Abstract
Researchers unremittingly strive to develop innovative luminophores to enhance intrinsic electrochemiluminescence (ECL) performance. However, the potential to harness facile strategies, such as manipulating the physical properties of luminophores while retaining functional chemical properties to fabricate cost-effective ECL complexes, remains underexplored. Herein, we reported a novel and efficient one-step galvanic technique to actualize aggregation-enhanced ECL (AEECL) of ruthenium complexes. It marked the first instance of the galvanic process being employed to synthesize aggregate luminophores through electrostatic attraction. The ECL intensity and efficiency of the prepared ruthenium complexes with AEECL properties surpassed traditional ruthenium complexes by 8.9 and 13.6 times, respectively, outperforming most reported luminophores. Remarkably, the target luminophore exhibited high stability across varied scan rates and temperatures. Furthermore, a binder-free and carbon paper-based AEECL analytical device for lidocaine detection was fabricated, achieving a satisfactory detection limit (0.34 nM) and selectivity. The convenient modulation strategy of aggregate structure, along with the transformative leap from insufficient ECL to AEECL, bring forth a new revenue in aggregate science. This research also promises a universally applicable and versatile protocol for future biological analysis and bioimaging applications.

Abstract
A microsphere, assembled from a chiral π-conjugated polymer with narrow polydispersity, features a well-organized twisted-bipolar structure and exhibits highly biased circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). The CPL emitted toward the equatorial direction is 61-fold greater than that emitted along the zenith direction, which is the highest anisotropy among existing microscopic CPL emitters.

Supramolecular polymerization of [6]helicene-based cyano-luminogens: on the overall efficiency of self-assembled circularly polarized emitters. NANOSCALE 2024; 16:13041-13049. Abstract
The synthesis of the [6]helicene-based luminophores 1 and 2 is reported. These chiral systems, endowed with cyano-stilbene fragments, form supramolecular polymers by the operation of intermolecular H-bonding interactions between the amides present in the peripheral side chains. The dissimilar disubstitution of 1 and 2 plays a crucial role in their self-assembling features. Thus, 1 does not show an efficient π-stacking of the central aromatic moiety. Instead, its self-assembling process results in a zig-zag arrangement of the monomeric units to form the aggregated species. On the other hand, 2 presents an efficient overlap of the aromatic backbones that affords a co-facial arrangement of the monomeric units. The solvent-dependent studies indicate that both [6]helicenes self-assemble following a cooperative supramolecular polymerization mechanism with a higher degree of cooperativity and stability for compound 2. The enantioenriched samples of both 1 and 2 display a rich dichroic pattern that changes when the supramolecular polymerization takes place. Furthermore, the presence of the cyano-stilbene moieties gives rise to an aggregation induced emission effect. The inherent chirality of both the monomeric and aggregated species of 1 and 2 provides the systems with CPL-emitting properties, presenting a remarkable overall CPL-efficiency, quantified by the BCPL parameter, that increases upon supramolecular polymerization.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL)-active materials are increasingly recognized for their potential applications such as 3D imaging, data storage, and optoelectronic devices. Typically, CPL materials have required high-energy (HE) photons for excitation to emit low-energy (LE) circularly polarized light, a process known as downshifting CPL (DSCPL). However, the emergence of upconverted CPL (UCCPL), where the absorption of multi LE photons results in the emission of a single HE photon with circular polarization, has recently attracted considerable attention. This minireview highlights the intricate relationship between upconversion and CPL phenomena. During upconversion, the dissymmetry factor (glum) value can be improved in certain systems. Additionally, the integration of both LE and HE photons in upconversion-downshifting-synergistic systems offers avenues for dual-excitation or dual-emission CPL functionalities. More in detail, the emerging UCCPL based on various photon upconversion mechanisms and their synergy with DSCPL are introduced. Additionally, several examples that demonstrate the applications of UCCPL are presented to highlight the future opportunities.

