Abstract
The persistent release of tetracycline into the environment significantly endangers both ecosystems and human health. Zinc indium sulfide (ZnIn2S4) capable to degrade tetracycline pollutants under visible light irradiation has attracted extensive attentions and great effort has been devoted to augment its catalytic efficacy. In this work, we synthesized a p-n heterojunction, NiFe2O4/ZnIn2S4, to enhance the carrier migration rate and explained the intrinsic mechanism by density functional theory. When the heterojunction was formed, carriers traversed from the n-type NiFe2O4 to the p-type ZnIn2S4, instigating the emergence of a built-in electric field to facilitate the separation of carriers. 2 %-NiFe2O4/ZnIn2S4 exhibited excellent photocatalytic efficiency in tetracycline (TC) degradation and total organic carbon (TOC) removal. Compared to pure ZnIn2S4 and NiFe2O4, the TC degradation rates of 2 %-NiFe2O4/ZnIn2S4 were 2.0 times and 16.9 times higher, respectively. Additionally, 2 %-NiFe2O4/ZnIn2S4 had a saturation magnetization intensity of 3.05 emu/g, allowing for rapid recovery of the catalyst under a magnetic field. Superoxide radicals (O2-) and holes (h+) were the primary active species driving the degradation process. Furthermore, potential reaction pathways of tetracycline in this photocatalytic process were determined and bioconcentration factor and developmental toxicity of the intermediate products were accessed. This work held great potentials for wastewater treatment and provided a pathway for the development of magnetic recyclable photocatalysts.

Abstract
Agricultural runoff, fuel spillages, urbanization, hospitalization, and industrialization are some of the serious problems currently facing the world. In particular, byproducts that are hazardous to the ecosystem have the potential to mix with water used for drinking. Over the last three decades, various techniques, including biodegradation, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), (e.g., photocatalysis, photo-Fenton oxidation, Fenton-like oxidation, and electrochemical oxidation process adsorption), filtration, and adsorption techniques, have been developed to remove hazardous byproducts. Among those, AOPs, photocatalysis has received special attention from the scientific community because of its unusual properties at the nanoscale and its layered structure. Recently, bismuth based semiconductor (BBSc) photocatalysts have played an important role in solving global energy demand and environmental pollution problems. In particular, bismuth-based Z-scheme heterojunction (BBZSH) is considered the best alternative route to overhaul the limitations of single-component BBSc photocatalysts. This work aims to review recent studies on a new type of BBZSH photocatalysts for the treatment of contaminated water. The general overview of the synthesis methods, efficiency-enhancing strategies, classifications of BBSc and Z-scheme heterojunctions, the degradation mechanisms of Z- and S-schemes, and the application of BBZSH photocatalysts for the degradation of organic dyes, antibiotics, aromatics compounds, endocrine-disrupting compounds, and volatile organic compounds are reviewed. Finally, challenges and the future perspective of BBZSH photocatalysts are discussed.

Abstract
In this work, CQDs decorated MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 heterojunction was prepared successfully by hydrothermal technique for photocatalytic disinfection of Escherichia coli (E. coli) and mineralization of methyl orange (MO) dye. The charge transferal route and mineralization process in CQDs-MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 heterojunction were comprehensively investigated by advanced spectroscopic techniques. The improved visible-light activity and enhanced photo-generated charge transferal efficacy caused dual Z-scheme CQDs-MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 heterojunction to achieve boosted photodegradation ability. The catalytic degradation trend was followed as CQDs-MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 > MnIn2S4 > CdS > Bi2S3. The dye was mineralized within 180 min under visible light irradiation. The effect of reaction parameters, pH effect, catalyst dosage, and H2O2 addition on MO degradation was also investigated. The degradation rate was maximal at pH 4 with a pseudo-first-order rate constant, 0.0438 min-1. The assessment of antibacterial properties revealed that CQDs-MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 composite effectively inactivated E. coli under visible light. Scavenging experiments, transient photocurrent response, and electron spin resonance spectroscopy suggested that •[Formula: see text] and holes were the dominant reactive species. The Z-scheme heterojunction is recyclable up to ten photocatalytic cycles according to recycling experiments. This research indicates the importance of dual Z-scheme CQDs decorated MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 heterojunction in wastewater remediation.

Abstract
The construction of direct Z-scheme heterojunctions with high photocatalytic degradation ability is important for wastewater treatment, but there are still many unsolved challenges. In this article, we report the fabrication of a Z-scheme P-TiO2/g-C3N4 (CNPT-X) heterostructure by the calcination method. Under simulated sunlight, CNPT-X composites are found to show excellent degradation performance against sulfonamide antibiotics sulfadiazine (SD), sulfamethazine (SM2), sulfamonomethoxine (SMM), and sulfamethoxazole (SMZ). CNPT-3 (400 mg L-1) can be used to degrade four sulfa antibiotics within 90 min, with a degradation rate as high as 99%, which is higher than that for P-TiO2 and g-C3N4 alone. The internal electron transfer paths and mechanisms for the composites are revealed by ESR radical detection experiments, XPS energy spectrum shifts, valence band positions and active material quenching experiments. Furthermore, the degradation products are analyzed by GC-MS, and four possible degradation pathways for sulfonamide pollutants are proposed. This photocatalyst provides new insights into the fundamental aspects of the photocatalytic degradation mechanism for composite pollutants, as well as new ideas for practical environmental applications.

Abstract
Organic dye and antibiotic residues are some of the key substances that can contaminate the environment due to their wide usage in various industries and modern medicine. The degradation of these substances present in waterbodies is essential while contemplating human health. Photocatalysts (PSs) are promising materials that develop highly reactive species instantly by simple solar energy conversion for degrading the organic dye and antibiotic residues and converting them into nontoxic products. Among numerous semiconductors, the bismuth (Bi)-containing PS has received great attention due to its strong sunlight absorption, facile preparation, and high photostability. Owing to the technology advancement and demerits of the traditional methods, a Bi-containing direct Z-scheme PS has been developed for efficient photogenerated charge carrier separation and strong redox proficiency. In this review, a synthetic Bi-based Z-scheme heterojunction that mimics natural photosynthesis is described, and its design, fabrication methods, and applications are comprehensively reviewed. Specifically, the first section briefly explains the role of various semiconductors in the environmental applications and the importance of the Bi-based materials for constructing the Z-scheme photocatalytic systems. In the successive section, overview of Z-scheme PS are concisely discussed. The fourth and fifth sections extensively explain the degradation of the organic dyes and antibiotics utilizing the Bi-based direct Z-scheme heterojunction. Eventually, the conclusions and future perspectives of this emerging research field are addressed. Overall, this review is potentially useful for the researchers involved in the environmental remediation field as a collection of up-to-date research articles for the fabrication of the Bi-containing direct Z-scheme PS.
