Abstract
PURPOSE In contrast to the extensive literature on fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) experienced by adults, literature evaluating pediatric FCR has just begun to emerge. Given the rapidly expanding body of work assessing FCR in childhood and adolescence, a scoping review was conducted to synthesize existing findings. We aimed to assess (1) the characteristics and methods of this literature, (2) how pediatric FCR has been measured, and (3) the extant knowledge of FCR experienced by pediatric survivors of cancer. METHODS Inclusion criteria were: (1) original reports, (2) participants diagnosed with cancer before age 18, (3) current mean age under 18, (4) FCR was explicitly measured (quantitatively) or captured (qualitatively) via survivor self-report, and (6) published in English. Exclusion criteria were: (1) case studies, and (2) grey literature. Three databases (Embase, MEDLINE, PsycINFO) and reference lists from included studies were searched. All studies were screened for inclusion by two authors and all data were extracted by a single author. RESULTS Of 3906 identified studies, 19 were included. Studies (published 1991 - 2023) encompassed diverse geographical locations, study designs, and measurement methods. Few assessed FCR as a primary aim (n = 6, 32%). FCR was experienced by 43 - 90% of pediatric survivors. FCR was often positively associated with somatic symptoms and negatively associated with quality of life and emotional functioning. CONCLUSION FCR is a prevalent issue for children and adolescents. Additional evidence is needed to explore and confirm preliminary findings. Future pediatric FCR studies should aim to align with published priority research areas.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The objective of this study is to investigate the relationships between fear of cancer recurrence (FCR), social support and resilience, and further determine whether resilience mediates social support and FCR among Chinese patients with gastric cancer undergoing chemotherapy. DESIGN Multicentre cross-sectional survey. SETTING Four hospitals in Jiangsu Province, China, with grade-A tertiary hospital settings. PARTICIPANTS 755 patients with gastric cancer on chemotherapy across four hospitals in China were included from March 2021 to September 2022. OUTCOME MEASURES The Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form (FoP-Q-SF), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) were used to test the model's constructs. Statistical analyses were conducted by using IBM SPSS V.26.0 software. PROCESS V.3.4 macro was used to analyse the mediating role of resilience in the relationship between social support and FCR. RESULTS The mean scores for SSRS, CD-RISC and FoP-Q-SF in patients with gastric cancer receiving chemotherapy were 41.55±7.79, 54.83±18.46 and 30.91±10.11, respectively. 43.3% (n=327) had psychological dysfunction, 56.8% (n=429) had low to medium resilience and 99.1% (n=748) had medium to robust social support. Significant differences exist among three variables, resilience positively correlated with social support, while FCR negatively correlated with resilience and social support (p<0.001). Resilience fully mediated the relationship between social support and FCR (a*b-path=-0.126, 95% CI -0.169 to -0.086). CONCLUSIONS Mediation analysis shows resilience mediates social support and FCR in patients with gastric cancer as the negative effect of social support on FCR was fully mediated by resilience. Interventions targeting these variables may reduce FCR in patients with gastric cancer undergoing chemotherapy.

Abstract
Background: Transitioning from active cancer treatment to survivorship represents a vulnerable yet underresearched phase for adolescents and their families. Knowledge of their support needs, the challenges they experience, and how they manage them are useful to inform tailored follow-up care. Thus, we aimed to explore their transition experiences. Method: We interviewed 15 adolescents (12-19 years) who had transitioned off of treatment 1 to 47 months prior at Oslo University Hospital's Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology and their biological parents (n = 16). The interviews were analyzed using inductive, reflexive thematic analysis inspired by Braun and Clarke. NVivo-12 was used for data management. Results: Four main themes were identified: (a) consequences of cancer beyond transition, (b) transition back to normalcy, (c) survivorship competence, and (d) changes in roles and relationships. The families described happiness and relief but also said that the lingering effects of cancer treatment had a profound impact on day-to-day living. The adolescents expressed closeness with and dependency on their parents, and they perceived family and friends as essential for social readjustment. Discussion: Although adolescent survivors and their parents described a wide variety of strategies for returning to "normalcy," their perspectives also illustrate ongoing psychosocial and educational support needs that changed over time. Our findings indicate a need for improved preparation for and support through the transition. Nurses are well positioned to provide continuous and structured transition support tailored to the needs of the individual survivors and their families.