Abstract
A pair of novel chiral Zn(II) complexes coordinated by Schiff-base type ligands derived from BINOL (1,1'-bi-2-naphthol), R-/S-Zn, were synthesized. X-ray crystallography revealed the presence of two crystallographically independent complexes; one has a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal structure coordinated by two binaphthyl ligands and one disordered methanol molecule (molecule A), while the other has a distorted tetrahedral structure coordinated by two binaphthyl ligands (molecule B). Numerous CH⋯π and CH⋯O interactions were identified, contributing to the formation of a 3-dimensional rigid network structure. Both R-/S-Zn exhibited fluorescence in both CH2Cl2 solutions and powder samples, with the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of powder samples being twice as large as those in solutions, indicating aggregation-induced enhanced emission (AIEE). The AIEE properties were attributed to the restraint of the molecular motion arising from the 3-dimensional intermolecular interactions. CD and CPL spectra were observed for R-/S-Zn in both solutions and powders. The dissymmetry factors, gabs and gCPL values, were within the order of 10-3 to 10-4 magnitudes, comparable to those reported for chiral Zn(II) complexes in previous studies.

Abstract
In this study, a series of enantioenriched sp3-Ge/B bimetallic modules were successfully synthesized via an enantioselective copper-catalyzed hydroboration of carbagermatrane (Ge)-containing alkenes. Orthogonal cross-coupling selectivity under different Pd-catalyzed conditions was achieved in an enantiospecific manner. Notably, the chiral secondary Ge exhibited a remarkable transmetallation ability prior to primary or secondary Bpin. The effectiveness of this Ge/B bimetallic strategy was further demonstrated through the development of new functional small molecules with Aggregation-Induced Emission (AIE) and Circularly Polarized Luminescence (CPL) performance. This represents the first successful example of synthesis of enantioenriched alkylgermanium reagents that permit enantiospecific cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials are the research frontier of chiral luminescence. As a kind of luminescent carbon material, carbon dots (CDs) are expected to become excellent candidates for the construction of CPL materials. However, the construction of CD-based circularly polarized afterglow emission, especially multicolor and near-infrared emission, remains a great challenge due to aggregation-caused quenching and the instability of triplet excitons. In this work, we synthesized chiral CDs with aggregation-induced emission using dithiosalicylic acid and l/d-arginine as precursors through a one-step solvothermal method. Notably, the CDs exhibit green delayed fluorescence (DF) in poly(vinyl alcohol) films. Furthermore, multicolor and near-infrared circularly polarized delayed fluorescence is successfully realized via engineering a chiral light-harvesting system in which the CDs with green DF emission act as energy donors and fluorescent dyes with emission colors ranging from yellow to the near infrared serve as energy acceptors.

Abstract
With the aim of broadening the scope of Janus-type polymers with new functionalities, Janus-type miktoarm star copolymers comprising helical poly(phenyl isocyanide) (PPI) and a vinyl polymer were designed and synthesized via a combination of Pd(II)-initiated isocyanide polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). A functional β-cyclodextrin bearing 7 Pd(II) complexes at one side and 14 bromine groups at the other side ((Pd(II))7-CD-(Br)14) was prepared and used as an initiator for the one-pot polymerization of phenyl isocyanide and the ATRP of vinyl monomers in a living and controlled manner. A variety of Janus-type copolymers with different structures and tunable compositions were facilely obtained by using this method. Thus, Janus-type copolymers composed of helical PPIs and tetraphenylethylene-modified vinyl polymers exhibited a significant circularly polarized luminescence performance in both soluble and aggregated states. Meanwhile, Janus-type copolymers containing PPIs and hydrophilic vinyl polymers presented amphiphilicity and self-assembled into diverse morphologies.

Abstract
An optically active π-stacked molecule was synthesized incorporating planar chiral [2.2]paracyclophane and o-carborane units to impart circularly polarized luminescence and aggregation-induced emission properties to the molecule. The molecule exhibited a strong emission from the aggregated state in a mixed solvent system (H2O/THF) and the solid state in the PMMA matrix. In the aggregated state, weak circularly polarized luminescence was observed owing to the random intermolecular orientation. On the other hand, the circularly polarized luminescence was clearly observed in the PMMA film containing 1 wt% molecule. Theoretical studies using time-dependent density functional theory reproduced the molecule's circular dichroism and circularly polarized luminescence properties.

