Abstract
BACKGROUND Higher suicide rates were observed in patients diagnosed with lymphoma. In this study, we accurately identified patients with high-risk lymphoma for suicide by constructing a nomogram with a view to effective interventions and reducing the risk of suicide. METHODS 235,806 patients diagnosed with lymphoma between 2000 and 2020 were picked from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and randomly divided into training (N = 165,064) and validation set (N = 70,742). A combination of the Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and Cox proportional hazards regression identified the predictors that constructed the nomogram. To assess the discrimination, calibration, clinical applicability, and generalization of this nomogram, we implemented receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC), calibration curves, decision curve analysis (DCA), and internal validation. The robustness of the results was assessed by the competing risks regression model. RESULTS Age at diagnosis, gender, ethnicity, marital status, stage, surgery, radiotherapy, and annual household income were key predictors of suicide in lymphoma patients. A nomogram was created to visualize the risk of suicide after a lymphoma diagnosis. The c-index for the training set was 0.773, and the validation set was 0.777. The calibration curve for the nomogram fitted well with the diagonal and the clinical decision curve indicated its clinical benefit. LIMITATION The effects of unmeasured and unnoticed biases and confounders were difficult to eliminate due to retrospective studies. CONCLUSION A convenient and reliable model has been constructed that will help to individualize and accurately quantify the risk of suicide in patients diagnosed with lymphoma.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate suicide mortality and the related factors among female breast cancer patients in the United States. METHODS The SEER database was used to identify 716,422 patients diagnosed with breast cancer between 2010 and 2018 to calculate a standardized mortality rate (SMR). An analysis of risk factors for suicide death was conducted using the univariate and multivariate Cox proportional risk model. An estimation of suicide probability was performed through a nomogram model. RESULTS Compared with the expected suicide cases (n = 155) in the general population of the United States at the corresponding period (a suicide death rate of 5.71 per 100,000 person-years), the suicide rate among 716,422 breast cancer patients was followed during 2010-2018 and showed a relatively higher rate of 9.02 per 100,000 person-years. The SMR was 1.58 (95%CI: 1.39-1.79). White and other races were nine and seven times more likely to complete suicide than Black race, respectively (aHR = 9.013, 95%CI: 3.335-24.36, P < 0.001; aHR = 7.129, 95%CI: 2.317-21.931, P = 0.001); unmarried or single patients were at higher risk than married patients (aHR = 1.693, 95%CI: 1.206-2.377, P = 0.002). Patients receiving radiotherapy (aHR = 0.731, 95%CI: 0.545-0.980, P = 0.036) were less likely to complete suicide than those who did not. CONCLUSION Female breast cancer patients in the United States have a higher suicide rate than the general public, and the risk factors consist of non-black ethnicity, being single or unmarried, and not being treated with radiotherapy. As a result of this study, clinicians may be able to identify female breast cancer patients who are at high risk of suicide, thus providing appropriate psychological support at the early stage.

Abstract
AIM A cancer diagnosis is often associated with physical as well as emotional distress. Previous studies indicate a higher risk for suicide in patients diagnosed with cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of death by suicide in a national cohort of patients with newly diagnosed colorectal cancer compared with a matched control group to determine if patients with colorectal cancer had an increased incidence of death by suicide. METHOD This national Swedish cohort was retrieved from the register-based research database CRCBaSe, which includes all patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer between 1997-2006 (rectal) and 2008-2016 (colon) and six controls for each patient matched by age, sex, and county. Cause specific mortality due to suicide was modelled using Cox proportional hazards model and adjusted for known risk factors. RESULTS The main analysis included patients operated for colorectal cancer, 55 578 patients compared with 307 888 controls. The first year after diagnosis the hazard ratio (HR) for suicide among patients operated for colorectal cancer was 1.86 (CI: 1.18-2.95) compared to controls. Suicide was more common among men than women (HR 2.08; 1.26-3.42 vs. 1.09; 0.32-3.75). A subgroup analysis of the 9198 patients who did not undergo surgery after diagnoses found a seven-fold increase of suicide (HR 7.03; 3.10-15.91). CONCLUSION Suicide after surgery for colorectal cancer was almost twice as high as in the control group, mainly driven by excess mortality among men. Although the cases were few in the subgroup of nonoperated patients, the considerably higher risk of suicide indicates that more resources might be needed in this group. Evaluation of risk factors for suicide among patients with colorectal cancer should be performed for early identification of individuals at risk.