Abstract
PURPOSE Approximately 50% of cancer survivors experience moderate-severe fear of cancer recurrence (FCR). Self-guided digital interventions have potential to address the high level of FCR-related unmet needs at scale, but existing digital interventions have demonstrated variable engagement and efficacy. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of iConquerFear, a five-module self-guided digital FCR intervention. METHODS Eligible curatively treated breast cancer survivors were recruited. Participants reporting clinically significant FCR (≥ 13 on the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory-Short Form; FCRI-SF) were given access to iConquerFear. Feasibility was indicated by > 50% of eligible participants enrolling in iConquerFear and recording moderate (≥ 120 min) or greater usage. Preliminary efficacy was evaluated via changes in self-reported FCR severity, anxiety, depression, intrusions and metacognitions from baseline to immediately and 3 months post-intervention. RESULTS Fifty-four (83%) of 65 eligible participants enrolled in iConquerFear; six subsequently withdrew. Thirty-nine (83%) participants recorded moderate (n = 24; 120-599 min) or high (n = 15; ≥ 600 min) usage. Engagement levels increased with participant age (p = 0.043), but were lower in participants with higher baseline FCR (p = 0.028). Qualitative feedback indicated engagement was sometimes limited by difficulties with navigation and relating to featured survivors. Participants reported significantly improved FCR (mean reduction (95%CI): baseline to post-intervention - 3.44 (- 5.18, - 1.71), baseline to 3-month follow-up - 4.52 (- 6.25, - 2.78), p = < 0.001). CONCLUSION iConquerFear is a feasible and potentially efficacious intervention for reducing FCR in breast cancer survivors. Easier navigation and more relatable examples may enhance engagement. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS iConquerFear may help address moderate but burdensome FCR levels in cancer survivors.

Abstract
Pain is a common consequence of childhood cancer. While most research has examined biomedical predictors of post-cancer pain, biopsychosocial conceptualisations such as the cancer threat interpretation (CTI) model hold promise for guiding comprehensive pain management strategies. Guided by the CTI model, this cross-sectional study evaluated correlates of post-cancer pain in childhood cancer survivors including threat-related risk factors (bodily threat monitoring, fear of cancer recurrence, help-seeking) and mindsets about the body. In the preceding three months, 21.8% of the survivors reported chronic pain (>3 months), and 14.3% experienced pain most days. Greater bodily threat monitoring, more fear of cancer recurrence, and more help-seeking were associated with more pain. There was heterogeneity in the mindsets that survivors of childhood cancer hold about their bodies. Holding the mindset that the 'body is an adversary' was associated with more pain, greater bodily threat monitoring, and more fear of cancer recurrence. Holding the mindset that the 'body is responsive' was associated with less bodily threat monitoring, while the mindset that the 'body is capable' was associated with greater help-seeking. A path model demonstrated a significant combined indirect effect of the 'body is an adversary' mindset on pain through bodily threat monitoring and fear of cancer recurrence. Overall, this study supported that a sub-group of childhood cancer survivors experience persistent and interfering pain and provided cross-sectional support for threat-related correlates for pain aligning with the CTI model. Body mindsets were associated with pain and threat-related correlates and may represent a novel target to support survivors with pain. PERSPECTIVE: This article presents associations of body mindsets, threat-related risk factors, and pain in survivors of childhood cancer (aged 11-25), guided by the Cancer Threat Interpretation model. The study indicates that body mindsets may be novel targets to embed in comprehensive post-cancer pain management approaches to support young survivors with pain.

