Abstract
Purpose: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer have special care needs that are different from those of children and older adults with cancer. This study assessed the perspective and experience of AYAs with cancer in South Korea to identify their care needs. Methods: This study used a convergent mixed-methods design. From July 2020 to November 2021, AYAs with cancer (N = 77; 15-39 years of age) participated in a quantitative cross-sectional study, using a tool developed by our study team. In May 2021, a qualitative focus group was conducted with 10 AYAs with cancer. Integrated analyses were conducted concurrently by reporting the quantitative and qualitative findings together. Results: Quantitative findings revealed that the highest care need domains were communication and information, whereas the highest care priority item was the management of pain and symptoms occurring during the treatment. Qualitative findings revealed 12 themes across 5 domains. Comparing and merging of the quantitative and qualitative data resulted in eight confirmed themes and four expanded findings, including knowing people who overcame similar illnesses, fear of death, dedicated space, and a program for AYAs with cancer. Conclusion: When developing and implementing programs and health care services, especially in countries with no established program or cancer specialty unit for AYAs with cancer, it is important to consider the special care needs and priorities of AYAs with cancer. This mixed methods study provided empirical evidence to help understand and prioritize the needs of AYAs with cancer undergoing active treatment in South Korea.

Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Epidemiology in Children From 2 Socioeconomic Regions in Mexico: 20-Year Registry (1996-2015). J Pediatr Hematol Oncol 2020; 42:292-298. Abstract
PURPOSE We analyzed the epidemiologic characteristics of different types of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL), excluding Burkitt Lymphoma, in 2 Mexican regions with different socioeconomic status. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this surveillance study, we analyzed the incidence rates (cases per million children/year) of different types of NHL according to the ICCC3, registered in 1996-2015, from 2 different socioeconomic regions in Mexico: central and southern, with higher and lower status, respectively. RESULTS The principal NHL subgroups were precursor (IIb1), mature B cell (IIb2), mature T/NK cell, and no other specification (NOS; 42.3%, 15.8%, 14.1%, and 27.8%, respectively). In both regions, the overall incidence rates were similar (central=5.3, 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.6-6.1 vs. southern=6.3, 95% CI, 4.6-8.4); also, there were no differences by types (precursor cell LNH, 2.3 vs. 2.5; mature B cell, 0.9 vs. 0.8; mature T/NK cells, 0.8 vs. 0.8; and NOS, 1.4 vs. 2.3). In both regions, a decreasing trend was found (central= -0.17%, 95% CI, -0.03 to -0.3, P=0.04; southern= -0.32%, 95% CI, -0.07 to -0.57, P=0.02), with major reduction of NHL NOS from 1996 to 2000. In both regions, men predominated (2.1:1). CONCLUSIONS Socioeconomic status did not influence the incidence rates of NHL. In this study, we found a reduction of NHL NOS, possibly due to better typing.

Abstract
In classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL), Epstein Barr virus (EBV) association varies worldwide. Aims: Our aim was to analyze EBV association with pediatric cHL for the last 28 years. Methods: EBV presence was evaluated by EBERs in situ hybridization and LMP1 immunohistochemistry. Results: Until 2008, we found in pediatric cHL a similar percentage of EBV presence to those observed in adult cHL from developed populations. Nevertheless, in the last 8 years, an unexpected difference in cHL EBV association was proven, along with a slight bias of EBV association with the nodular sclerosis (NS) subtype. Concerning histological subtype distribution, even though MC still prevailed in the whole series, those cases diagnosed as NS showed a sustained rise from 1989 until today. Conclusion: Variations of EBV association of cHL related to geography, age, ethnicity, and histological type have been largely described when compared with different world regions, but interestingly, this single-center revised series brought to light the dynamic process behind the evolution of this relationship over time.

