Abstract
This study aimed to investigate changes in hand sensation (finger tactile threshold and two-point discrimination) and function in patients with malignant lymphoma, particularly during the early stages of chemotherapy with vincristine. Eighteen patients with malignant lymphoma were enrolled in this study. Data on the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events Version 4.0, the visual analog scale for hand numbness, the Semmes Weinstein monofilament test, static and moving two-point discrimination (2PD), grip strength, pinch strength, and the Purdue Pegboard test were collected at 3 time points: before the start of chemotherapy (T0), after the first cycle of chemotherapy (T1), and after the second cycle of chemotherapy (T2). No significant changes were observed in Semmes Weinstein monofilament test at T0, T1, or T2 in either hand. However, the static 2PD was significantly worse for the right ring, little, and left middle fingers, whereas the moving 2PD was significantly worse for the right ring, left index, middle, and ring fingers. Furthermore, the visual analog scale scores for hand numbness and left-hand grip strength worsened significantly. Right-hand grip strength, pinch strength of both hands, and Purdue Pegboard test showed no significant deterioration. Chemotherapy with vincristine may affect hand sensation and function in patients with malignant lymphoma by exacerbating finger 2PD and hand numbness. Additionally, during the early stages of vincristine chemotherapy, it is important to monitor for a decrease in grip strength specifically in the left hand.

Abstract
PURPOSE Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) commonly involves hand dexterity impairment. However, the factors affecting hand dexterity impairment are unknown and there is currently no established treatment. The purpose of the current study was to clarify factors influencing hand dexterity impairment in taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy using subjective and objective assessments. METHODS We assessed patient characteristics, treatment-related factors, subjective symptoms of CIPN (Patient Neurotoxicity Questionnaire [PNQ]), psychological symptoms, and upper limb dysfunction (Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand [Quick DASH]). Quantitative assessments were pinch strength, sensory threshold, hand dexterity impairment, and grip force control. Multiple regression analysis was performed using hand dexterity impairment as the dependent variable and age and PNQ, Quick DASH, and control of grip force as independent variables. RESULTS Forty-three breast cancer patients were included in the analysis. Hand dexterity impairment in taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy patients was significantly correlated with age, grip force control, and PNQ sensory scores (p < 0.008). Multiple regression analysis demonstrated that PNQ sensory scores and grip force control were significantly associated with hand dexterity impairment (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION Subjective symptoms (numbness and pain) and grip force control contributed to impaired hand dexterity in taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies on varicose veins have focused its effects on physical function; however, whether nonsurgical treatments alter muscle oxygenation or physical function remains unclear. Moreover, the differences in such functions between individuals with varicose veins and healthy individuals remain unclear. AIM To investigate changes in physical function and the quality of life (QOL) following nonsurgical treatment of patients with varicose veins and determine the changes in their muscle oxygenation during activity. METHODS We enrolled 37 participants (those with varicose veins, n = 17; healthy individuals, n = 20). We performed the following measurements pre- and post-nonsurgical treatment in the varicose vein patients and healthy individuals: Calf muscle oxygenation during the two-minute step test, open eyes one-leg stance, 30 s sit-to-stand test, visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, Pittsburgh sleep quality index, physical activity assessment, and QOL assessment. RESULTS Varicose veins patients and healthy individuals differ in most variables (physical function, sleep quality, and QOL). Varicose veins patients showed significant differences between pre- and post-nonsurgical treatment- results in the 30 sit-to-stand test [14.41 (2.45) to 16.35 (4.11), P = 0.018), two-minute step test [162.29 (25.98) to 170.65 (23.80), P = 0.037], VAS for pain [5.35 (1.90) to 3.88 (1.73), P = 0.004], and QOL [39.34 (19.98) to 26.69 (17.02), P = 0.005]; however, no significant difference was observed for muscle oxygenation. CONCLUSION Nonsurgical treatment improved lower extremity function and QOL in varicose veins patients, bringing their condition close to that of healthy individuals. Future studies should include patients with severe varicose veins