Abstract
Background: The presence of poorly controlled symptoms negatively impacts the quality of life (QoL) throughout cancer treatment. The purpose of this multisite study was to explore the relationship between QoL and symptom adverse events (AEs) in children with advanced cancer over 6 months. Method: A prospective and longitudinal descriptive study design was used to collect QoL and symptom AE data from children aged 2 to 18 with advanced cancer. QoL was measured using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQLTM) Cancer Module 3.0 and symptom AEs were measured using the Pediatric Patient-Reported Outcome-Common Terminology Criteria for AEs (PRO-CTCAEs®). Descriptive statistics were used to describe QoL and symptom AE data. Correlational analyses and generalized linear mixed models were used to examine the relationship between symptom AEs and QoL. Results: Forty-nine children participated in the study. The mean total PedsQLTM score was 73.86 for the sample across all time points. Children diagnosed with a central nervous system (CNS) tumor reported poorer QoL compared to children diagnosed with a hematologic malignancy or non-CNS solid tumor. Symptom frequency AEs of anxiety, pain, nausea, insomnia, hot flashes, and fatigue severity demonstrated the strongest and most significant negative correlation with total QoL scores. Analyses of the relationship between QoL and symptom AEs over time revealed time-specific significant differences with children who experienced frequency AEs of nausea, and anxiety reporting poorer QoL at time point 4 (week 8). Discussion: The Ped PRO-CTCAE® and PedsQLTM can be used to evaluate the relationship between symptom AEs and QoL in practice and in future research.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Bodily threat monitoring is a core clinical feature of Fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) and is targeted in psycho-oncology treatments, yet no comprehensive self-report measure exists. The aim of this study was the theory-informed development and initial validation of the Bodily Threat Monitoring Scale (BTMS). METHODS Adult survivors of breast and gynaecological cancers (Study 1: N = 306, age = 37-81 years) and childhood cancer survivors (Study 2: N = 126, age = 10-25 years) completed the BTMS, designed to assess how individuals monitor for and interpret uncertain symptoms as indicating that something is wrong with their body. Participants completed measures to assess construct and criterion validity of the BTMS, and childhood cancer survivors (Study 2) completed the BTMS again 2 weeks later to assess test-retest reliability. RESULTS The 19-item BTMS demonstrated excellent internal consistency across adult and childhood cancer samples (α = 0.90-0.96). Factor analyses indicated two subscales capturing 1. Monitoring of bodily sensations and 2. Threatening interpretations of bodily sensations. Two-week stability estimates were acceptable. For construct validity, the BTMS correlated with body vigilance and anxiety sensitivity. The BTMS also demonstrated criterion validity, yielding significant associations with FCR, intolerance of uncertainty, help-seeking behaviours, and quality of life. The BTMS was associated with FCR while controlling for body vigilance and anxiety sensitivity, indicating a unique contribution of this theory-informed measure. CONCLUSIONS The BTMS shows evidence of sound psychometric properties and could be used to elucidate the role of bodily threat monitoring in the maintenance and management of FCR.

Abstract
PURPOSE Pain post-treatment is a debilitating symptom in the growing population of cancer survivors. While physical activity is an integral part of pain management, low levels of physical activity are often observed in this population. The aim of this systematic review is to gain insight into the barriers and facilitators to physical activity in cancer survivors afflicted with pain. METHODS In December 2021, a systematic search was conducted using PubMed and Web of Science. All studies exploring barriers and/or facilitators to physical activity in cancer survivors with pain were included. The methodological quality of the evidence was appraised with the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (version 2018). RESULTS Six articles were included. Current literature was limited and mostly focused on female breast cancer survivors. The identified barriers and facilitators could be categorized into six different domains: the logistical, symptoms, cognitive, clinical, social, and knowledge domain. The barrier of pain was reported as a barrier on its own that is closely linked to other barriers in this specific population. CONCLUSION Barriers and facilitators to physical activity were categorized in six different domains. The barrier of pain distinguishes itself and brings along additional obstacles such as anxiety, fear, and avoidance behavior. Current evidence is limited and focuses mostly on female breast cancer survivors. Further research in larger cohorts representing various subsets of cancer survivors with pain is warranted, as well as studies that implement these insights in physical activity interventions.