Abstract
This study sought to identify independent risk factors associated with suicide following a diagnosis of bladder cancer and to develop a predictive model with the potential to contribute to suicide rate reduction. Harnessing data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, we identified bladder cancer patients diagnosed between 2004 and 2015, randomly assigning them to training and validation cohorts. The Cox proportional hazard model was employed to identify relevant predictors, leading to the construction of prediction nomogram models. Validation of prognostic nomograms involved assessing the consistency index (C-index), receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and calibration curve. A total of 109,961 eligible bladder cancer patients were enrolled, randomly divided into training and validation sets. Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that sex, marital status, tumor local status (T Stage), and lymph node metastatic conditions (N Stage) were independent predictors for suicide in bladder cancer patients. Evaluation of the nomogram's accuracy through the C-index and ROC curve demonstrated acceptable performance in both training and validation sets. Moreover, the calibration plot indicated moderate accuracy of the nomogram in both datasets. Overall, this study successfully identified risk factors for suicide among bladder cancer patients and developed a nomogram, offering individualized diagnosis, intervention, and risk assessment to mitigate the risk of suicide in this patient population.

Abstract
Cancer is a major public health concern associated with an increased risk of psychosocial distress and suicide. The reasons for this increased risk are still being characterized. The purpose of this study is to highlight existing observational studies on cancer-related suicides in the United States and identify gaps for future research. This work helps inform clinical and policy decision-making on suicide prevention interventions and ongoing research on the detection and quantification of suicide risk among cancer patients. We identified 73 peer-reviewed studies (2010-2022) that examined the intersection of cancer and suicide using searches of PubMed and Embase. Overall, the reviewed studies showed that cancer patients have an elevated risk of suicide when compared to the general population. In general, the risk was higher among White, male, and older cancer patients, as well as among patients living in rural areas and with lower socioeconomic status. Future studies should further investigate the psychosocial aspects of receiving a diagnosis of cancer on patients' mental health as well as the impact of new treatments and their availability on suicide risk and disparities among cancer patients to better inform policies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer patients are associated with an elevated risk of suicide. This study aims to investigate the suicide rates and identify risk factors for suicide among patients with malignant intracranial tumors (MITs). METHODS Patients diagnosed with MITs during the years of 1975-2015 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program. Suicide rates and standardized mortality ratios (SMR) were calculated. Cox regression analyses were used to identified risk factors for suicide among MIT patients. RESULTS Among 115,668 patients with MITs collected from the SEER program, 99 committed suicide. The rate of suicide was 23.02 per 100,000 person-years, and SMR of suicide was 1.90. Diagnosis in recent era (years 2000-2015, SMR = 2.01), male gender (SMR = 1.78), older age (60-79 years, SMR = 3.54), white race (SMR = 1.86), married persons (SMR = 2.31), living in rural areas (SMR = 2.50), history of other malignancy (SMR = 3.81), diagnosis of glioblastoma (SMR = 4.05) and supratentorial location (SMR = 2.45) were associated with an increased incidence of suicide. In addition, the risk of suicide increased significantly within the first year after diagnosis (SMR = 13.04). Multivariate Cox regressions showed that older age, male sex, and supratentorial location were independent risk factors for suicide. CONCLUSIONS The suicide mortality among patients with MITs steadily elevated in the past decades. Male sex, older age, and supratentorial location were significantly associated with risk of suicide, especially within the first year following diagnosis. Healthcare providers should early identify and effectively intervene with MIT patients at risk.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES People with severe mental illness (SMI) are at extreme risk of being stigmatized and to receive poor quality physical care. It has been demonstrated that they have higher morbidity and poorer prognosis of several medical diseases than the general population, with an at least 10-20-year reduction in life expectancy. METHODS A special issue of Psycho-Oncology focusing on cancer care among patients affected by SMI was called by the Editorial Board of the journal, with the aim to explore cancer health disparities and inequalities among people with SMI, mortality from cancer, problems of communication between multidisciplinary oncology and psychiatric teams and need for more structured intervention (i.e., screening, prevention, treatment). RESULTS Authors from eight countries contributed. The problem of stigma and barriers to cancer care provision for patients with SMI were studied (e.g., the complex nature of SMI and healthcare providers' misunderstanding of SMI). Key barriers were related to both patients, clinicians and institutional problems, such as fragmentation of care. A higher mortality from cancer and poor knowledge about cancer risk-factors was shown in patients with SMI. Models of intervention were also proposed. CONCLUSIONS Several conclusions have been recommended by the authors, such as the need for guidelines and clinical procedures specific for cancer care in mental health settings; large-scale studies to address the disparities of care in people with SMI; a larger vision of psychosocial oncology as the facilitator of the liaison between oncology and psychiatry.
