Reusable Nano Catalysed Synthesis of Heterocycles: An Overview

Catalyzed syntheses of novel series of spiro thiazolidinone derivatives with nano Fe2O3: spectroscopic, X-ray, Hirshfeld surface, DFT, biological and docking evaluations

Twelve spiro thiazolidinone compounds (A-L) were synthesized via either conventional thermal or ultrasonication techniques using Fe2O3 nanoparticles. The modification of the traditional procedure by using Fe2O3 nanoparticles led to enhancement of the yield of the desired candidates to 78-93% in approximately half reaction time compared with 58-79% without catalyst. The products were fully characterized using different analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The structure of the two derivatives 4-phenyl-1-thia-4-azaspirodecan-3-one (A) and 4-(p-tolyl)-1-thia-4-azaspirodecan-3-one (B) were also determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction and Hirshfeld surface analysis. The two compounds (A and B) were crystallized in the orthorhombic system with Pbca and P212121 space groups, respectively. In addition, the crystal packing of compounds revealed the formation of supramolecular array with a net of intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. The energy optimized geometries of some selected derivatives were performed by density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP). The reactivity descriptors were also calculated and correlated with their biological properties. All the reported compounds were screened for antimicrobial inhibitions. The two derivatives, F and J, exhibited the highest levels of bacterial inhibition with an inhibition zone of 10-17 mm. Also, the two derivatives, F and J, displayed the most potent fungal inhibition with an inhibition zone of 15-23 mm. Molecular docking investigations of some selected derivatives were performed using a B-DNA (PDB: 1BNA) as a macromolecular target. Structure and activity relationship of the reported compounds were correlated with the data of antimicrobial activities and the computed reactivity parameters.

Copper (II) complex supported on magnetic nanoparticles as a novel nanocatalyst for the synthesis of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines

Research on the synthesis of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines has gained great importance among synthetic chemists because there have been numerous reports of their biological and medicinal activities. In this respect, we fabricated CuCl2 immobilized on Fe3O4 nanoparticles modified with 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-diol [Fe3O4@Diol/Phen-CuCl2] and investigated its catalytic activity for the preparation of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives through one-pot three-component reaction of 2-aminopyridines, aldehydes and terminal alkynes under ecofriendly conditions. FT-IR spectroscopy, EDX, SEM, TEM, XRD, TGA, VSM and ICP-OES techniques employed in order to identify the structure of the as-constructed Fe3O4@Diol/Phen-CuCl2 nanocatalyst. This catalytic system has a series of advantages such as the synthesis of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine products with high yields in suitable time, performing the reactions in an environmentally friendly solvent (PEG), easy preparation of the catalyst with a simple method, and the recyclability of the Fe3O4@Diol/Phen-CuCl2 nanocatalyst.

Versatile applications of transition metal incorporating quinoline Schiff base metal complexes: An overview

Since the last decade, research on quinoline Schiff base metal complexes has risen substantially due to their versatile applications across many significant fields. Schiff bases are also known as azomethines, aldimines, and imines. Quinoline Schiff base-derived metal complexes are intriguing to study topics. These complexes are employed in biological, analytical, and catalytic fields. Researchers have found that Schiff bases are more biologically active when coordinated with metal ions. Research in the biological sciences has shown that heterocyclic compounds like quinoline and its derivatives are important. Because of their broad spectrum of activity, quinoline derivatives have been discovered to be effective therapeutic agents for various disorders. Even though various classical synthetic pathways mentioned in the literature are still in use, there is an urgent need for a new, more effective method that is safer for the environment, has a higher yield, generates less hazardous waste, and is easier to use. This highlights the critical need for a safe, eco-friendly approach to quinoline scaffold synthesis. This review focuses exclusively on Schiff base metal complexes derived from quinoline, fabricated and studied in the past ten years, and having anticancer, antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, antidiabetic, antiproliferative, DNA-intercalation, and cytotoxic activities.

Research on the catalytic activity of MNP-[Dop-OH]-CuBr2 nanocomposites: novel and stable reusable nanocatalysts for the synthesis of 1,3,5-triazine derivatives

In recent years, magnetic nanocatalysts have been recommended as one of the best catalysts by chemists. Among magnetic nanoparticles, Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles are highly suitable due to their magnetic properties, chemical stability and low toxicity. These catalysts can be separated via magnetic separation after the chemical process is over and reused after regeneration. Owing to the importance of 1,3,5-triazine derivatives in pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry, the synthesis of these compounds is always one of the important goals of organic chemists. In this research work, we first successfully synthesized CuBr₂ immobilized on magnetic Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles functionalized with Dop-OH (prepared via the reaction of MNP-dopamine with 2-phenyloxirane) nanocomposites and then investigated their catalytic application in the synthesis of 1,3,5-triazine derivatives via an oxidative coupling reaction of amidine hydrochlorides and alcohols in air. Recycling experiments clearly revealed that MNP-[Dop-OH]-CuBr₂ nanocatalysts could be reused for at least 8 times without much loss of catalytic activity.