Abstract
Next-generation medical and consumer electrical devices require soft, flexible materials. Piezoelectric materials, capable of converting mechanical stress into electrical energy, are of interest across various fields. Chiral nanostructures, with inherent chirality, have emerged as potential piezoelectric materials. Peptide-based materials, known for self-assembly and stimuli responsiveness, hold promise for the utilization of chiral nanostructures. When combined with luminescent chromophores, peptides can generate aggregation-induced chiroptical effects like Circularly Polarized Luminescence (CPL) and Circular Dichroism (CD). In this study, a chiral organogel, L,L-1 is synthesized, and its self-assembly, mechanical properties, and chiroptical features are examined. The organogel exhibits thermo-reversible and thixotropic behavior, forming fibrillar networks and 2D-sheets upon cooling. CD spectroscopy reveals aggregation-induced chirality on pyrene chromophore, resulting in CPL with glum values of 3.0 (± 0.2) × 10-3 and 3.1 (± 0.2) × 10-3 for L,L-1 and D,D-1, respectively. Notably, the 2D-sheets exhibit an enhanced piezoelectric response (d33 ≈76.0 pm V-1 ) compared to the fibrillar network (d33 ≈64.1 pm V-1 ). Introducing an electron-deficient molecule into the solution forms a Charge-transfer (CT) complex, modulating the piezoelectric response to d33 ≈52.44 pm V-1 . This study offers a promising approach to optoelectronics design, presenting a chiral system with both CPL and piezoelectric responses, opening new possibilities for innovative applications.

Abstract
Enhancing the dissymmetry factor (glum ) is a crucial issue in developing circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials. Herein, based on supramolecular self-assembly of diethyl l-glutamate-cyanodiarylethene (L-GC) in mixed solution of EtOH-H2 O with different water fraction, enhanced circularly polarized emission from pulsating nanotubules is realized. In the mixture of ethanol and water (30/70, v/v), L-GC self-assembles into roll-up-type dense nanotubes and shows l-CPL. Remarkably, by increasing the water fraction to 80% and 90%, the diameter of the roll-up nanotubes increases and the dissymmetry factor of the nanotubes is significantly enhanced from 6.9 × 10-3 (dense nanotubes) to 3.7 × 10-2 (loose nanotubes) because of the enhanced intermolecular interactions and more ordered supramolecular stacking when increasing the water fraction. An efficient way is provided here to realize the increase of the dissymmetry factor by only changing the composition of solvents.

Abstract
In the dynamic domain of chiroptical technologies, it is imperative to engineer emitters endowed with circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) properties. This research demonstrates an advancement by employing a combined top-down and bottom-up strategy for the simultaneous amplification of photoluminescence quantum yield (Φ) and the luminescence dissymmetry factor (glum ). Square-planar Pt(II) complexes form helical assemblies, driven by torsional strain induced by bis(nonyl) chains. Integration of chiral anions leads these assemblies to prefer distinct helical sense. This arrangement activates the metal-metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MMLCT) transition that is CPL-active, with Φ and |glum | observing an upswing contingent on the charge number and aryl substituents in chiral anions. Utilizing the soft-lithographic micromolding in capillaries technique, we could fabricate exquisitely-ordered, one-dimensional co-assemblies to achieve the metrics to Φ of 0.32 and |glum | of 0.13. Finally, our spectroscopic research elucidates the underlying mechanism for the dual amplification, making a significant stride in the advancement of CPL-active emitters.

Abstract
Enantiopure helicenes have been extensively investigated due to their outstanding chiroptical properties, while helicene racemates are considered as chiroptically silent. Here, we describe a facile method to produce circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) from helicene racemates via supramolecular association with DNA in aqueous solution. Racemic cationic helicene derivatives are immobilized in the grooves of commercially available double-stranded right-handed DNA, and the discrimination of left- and right-handed helicenes by chiral DNA is monitored by single molecule force spectroscopy. This subsequently leads to the generation of prominent CPL with dissymmetric factor |glum | of close to 0.01, which is approximate to enantiopure helicenes. The strategy developed in this work avoids the tedious and expensive chiral resolution process and provides a distinctive insight into the fabrication of CPL-emitting systems.

