Abstract
![]()
This work aimed to
investigate the interaction of bovine serum
albumin with newly synthesized potent new pyrene derivatives (PS1
and PS2), which might prove useful to have a better antibacterial
character as found for similar compounds in the previous report [Low et al. Bioconjugate Chemistry2014, 12, 2269−2284]. However, to date, binding studies with
plasma protein are still unknown. Steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy
and lifetime fluorescence studies show that the static interaction
binding mode and binding constants of PS1 and PS2 are 7.39 and 7.81
[Kb × 105 (M–1)], respectively. The experimental results suggest that hydrophobic
forces play a crucial role in interacting pyrene derivatives with
BSA protein. To verify this, molecular docking and molecular dynamics
simulations were performed to predict the nature of the interaction
and the dynamic behavior of the two compounds in the BSA complex,
PS1 and PS2, under physiological conditions of pH = 7.1. In addition,
the free energies of binding for the BSA-PS1 and BSA-PS2 complexes
were estimated at 300 K based on the molecular mechanics of the Poisson–Boltzmann
surface (MMPBSA) with the Gromacs package. PS2 was found to have a
higher binding affinity than PS1. To determine the behavior of the
orbital transitions in the ground state geometry, we found that both
compounds have similar orbital transitions from HOMO–LUMO via
π → π* and HOMO–1–LUMO+1 via n →
π*, which was included in the FMO analysis. A cytotoxicity study
was performed to determine the toxicity of the compounds. Based on
the MD study, the stability of the compounds with BSA and the dynamic
binding modes were further revealed, as well as the nature of the
binding force components involved and the important residues involved
in the binding process. From the binding energy analysis, it can be
assumed that PS2 may be more active than PS1.

Abstract
The title compound, C28H24N2O3, is a flexible Schiff base, having a dihedral angle of 59.53 (5)° between the mean planes of two phenyl rings bounded in the centre by a single O atom. The dihedral angles between the mean planes of the phenyl rings bonded to the central O atom and the mean planes of the terminal methyl-phenol rings are 31.47 (6) and 36.03 (5)°, respectively. The sp2-hybridized character of the azanylylidene groups is confirmed by their bond lengths and bond angles. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into centrosymmetric dimers by weak C-H⋯N inter-actions and connected into dimeric chains through weak C-H⋯O inter-actions. These chains are inter-connected into a two-dimensional network parallel to (1[Formula: see text]1) via weak C-H⋯π inter-actions.

Abstract
The metal complexes of 4-ethyl-1-(2-hydroxybenzoyl) thiosemicarbazide (L(1)) with MCl2 (M=Co(2+), Cu(2+) and Zn(2+)) and Zn(Ac)2 in EtOH were synthesized and characterized using spectral (IR, (1)H-NMR, mass, UV-Visible), magnetic moment and thermal measurements. Binary and ternary complexes with the general formulae, [Cu(L(1)-H)2]·EtOH, [Co(L(1)-H)2], [Zn3(L(1)-H)(L(1))(Ac)5], [Cu2(L(2))2(L(1)-2H)2(H2O)2]·4H2O, [Co(L(2))(L(1)-2H)]·3H2O and [Zn2(L(2))(OH)(L(1)-3H)(H2O)]·1/2EtOH where L(2) is 2,2'-dipyridyl, have been suggested and characterized. The bond lengths, bond angles, chemical reactivates, energy components, binding energies and dipole moments for the isolated complexes were evaluated by DFT method from DMOL(3). Also, the MEP for L(1) is illustrated. The existence of the OH group in the Zn(2+) ternary complexes is confirmed by IR, mass and (1)H-NMR spectra. Biological activity for the L(1) and some its complexes was tested against DNA. Comparative studies between the ligation behavior and reactivity of our previous work derived from 4-phenyl- and 4-allyl-1-(2-hydroxybenzoyl) thiosemicarbazides have been investigated.

