Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the moderating effect of daylight exposure on physical activity and objective sleep quality, using wearable actigraph devices. METHODS We recruited 324 patients with either gastric or esophageal cancer. Actigraphs were used to measure all objective data including daylight exposure, physical activity, and sleep quality. Pearson's correlation coefficients were used to examine the relationships among demographic data, disease attributes, physical activity, daylight exposure, and sleep. The Hayes PROCESS macro with the regression bootstrapping method was employed to analyze the moderating effect of daylight exposure on the relationship between physical activity and sleep. RESULTS Sleep efficiency correlated positively with physical activity, while "wake after sleep onset" correlated negatively with physical activity and mean lux. Mean lux and light >500 lux significantly moderated the association between physical activity and sleep efficiency (P = .002 in both cases). Similarly, mean lux and light >500 lux significantly moderated the association between physical activity and "wake after sleep onset" (P = .002 and .001, respectively). CONCLUSION Both average daylight exposure and time of exposure to >500 lux act as moderators of physical activity and objective sleep quality in patients with gastric or esophageal cancer. Healthcare practitioners should encourage patients with cancer to engage in daily outdoor physical activity. Further intervention studies are needed to verify the combined effect of daytime light exposure and physical activity on improving sleep quality. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Patients with hematologic cancer experience severe symptoms (i.e. insomnia, fatigue, pain, distress). Few interventions addressing insomnia and other symptoms exist for this population. Mindfulness-Based Therapy for Insomnia (MBTI) may be appropriate but has only been tested in healthy outpatients. This study aimed to develop and test an adapted MBTI protocol for hematologic cancer patients. METHODS Patient (n = 3) and clinician (n = 1) focus groups, and user-testing (N = 5) informed adaptation of Mindful Night-to-Day (MBTI+). A single-arm pilot trial (N = 32) evaluated feasibility (accrual, attrition, adherence), acceptability (intervention satisfaction), and changes to insomnia symptom severity (Insomnia Severity Index; primary outcome) and secondary outcomes (fatigue, pain, distress, pre-sleep arousal, mindfulness, symptom management self-efficacy) at baseline, post-intervention, and 1-month post-intervention. Descriptive statistics and paired sample t-tests were conducted. RESULTS Qualitative feedback informed MBTI+ content, format, and delivery. Mindfulness was used to increase symptom awareness (sleepiness vs. fatigue). Meditations and behavioral skills were applied to inpatient treatment. MBTI+ met feasibility (N = 32/12 months; 8.1% attrition; 83.8% adherence) and acceptability (M = 3.52/4.00) benchmarks. Insomnia symptom severity decreased (d = 1.20) from baseline to post-intervention, as did most secondary outcomes. CONCLUSIONS MBTI+ was feasible, acceptable, and showed promise for benefits throughout inpatient and outpatient treatment. Findings warrant further evaluation in a randomized trial.

Abstract
In modern society, demanding and stressful events contribute to increased fatigue in adults. Moreover, fatigue is the most prevalent symptom of long coronavirus disease 2019. Fatigue is a subjective feeling of tiredness that can be attributed to various causes. This cross-sectional study investigated factors affecting physical and mental fatigue in adults living in South Korea. Self-reported data were collected through an online survey conducted between July 11 and July 17, 2021. The final sample comprised 362 participants, excluding those with uncertain responses. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 27.0. General characteristics and variables of the participants were examined through descriptive statistical analysis. Differences in fatigue level according to the general characteristics of the participants were analyzed using t tests and one-way analysis of variance. The correlation between variables was analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficients. To investigate factors affecting fatigue, stepwise multiple regression analysis was conducted. The overall level of fatigue according to participants' general characteristics differed significantly based on alcohol use, economic status, number of chronic diseases, stress, depression, and sleep problems. Factors affecting physical fatigue were depression, sleep problems, General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) scores, and number of chronic diseases. The factors affecting mental fatigue were depression, GHQ-12 score, and alcohol use. The variables that had the most significant impact on overall fatigue were alcohol consumption, the number of chronic illnesses, depression, and GHQ-12, in that order. This emphasizes the importance of lifestyle improvement and dietary management in adults for preventing chronic diseases and managing mental health. The results of this study should be considered when planning health services to provide fatigue interventions for Korean adults.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate influencing factors of cancer-related fatigue (CRF) in adult patients with acute leukemia (AL). Methods A total of 288 adult patients diagnosed with acute leukemia in West China Hospital were included in this study. A cross-sectional survey, including the Clinical Information Questionnaire, the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-F), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD), was provided to the patients. Hierarchical multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to evaluate the associations of the variable factors and the AL patients' CRF. Results The CRF score of AL patients was 33.25 ± 10.35. Gender, age, albumin level, depression, anxiety status of the patients and treatment cycles were identified as influencing factors of CRF in AL patients (P < 0.05). The CRF level of acute leukemia patients in the complete remission group was lower than that of patients who were not achieving complete remission. Depression, anxiety, age, employment, albumin, and sleep disturbance were independent influencing factors for CRF in patients who were not achieving complete remission. Conclusions Acute leukemia patients who are female, older, hypoalbuminemia,or in the induction therapy have a higher risk of developing a high degree of CRF. Clinical staff should pay more attention to the CRF of patients who were not achieving complete remission. Early screening and aggressive intervention could be adopted in caring for these patients.

