Abstract
Motivated by recent study on synthesized N, N-diphenylaniline (DPA)-based dyes [DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.solener.2022.01.062 ] for use in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), we theoretically design several dyes and explore their potential for enhancing the efficiency of DSSCs. Our designed dyes are based on the molecular structure of synthesized DPA-azo-A and DPA-azo-N dyes with a donor-π-bridge-acceptor (D-π-A) framework. In this research, we aim to develop the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of DSSCs by fine-tuning the molecular structure of the synthesized dyes. To this end, we focus on designing dyes by replacing the units of DPA-azo-A and DPA-azo-N with a variety of donor, π-bridge, and acceptor. Hence the density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations are done to explore their structure, electronic, optical, charge transport, and photovoltaic properties. Among all newly designed and reference dyes, the D3-azo-N and DPA-π3-N dyes which are designed by substituting the donor (DPA) and π-bridge (azo) units of DPA-azo-N with D3 and π3, respectively exhibit the highest PCE of 45.46% (for D3-azo-N) and 43.20% (for DPA-π3-N) and can be favorable dyes for improving the efficiency of DSSCs. Therefore, the dyes that are designed by substituting the donor and π-bridge units of synthesized dyes have more impact on improving the efficiency of DSSCs than those that involve replacing the acceptor units. Consequently, our theoretical findings will provide valuable insights for the experimentalists to employ these novel effective dyes and boost the performance of DSSCs.

Abstract
A straightforward and efficient methodology has been employed for the synthesis of a diverse set of base-modified fluorescent nucleoside conjugates via Cu(I)-catalysed cycloaddition reaction of 5-ethynyl-2',3',5'-tri-O-acetyluridine/3',5'-di-O-acetyl-2'-deoxyuridine with 4-(azidomethyl)-N9-(4'-aryl)-9,10-dihydro-2H,8H-chromeno[8,7-e][1,3]oxazin-2-ones in tBuOH to afford the desired 1,2,3-triazoles in 92-95% yields. Treatment with NaOMe/MeOH resulted in the final deprotected nucleoside analogues. The synthesized 1,2,3-triazoles demonstrated a significant emission spectrum, featuring two robust bands in the region from 350-500 nm (with excitation at 300 nm) in fluorescence studies. Photophysical investigations revealed a dual-emissive band with high fluorescence intensity, excellent Stokes shift (140-164 nm) and superior quantum yields (0.068-0.350). Furthermore, the electronic structures of the synthesized triazoles have been further verified by DFT studies. Structural characterization of all synthesized compounds was carried out using various analytical techniques, including IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, 1H-1H COSY, 1H-13C HETCOR experiments, and HRMS measurements. The dual-emissive nature of these nucleosides would be a significant contribution to nucleoside chemistry as there are limited literature reports on the same.

Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are performed on the newly developed and designed photosensitizers having [D-D-triad-A]- and [D-π-π-A]-type structural models for near-infrared absorption dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). For this purpose, three novel molecules are designed, which are named as follows: [naphthalene-anthracene-thiophene-furan-benzonitrile] as dye S1, [coronene-anthracene-thiophene-furan-benzonitrile] as dye S2, and [fluorene-thiophene-furan-benzonitrile] as dye S3. In all three systems, benzonitrile is the acceptor moiety, while thiophene and furan are bridging moieties. Naphthalene and anthracene are donor moieties in S1, whereas coronene and anthracene are donor moieties in S2, and fluorene is the only single donor moiety used for designing the dye complex S3. All three dye complexes are optimized under the DFT framework by using the B3LYP hybrid functional with 6-31G(d,p) basis set on Gaussian 16W software. The absorption spectra are calculated utilizing time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) with the CAM-B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) basis set. The calculated absorption maxima of S1 and S2 are 749.45 and 750.04 nm, respectively, while for S3, it is reported to be at 337.35 nm, which suggests that the designed molecular structure having a double-donor moiety is suitable for high absorption wavelength. Further, the analysis of frontier molecular orbital energy gap suggests that the molecular systems S1, S2, and S3 have values 2.17, 2.13, and 3.618 eV, respectively, which lie in the semiconducting region. The other parameters calculated for the photovoltaic performance are exciton binding energy, change in free energy of charge regeneration, change in free energy of charge injection, oscillator strength, light harvesting efficiency, and open-circuit voltage.

Abstract
The modulation of molecular characteristics in metal-free organic dyes holds significant importance in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The D-π-A molecular design, based on the furan moiety (π) in the conjugated spacer between the arylamine (D) and the 2-cyanoacrylic acid (A), was developed and theoretically evaluated for its potential application in DSSCs. Utilizing linear response time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) with the CAM-B3LYP functional, different donor and acceptor groups were characterized in terms of the electronic absorption properties of these dyes. All the studied dye sensitizers demonstrate the ability to inject electrons into the semiconductor's conduction band (TiO2) and undergo regeneration through the redox potential triiodide/iodide (I3-/I-) electrode. TDDFT results indicate that the dyes with CSSH anchoring groups exhibit improved optoelectronic properties compared to other dyes. Further, the photophysical properties of all dyes absorbed on a Ti(OH)4 model were explored and reported. The observed results indicate that bidentate chemisorption occurs between dyes and TiO4H5. Furthermore, the HOMO-LUMO energy gaps for almost all dye complexes are significantly smaller than those of the free dyes. This decrease of the HOMO-LUMO energy gaps in the dye complexes facilitates electron excitation, and thus more photons can be adsorbed, guaranteeing larger values of efficiency and short-circuit current density.