requiring surgery to confirm our findings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate associations between quality of life (QoL) and 1) immunotherapy and other cancer treatments received three months before QoL measurements, and 2) the comorbidities at the time of completion or in the year prior to QoL measurements, among patients with advanced cancer. METHODS A cross-sectional study is conducted on patients with advanced cancer in the Netherlands. The data come from the baseline wave of the 2017-2020 eQuiPe study. Participants were surveyed via questionnaires (including EORTC QLQ-C30). Using multivariable linear and logistic regression models, we explored statistical associations between QoL components and immunotherapy and other cancer treatments as well as pre-existing comorbidities while adjusting for age, sex, socio-economic status. RESULTS Of 1088 participants with median age 67 years, 51% were men. Immunotherapy was not associated with global QoL but was associated with reduced appetite loss (odds ratio (OR) = 0.6, 95%CI = [0.3,0.9]). Reduced global QoL was associated with chemotherapy (adjusted mean difference (β) = - 4.7, 95% CI [- 8.5,- 0.8]), back pain (β = - 7.4, 95% CI [- 11.0,- 3.8]), depression (β = - 13.8, 95% CI [- 21.5,- 6.2]), thyroid diseases (β = - 8.9, 95% CI [- 14.0,- 3.8]) and diabetes (β = - 4.5, 95% CI [- 8.9,- 0.5]). Chemotherapy was associated with lower physical (OR = 2.4, 95% CI [1.5,3.9]) and role (OR = 1.8, 95% CI [1.2,2.7]) functioning, and higher pain (OR = 1.9, 95% CI [1.3,2.9]) and fatigue (OR = 1.6, 95% CI [1.1,2.4]). CONCLUSION Our study identified associations between specific cancer treatments, lower QoL and more symptoms. Monitoring symptoms may improve QoL of patients with advanced cancer. Producing more evidence from real life data would help physicians in better identifying patients who require additional supportive care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy is a major first-line conventional therapy for advanced and metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC). However, oxaliplatin causes chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Acupuncture has long been used to alleviate limb numbness in Chinese medicine practice. AIM The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture (EA) for the alleviation of CIPN in CRC patients. DESIGN This was a pilot single-blinded, randomized, sham-controlled trial. SETTING/PARTICIPANTS Sixty eligible patients, who had been diagnosed with CRC and were undergoing oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy, were randomized in a ratio of 1:1 to the EA intervention group or sham acupuncture (SA) control group. During a 12-week treatment period, patients in the EA group received EA once a week, while patients in the SA group received SA; both groups were followed up for 12 weeks. RESULTS Compared with the SA group, the EA group exhibited significant alleviation of CIPN severity during chemotherapy. Moreover, EA also improved the physical function, role function, and social function of CRC patients. However, there were no significant differences in tests of vibration or light touch sensation. In addition, EA appeared to be a safe treatment for CIPN and was both feasible and acceptable to CRC patients during chemotherapy. CONCLUSION This study showed preliminary evidence for the efficacy and safety of EA in acute CIPN among CRC patients, although further studies are needed to verify these effects and to further explore the potential role of EA in chronic CIPN (effects on which remain unclear). Abstract
BACKGROUND Pain after therapy is an important clinical problem in patients with breast cancer. Unfortunately, cancer patients have a lower quality of life due to inadequate treatment of posttreatment pain; therefore, improving medication management plans and palliative care has become one of the most important targets of cancer therapy. Therefore, the current study aimed to examine the impact of posttreatment pain on medication satisfaction in patients with various stages of breast cancer in Palestine. METHODS A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted et al.-Watani Hospital and An-Najah National University Hospital in the Nablus area. Using the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), the intensity and interference of pain were evaluated. In addition, patients' satisfaction with cancer management medications was measured using the Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication (TSQM). RESULTS Two hundred fifty-four patients were included in this study. All were women, with a mean ± SD age of 53.1 ± 10.7 years. The median score for pain severity was 7.0. Pain in the lower extremities was the most reported location. There was a negative association between the global satisfaction domain and the presence of posttreatment pain (p < 0.001). Furthermore, significant differences and negative correlations were found between global satisfaction and