Abstract
In-depth studies of chirality and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) have become indispensable in the process of learning human nature. Small molecules with CPL activity are one of the research hotspots. However, the CPL properties of such materials are generally not satisfying. Here, we synthesized a series of chiral small molecular fluorophores that cannot demonstrate CPL emission themselves. By introducing an optically inactive helical polymer, chirality transfer and chirality amplification efficiently occur, thereby generating intense CPL emission. Through combining different chiralized fluorophores, multicolor CPL-active films with emission wavelength centered at 463, 525, and 556 nm were fabricated, with the maximum luminescence dissymmetry factor (glum) being up to -0.028. Then, benefiting from the strong CPL emission and appropriate energy donor-acceptor system, we further established a circularly polarized fluorescence-energy transfer (CPF-ET) strategy in which the CPL-active films work as a donor emitting circularly polarized fluorescence to excite an achiral fluorophore (Nile red) as the acceptor, producing red CPL with glum of up to -0.011 at around 605 nm.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) has been widely demonstrated that the circular polarization in excited state can be significantly amplified through the triplet-triplet annihilation-based upconversion (TTA-UC) luminescence process in various chiral nano-assemblies. However, constructing such an upconverted circularly polarized luminescence (UC-CPL) system in the aqueous phase remains a challenge. In this work, a kind of amphiphilic chiral cationic gemini surfactant is utilized to construct chiral spherical micelle in the aqueous phase, whose internal chiral cavity can provide a hydrophobic and deoxygenated environment for air-sensitive TTA-UC system. In addition, due to the co-assembly process between the emitters and chiral micelles, achiral emitters of upconversion pairs exhibit induced chiroptical properties. More importantly, the luminescence dissymmetry factor (glum ) can be amplified by one order of magnitude through TTA-UC process. This work provides an effective and useful strategy for realizing UC-CPL in aqueous phase.

Abstract
Here, the use of achiral nanoparticles and solvent-induced chirality transfer is combined for the making of large structures exhibiting chiroptical properties in the form of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). The nanoparticles that the authors use are carbon dots (C-Dots) that are known for their bright luminescence and the ability to tune their surface moieties by using different precursors in their synthesis. Here, the result of adding the chiral solvent limonene into an aqueous solution of various C-Dots is explored, differentiated by their surface group. It is shown that only nitrogen-containing C-Dots with amine functional groups see the emergence of a CPL signal and the formation of a large fibrillar assembled structure. The various forces happening in the interface between the C-Dots and the limonene phase and the role of the amine groups in both the chirality transfer interactions and the interactions between C-Dots in the assembly process are discussed, whereas these two processes intertwine with each other. The ability to form fluorescent chiral structures exhibiting CPL from achiral nanoparticles and the understanding of the various interactions in this process are both important to the rationale design of any supramolecular chiral assemblies.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) dyes are recognized to be new generation materials and have been actively developed. Molecular recognition systems provide nice approaches to novel CPL materials, such as stimuli-responsive switches and chemical sensing materials. CPL may be induced simply by mixing chiral or achiral, luminescent or nonluminescent host and guest; there are several combinations. Molecular recognition can potentially save time and effort to construct well-ordered chiral structures with noncovalent attractive interactions as compared with the multi-step synthesis of covalently bonded dyes. It is a challenging subject to engage molecular recognition events with CPL, and it is important and interesting to see how it is achieved. In fact, simple molecular recognition systems can even enable the fine adjustment of CPL performance and detailed conformational/configurational analysis of the excited state. Here we overview the recent achievements of simple host-guest complexes capable of exhibiting CPL, summarizing concisely the host/guest structures, CPL intensities, and characteristics.

Abstract
Aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-type metal nanoclusters (NCs) represent an innovative type of luminescent metal NCs whose aggregates exhibit superior performance over that of individuals, attracting wide attention over the past decade. Here, we give a concise overview of the progress made in this area, from design strategies to applications. The representative design strategies, including solvent-induction, cation-induction, crystallization-induction, pH-induction, ligand inheritance, surface constraint, and minerals- and MOF-confinement, are first discussed. We then present the typical practical applications of AIE-type metal NCs in the various sectors of bioimaging, biological diagnosis and therapy (e.g., antibacterial agents, cancer radiotherapy), light-emitting diodes (LEDs), detection assays, and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). To this end, we present our viewpoints on the promises and challenges of AIE-type metal NCs, which may shed light on the design of highly luminescent metal NCs, stimulating new vitality and serving as a continuous boom for the metal NC community in the future.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) has attracted much interest due to its potential applications on chiral photonic techniques and optoelectronic materials science. As known, dissymmetry factor (gem ) of CPL is one essential factor for evaluating the features of CPL-active materials. Much attention has focused on how to increase the gem value, which is one of the most important issues for CPL practical applications. Recently, more and more works have demonstrated that chiral supramolecular could provide the significant strategy to improve the gem value through the orderly helical superstructure of chiral building blocks. Normally, this kind of chiral supramolecular assembly process can be accompanied by chirality transfer and induction mechanism, which can promote the amplification effect on the induced CPL of achiral dyes. In this review, we fully summarized recent advances on the induced CPL-active materials of chiral supramolecular co-assemblies, their applications in circularly polarized organic light-emitting diodes (CP-OLEDs) and current challenges.