Abstract
PURPOSE Fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) is frequent in survivors, but less is known about FCR in long-term survivors with very low risk of relapse. Our aim was to estimate the prevalence and clinical and socio-behavioural factors associated with FCR in young women 5 years after diagnosis of a good-prognosis cancer. METHODS Using data from the VICAN-5 survey, conducted in 2015-2016 amongst a national representative French sample of cancer survivors, we included women with non-metastatic melanoma, breast, or thyroid cancer, aged 55 years or under at diagnosis, who experienced no disease progression in the 5 years post-diagnosis. Multinomial logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with FCR, characterised using a three-level indicator: no, mild, and moderate/severe FCR. RESULTS Amongst the 1153 women included, mean age was 44 years at diagnosis, and 81.8% had breast cancer, 12.5% thyroid cancer, and 5.8% melanoma. Five years after diagnosis, 35.4% reported no FCR, 46.0% mild FCR, and 18.6% moderate/severe FCR. Women with thyroid cancer were less likely to suffer from mild or moderate/severe FCR, while cancer-related treatment sequelae, fatigue, and anxiety were more likely. Limited health literacy was associated with mild FCR. Women who reported only occasionally consulting a general practitioner (GP) for the management of their cancer had a higher probability of FCR. CONCLUSION Moderate/severe FCR affected nearly 20% of young female long-term survivors diagnosed with a good-prognosis cancer, particularly those reporting cancer-related sequelae, suffering from fatigue or anxiety, with breast cancer or melanoma (versus thyroid cancer), and consulting a GP only occasionally for cancer management. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Given the recognised impact of FCR on quality of life, it is essential to detect it as early as possible, and to implement targeted interventions in routine care.

Abstract
PURPOSE Cancer-related worry (CRW; concerns related to cancer and its late effects) is prevalent among childhood cancer survivors. Elevated CRW has been associated with self-reported suboptimal physical activity. The aim of this investigation was to describe associations between CRW and objectively assessed physical activity in childhood cancer survivors. METHODS CRW was assessed at a baseline evaluation using six survey items. Weekly minutes of moderate and vigorous physical activity were captured by actigraphy 5.25 (3.8-8.0) yr later. Factor analysis was used to identify types of worry; multiple regression determined independent associations between CRW and moderate and vigorous physical activity adjusting for sex, race, diagnosis, age at baseline, anxiety level at baseline, self-reported physical activity at baseline, and pain interference at baseline. RESULTS Participants ( n = 1223) were an average of 30.9 (SD, 6.9) yr at baseline and 36.1 (SD, 7.1) yr at follow-up. Thirty-seven percent were survivors of leukemia, 26% of non-CNS solid tumors, 19% of lymphoma, 11% of CNS tumors, and 6% of other malignancies. Two types of CRW were identified: "body-focused" and "general fear." Body-focused CRW ( β = -19.6, P = 0.012), endorsing pain interference ( β = -27.7, P = 0.002) at baseline, and having a diagnosis of CNS tumor ( β = -41.3, P = 0.0003) or non-CNS solid tumor ( β = -19.4, P = 0.02) were negatively associated with physical activity at follow-up. CONCLUSIONS CRW related to bodily function and appearance is associated with decreased physical activity. Clinicians should consider the potential negative impact of CRW on physical activity levels and provide behavioral counseling.