posttreatment pain on the day of the interview (p = 0.001), pain medication (p < 0.001), paracetamol use (p < 0.001), and the presence of side effects (p = 0.003). There were significant negative correlations (p < 0.05) between pain severity and interference with effectiveness (r = -0.258, -0.319, respectively), side effects (r = -0.414, -0.514, respectively), convenience (r = -0.274, -0.307, respectively), and global satisfaction domain scores (r = -0.293, -0.287, respectively). Exposure to chemotherapy was the only significant positive correlation with global satisfaction (p = 0.007). The regression analysis results indicated an independent association between chemotherapy use and a higher global satisfaction score (p = 0.011). CONCLUSIONS Patients with posttreatment pain, side effects, and greater interference of pain with their functioning had lower satisfaction scores. Therefore, better management of their treatment medications, side effects, and pain medications is recommended to enhance their satisfaction and quality of life. Several aspects of palliative care should be organized to improve the patient's satisfaction and quality of life in addition to conducting longitudinal studies to evaluate the pain and satisfaction of different types of cancers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This trial will analyze the acute and cumulative effects of a tailored program called PRESIONA that combines therapeutic exercise and blood flow restriction to prevent chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in individuals with early breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy. METHODS PRESIONA will be a physical therapist-led multimodal exercise program that uses blood flow restriction during low-load aerobic and strength exercises. For the acute study, only 1 session will be performed 1 day before the first taxane cycle, in which 72 women will be assessed before intervention and 24 hours post intervention. For the cumulative study, PRESIONA will consist of 24 to 36 sessions for 12 weeks following an undulatory prescription. At least 80 women will be randomized to the experimental group or control group. Feasibility will be quantified based on the participant recruitment to acceptance ratio; dropout, retention, and adherence rates; participant satisfaction; tolerance; and program security. In the efficacy study, the main outcomes will be CIPN symptoms assessed with a participant-reported questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-CIPN20). In addition, to determine the impact on other participant-reported health and sensorimotor and physical outcomes, the proportion of completed scheduled chemotherapy sessions will be examined at baseline (t0), after anthracycline completion (t1), after intervention (t2), and at the 2-month (t3) and 1-year follow-ups (t4). CONCLUSION The proposed innovative approach of this study could have a far-reaching impact on therapeutic options, and the physical therapist role could be essential in the oncology unit to improve quality of life in individuals with cancer and reduce side effects of cancer and its treatments. IMPACT Physical therapists in the health care system could be essential to achieve the planned doses of chemotherapy to improve survival and decrease the side effects of individuals with breast cancer. The prevention of CIPN would have an impact on the quality of life in these individuals, and this protocol potentially could provide an action guide that could be implemented in any health care system.

Abstract
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION Cognitive impairment is a common and troublesome side effect experienced by many cancer survivors. It can have a significant impact on survivors' ability to function and enjoy a high quality of life. However, most cognitive impairment research has focused on breast cancer survivors, despite the high rates of colorectal cancer and the toxicity of treatment agents in some colorectal cancer chemotherapeutic regimens, which have been linked to cognitive impairment. This review provides a novel synthesis of what is known about cognitive impairment in colorectal cancer survivors. LITERATURE SEARCH CINAHL®, Cochrane Library, Embase®, PsycINFO®, and PubMed® were systematically searched by a health sciences librarian. DATA EVALUATION Data were extracted across studies; findings about the prevalence, severity, and correlates of cognitive impairment were synthesized. SYNTHESIS Across findings from 26 articles representing 24 independent studies, 13%-57% of participants had cognitive impairment. Potential demographic, physiologic, and psychological correlates of cognitive impairment were identified. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Findings indicate a need to focus research and patient assessments on early identification of risk factors, assessing for existing cognitive deficits and testing interventions to decrease cognitive impairment in colorectal cancer survivors.

