Abstract
Ceramic electrolytes hold application prospects in all-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLB). However, the ionic conductivity of ceramic electrolytes is limited by their large thickness and intrinsic resistance. To cope with this challenge, a two-dimensional (2D) vermiculite film has been successfully prepared by self-assembling expanded vermiculite nanosheets. The raw vermiculite mineral is first exfoliated to thin sheets of several atomic layers with about 1.2 nm interlayer channels by a thermal expansion and ionic exchanging treatment. Then, through vacuum filtration, the ion-exchanged expanded vermiculite (IEVMT) sheets can be assembled into thin films with a controllable thickness. Benefiting from the thin thickness and naturally lamellar framework, the as-prepared IEVMT thin film exhibits excellent ionic conductivity of 0.310 S·cm-1 at 600 °C with low excitation energy. In addition, the IEVMT thin film demonstrates good mechanical and thermal stability with a low coefficient of friction of 0.51 and a low thermal conductivity of 3.9 × 10-3 W·m-1·K-1. This reveals that reducing the thickness and utilizing the framework is effective in increasing the ionic conductivity and provides a promising stable and low-cost candidate for high-performance solid electrolytes.

Abstract
Oregano essential oil (OEO) is a natural compound consisting of potent antibiotic molecules. Its volatility is the major obstacle against the transportation and anti-bacterial performance. In this work, submicron-sized vermiculite (SMV) particles were prepared from Australian vermiculite clay by ball milling, and tested as a potential particulate-carrier for OEO. The loading of OEO by SMV can be easily achieved by mechanical mixing. Compared to raw vermiculite and free OEO, the OEO-loaded SMV displayed sustained isothermal release behaviour of OEO and demonstrated enhanced antibacterial performance in in vitro antibacterial tests against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis). This study provides a facile and commercially viable approach in designing advantageous carriers for volatile actives in antimicrobial applications.

Abstract
Hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) is a biocompatible, biodegradable, nontoxic, hydrophilic, non- ionic water soluble derivative of cellulose. It is broadly used in biomedical field, paint industry, as a soil amendment in agriculture, coal dewatering, cosmetics, absorbent pads, wastewater treatment and gel electrolyte membranes. Industrial uses of HEC can be extended by the its grafting with different polymers including poly acrylic acid, polyacrylamide, polylactic acid, polyethyleneglycol, polydimethyleamide, polycaprolactone, polylactic acid and dimethylamino ethylmethacrylate. This permits the formation of new biomaterials with improved properties and versatile applications. In this article, a comprehensive overview of graft copolymers of HEC with other polymers/compounds and their applications in drug delivery, stimuli sensitive hydrogels, super absorbents, personal hygiene products and coal dewatering is presented.

Abstract
Abstract
Blends of rubber-rubber have desired properties intermediated between two rubber matrices. On the other hand, polymer-clay nanocomposites have attracted the attention of many researchers and experimental results are presented in a large number of recent papers and patents because of the outstanding mechanical properties and low gas permeability that are achieved in many cases. Polymer-clay nanocomposites are a new class of mineral-field polymer that contain relatively small amounts (<10%) of nanometer-sized clay particles. In this study, new nanocomposite materials were produced from the blend of polybutadiene rubber (BR) and ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM), BR/EPDM (50/50) as matrix and organically modified vermiculite clay (VMT) by quaternary alkylammonium in different contents (3, 6, 9 and 12 phr) as the filler by using rubber mill then, the rubber nanocomposite sheets were irradiated at doses of 25, 50, 75, 100 and 150 kGy using γ-radiation technique as a crosslinking tool. The prepared composites can be characterized by using various analytical techniques including X-ray diffractometer (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) as well as mechanical properties measurements.

Abstract
Activated sericite was prepared by thermal modification, acid activation and sodium modification, and it was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), N₂ adsorption test, thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results indicated that the crystallinity of raw sericite decreased after thermal modification; the pores with sizes between 5 nm to 10 nm of thermal-modified sericite have collapsed and the surface area increased after thermal modification. The dissolving-out amount of Al3+ reached ca. 31 mg/g in the optimal processing conditions during acid activation; cation exchange capacity (CEC) of acid-treated sericite increased to 56.37 mmol/100 g meq/g after sodium modification compared with that of raw sericite (7.42 mmol/100 g). The activated sericite is a promising matrix for clay-polymer nanocomposites.

Abstract
Natural vermiculite was modified by cation exchange with long-chain quaternary alkylammonium salts and then dispersed in polyether-based polyols with different structures and ethylene oxide/propylene oxide ratios. The dispersions were evaluated by X-ray scattering and rheology. In all polyol dispersions tested, polyols were intercalated into the vermiculite interlayers. Also, significant shear thinning behavior was observed. A large interlayer spacing of ∼90 Å was achieved in one polyol suitable for polyurethane elastomer synthesis. In polyurethane made with this polyol, clay platelets were extensively intercalated or exfoliated. The composites showed a >270% increase in tensile modulus, >60% increase in tensile strength, and a 30% reduction in N(2) permeability with a loading of 5.3 wt % clay in polyurethane. Differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis revealed that the nanoclay interacts with the polyurethane hard segments.
