Abstract
Novel, multipurpose terpolymers based on styrene (PS), tert-butyl methacrylate (tBMA) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), have been synthesized via Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP). Post-synthetic modification with 1-pyrenemethylamine (AMP) allows non-covalent functionalization of carbon nanotubes, eventually yielding a conductive nanocomposite materials capable of interacting with different Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) by electrical resistance variation upon exposure. Moreover, facile hydrolysis of the tBMA group yields polyelectrolytic macrosurfactants with remarkable thickening properties for promising applications in water solution, such as Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR).

Abstract
A new adsorbent was prepared via modified poly(glycidyl methacrylate) with 8-aminoquinoline (AQ-PGMA) for the recovery of Pd(II) from solution. The practical application values of AQ-PGMA, including efficiency, selectivity and reusability for the recovery of Pd(II), are proved by the various experiment parameters. The parameters include HCl concentration, adsorption time, initial Pd(II) concentration, coexisting ions and reused cycles. The prepared AQ-PGMA showed a high adsorbing capacity for Pd(II) (up to 267.90 mg/g) when the concentration of HCl is higher than 0.4 mol/L. The analysis of the adsorption process indicated that the adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the adsorption isotherms obeyed the Hill model. The Hill model showed that one adsorption site on the AQ-PGMA could combine 1.45 Pd(II). In addition, the obtained adsorbent demonstrated good regenerative ability and satisfying selectivity for the recovery of Pd(II). The adsorption mechanism was dominated by the chelation and ion exchange reactions between amines/hydroxyl groups and Pd(II). The experiments confirmed that AQ-PGMA was efficient for recovery of Pd(II) from highly acidic aqueous solutions.

Abstract
Methyl methacrylate (MMA) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) were copolymerized by photocatalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization under visible light irradiation. The polymerization was made faster by the epoxide group, which played the role of a reducing agent and thus favored the regeneration of the activator.

Abstract
This Perspective presents recent advances in macromolecular engineering enabled by ATRP. They include the fundamental mechanistic and synthetic features of ATRP with emphasis on various catalytic/initiation systems that use parts-per-million concentrations of Cu catalysts and can be run in environmentally friendly media, e.g., water. The roles of the major components of ATRP--monomers, initiators, catalysts, and various additives--are explained, and their reactivity and structure are correlated. The effects of media and external stimuli on polymerization rates and control are presented. Some examples of precisely controlled elements of macromolecular architecture, such as chain uniformity, composition, topology, and functionality, are discussed. Syntheses of polymers with complex architecture, various hybrids, and bioconjugates are illustrated. Examples of current and forthcoming applications of ATRP are covered. Future challenges and perspectives for macromolecular engineering by ATRP are discussed.

Abstract
The ferric TAML catalysts [Fe{C(6)H(2)-1,2-( NCOCMe(2)NCO)(2)CMe(2)}(OH(2))](-) (1) with counterions Na(+) (a) and PPh(4)(+) (b) function similar to horseradish peroxidase in the mediated electron transfer relays, which constitute a basis for amperometric biosensors. The mediators are mono- and bis-cyclometalated Ru and Os compounds of the type of [M(C∼N)(x)(N∼N)(3-x)](m+) with x = 1 and 2 (N∼N = 2,2'-bipyridine, (-)C∼N = 2-phenylpyridinato). Cyclic voltammograms of the Ru and Os compounds are not affected by 1a though cathodic currents increase drastically in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The reduction potentials of [M(C∼N)(x)(N∼N)(3-x)](m+) complexes vary with both the nature of metal (Ru or Os) and the number of cyclometalated ligands x (1 or 2) and therefore the potential of working electrode can be set in the range of from -0.1 to +0.6 V versus the normal hydrogen electrode (NHE). A prototype of a biosensor for H(2)O(2) is described, in which the 1b catalyst and [Os(C∼N)(2)(N∼N)](+) mediator were coimmobilized on the surface of the glassy carbon electrode using a polymeric coating.

Abstract
Reductively degradable hyperbranched polymethacrylates with multiple peripheral alkyl bromide groups were synthesized by the azobis(2-isobutyronitrile)-initiated copolymerization of diethylene glycol methyl ether methacrylate or oligo(ethylene oxide) methyl ether methacrylate with the disulfide-containing crosslinker bis(2-methacryloyloxyethyl)disulfide (2.5–10.0 mol-% relative to the monomer) in the presence of carbon tetrabromide (10–40-fold excess relative to the radical initiator) as efficient chain transfer agent. The alkyl bromide groups initiated the atom-transfer radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate, and star copolymers with hyperbranched disulfide-containing cores were formed. Both the macroinitiators and the star copolymers derived from them were degraded in reducing environment.