Immobilized nanoparticles-mediated enzyme therapy; promising way into clinical development

Enzyme (Enz)-mediated therapy indicated a remarkable effect in the treatment of many human cancers and diseases with an insight into clinical phases. Because of insufficient immobilization (Imb) approach and ineffective carrier, Enz therapeutic exhibits low biological efficacy and bio-physicochemical stability. Although efforts have been made to remove the limitations mentioned in clinical trials, efficient Imb-destabilization and modification of nanoparticles (NPs) remain challenging. NP internalization through insufficient membrane permeability, precise endosomal escape, and endonuclease protection following release are the primary development approaches. In recent years, innovative manipulation of the material for Enz immobilization (EI) fabrication and NP preparation has enabled nanomaterial platforms to improve Enz therapeutic outcomes and provide low-diverse clinical applications. In this review article, we examine recent advances in EI approaches and emerging views and explore the impact of Enz-mediated NPs on clinical therapeutic outcomes with at least diverse effects.

Design and characterization of an urea-bridged PMO supporting Cu(II) nanoparticles as highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for synthesis of tetrazole derivatives

In this work, a new periodic mesoporous organosilica with urea-bridges produced by the reaction of (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane and toluene-2,4-diisocyanate (APS-TDU-PMO) is introduced. The obtained APS-TDU-PMO was found to be an appropriate support for loading of Cu(II) nanoparticles to afford supramolecular Cu@APS-TDU-PMO nanocomposite. Uniformity and mesoporosity of both synthesized nanomaterials including APS-TDU-PMO and Cu@APS-TDU-PMO were proved by different spectroscopic, microscopic or analytical techniques including FTIR, EDX, XRD, FESEM, TEM, BET, TGA and DTA. Furthermore, the prepared Cu@APS-TDU-PMO nanomaterial was also used, as a heterogeneous and recyclable catalyst, for the synthesis of tetrazole derivatives through cascade condensation, concerted cycloaddition and tautomerization reactions. Indeed, the main advantages of this Cu@APS-TDU-PMO is its simple preparation and high catalytic activity as well as proper surface area which enable it to work under solvent-free conditions. Also, the introduced Cu@APS-TDU-PMO heterogeneous catalyst showed good stability and reusability for six consecutive runs to address more green chemistry principles.

Emerging Two-Dimensional-Based Nanostructured Catalysts: Applications in Sustainable Organic Transformations

The extension of green and sustainable materials in the preparation of heterogeneous catalysts for organic transformations has increased over the past few decades. Because of their unique and intriguing physical and chemical properties, two-dimensional (2D) nanostructured materials have attracted widespread attention and have been used in a variety of applications, such as catalysis, electronics, and energy storage. A promising pathway to enhance the performance of 2D nanomaterials is their coupling with other functional materials to form heterogeneous or hybrid structures. Herein, we discuss the use of 2D-based nanostructured catalysts for enhancing organic transformations and highlight selected examples to demonstrate the synthesis, advantages, challenges, efficiency, and reusability of the introduced heterogeneous catalysts for cross-coupling and reduction reactions.

Investigation of Fe3O4@boehmite NPs as efficient and magnetically recoverable nanocatalyst in the homoselective synthesis of tetrazoles

Magnetic boehmite nanoparticles (Fe₃O₄@boehmite NPs) were synthesized from a hybrid of boehmite and Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles. At first, boehmite nanoparticles (aluminum oxide hydroxide) were prepared via a simple procedure in water using commercially available materials such as sodium hydroxide and aluminum nitrate. Then, these nanoparticles were magnetized using Fe₃O₄ NPs in a basic solution of FeCl₂·4H₂O and FeCl₃·6H₂O. Fe₃O₄@boehmite NPs have advantages of both boehmite nanoparticles and Fe₃O₄ magnetic materials. Magnetic boehmite nanoparticles have been characterized by various techniques such as TEM, SEM, EDS, WDX, ICP, FT-IR, Raman, XRD and VSM. SEM and TEM images confirmed that particles size are less than 50 nm in diameter with a cubic orthorhombic structure. Then, Fe₃O₄@boehmite NPs were applied as a homoselective, highly efficient, cheap, biocompatibility, heterogeneous and magnetically recoverable nanocatalyst in the synthesis of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazole derivatives. Fe₃O₄@boehmite NPs can be recycled for several runs in the synthesis of tetrazoles. Also, all tetrazoles were isolated in high yields, which reveals high activity of Fe₃O₄@boehmite NPs in the synthesis of tetrazole derivatives. Fe₃O₄@boehmite NPs shows a good homoselectivity in synthesis of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazole derivatives.

Magnetic boehmite nanoparticles were synthesized from a hybrid of boehmite and Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles. Then, it was applied as a homoselective, highly efficient, cheep, heterogeneous and recoverable nanocatalyst in the synthesis of tetrazole derivative.
