS A total of 181 valid responses were obtained from 400 surveyed nurses. SEM analysis showed that COVID-19 stress was indirectly related to PSQI via its effect on SOC-13, with higher SOC-13 negatively correlated with PSQI. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest the need for interventions designed to promote SOC for nurses working under stressful conditions.

Abstract
Background Substantial studies have revealed the potential mechanisms underlying the link between dietary behaviour and depression symptoms. This study investigated the relationship between depression symptoms and dietary behaviour, physical activity, and sleep quality in a nationwide sample of Chinese residents. Methods A total of 18 819 Chinese Residents completed the dietary behaviour, patient health questionnaire, international physical activity questionnaire, and Pittsburgh sleep quality index. We used the Hayes' serial mediation model to investigate the correlation between the variables. Results Among the participants, 85.5% were aged between 18 and 59, 41.2% were male, and 73.8% were urban residents. There is a negative correlation between dietary behaviour and physical activity (r = -0.038, P < 0.001), while there is a positive correlation with depression symptoms (r = 0.238, P < 0.001) and sleep quality (r = 0.115, P < 0.001). Additionally, depression shows a positive correlation with physical activity (r = 0.024, P < 0.001) and sleep quality (r = 0.298, P < 0.001), while there is a negative correlation between physical activity and sleep quality (r = -0.035, P < 0.001). Dietary behaviour was found to be connected with depression symptoms via three mediation pathways: (1) physical activity (B = -0.003, 95% confidence interval (CI) = -0.016, -0.007), (2) sleep quality (B = 0.034, 95% CI = 0.126, 0.164), and (3) physical activity and sleep quality (B = 0.001, 95% CI = 0.001, 0.003). Conclusions These findings highlight the significance of psychological and physical factors in exploring the mechanisms through which dietary behaviour is related to depression symptoms. Overall, this study showed the important role of lifestyle factors in depression symptoms, suggesting that appropriate dietary behaviours, appropriate physical activity, and good sleep quality are necessary for the avoidance or improvement of depression symptoms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the impact of epilepsy and antiseizure medications (ASMs) on sleep quality in people with epilepsy (PWE). METHODS An online survey was conducted in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK among PWE taking >1 ASM and matched controls. Sleep quality was evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Associations between sleep quality (global PSQI) and overall quality of life (QoL; assessed using the 12-Item Short Form Survey [SF-12]) and sleep quality and depressive symptoms (assessed using the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy [NDDI-E]) were also evaluated. RESULTS Overall, 500 PWE and 500 matched controls were included. PWE had significantly greater mean global PSQI scores than controls (9.32 vs 7.56; p < 0.0001), with 80% reporting a score >5 versus 66% of controls (p < 0.001). PWE experienced significantly more problems with most PSQI components than controls. Mean global PSQI scores in PWE receiving 2 versus ≥3 ASMs were 9.03 and 10.18, respectively (p < 0.004); global PSQI scores >5 were reported in 76% versus 90%, respectively (p = 0.001). Regimens containing lamotrigine or phenobarbital were associated with poorer sleep quality than those without these ASMs. In PWE, negative correlations were identified between global PSQI scores and both the SF-12 physical and mental components (Pearson's correlation coefficient [PCC], -0.61 and -0.40, respectively); NDDI-E and global PSQI scores were positively correlated (PCC, 0.6). CONCLUSIONS PWE experience significantly worse sleep quality than people without epilepsy, with some ASMs contributing to poorer sleep. QoL and physical and mental health were all affected by sleep quality in PWE.

Abstract
El índice de calidad de sueño de Pittsburgh (ICSP) es un instrumento ampliamente utilizado en poblaciones clínicas y no clínicas para la evaluación de la calidad de sueño. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la estructura factorial y consistencia interna del ICSP en deportistas universitarios del sur de Sonora México para la evaluación de las propiedades psicométricas del instrumento. Se realizó un estudio transversal no experimental con 98 deportistas universitarios, 39 mujeres (38,2%), en un rango de 17 a 25 años. Se evaluó la consistencia interna y homogeneidad del instrumento, así como los análisis factorial exploratorio (AFE) y confirmatorio (AFC). Los resultados de confiabilidad indicaron un α de Cronbach de 0,79 eliminando los componentes de uso de medicamentos para dormir y eficiencia habitual del sueño. El AFE identificó un modelo de dos factores y el AFC un modelo unidimensional. Se concluye que la calidad de sueño en esta muestra de deportistas se explica mejor mediante un modelo unidimensional de cinco componentes.

Abstract
AIM To examine effects of holistic sleep improvement strategies on frontline nurses who served in Wuhan, China, during a public health emergency (COVID-19). DESIGN A pre-post-test design with single group was conducted with a convenience sample applied the Transparent Reporting of Evaluations with Non-randomized Designs statement. METHODS Fifty-two nurses were recruited from a COVID-19 designated hospital, receiving holistic sleep improvement intervention, which concentrated on scientific human resource management, comfortable sleep environment establishment, self-relaxation and self-adjustment training and humanistic care. Data was collected at baseline and 4-week follow-up post intervention using self-reported questionnaires. RESULTS The total score of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scale was 8.69 ± 4.346 at baseline. After 4 weeks of follow-up, the score statistically significantly decreased to 7.48 ± 3.691. Subjective sleep quality (p = .016), sleep efficiency (p = .015), sleep disturbances (p = .007) were statistically significantly improved after the intervention, while there were no statistically significant differences in sleep latency (p = .205), sleep duration (p = .375), sleep medication (p = .723) or daytime dysfunction (p = .747).

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to describe the overall sleep quality, sleep patterns and severity of sleep difficulties among nursing faculty using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). DESIGN Cross-sectional descriptive and correlational study. METHODS A survey of faculty recruited from Texas Board of Nursing approved colleges/schools was used. A purposive, convenience sample of 105 faculty completed the PSQI, a reliable and valid instrument, in an online setting. Data was collected from January 2019 through April 2019. RESULTS Nursing faculty reported sleep difficulty across all components, with more problems in sleep latency, sleep disturbances and subjective sleep quality. Overall, 70.5% of participants were reportedly "poor" sleepers, a salient finding. Faculty experienced poor sleep quality across all academic ranks and age groups. Sleep latency and subjective sleep quality were components that presented higher in severity for the youngest faculty.