Abstract
PURPOSE Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common cancer diagnosed among individuals <14 years of age. The disease and its treatments are associated with negative side effects, including pain, which is both prevalent and distressing. Little is known about pain experiences in this population, which has slowed efforts to identify strategies to mitigate and cope with this adverse effect. This study sought to explore youth's and their caregiver's experiences with, and perspectives of, pain in the context of pediatric cancer treatment. METHODS Youth and one of their caregivers were recruited through (omitted for peer review). Following completion of a demographic survey, youth and one of their caregivers were interviewed separately using a semi-structured, one-on-one interview guide. Demographic information was analyzed with descriptive statistics, and interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS Youth (n = 19; Mage = 15.3 years) and caregiver (n = 19; Mage = 45.4 years) perspectives informed 4 themes: (1) my pain experience is nuanced, multidimensional, and is changing over time; (2) the cancer experience has changed the way I experience and respond to pain; (3) I used strategies to manage pain, and not all of them worked; and (4) my pain experience was influenced by people around me. CONCLUSIONS Findings extend prior work, suggesting that pain is common, distressing, multidimensional, and influenced by social context. Results highlight the number of ways in which youth and their caregivers attempt to manage their pain and factors influencing pain experiences. Greater efforts are needed to address pain during cancer treatment and survivorship.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Children diagnosed with cancer are at increased risk for the development of psychosocial problems. Currently, no qualitative and quantitative tests are available to measure their need for psychosocial follow-up care. The NPO-11 screening was developed to tackle this issue. PATIENTS AND METHODS 11 dichotomous items were generated to measure self- and parent-reported fear of progression, sadness, avolition, self-esteem problems, school and vocational problems, somatic complaints, emotional withdrawal, social disintegration, pseudo-maturity, parent-child conflicts, and parental conflicts. Data from N=101 parent-child dyads were obtained to validate the NPO-11. RESULTS Self- and parent-reported items showed few missing values and response frequencies without floor or ceiling effects. Inter-rater reliability was fair to moderate. Factor analysis confirmed a single-factor model and therefore an overall NPO-11 sum score. Self- and parent-reported sum scores had sufficient to good reliability and large correlations with health-related quality of life. CONCLUSION The NPO-11 is a screening for psychosocial needs in pediatric follow-up care with good psychometric properties. It may help to plan diagnostics and interventions for patients transitioning from in-patient to out-patient treatment.

International Survey of Pediatric Oncologists' Beliefs and Communication Practices Regarding Symptom Self-Monitoring by Childhood Cancer Survivors. JCO Oncol Pract 2023; 19:e650-e659. Abstract
PURPOSE Childhood cancer survivors report self-monitoring for and worrying about symptoms of disease recurrence and secondary cancers, although symptom-related worry is associated with poorer health-related quality of life. This survey captured pediatric oncologists' beliefs and communication practices regarding symptom self-monitoring for childhood cancer survivors. METHODS Using a closed-loop snowball sampling technique, pediatric oncologists completed an online survey regarding the importance of symptom self-monitoring for off-therapy patients, the degree to which symptom self-monitoring was perceived to cause stress and worry, and communication practices. RESULTS 196 pediatric oncologists (White [78%]; female [64%]; Mage = 47 years) from every continent except Antarctica participated. Oncologists believed it is important for off-therapy patients to self-monitor for symptoms of cancer recurrence (90%) and treatment late effects (94%), although some noted that recurrence (30%) and late effects (55%) are typically detected by routine surveillance before symptoms appear. Oncologists varied in their beliefs that off-therapy patients do (31%) or do not (31%) worry unnecessarily about symptoms of recurrence. Two thirds (62%) of oncologists reported often/always discussing with off-therapy patients which symptoms could indicate cancer recurrence, whereas fewer than half (43%) often/always discussed which symptoms were unlikely to indicate recurrence. Oncologists identified a need for education regarding how to communicate around symptom self-monitoring and the potential utility of a screening tool to identify those who worry excessively. CONCLUSION Despite nearly universal belief that their off-therapy patients