Abstract
Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have drawn a significant interest due to their low production cost, light weight, better flexibility in design, and better tunability. Herein, two metal free organic dyes based on donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) type architecture having methoxy substituted triphenyl amine (TPA) and methyl substituted indoline(IND) as the donor units, cyanoacrylic acid (CA) as the acceptor unit, and 8H-thieno [2', 3':4,5]thieno[3,2-b]thieno[2,3-d]pyrrole (TTP) unit as π-bridge are successfully designed for fabrication of DSSCs. To tune the optical properties, structural engineering has been carried out at the TTP unit via substituting different +I groups, viz., -H, -CH3, -OCH3, -CH2CH2, -SH, and -OH and different -I groups viz. -CF3, -COCH3, -COOH and -CN. Various structural, electronic and optical parameters are calculated for the designed dyes. Our study reveals that dyes substituted with electron withdrawing groups possess lower ΔH-L values for both TPA-CA and IND-CA groups of dyes. Moreover, the ESOP and GSOP values of all the dyes confirm the spontaneity of the electron injection and dye regeneration processes with respect to the conduction band of the TiO2 surface and redox potential of the I-/I3- redox couple. The absorption properties also manifest the red shift behavior of the designed dyes. Further, from the study of the structural and electronic properties of the dye-Ti5O10 clusters it is evident that the performance of the dyes get increased upon binding to the TiO2 surface. Hence, our study provides a good recommendation for further designing of dyes to enhance the performance of DSSCs.

Abstract
Eight novel metal-free organic sensitizers were proposed for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), theoretically calculated and studied via density functional theory with D-π-A structure. These proposals were formed to study the effect of novel π-bridges, using carbazole as the donor group and cyanoacrylic acid as the anchorage group. Through the M06/6-31G(d) level of theory, ground state geometry optimization, vibrational frequencies, the highest occupied molecular orbital, the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital, and their energy levels were calculated. Further, chemical reactivity parameters were obtained and analyzed, such as chemical hardness (η), electrophilicity index (ω), electroaccepting power (ω+) and electrodonating power (ω-). Free energy of electron injection (ΔGinj) and light-harvesting efficiency (LHE) also were calculated and discussed. On the other hand, absorption wavelengths, oscillator strengths, and electron transitions were calculated through time-dependent density functional theory with the M06-2X/6-31G(d) level of theory. In conclusion, the inclusion of thiophene groups and the Si heteroatom in the π-bridge improved charge transfer, chemical stability, and other optoelectronic properties of carbazole-based dyes.

Abstract
Ten molecules were theoretically calculated and studied through density functional theory with the M06 density functional and the 6-31G(d) basis set. The molecular systems have potential applications as sensitizers for dye-sensitized solar cells. Three molecules were taken from the literature, and seven are proposals inspired in the above, including the azomethine group in the π-bridge expecting a better charge transfer. These molecular structures are composed of triphenylamine (donor part); different combinations of azomethine, thiophene, and benzene derivatives (π-bridge); and cyanoacrylic acid (acceptor part). This study focused on the effect that the azomethine group caused on the π-bridge. Ground-state geometry optimization, the highest occupied molecular orbital, the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital, and their energy levels were obtained and analyzed. Absorption wavelengths, oscillator strengths, and electron transitions were obtained via time-dependent density functional theory using the M06-2X density functional and the 6-31G(d) basis set. The free energy of electron injection (ΔGinj) was calculated and analyzed. As an important part of this study, chemical reactivity parameters are discussed, such as chemical hardness, electrodonating power, electroaccepting power, and electrophilicity index. In conclusion, the inclusion of azomethine in the π-bridge improved the charge transfer and the electronic properties of triphenylamine-based dyes.

Abstract
In this paper, six organic dyes have been studied by density functional theory (DFT). The electron-acceptor group is the cyanoacrylic acid unit for all sensitisers, and the electron-donor unit is a phenothiazine (PTZ) fragment substituted by an ethynyl-pyrene unit; the π-linker was varied, and the influence was investigated. The dye bearing the divinylthiophene linker showed the highest absorption maximum. The theoretical photovoltaic properties revealed that the overall efficiency of the solar cell could be remarkably improved using the designed dyes. The results indicated that all of the studied organic dyes are good candidates as photosensitisers for dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSCs).

Abstract
We present a method based on a time-dependent self-consistent density functional tight-binding (TD-DFTB) approach, able to predict the quantum efficiency of the photoinjection process in a dye-TiO2 complex from a fully atomistic picture. We studied the process of charge transfer of three systems with different dyes: catechol (CAT), alizarin (ALZ) and FSD101. Each system was excited with lasers of different energies in the range of 300-2500 nm, studying the efficiency of the induced charge transfer process at the incident energies. We show that the perturbation can produce either hole transfer or electron transfer from the dye to the nanoparticle, therefore affecting the efficiency of the charge transfer in the solar cell when illuminated by broadband radiation.