Abstract
New metal complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Pd(II) and Hg(II) with 2,3-butanedione isonicotinylhydrazone [BINH] have been prepared and investigated. Single crystal for BINH is grown and solved as orthorhombic with P 21 21 2 space group. The formula of the ligand was assigned based on the elemental analysis, mass spectra and conductivity measurements. The complexes assigned the formulae [M(BINH-H)Cl]⋅nH2O (MCo(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II); n=0 or 1); [Hg(BINH-H)(H2O)2Cl]; [Cd(BINH)Cl2]⋅2H2O and [Pd(BINH)Cl2]⋅H2O. All complexes are nonelectrolytes. BINH acts as a tridentate ligand in [M(BINH-H)Cl]⋅nH2O and [Hg(BINH-H)(H2O)2Cl] coordinating through COketonic, COamedic and CNhy and as a neutral bidentate through COketonic and CNhy in [Cd(BINH)Cl2]⋅2H2O and [Pd(BINH)Cl2]⋅H2O; the pyridine nitrogen has no rule in coordination. The data are supported by NMR ((1)H and (13)C) spectra. The magnetic moments and electronic spectra provide a tetrahedral structure for the Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes; square-planar for the Pd(II) complex and octahedral for the Hg(II) complex. The TGA of the complexes depicted the outer and inner water molecules as well as the final residue. The cobalt and cadmium complexes ended with the metal while the Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pd(II) complexes ended with complex species. [Hg(BINH-H)(H2O)2Cl] has no residue. The ligand is inactive against all tested organisms except for Bacillus thuringiensis. The Hg(II) complex is found more active than the other complexes. The flotation technique is found applicable for the separation of micro amount (10ppm) of Zr(4+) using 10ppm of BINH and 1×10(-5)molL(-1) of oleic acid at pH 6 with efficiency of 98% with no interferences.

Abstract
Metal complexes of the chloride, nitrate and acetate salts of Co(II), Ni(II) Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) or Hg(II) with 2,3-butanedione bis(isonicotinylhydrazone) [BBINH] have been synthesized and structurally characterized. The crystal of BBINH was solved to crystallize as monoclinic system with space group of P121/c14. The formulae of the complexes were assigned based on the elemental analysis and mass spectra. The formation of BBINH complexes depend on the metal anion used. All complexes are nonelectrolytes except for the complexes 2, 3, 4 are (1:1) and 13 and 14 which are 1:2 electrolytes. BBINH behaves as a neutral tetradentate (N2O2) in the chloride complexes of Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II). In [Co2(BBINH)(H2O)Cl3]Cl⋅H2O, BBINH has the same dentate but with the two Co(II) ions. In the acetate complexes, [Ni2(BBINH-2H)(H2O)2(OAc)2]⋅3H2O and [Cu2(BBINH-2H)(OAc)2]⋅5H2O, BBINH acts as a binegative tetradentate with the two metal ions. The ligand in the nitrate complexes acts as a neutral bidentate via the two hydrazone azomethine C=NHy; the nitrate ions are ionic in the Cd(II) and Zn(II) complexes and covalent in the Ni(II) complex. The data are supported by NMR ((1)H and (13)C) spectra. The magnetic moments and electronic spectra of all complexes provide tetrahedral, square planar and/or octahedral structure. The decomposition of the complexes revealed the outer and inner solvents as well as the remaining residue based on TGA. The complexes have variable activities against some bacteria and fungi. The ligand is inactive against all tested organisms. The activity of Cd(II) and Hg(II) may be related to the geometry of the complexes.

Single crystal of Pd(II) has been solved to be cis-form of square-planar geometry by the X-ray crystallography. 1H and 13C NMR spectra have been recorded for HBTS, Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes, in DMSO-d6, showing the mode of chelation. The ligand acts as a neutral or a binegative tetradentate (N2S2) or neutral bidentate on the basis of FT-IR. The magnetic moments and electronic spectra provide information about the geometry of the complexes which supported by calculating the ligand field parameters for the Co(II) and Fe(III) complexes. The Ni(II) complex has subnormal magnetic moment (0.71 BM) indicative of a mixed stereochemistry of square-planar and tetrahedral structure. [Cu(HBTS-2H)] measured 0.93 BM indicating high interaction between the copper centers. The ligand may be ordered at the top of the spectrochemical series which giving high ligand field splitting energy (10 Dq=17,900 cm(-1) for Co2+ complex). The mass spectra of some complexes proved their stable chemical formulae while the TGA depicts the degradation steps and the final residue. In evaporating the mother liquor during the preparation of HBTS, new compound is obtained naming 1-(2,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-yl)thiourea and its crystal was solved.