Abstract
The epidemiology of classical Hodgkin lymphoma varies significantly in populations with different socioeconomic conditions. Among other changes, improvement in such conditions leads to a reduction in the association with EBV infection and predominance of the nodular sclerosis subtype. This study provides an overview of the epidemiology of 817 cases of classical Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosed in five reference hospitals of the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, over 54 years (1954–2008). The cases were distributed in 3 periods (1954–1979; 1980–1999; and 2000–2008). EBV-positive cases decreased from 87% to 46%. In children and adolescents (<15 years) and in young adults (15–45 years), EBV-positive cases decreased respectively from 96% to 64%, and from 85% to 32%. The percentage of male patients declined from 80% to 58%. In older patients (>45 years), the decrease in EBV infection was not significant. Nodular Sclerosis was the most common subtype in all periods. These results support the hypothesis that, in the Brazilian State of Sao Paulo, classical Hodgkin lymphoma has changed and now shows characteristics consistent with Pattern III observed in populations that experienced a similar socioeconomic transition.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer is a major cause of death in children worldwide, and the recorded incidence tends to increase with time. Internationally comparable data on childhood cancer incidence in the past two decades are scarce. This study aimed to provide internationally comparable local data on the incidence of childhood cancer to promote research of causes and implementation of childhood cancer control. METHODS This population-based registry study, devised by the International Agency for Research on Cancer in collaboration with the International Association of Cancer Registries, collected data on all malignancies and non-malignant neoplasms of the CNS diagnosed before age 20 years in populations covered by high-quality cancer registries with complete data for 2001-10. Incidence rates per million person-years for the 0-14 years and 0-19 years age groups were age-adjusted using the world standard population to provide age-standardised incidence rates (WSRs), using the age-specific incidence rates (ASR) for individual age groups (0-4 years, 5-9 years, 10-14 years, and 15-19 years). All rates were reported for 19 geographical areas or ethnicities by sex, age group, and cancer type. The regional WSRs for children aged 0-14 years were compared with comparable data obtained in the 1980s. FINDINGS Of 532 invited cancer registries, 153 registries from 62 countries, departments, and territories met quality standards, and contributed data for the entire decade of 2001-10. 385 509 incident cases in children aged 0-19 years occurring in 2·64 billion person-years were included. The overall WSR was 140·6 per million person-years in children aged 0-14 years (based on 284 649 cases), and the most common cancers were leukaemia (WSR 46·4), followed by CNS tumours (WSR 28·2), and lymphomas (WSR 15·2). In children aged 15-19 years (based on 100 860 cases), the ASR was 185·3 per million person-years, the most common being lymphomas (ASR 41·8) and the group of epithelial tumours and melanoma (ASR 39·5). Incidence varied considerably between and within the described regions, and by cancer type, sex, age, and racial and ethnic group. Since the 1980s, the global WSR of registered cancers in children aged 0-14 years has increased from 124·0 (95% CI 123·3-124·7) to 140·6 (140·1-141·1) per million person-years. INTERPRETATION This unique global source of childhood cancer incidence will be used for aetiological research and to inform public health policy, potentially contributing towards attaining several targets of the Sustainable Development Goals. The observed geographical, racial and ethnic, age, sex, and temporal variations require constant monitoring and research. Abstract
We compared the features of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) association in Tunisia in two periods of time, 1991-2001 (111 cases) and 2002-2012 (122 cases). The investigation of the EBV status by EBER in situ hybridization showed a significant decrease in the prevalence of EBV-positive HL from 69.3 % for the period 1991-2001 to 40.1 % for the 2002-2012 period (p = 0.00001). EBV positivity has decreased in all age groups but was more pronounced among young patients, in the 15-24-year age group (46.1 vs 10.3 %, p = 0.003), in the 25-34-year age group (56.2 vs 25 %, p = 0.04), and among children (88.4 vs 59.2 %, p = 0.01). This decrease in EBV-positive HL over time contrasted with a remarkable increase in EBV-negative HL in young adults aged 15-34 years (51.2 vs 83 %; p = 0.001), especially among women (59.1 vs 91.2 %; p = 0.01). The decrease in EBV-positive HL over time concerns particularly the nodular sclerosis histological subtype (69.2 vs 31.6 %, p = 0.000001). These results indicate that the epidemiology of HL and its association with EBV are changing over time, with a trend toward a Western profile, and point toward the emergence of other environmental causative factors, especially among young women, which remain to be identified.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Incidence rates of the histologic subtypes of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) differed with socioeconomic conditions. MATERIALS AND METHODS HL cases from the Register of Childhood Cancer (below 15 y of age) for 2 socioeconomic regions were analyzed. Central region has a high socioeconomic index; and the southern region a low index. The incidence rates (cases per million children/year) were estimated according to histologic subtypes, age groups, sex, clinical stages, time to diagnosis, and overall survival by regions. RESULTS The overall incidence was greater in the south (6.8 vs. 4.6), principally due to higher incidence of mixed cellularity subtype (3.8 vs. 1.0). In the south, the highest incidence was found in the 5- to 9-year-old group (9.2), whereas in the central region it was found in the 10- to 14-year-old group (7.4). There was a delay of ∼3 weeks in the time to diagnosis (P=0.36) in the south, but no difference in the percentage of advanced stages, adjusted by histologic subtype (61%, III and IV). The overall survival was 71%, differences were identified only for mixed cellularity cases (center=89.2 vs. south=61.5%, P=0.03). CONCLUSIONS Incidences of HL subtypes differed in relation to socioeconomic conditions in Mexico. In the south, the incidence of mixed cellularity was higher and there was an earlier peak of presentation.

