Abstract
Herein, a versatile highly regioselective three-component annulation of simple aromatic ketones and methylamines using a hypervalent iodine reagent for polyarylated 1-pyrrolines has been described in good to excellent yields. Meanwhile, unsymmetrical 1-pyrroline isomers could be realized and synthesized. Such an intriguing one-pot two-step tandem assembly strategy with green conditions and high regioselectivity shows predictable inspiration in related annulation reactions.

Abstract
Herein, hypervalent iodine-catalyzed halogenation of aryl-activated alkenes using BX3 (X = Cl, Br) as the halogen source and activating reagents was reported. Various halogenated 1,3-oxazine/2-oxazoline derivatives were obtained in good-to-high yields. Using BF3 resulted in different substitute sites from BBr3 and BCl3 of the products, indicating different reactive intermediates and reaction pathways. The reaction underwent a "ligand coupling/oxidative addition/intermolecular nucleophilic attack/1,2-aryl migration/reductive elimination/intramolecular nucleophilic attack" cascade when BF3 was applied as the halogen source, while 1,2-aryl migration has "disappeared" when the halogen source was BBr3 or BCl3. Possible catalytic cycles were proposed, and DFT calculations were conducted to demonstrate the differences among BX3 (X = F, Cl, Br) in the hypervalent iodine-catalyzed halogenations.

Abstract
A systematic investigation of imidazo- and pyrazoloiodazinium salts is presented. Besides a robust synthetic protocol that allowed us to synthesize these novel cyclic iodonium salts in their mono- and dicationic forms, we gained in-depth structural information through single-crystal analysis and demonstrated the ring opening of the heterocycle-bridged iodonium species. For an exclusive set of dicationic imidazoiodaziniums, we show highly delicate post-oxidation functionalizations retaining the hypervalent iodine center.

Abstract
Hypervalent iodine catalyst-catalyzed nucleophilic fluorination of unsaturated amides using BF3·Et2O as the fluorine source and activating reagent was reported. Various 5-fluoro-2-oxazoline derivatives were synthesized in good to excellent yields (up to 95% isolated yield) within 10 min. The process was efficient and metal-free under mild conditions. A mechanism involving a fluorination/1,2-aryl migration/cyclization cascade was proposed on the basis of previous work and experimental results.

Abstract
Xanthene derivatives have broad applications in medicines, fluorescent probes, dyes, food additives, etc. Therefore, much attention was focused on developing the synthetic methods to prepare these compounds. Binaphthyl‐based xanthene derivatives were prepared through the oxidation of BINOLs promoted by the hypervalent iodine reagent iodosylbenzene (PhIO). Nine‐membered lactones were obtained through a similar oxidative reaction when iodoxybenzene (PhIO2) was used. Additionally, one‐pot reactions of BINOLs, PhIO and nucleophiles such as alcohols and amines were also investigated to provide alkoxylated products and amides in good to excellent yields.

Abstract
1,2-Diols are extremely useful building blocks in organic synthesis. Hypervalent iodine reagents are useful for the vicinal dihydroxylation of olefins to give 1,2-diols under metal-free conditions, but strongly acidic promoters are often required. Herein, we report a catalytic vicinal dioxygenation of olefins with hypervalent iodine reagents using Lewis bases as catalysts. The conditions are mild and compatible with various functional groups.

Abstract
A simple synthesis of a library of novel C−N axially chiral iodoarenes is achieved in a three‐step synthesis from commercially available aniline derivatives. C−N axial chiral iodine reagents are rarely investigated in the hypervalent iodine arena. The potential of the novel chiral iodoarenes as organocatalysts for stereoselective oxidative transformations is assessed using the well explored, but challenging stereoselective α‐oxytosylation of ketones. All investigated reagents catalyse the stereoselective oxidation of propiophenone to the corresponding chiral α‐oxytosylated products with good stereochemical control. Using the optimised reaction conditions a wide range of products was obtained in generally good to excellent yields and with good enantioselectivities.