Abstract
New bis (pyridylurea) ligand, H2L, was synthesized by the reaction of ethylpyridine-2-carbamate (EPC) and p-phenylenediamine. The ligand was characterized by elemental analysis, IR, (1)H NMR, electronic and mass spectra. Reaction of the prepared ligand with Co(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Fe(3+), VO(2+) and UO2(2+) ions afforded mono, bi- and trinuclear metal complexes. Also, new mixed ligand complexes of the ligand H2L and 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) with Co(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+) and Fe(3+) ions were synthesized. The ligand behaves as bi- and tetradentate toward the transition metal ions, coordination via the pyridine N, the carbonyl O and/or the amidic N atoms in a non, mono- and bis-deprotonated form. The complexes were characterized by elemental and thermal analyses, IR, electronic and mass spectra as well as conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The results showed that the metal complexes exhibited different geometrical arrangements such as square planar, tetrahedral, octahedral and square pyramidal arrangements. The Coats-Redfern equation was used to calculate the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for the different thermal decomposition steps of some complexes. 3D molecular modeling of the ligand, H2L and a representative complex were studied.

Abstract
New VO(2+), Mn(2+), Co(2+), Ni(2+) Cu(2+) and Zn(2+) complexes of 2,5-hexanedione bis(isonicotinylhydrazone) [H(2)L] have been synthesized and characterized. The analyses confirmed the formulae: [VO(L)].H(2)O, [Mn(2)(H(2)L)Cl(2)(H(2)O)(6)]Cl(2), [Co(L)(H(2)O)(2)].2H(2)O, [Ni(HL)(OAc)].H(2)O, [Cu(L)(H(2)O)(2)].2H(2)O, [Cu(L)].2H(2)O and [Zn(L)(H(2)O)(2)]. The formulae of [Ni(HL)(OAc)].H(2)O, [Zn(L)(H(2)O)(2)] and [Mn(2)(H(2)L)Cl(2)(H(2)O)(6)]Cl(2), are supported by mass spectra. The molecular modeling of H(2)L is drawn and showed intramolecular hydrogen bonding. The ligand releases two protons during reaction from the two amide groups (NHCO) and behaves as a binegative tetradentate (N(2)O(2)); good evidence comes from the (1)H NMR spectrum of [Zn(L)(H(2)O)(2)]. The ligand has a buffering range 10-12 and pK's of 4.62, 7.78 and 9.45. The magnetic moments and electronic spectra of all complexes provide a square-planar for [Cu(L)].2H(2)O, square-pyramidal for [VO(L)].H(2)O and octahedral for the rest. The ESR spectra support the mononuclear geometry for [VO(L)].H(2)O and [Cu(L)(H(2)O)(2)].2H(2)O. The thermal decomposition of the complexes revealed the outer and inner solvents where the end product in most cases is metal oxide.

Abstract
The condensation products of acetophenone (or its derivatives), salicylaldehyde and o-hydroxy-p-methoxybenzophenone with thiosemicarbazide and ethyl- or phenyl-thiosemicarbazide are the investigated thiosemicarbazones. Their reactions with H(2)PtCl(6) produced Pt(IV) complexes characterized by elemental, thermal, mass, IR and electronic spectral studies. The coordination modes were found mononegative bidentate in the acetophenone derivatives and binegative tridentate in the salicylaldehyde derivatives. The complexes were analyzed thermogravimetrically and found highly stable. Some ligands and their complexes were screened against Sarcina sp. and E. coli using the cup-diffusion technique. [Pt(oHAT)(OH)Cl] shows higher activity against E. coli than the other compounds. The degradation power of the tested compounds on the calf thymus DNA supports their selectivity against bacteria and not against the human or related eukaryotic organisms.

Abstract
Several complexes of thiosemicarbazone derivatives with Ni(II) have been prepared. Structural investigation of the ligands and their complexes has been made based on elemental analysis, magnetic moment, spectral (UV-Vis, i.r., (1)H NMR, ms), and thermal studies. The i.r. spectra suggest the bidentate mononegative and tridentate (neutral, mono-, and binegative) behavior of the ligands. Different stereochemistries were suggested for the isolated complexes. The thermogravimetry (TG) and derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) have been used to study the thermal decomposition and kinetic parameters of some ligands and complexes using the Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger equations. The redox properties and stability of the complexes toward oxidation waves explored by cyclic voltammetry are related to the electron withdrawing or releasing ability of the substituent of thiosemicarbazone moiety. The samples displayed Ni(II)/Ni(I) couples irreversible waves associated with Ni(III)/Ni(II) process.