should self-monitor for symptoms of disease recurrence and late effects, a substantial proportion of pediatric oncologists do not counsel patients on symptom self-monitoring. Since nearly one-third believe that off-therapy patients worry unnecessarily about symptoms of recurrence, improving patient education regarding which symptoms are and are not medically concerning could decrease stress and improve health-related quality of life for pediatric cancer survivors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Scan-related anxiety ("scanxiety") refers to the fear, stress, and anxiety in anticipation of tests and scans in follow-up cancer care. This study assessed the feasibility of Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) for real-world, real-time capture of scanxiety using patients' personal smartphone. METHODS Adolescent and Young Adult survivors of childhood cancer were prompted to complete EMA surveys on a smartphone app three times per day for 11 days (33 surveys total) around their routine surveillance scans. Participants provided structured feedback on the EMA protocol. RESULTS Thirty out of 46 contacted survivors (65%) enrolled, exceeding the preregistered feasibility cutoff of 55%. The survey completion rate (83%) greatly exceeded the preregistered feasibility cutoff of 65%. Participants generally found the smartphone app easy and enjoyable to use and reported low levels of distress from answering surveys. Participants reported significantly more daily fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) and negative affect in the days before compared to the days after surveillance scans, aligning with the expected trajectory of scanxiety. Participants who reported greater FCR and scanxiety using comprehensive measures at baseline also reported significantly more daily FCR around their surveillance scans, indicating validity of EMA items. Bodily threat monitoring was prospectively and concurrently associated with daily FCR, thus warranting further investigation as a risk factor for scanxiety. CONCLUSIONS Findings indicate the feasibility, acceptability, and validity of EMA as a research tool to capture the dynamics and potential risk factors for scanxiety.

Abstract
Pain in children living with and beyond cancer is understudied and undertreated. Pain science education (PSE) is a conceptual change strategy facilitating patients' understanding of the biopsychosocial aspects of pain. Preliminary studies on the adaptation of PSE interventions to adults with and beyond cancer provide a foundation for pediatric research. PSE could help childhood cancer survivors experiencing persistent pain and pain-related worry after active treatment. PSE may also help children receiving cancer treatment, providing them with a foundation of adaptive pain beliefs and cognitions, and preparing them for procedural and treatment-related pain. We direct this paper toward pediatric oncology clinicians, policy makers, and researchers working with children living with and beyond cancer. We aim to (a) identify challenges in adapting PSE for children living with and beyond cancer, (b) offer possible solutions, and (c) propose research questions to guide the implementation of PSE for children living with and beyond cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Theoretical models suggest that anxiety, pain intensity, and pain catastrophizing are implicated in a cycle that leads to heightened fear of cancer recurrence (FCR). However, these relationships have not been empirically examined. The objective of this study was to examine the relationships between anxiety symptoms, pain intensity, pain catastrophizing, and FCR in childhood cancer survivors and their parents and to examine whether pain catastrophizing predicts increased FCR beyond anxiety symptoms and pain intensity. METHODS The participants were 54 survivors of various childhood cancers (Mage=13.1 y, range=8.4 to 17.9 y, 50% female) and their parents (94% mothers). Children reported on their pain intensity in the past 7 days. Children and parents separately completed measures of anxiety symptoms, pain catastrophizing, and FCR. RESULTS Higher anxiety symptoms were associated with increased pain intensity, pain catastrophizing, and FCR in childhood cancer survivors. Higher anxiety symptoms and pain catastrophizing, but not child pain intensity, were associated with FCR in parents. Hierarchical linear regression models revealed that pain catastrophizing explained unique variance in both parent (ΔR2=0.11, P<0.01) and child (ΔR2=0.07, P<0.05) FCR over and above the effects of their own anxiety symptoms and child pain. DISCUSSION The results of this study provides novel data on the association between pain and FCR and suggests that a catastrophic style of thinking about pain is more closely related to heightened FCR than one's anxiety symptoms or the sensory pain experience in both childhood cancer survivors and their parents. Pain catastrophizing may be a novel intervention target for survivors and parents struggling with fears of recurrence.