Abstract
Dynamically controlling the supramolecular chirality is of great significance in development of functional chiral materials, which is thus essential for the specific function implementation. As an external energy input, light is remote and accurate for modulating chiral assemblies. In non-polarized light control, some photochemically reactive units (e. g., azobenzene, ɑ-cyanostilbene, spiropyran, anthracene) or photo-induced directionally rotating molecular motors were designed to drive chiral transfer or amplification. Besides, photoexcitation induced assembly based physical approach was also explored recently to regulate supramolecular chirality beyond photochemical reactions. In addition, circularly polarized light was applied to induce asymmetric arrangement of organic molecules and asymmetric photochemical synthesis of inorganic metallic nanostructures, in which both wavelength and handedness of circularly polarized light have effects on the induced supramolecular chirality. Although light-triggered chiral assemblies have been widely applied in photoelectric materials, biomedical fields, soft actuator, chiral catalysis and chiral sensing, there is a lack of systematic review on this topic. In this review, we summarized the recent studies and perspectives in the constructions and applications of light-responsive chiral assembled systems, aiming to provide better knowledge for the development of multifunctional chiral nanomaterials.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) has been researched for various applications by control of characteristics such as chirality and magnitude. Supramolecular chirality has been prepared by vortex motion as a mechanical stimulus; however, CPL has yet to be controlled precisely and reproducibly. In this work, the first precise control of CPL under vortex flow conditions at an air-water interface is reported. The supramolecular chirality of aggregates consisting of an achiral trans-bis(salicylaldiminato)Pt(II) complex bearing hexadecyl chains is induced and controlled with vortex flow at the air-water interface, whereas the complex naturally forms an achiral amorphous solid with non-chiroptical properties under non-vortex conditions. The CPL direction and magnitude (glum value) of the Pt(II) complex aggregates can be adjusted precisely according to the vortex conditions, including the rotatory direction and flow rate. Vortex-flow-induced emission enhancement is also observed upon an increase in the rate of the vortex flow.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescent (CPL) films with high dissymmetry factors hold great potential for optoelectronic applications. Herein, we propose a strategy for achieving strongly dissymetric CPL in nanocomposite films based on chirality induction and energy transfer to semiconductor nanocrystals. First, focusing on a purely organic system, aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and CPL activity of organic liquid crystals (LCs) forming helical nanofilaments was detected, featuring green emission with high dissymmetry factors glum ∼ 10-2. The handedness of helical filaments, and thus the sign of CPL, was controlled via minute amounts of a small chiral organic dopant. Second, nanocomposite films were fabricated by incorporating InP/ZnS semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) into the LC matrix, which induced the chiral assembly of QDs and endowed them with chiroptical properties. Due to the spectral matching of the components, energy transfer (ET) from LC to QDs was possible enabling a convenient way of tuning CPL wavelengths by varying the LC/QD ratio. As obtained, composite films exhibited absolute glum values up to ∼10-2 and thermally on/off switchable luminescence. Overall, we demonstrate the induction of chiroptical properties by the assembly of nonchiral building QDs on the chiral organic template and energy transfer from organic films to QDs, representing a simple and versatile approach to tune the CPL activity of organic materials.

Abstract
In recent years, it has been very interesting to dynamically adjust the emission of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials through external stimulation due to their applications and the fundamental interest in them. In this work, luminescence-tunable and light-responsive supramolecular co-assembly CPL-active materials are fabricated by mixing an achiral functional spiropyran (SP-COOH) molecule with a chiral gelator. The spiropyran achieves a reversible change between a white closed ring state spiropyran and a purple zwitterionic merocyanine state in supramolecular co-assembly gels under alternate visible (vis) and ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. The gel shows strong CPL signals due to the chirality transfer in co-assembly systems. These signals could change reversibly under alternate exposure to UV and vis light. Therefore, utilizing the multistimulus-responsive CPL signals in different states, a CPL switch of the supramolecular system signal according to the combinatorial control of UV-vis light irradiation is constructed.