Abstract
Chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathy (CIPN), one of the most severe and incapacitating side effects of chemotherapeutic drugs, is a serious concern in breast cancer therapy leading to dose diminution, delay, or cessation. The reversibility of CIPN is of increasing importance since active chemotherapies prolong survival. Clinical assessment tools show that patients experiencing sensorimotor CIPN symptoms not only do they have to cope with loss in autonomy and life quality, but CIPN has become a key restricting factor in treatment. CIPN incidence poses a clinical challenge and has lacked established and efficient therapeutic options up to now. Complementary, non-opioid therapies are sought for both prevention and management of CIPN. In this perspective, we explore the potential that digital interventions have for sensorimotor CIPN rehabilitation in breast cancer patients. Our primary goal is to emphasize the benefits and impact that Virtual Reality (VR) avatars and Machine Learning have in combination in a digital intervention aiming at (1) assessing the complete kinematics of deficits through learning underlying patient sensorimotor parameters, and (2) parameterize a multimodal VR simulation to drive personalized deficit compensation. We support our perspective by evaluating sensorimotor effects of chemotherapy, the metrics to assess sensorimotor deficits, and relevant clinical studies. We subsequently analyse the neurological substrate of VR sensorimotor rehabilitation, with multisensory integration acting as a key element. Finally, we propose a closed-loop patient-centered design recommendation for CIPN sensorimotor rehabilitation. Our aim is to provoke the scientific community toward the development and use of such digital interventions for more efficient and targeted rehabilitation.

Abstract
PURPOSE Single and double fascicular nerve transfer using the ulnar or median nerve is performed to restore elbow flexion following injuries to the brachial plexus or nerve root. However, little is known regarding the postoperative changes involved in the sensory alteration of the hand after a single and double fascicular nerve transfer. We evaluated the sensory alteration of the hand in patients who underwent single and double fascicular nerve transfer for two years. METHODS A total of five patients that underwent single or double fascicular nerve transfer participated in this study. The injury mechanism was avulsion (n = 2), stretching (n = 1), open injury (n = 1), and compression (n = 1). The touch sensation of the index and the little fingers before surgery at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years after nerve transfer was evaluated using the Semmes-Weinstein monofilaments test (SWM-t). Muscle strength of the elbow flexion and the wrist flexion was evaluated. RESULTS The touch sensation of the index finger at 24 months was equal to the preoperative evaluation. On the other hand, the touch sensation of the little finger at 24 months slightly improved compared to what it had been at the preoperative evaluation. Moreover, the median of the SWM-t score in the index and little finger at 24 months after surgery was beyond 3.61 that mean diminished light touch level. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study indicate that the touch sensory deficit of the index and little fingers persist for up to 2 years after nerve transfer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Colorectal cancer (CRC) has become a major concern due to industrialization and dietary changes generated by it. Many of the components of the DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) diet are associated with the risk of CRC. However, the relationship between DASH dietary pattern and CRC has not been studied yet in a systematic review and meta-analysis. The present study was conducted to review the studies investigating the relationship between DASH diet and the risk of CRC. METHODS PubMed and Scopus search engines were searched to find relevant publications from inception up to September 2019. All the observational studies that addressed the association between DASH diet and CRC were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. All the steps including data base search, screening, and data extraction were carried out by two researchers, independently. RESULTS Eight studies included in this systematic review and 5 studies (out of 8 studies included in the systematic review) were included in the meta-analysis. Combining 12 effects sizes from 5 studies, a significant inverse association between adherence to the DASH diet and risk of CRC was found (RR: 0.80; 95% CI: 0.74, 0.85). Based on the result of this study, individuals with greater adherence to DASH diet had 20% lower risk of CRC. CONCLUSION The current study demonstrates that the risk of CRC is negatively associated with the adherence to the DASH dietary pattern.