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Cancer and its treatment can have lasting consequences on somatosensation, including pain, which is often underrecognized and undertreated. Research characterizing the impact of cancer on pain and sensory processing in survivors of childhood cancer is scarce. This study aimed to quantify generalized differences in pain and sensory processing in survivors of childhood cancer compared with reference data using a standardized thermal and mechanical quantitative sensory testing (QST) protocol. The association between demographic, clinical (eg, leukemia vs other cancers and treatment exposures), and psychosocial (eg, anxiety and pain catastrophizing) variables and sensitivity to pain and sensory stimuli were also evaluated. Participants were 56 survivors of various types of childhood cancer (52% male, Mage = 13.5 years, SD = 3.2, range = 8-17 years). On average, children were 7 years (SD = 4.1, range = 1.2-16.5) post treatment. Almost all participants (86%) had at least 1 abnormal QST parameter compared with age- and sex-matched reference data; however, few participants self-reported the presence of sensory abnormalities. Generally, participants exhibited reduced sensitivity across the QST parameters examined (Ps < 0.05, ds = 0.40-3.45). A significant minority (45%) also exhibited pain sensitization (P <0.001, d = 0.42). Several risk factors for changes in sensory processing were identified, including current age, history of leukemia, certain treatment exposures (eg, vincristine cumulative dose, major surgery, and bone marrow or stem cell transplant), time off treatment, and higher anxiety and pain catastrophizing scores. Overall, this study demonstrated that somatosensory changes are prevalent in survivors of childhood cancer years after the completion of treatment. Future research is needed to understand long-term implications of altered somatosensation in this complex population.

Abstract
More than one-third of childhood cancer survivors are worried about pain as a sign of disease recurrence; pain-related worry explained unique variance in health-related quality of life. Introduction: Pain is common during childhood cancer treatment, can persist into survivorship, and can negatively affect health-related quality of life in survivors of childhood cancers (SCCs). Objective: The objective of this brief report was to assess pain frequency, pain-related worry, and their (unique) associations with health-related quality of life in SCCs. Methods: One hundred eleven SCCs (52% female individuals, M age: 17.67 years, range 8–25 years) completed self-report measures of pain frequency, pain-related worry, and health-related quality of life. Results: More than two-thirds (70%) of SCCs reported pain in the previous month (M = 1.39, SD = 1.17), and 15% reported experiencing pain often or almost always. More than one-third (39%) reported worrying about pain as a sign of cancer recurrence (M = 0.73, SD = 1.07), and 9% reported worrying about pain a lot or a whole lot. In multivariate regression models that controlled for sex, age at diagnosis, and time off treatment, both pain frequency and pain-related worry were significantly associated with physical health-related quality of life, indicating that they contribute unique variance to health-related quality of life after childhood cancer. For emotional health-related quality of life, pain frequency was no longer a significant predictor once pain-related worry was added to the model, indicating that pain-related worry may be particularly important for understanding emotional health-related quality of life. Conclusion: Postcancer pain may contribute to health-related quality of life through multiple mechanisms, including by triggering concerns of recurrence. There is a need for clinical interventions that target both the frequency of pain (eg, behavioral interventions) and pain-related worry (eg, psychoeducation and cognitive interventions) to improve health-related quality of life after childhood cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) is a common and distressing psychosocial concern for adult cancer survivors. Data on this construct in child survivors is limited and there are no validated measures for this population. This study aimed to adapt the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory-Short Form (FCRI-SF) for survivors of childhood cancer aged 8-18 years (FCRI-C) and their parents (FCRI-P) to self-report on their own FCR and to examine the initial psychometric properties. METHODS The FCRI-SF was adapted through expert panel input and cognitive interviews with child survivors <18 years. The factor structure, internal consistency and construct and criterion validity of the FCRI-C and FCRI-P were examined in 124 survivors of childhood cancer (43% female; Mage =14.58 years, SD=2.90) and 106 parents (90% mothers). RESULTS All FCRI-SF items were retained for the FCRI-C with simplified language. The internal consistencies of the FCRI-C (α= .88) and FCRI-P (α= .83) were good. Exploratory factor analyses yielded one-factor structures for both measures. Higher scores on the FCRI-C and FCRI-P were associated with greater intolerance of uncertainty and pain catastrophizing. Higher child FCR was also related to more hypervigilance to bodily symptoms. Parents with higher FCR reported contacting their child's doctors and nurses and scheduling medical appointments for their child more frequently. Children reported significantly lower FCR compared to parents. CONCLUSIONS The FCRI-C and FCRI-P demonstrated strong reliability and preliminary validity. This study offers preliminary data to support the use of the FCRI-C and FCRI-P to measure FCR in survivors of childhood cancer aged 8-18 years and their parents. Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To systematically review the existing literature reporting symptoms in childhood and adolescent and young adult cancer survivors and to meta-analyse the pooled prevalence of symptoms. BACKGROUND Cancer survivors experience various symptoms caused by cancer treatments and their late effects. These symptoms are associated with adverse health outcomes. However, estimates of symptom prevalence vary largely, and no comprehensive review of symptoms has been conducted for childhood and adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. DESIGN A systematic review. METHODS This systematic review is registered in PROSPERO registry and was performed following the PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Scopus and CINAHL were searched up to July 2021. Three investigators assessed the eligibility of studies, extracted data and performed quality assessment. The pooled prevalence of symptoms was calculated using a random-effect model. Subgroup analysis was conducted to identify heterogeneity. RESULTS Sixty-one studies were used to synthesise symptom prevalence, involving 114,184 participants. There were 24 physical symptoms and 10 psychological symptoms reported in two or more studies. The most studied physical symptoms were fatigue and sleep disturbance, and the most studied psychological symptoms were anxiety and depression. Among physical symptoms, drowsiness had the highest prevalence, followed by dry mouth and fatigue. Among psychological symptoms, worry and nervousness had the highest prevalence, followed by difficulty concentrating. CONCLUSIONS Physical and psychological symptoms are common in the target population. This review provides an up-to-date overview of symptom prevalence, identifying areas for future research. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Education about possible symptoms related to cancer and its treatment should be given while in treatment. Symptoms should also be monitored throughout the survivorship period. Nurses have a critical role in identifying and making referrals for psychological symptoms as well as promoting preventative strategies that enhance well-being.

Psychosocial risk, symptom burden, and concerns in families affected by childhood cancer. Support Care Cancer 2021; 30:2283-2292. Abstract
PURPOSE The revised Psychosocial Assessment Tool (PATrev) is a common family-level risk-based screening tool for pediatric oncology that has gained support for its ability to predict, at diagnosis, the degree of psychosocial support a family may require throughout the treatment trajectory. However, ongoing screening for symptoms and concerns (e.g., feeling alone, understanding treatment) remains underutilized. Resource limitations necessitate triaging and intervention based on need and risk. Given the widespread use of the PATrev, we sought to explore the association between family psychosocial risk, symptom burden (as measured by the revised Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS-r)), and concerns (as measured by the Canadian Problem Checklist (CPC)). METHODS Families (n = 87) with children ≤ 18 years of age (M = 11.72, male: 62.1%) on or off treatment for cancer were recruited from the Alberta Children's Hospital. One parent from each family completed the PATrev and the CPC. Participants 8-18 years of age completed the ESAS-r. RESULTS Risk category (universal/low risk = 67.8%, targeted/intermediate risk = 26.4%, clinical/high risk = 5.7%) predicted symptom burden (F[2, 63.07] = 4.57, p = .014) and concerns (F[2, 82.06] = 16.79, p < .001), such that universal risk was associated with significantly lower symptom burden and fewer concerns. CONCLUSION Family psychosocial risk is associated with cross-sectionally identified concerns and symptom burden, suggesting that resources might be prioritized for families with the greatest predicted need. Future research should evaluate the predictive validity of the PATrev to identify longitudinal concerns and symptom burden throughout the cancer trajectory.