Abstract
Coinage metal nanoclusters (MNCs) are a new type of ultra-small nanoparticles on the sub-nanometer (typically < three nm) scale intermediate between atoms and plasmonic nanoparticles. At the same time, the ultra-small size and discrete energy levels of MNCs enable them to exhibit molecular-like energy gaps, and the total structure involving the metal core and surface ligand together leads to their unique properties. As a novel environmentally friendly chromophore, MNCs are promising candidates for the construction of electroluminescent light-emitting diodes (LEDs). However, a systematic summary is urgently needed to correlate the properties of MNCs with their influences on electroluminescent LED applications, describe the synthetic strategies of highly luminescent MNCs for LEDs’ construction, and discuss the general influencing factors of MNC-based electroluminescent LEDs. In this review, we first discuss relevant photoemissions of MNCs that may have major influences on the performance of MNC-based electroluminescent LEDs, and then demonstrate the main synthetic strategies of highly luminescent MNCs. To this end, we illustrate the recent development of electroluminescent LEDs based on MNCs and present our perspectives on the opportunities and challenges, which may shed light on the design of MNC-based electroluminescent LEDs in the near future.

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) has attracted great interest owing to its extensive optical information and chiral structural dependence. However, rationally regulating solid-phase CPL signals remains difficult because of the close packing of molecules in solid-state materials and the lack of structural visualization. In this work, we proposed a microphase-separation-recognized CPL regulation strategy via coassembly of a hexathiobenzene-based luminophore and chiral block copolymer (cBCP) with in situ photocontrollability. As a consequence to the continuous increase in the luminophore-to-cBCP ratio, the CPL signal of the supramolecular system exhibited an increasing trend until a critical point. Then, further increasing the ratio stretched the helical pitch of cBCP, which led to CPL reduction. With the photoexcitation-induced molecular aggregation of the luminophore, which was implemented using in situ photoirradiation, the helical pitch was retracted along with the restoration of the CPL signal. These processes were fully recognized and monitored by the microphase-separated nanomorphological change of the coassembled system, which indicated that such a structural contrast could be an effective method for rationally regulating the supramolecular chiropticity of solid-state materials.

Abstract
Two chiral molecules 1 and 2 were designed and synthesized with a pyrene moiety directly linked to a chiral cholesterol moiety and connected through a methylene spacer, respectively. Influence of the spacer on their stimuli-responsive luminescence, chirality, and self-assembly behaviors was systematically investigated. Molecules 1 and 2 had similar aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) in solution, because of carrying the same fluorescence moiety. Both molecules displayed mechanochromism (MC) property but with different color contrast, whereas only 2 showed mechanoluminescence (ML) activity. When doping in liquid crystal molecule 5CB, both molecules induced the formation of chiral nematic liquid crystals (N*-LCs) with strong circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). Molecule 2 induced single handedness signal, irrespective of doping ratios, while 1-doped N*-LCs showed an inversion of CPL signal from negative to positive upon the increase of doping ratios. Molecules 1 and 2 also self-assembled into different coassemblies with 5CB. Their distinct behaviors were attributed to the influence of the methylene spacer, which caused different molecular conformation and steric bulkiness; accordingly, it changed intermolecular interactions and molecular packing of the two molecules and led to diverse chirality and luminescence. This work provided important model molecules to better understand the molecular structure-property relationship and guide the design of novel functional molecules.