Abstract
An enantioselective catalytic synthesis of α-acetoxylated ketones through I(I)/I(III) catalysis using a resorcinol/lactamide-based chiral iodoarene is reported. Catalyst turnover by in situ generation of the active iodine(III) derivative is achieved by oxidation with mCPBA in the presence of acetic acid. The prior transformation of ketones to easily accessible acetyl enol ethers is beneficial and yields up to 97 % with enantioselectivities up to 88 % ee are obtained using only low catalyst loadings of only 5 mol % under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
Reactions of difluoroiodotoluene with NH‐sulfoximines provide new hypervalent iodine(III) reagents, which photocatalytically transfer a fluoro and a sulfoximidoyl group onto styrenes with high regioselectivity. The substrate scope is broad with respect to both sulfoximines and olefins. Following an operationally simple protocol, a large library of fluorine‐containing N‐functionalized sulfoximines can be accessed. Results from mechanistic investigations revealed the importance of radical intermediates.

Abstract
In contrast to aryliodine(III) compounds, which have matured into a particularly attractive class of oxidants in modern synthesis, the synthetic potential of related alkyliodine(III) derivatives has remained widely underestimated. This is surprising since several unique synthetic possibilities arise directly from the low stability of their central carbon-iodine bond. In this respect, these high-oxidation-state iodine compounds resemble environmentally benign variants of the prominent metal counterparts such as those derived from palladium, nickel and copper. This Concept article summarizes the general reactivity trends in alkyliodine(III) chemistry and discusses selected examples of their strategic use as highly reactive, transient species in organic synthesis and homogeneous catalysis.

Abstract
A new class of chiral oxidants is developed. These readily accessible oxidants contain a nitro group for oxidation and a chiral sulfonamide moiety for stereoselectivity control. The chiral information from the oxidants can effectively transfer to the substrates in carbene-catalyzed β-hydroxylation of enals via single-electron-transfer radical processes. We expect these oxidants to find unique applications in other asymmetric oxidations and oxygen-atom-transferring reactions.

Abstract
2,6-Disubstituted iodoarenes bearing amide-functionalized side arms are reported as new structures in redox-active iodine(I/III) catalysis. In combination with bis-sulfonimides as nitrogen sources and 3-chloroperbenzoic acid (mCPBA) as benign terminal oxidant they catalyze the vicinal diamination of styrenes. The obtained reactivity and selectivity outperform other iodoarene catalyst candidates. This protocol provides a sustainable alternative to previous related protocols for diamination that are based on stoichiometric iodine(III) reagents.

Abstract
Most of the polyvalent organoiodine compounds derive from iodoarenes, which are released in stoichiometric amounts in any reaction mediated by λ3- or λ5-iodanes. In parallel to the development of solid-supported reagents or reactions catalytic in iodine, a third strategy has emerged to address this issue in terms of sustainability. The atom-economy of transformations involving stoichiometric amounts of λ3- or λ5-iodanes, thus, has been improved by designing tandem reactions that allows for incorporating the aryl motif into the products through a subsequent one-pot nucleophilic addition or catalytic coupling reaction. This review summarizes the main achievements reported in this area.

Abstract
Treatment of NH-sulfoximines with pseudocyclic benziodoxole triflate results in N-I bond formation leading to a new type of sulfoximidoyl-containing hypervalent iodine(III) reagents in high yields. Degradation studies revealed a pronounced stability in both the solid state and in solution.

Abstract
A one-pot two-step degradation of lignin β-O-4 model compounds initiated by preferred oxidation of the primary over the secondary hydroxyl groups with a TEMPO/DAIB system has been developed [TEMPO=2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl, DAIB=(diacetoxy)iodobenzene]. The oxidised products are then cleaved by proline-catalysed retro-aldol reactions. This degradation methodology produces simple aromatics in good yields from lignin model compounds at room temperature with an extension to organosolv beech-wood lignin (L1) resulting in known cleavage products.

Abstract
A photochemical catalytic amination of arenes is presented. The reaction proceeds under benign iodine catalysis in the presence of visible light as the initiator and provides access to a range of differently substituted arylamines. A total of 29 examples demonstrate the broad applicability of this mild oxidation method. The scope of the reaction could further be expanded to silyl-tethered derivatives, which undergo intramolecular amination upon formation of seven-membered heterocycles. Cleavage of the silicon tether provides access to the corresponding 3-substituted anilines.