Abstract
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in the peripheral blood has become a significant predictor of clinical outcomes in EBV-associated Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). However, due to its relative rarity, prevalence and prognostic role of circulating EBV-DNA has not been well established in Asian patients. Seventy patients with newly diagnosed HL were prospectively registered between October 2007 and January 2013, and underwent pretreatment whole blood (WB) EBV-DNA quantitation using real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). WB EBV-DNA in baseline and serial RT-PCR within 1 year were investigated. Clinicopathologic parameters of the patients according to pretreatment WB EBV-DNA were also explored. Twelve patients (17.1 %) demonstrated WB EBV-DNA(+), which was significantly associated to older age, advanced stages, frequent involvements of extranodal sites, low serum albumin and hemoglobin levels, and high international prognostic scores ≥2. Three-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were significantly inferior in patients with pretreatment WB EBV-DNA(+) (53.5 vs 67.0 and 65.6 vs 90.2 %) (p < 0.032 and <0.01). Negatively conversed EBV-DNA within 1 year after chemotherapy also significantly affected favorable EFS (p < 0.01). Taken together, pretreatment WB EBV-DNA(+) may be a significant predictor of inferior EFS and OS over EBV-encoded RNA in situ hybridization (EBER-ISH)(+) in Korean patients with HL. Serial EBV-DNA monitoring following chemotherapy also seems helpful to predict survival outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hodgkin lymphoma in young adults is inexplicably linked to economic development. METHODS We conducted a nested case-control study of the 656 servicemen with Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosed between ages 17 to 32 while on active duty in the U.S. military during 1950-68. Controls, chosen randomly from the servicemen on duty at the time, were matched on service, birth year, and induction date. Information came from preinduction records and military records for the period ending at onset or the equivalent date. RESULTS Risk was independently increased with small sib-ship size [OR, 2.3; confidence interval (CI), 1.6-3.5], low birth order (OR, 1.9; CI, 1.4-2.6), and an interval of at least 5 years between birth and that of a previous or subsequent sibling (OR, 2.1; CI, 1.5-3.1). Other factors independently and significantly associated with elevated risk of Hodgkin lymphoma were: tallness, high body mass index, more education (but not higher income) in the county of birth, BB or AB blood type, and past infectious mononucleosis (but a deficit of other childhood viral infections). Early fatherhood conveyed high risk (OR, 2.6; CI, 1.4-4.8), especially if with a high-risk sibling configuration. Factors unrelated to risk included personal education, preinduction or military occupation, induction test score, and rank. Findings were similar for nodular sclerosis and mixed cell histologic subtypes. CONCLUSIONS Protection from the environment in childhood, but not in adulthood, increases the likelihood of young adult Hodgkin lymphoma, which may result from nonspecific isolation from early infections and/or exposure to late infection by a specific but unidentified ubiquitous childhood virus. IMPACT Events in childhood protect against later Hodgkin lymphoma.

Abstract
PURPOSE For classical Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), migrant studies could elucidate contributions of environmental factors (including Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)) to the lower rates in non-whites. Given the well-described etiologic complexity of HL, this research requires a large, immigrant population, such as California Hispanics. METHODS With 1988-2004 California Cancer Registry data (2,595 Hispanic, 8,637 white HL cases) and tumor cell EBV status on a subset (218 Hispanics, 656 whites), we calculated ethnicity- and nativity-specific HL incidence rates simultaneously by age, sex, and histologic subtype, and tumor cell EBV prevalence. RESULTS Compared with white rates, Hispanic HL rates were lower overall (70 %) and for nodular sclerosis HL, particularly among young adults (60-65 % for females). However, they were higher among children (200 %) and older adults, and for mixed cellularity HL. Compared with rates in foreign-born Hispanics, rates in US-born Hispanics were higher among young adults (>threefold in females), lower for children and adults over age 70, and consistently intermediate compared with rates in whites. EBV tumor prevalence was 67, 32, and 23 % among foreign-born Hispanics, US-born Hispanics, and whites, respectively, although with variation by age, sex, and histology. CONCLUSIONS Findings strongly implicate environmental influences, such as nativity-related sociodemographic differences, on HL occurrence. In addition, lower young adult rates and higher EBV prevalence in US-born Hispanics than in whites raise questions about the duration/extent of environmental change for affecting HL rates and also point to ethnic differences in genetic susceptibility. Lesser variation in mixed cellularity HL rates and greater variation in rates for females across groups suggest less modifiable factors interacting with environmental influences.