Abstract
Cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) are chiral supramolecular systems that self-assemble into a highly regular helical arrangement in a liquid crystal (LC) medium. Such an arrangement is highly beneficial for the chiral enlargement effect on circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) signals. Dichroic dyes with rod-like molecular structures can exhibit fluorescence anisotropy along both the long and short molecular axes owing to their transition dipole moment (TDM) vectors. In this work, a pair of donor-accepter (D-A) achiral dichroic dyes is prepared, namely, 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene derivative (P1, whose TDM vector is parallel to the long axis of the molecule, i.e., F|| > F⊥ ) and anthraquinone derivative (N1, whose TDM vector is perpendicular to the long axis of the molecule, i.e., F|| < F⊥ ). CLCs can be fabricated by doping P1 or N1 together with chiral 1,1'-binaphthyl-derived inducers into SLC1717 medium. Dynamic CPL with tunable handedness and intensity is achieved by changing the N1:P1 mass ratio, and the luminescence dissymmetry factor (gem ) value reaches |0.71|. This work describes the first observation of dynamic CPL with tunable handedness and intensity enabled by TDM regulation of achiral dichroic dyes in a CLC medium.

Abstract
A series of chiral Schiff-base boron difluoride complexes was synthesized and their photophysical properties were examined. These complexes showed multi-colour (blue, yellow and red) photoluminescence in solution and in the solid state with good emission quantum yield (Φ) depending on the π-systems of the ligands. The chiral complexes exhibited circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) with an absolute luminescence dissymmetry factor (glum) of up to the 1.3 × 10-3 in solution and 1.9 × 10-2 in the drop-cast film state. Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent (TD) DFT calculations were conducted to further understand the photophysical properties.

Abstract
Hierarchically structured chiral luminescent materials hold promise for achieving efficient circularly polarized luminescence. However, a feasible chemical route to fabricate hierarchically structured chiral luminescent polycrystals is still elusive because of their complex structures and complicated formation process. We here report a biomimetic non-classical crystallization (BNCC) strategy for preparing efficient hierarchically structured chiral luminescent polycrystals using well-designed highly luminescent homochiral copper(I)-iodide hybrid clusters as basic units for non-classical crystallization. By monitoring the crystallization process, we unravel the BNCC mechanism, which involves crystal nucleation, nanoparticles aggregation, oriented attachment, and mesoscopic transformation processes. We finally obtain the circularly polarized phosphors with both high luminescent efficiency of 32% and high luminescent dissymmetry factor of 1.5 × 10−2, achieving the demonstration of a circularly polarized phosphor converted light emitting diode with a polarization degree of 1.84% at room temperature. Our designed BNCC strategy provides a simple, reliable, and large-scale synthetic route for preparing bright circularly polarized phosphors. Chiral emitters with high photoluminescence quantum yield are desirable for use in circularly polarized LEDs. The authors demonstrate the transfer of chirality from nanoscale copper iodide clusters to microscale chiral luminescent polycrystals by non-classical crystallization.

Abstract
Chiral organic phosphors with circularly polarized room-temperature phosphorescence (CPP) provide new prospects to the realm of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials, owing to the long-lived triplet states and persistent emission. Although several molecular designs show efficient room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP), realization of ambient organic CPP remains a formidable challenge. Herein, we introduce a chiral bischromophoric phosphor design to realize ambient CPP emission by appending molecular phosphors to a chiral diaminocyclohexane core. Thus, solution-processable polymer films of the trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (DAC) chiral cores with heavy-atom substituted pyromellitic diimide phosphors, exhibits one of the most efficient exclusive CPP emissions with high phosphorescence quantum yield (≈18 % in air and ≈46 % under vacuum) and significant luminescence dissymmetry factor (|glum |≈4.0×10-3 ).

Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL)-active materials with high dissymmetry factor (glum) values show great potential in photonic devices. In this study, electric-field-driven systems with tunable CPL signals are successfully fabricated based on polymer-stabilized cholesteric liquid crystal (PSChLC) doping by fluorescent molecules. By constructing a gradient helical superstructure of PSChLCs, distinctive CPL emission from two sides of a single sample is realized, in which the |glum| values were measured to be 0.6 and 1.5, respectively. Herein, we discussed the possible mechanism of this phenomenon. In addition, an applied electric field could broaden the reflection bandwidth of PSChLCs from 150 to 500 nm, covering the whole visible light region. Furthermore, this electric field-induced behavior leads to the variation of CPL signals and corresponding glum values, indicating the potential of the novel materials in the design and preparation of CPL-emitting devices with electrically tunable CPL intensity and glum.

