Abstract
Acetylferulic paeonol ester (APE) and ferulic paeonol ester (FPE) were synthesized, and their structures were confirmed by NMR, mass spectra, IR and UV-vis data. The antioxidant properties of the synthesized compounds were evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and [(2-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline)-6 -sulfonic acid] (ABTS) assay as well as the production of oxidation products (peroxides, conjugated dienes, thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances, free fatty acids and total aldehydes) in an elevated temperature (60 °C) storage trial of fish oil extracted from anchovy. Furthermore, the changes in fatty acid composition were monitored by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results showed that APE was more effective in restraining fish oil oxidation compared to FPE, ferulic acid, paeonol and the commercial antioxidant-butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). This study demonstrated molecular combinations obtained by covalent bonding two antioxidant active molecules can result in novel compounds with enhanced antioxidant activities.

Abstract
The present paper deals with the electrochemical behavior of three types of sensors based on modified screen-printed electrodes (SPEs): a sensor based on carbon nanofibers (CNF/SPE), a sensor based on nanofibers of carbon modified with gold nanoparticles (CNF-GNP/SPE) and a biosensor based on nanofibers of carbon modified with gold nanoparticles and tyrosinase (CNF-GNP-Ty/SPE). To prepare the biosensor, the tyrosinase (Ty) was immobilized on the surface of the electrode already modified with carbon nanofibers and gold nanoparticles, by the drop-and-dry technique. The electrochemical properties of the three electrodes were studied by cyclic voltammetry in electroactive solutions, and the position and shape of the active redox peaks are according to the nature of the materials modifying the electrodes. In the case of ferulic acid, a series of characteristic peaks were observed, the processes being more intense for the biosensor, with the higher sensitivity and selectivity being due to the immobilization of tyrosinase, a specific enzyme for phenolic compounds. The calibration curve was subsequently created using CNF-GNP-Ty/SPE in ferulic acid solutions of various concentrations in the range 0.1-129.6 μM. This new biosensor allowed low values of the detection threshold and quantification limit, 2.89 × 10-9 mol·L-1 and 9.64 × 10-9 mol·L-1, respectively, which shows that the electroanalytical method is feasible for quantifying ferulic acid in real samples. The ferulic acid was quantitatively determined in three cosmetic products by means of the CNF-GNP-Ty/SPE biosensor. The results obtained were validated by means of the spectrometric method in the infrared range, the differences between the values of the ferulic acid concentrations obtained by the two methods being under 5%.

Abstract
Ferulic acid (FA), an important phenolic acid, is widely distributed in higher plants and presents many pharmacological effects. Therefore, sensitive determination of FA in complex matrix is necessary. Molecularly imprinted polymers-coated CdTe quantum dots (CdTe-QDs@MIPs) exhibited incomparable advantages because of their combination of excellent selectivity of MIPs and high sensitivity of QDs. Here, a fluorescent probe based on CdTe-QDs@MIPs was successfully fabricated for selective and sensitive determination of FA. MIPs shell was obtained by the reverse microemulsion method using FA, 3-(aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES), and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), as template, functional monomer, and crosslinker. In optimal conditions, the fluorescence CdTe-QDs@MIPs sensor exhibited fast response (within only 3 min), high sensitivity (limit of detection, LOD at 0.85 μg/l), excellent linear ranges (2-100 μg/l) with a correlation coefficient of 0.9996, and distinguished selectivity for FA. Satisfactory recoveries from 91.8% to 110.3% were achieved with precisions below 6.6% for FA analysis in real pineapple juice and apple juice by developed CdTe-QDs@MIPs. The fluorescence results coincided well with those obtained by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). It could be concluded that the resultant CdTe-QDs@MIPs offered a new way for rapid and sensitive analysis of FA in the complex matrix.

Abstract
The reaction between diperiodatoargentate(III) (DPA) and folic acid (FA) produced weak chemiluminescence (CL) in acid medium, which was greatly enhanced in the presence of copper nanoclusters (CuNCs). The CL intensity of CuNCs-DPA-FA system increased with the concentration of FA ranging from 0.1 to 10.0 μM. The proposed CL system was applied for the detection of FA in pharmaceutical formulation and human urine samples. Further, the CL signal of CuNCs-DPA-FA system was inhibited by nitrite, and the inhibited CL intensity was proportional to the nitrite concentration in the range of 1.0-80.0 μM. The method was successfully applied to determine nitrite in water, pickled vegetable and sausage samples. A possible CL mechanism was briefly discussed.