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This systematic review of longitudinal studies, assessing subjective cognitive impairment (SCI) reported by adult cancer patients, aimed to summarize evidence on the impact of chemotherapy on SCI, identify moderators of SCI, and evaluate methodological issues. METHODS Data accrued from Pubmed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsychInfo, and the Cochrane library. Inclusion criteria were original studies, an exclusively adult sample, valid and reliable subjective cognitive measures, and at least one baseline data point prior to and another after the initiation of chemotherapy. Data were collected on the sample composition, data-collection time points, outcome measures, statistical analysis, and major findings (ie, longitudinal changes in prevalence, severity, and associated factors). RESULTS Forty articles published between 2004 and 2019 were retained: 21 examined chemotherapy-treated patients only, and 19 employed control groups. Findings were mixed, with slightly more studies supporting the impact of chemotherapy on SCI. SCI tended to be more prevalent and severe after initiating chemotherapy, compared with patients' own baseline and controls not treated with chemotherapy. Impact appeared to be acute and more likely limited to subsamples. Most studies examining non-breast-cancer samples reported the lack or limited impact of chemotherapy on SCI. The most consistent moderators were depression and fatigue. Methodological issues regarding sampling design, measurement, and statistical analysis were discussed. CONCLUSION More rigorously designed longitudinal studies would clarify direct and indirect effects of chemotherapy on SCI.

Abstract
Chemotherapy for colorectal cancer may lower muscle protein synthesis and increase oxidative stress. We hypothesize that chemotherapy may worsen plasma amino acids (AAs) and markers of oxidative stress (MOS). Therefore, this study aimed to document plasma AAs and MOS before, during and after chemotherapy in colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery patients. Fourteen normal-weight CRC patients were enrolled one month after surgery and scheduled for oxaliplatin-fluoropyrimidine combination (XELOX) therapy. Venous blood samples for AA and MOS (malondialdehyde, MDA; 8-hydroxy-2’-deoxyguanosine, 8-OHdG) measurements were drawn in fasting patients before each oxaliplatin infusion at initiation (A), 1 month (B) and 3 months (C) of the therapy, and after XELOX had finished (6 months, D). The results showed that during XELOX therapy (from phase B to phase D), in comparison to baseline (phase A), the branched chain amino acid/essential amino acid ratio, branched chain amino acids expressed as a percentage of total AAs, and arginine expressed as a percentage of total AAs significantly decreased (p = 0.017, p = 0.028, p = 0.028, respectively). Plasma levels of MOS did not change significantly. This study indicates that XELOX therapy does not affect plasma AA levels or worsen oxidative stress.

Abstract
Oxaliplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapeutic drug, frequently induces peripheral neuropathy. Accumulating evidences suggest a possible relationship between peripheral vascular impairment and peripheral neuropathy. In this study, we investigated the effects of vasodilators on cumulative peripheral neuropathy induced by repeated injections of oxaliplatin (10 mg/kg) once a week for 8 weeks in mice. Single injections of vasodilators, including a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor tadalafil acutely alleviated oxaliplatin-induced cold hypersensitivity, while tadalafil had no effect on the mechanical hypersensitivity. By contrast, long-term administration of tadalafil (0.1% in chow diets) during the oxaliplatin injection period reduced the oxaliplatin-induced decreases in skin temperature and blood flow without affecting platinum concentrations in blood, sciatic nerves, and dorsal root ganglion. The long-term administration significantly suppressed cold, mechanical, and electrical current hypersensitivities as well as thermal hypoesthesia. Furthermore, it prevented the decreases in sensory nerve conductance velocity and the number of endoneurial microvessels, and axon degeneration in the sciatic nerves. In vitro studies confirmed that tadalafil does not interfere with the cytotoxicity of oxaliplatin against human cancer cell lines. Altogether, these results suggest that improvement of peripheral vascular impairment by tadalafil could alleviate and prevent oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy.