Abstract
Chirality is important to chemistry, biology and optoelectronic materials. The study on chirality has lasted for more than 170 years since its discovery. Recently, chiral materials with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) have attracted increasing interest because of their fascinating photophysical properties. In this review, we discussed the recent development of chiral materials with AIE properties, including their molecular structures, self-assembly and functions. Generally, the most effective strategy to design a chiral AIE luminogen (AIEgen) is to attach a chiral scaffold to an AIE-active fluorophore through covalent bonds. Moreover, some propeller-like or shell-like AIEgens without chiral units exhibit latent chirality upon mirror image symmetry breaking. The chirality of achiral AIEgens can also be induced by some optically active molecules through non-covalent interactions. The introduction of an AIE unit into chiral materials can enhance the efficiency of their circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) in the solid state and the dissymmetric factors of their helical architectures formed through self-assembly. Thus, highly efficient circularly polarized organic light-emitting diodes (CPOLEDs) with AIE characteristics are developed and show great potential in 3D displays. Chiral AIEgens are also widely utilized as "turn on" sensors for rapid enantioselective determination of chiral reagents. It is anticipated that the present review can entice readers to realize the importance of chirality and attract much more chemists to contribute their efforts to chirality and AIE study.

Abstract
Structural designs combining cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs) backbone with planar chiral [2.2]Paracyclophane ([2.2]PCP) lead to optical-active chiral macrocycles with intriguing properties. X-ray crystal analysis revealed aesthetic necklace-shaped structures and size-dependent packages with long-range channels. The macrocycles exhibit unique photophysical properties with high fluorescence quantum yield of up to 82%, and the fluorescent color varies with ring size. In addition, size-dependent chiroptical properties with moderately large CPL dissymmetry factor of 10 -3 and CPL brightness in the range of 30 - 40 M -1 cm -1 were observed.

Abstract
Chirality generation and transfer is not only of critical importance in resolving the origin of biological homochirality, but also is of great significance for exploring the chirality-related functionalities in nanomaterials and supramolecular systems. Although modulating the ground state chirality in chiral nanomaterials has been widely demonstrated, it remains a big challenge to steer the excited state chirality (circularly polarized luminescence, CPL). Herein, we present a kind of chiral spherical micelles constructed by chiral cationic gemini surfactants, whose surfaces and cavities could co-assemble with hydrophilic and hydrophobic emitters concurrently. Subsequently, the hydrophilic and hydrophobic emitters could be endowed with CPL activity in the aqueous phase. Additionally, the cavities of such micelles can be regarded as the powerful chiral confined space, which could effectively modulate the excited state chirality of dynamic chemical reactions, enabling color-adjustable CPL emission.

Abstract
Here, we propose a mechanically interlocked strategy to achieve a 2D chiral polyrotaxane (2D CPR) monolayer with emergent and steerable CPL activity by utilizing β-cyclodextrin as the chiral wheel and a luminescent dynamic covalent organic framework as 2D polymeric axle. Such methodology, integrating host-guest and dynamic covalent chemistry, enabled the direct construction of a delaminated 2D CPR monolayer with extraordinarily large size (up to tens of micrometers) and simultaneously endowed chirality to the extended 2D CPR network to generate CPL activity. Importantly, not only the structure but also the CPL performance of the 2D CPR network can be further regulated by the feeding amount of β-cyclodextrin. This work demonstrated a monolayered 2D CPR with CPL activity for the first time. The insightful structure-property relationship of the induced CPL will be of benefit for a deeper understanding of the excited-state chirality of 2D chiral nanomaterials.

Abstract
Chiral covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) are intriguing as advanced chiroptical materials but have not been reported to date. We constructed chiroptical COF materials with CPL activity through the convenient Knoevenagel condensation of formyl-functionalized axially chiral linkers and C3-symmetric 1,3,5-benzenetriacetonitrile. Remarkably, the as-prepared chiral COFs showed high absorption and luminescent dissymmetric factors up to 0.02 (gabs ) and 0.04 (glum ), respectively. In contrast, the branched chiral polymers from the same starting monomers were CPL silent. Structural and spectral characterization revealed that the reticular frame was indispensable for CPL generation via confined chirality transfer. Moreover, reticular stacking boosted the CPL performance significantly due to the interlayer restriction of frame. This work demonstrates the first example of a CPL-active COF and provides insight into CPL generation through covalent reticular chemistry, which will play a constructive role in the future design of high-performance CPL materials.