Abstract
Physical performance could be negatively affected by sleep deficiency and fatigue. The present study assesses the role of sleep quality, fatigue and motivation on cardiovascular performance (VO2peak, Wmax, and HRmax) in a sample of active young subjects. The current study is a cross-sectional design. Ninety-six university students (males 54.2%; 21.5 ± 2.9 yrs) completed an incremental exercise test on a bicycle ergometer. Sleep, fatigue, and motivation were assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and two visual analogue scales, respectively. Differences in VO2peak, Wmax, HRmax, self-perceived fatigue and motivation were compared between good and bad sleepers and sleep duration >/<7.5 h, while regression analysis defined the predictors of VO2peak, Wmax, and HRmax. In the male sample, good and bad sleepers' differences were significant only for self-perceived fatigue (p = 0.04). The female sample showed no statistically significant differences between good and bad sleepers and different sleep durations. In the male sample, linear regression analysis showed a significant inverse correlation between Wmax and the PSQI score (-0.4, p = 0.004). The stepwise regression model indicated that sleep (β = -0.3, p = 0.02) was a significant predictor of VO2peak in males accounting for 20% of the variance, whereas physical performance seems more affected by fatigue (β = -0.4, p = 0.03) in females. In conclusion, chronic inadequate and self-reported sleep quality seems to be one of the factors compromising cardiovascular performance in males.

Abstract
While polysomnography (PSG) is the gold standard to quantify sleep, modern technology allows for new alternatives. PSG is obtrusive, affects the sleep it is set out to measure and requires technical assistance for mounting. A number of less obtrusive solutions based on alternative methods have been introduced, but few have been clinically validated. Here we validate one of these solutions, the ear-EEG method, against concurrently recorded PSG in twenty healthy subjects each measured for four nights. Two trained technicians scored the 80 nights of PSG independently, while an automatic algorithm scored the ear-EEG. The sleep stages and eight sleep metrics (Total Sleep Time (TST), Sleep Onset Latency, Sleep Efficiency, Wake After Sleep Onset, REM latency, REM fraction of TST, N2 fraction of TST, and N3 fraction of TST) were used in the further analysis. We found the sleep metrics: Total Sleep Time, Sleep Onset Latency, Sleep Efficiency, Wake After Sleep Onset were estimated with high accuracy and precision between automatic sleep scoring and manual sleep scoring. However, the REM latency and REM fraction of sleep showed high accuracy but low precision. Further, the automatic sleep scoring systematically overestimated the N2 fraction of sleep and slightly underestimated the N3 fraction of sleep. We demonstrate that sleep metrics estimated from automatic sleep scoring based on repeated ear-EEG in some cases are more reliably estimated with repeated nights of automatically scored ear-EEG than with a single night of manually scored PSG. Thus, given the obtrusiveness and cost of PSG, ear-EEG seems to be a useful alternative for sleep staging for the single night recording and an advantageous choice for several nights of sleep monitoring.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine the prevalence of different levels of aerobic activity and strength training in older cancer survivors and their associations with psychological distress and sleep difficulties. METHODS We used cross-sectional data from the 2016-2018 National Health Interview Survey on 3,425 survivors aged ≥ 65 years. Individuals were classified into active, insufficiently active, and inactive categories, and by whether they reported strength training at least twice per week. The outcome variables were self-reported psychological distress, trouble falling asleep, trouble staying asleep, and trouble waking up feeling rested. Multivariate logistic models were used to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and the 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS Only 35.2% of older survivors reached the recommended aerobic activity guidelines, and 12% had strength training at least twice per week. A total of 626 (18.3%) reported at least moderate psychological distress, and 1,137 (33.2%) had trouble staying asleep. For survivors who reported strength training less than two times per week, being insufficiently active or inactive was associated with worse psychological distress (OR 1.52, 95% CI 1.17-1.97; OR 1.30, 95% CI 1.02-1.64) and more sleep difficulties (OR ranging from 1.33 to 2.07). Among active survivors, strength training two or more times per week was associated with more trouble staying asleep (OR 1.67, 95% CI 1.06-2.58). CONCLUSIONS Most older cancer survivors did not meet the recommended physical activity guidelines and suffered from psychological distress and sleep difficulties. Additional research may be needed to examine the effects of frequent muscle strength training on sleep quality.

Abstract
Balneotherapy and exercise are potential factors influencing sleep through several physiological pathways and relaxing effects. This review aims to assess whether balneotherapy can improve sleep quality in concomitance or not with exercise. The research was conducted on Medline, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases. The current review followed PRISMA reporting guidelines and involves twenty-one articles grouped into four sections based on the characteristics of the balneotherapy protocol: 1.a Balneotherapy–thermal water immersion alone (five studies); 1.b Balneotherapy–thermal water immersion with other spa treatments (six studies); 2.a Balneotherapy and physical exercise–balneotherapy and out-of-the-pool physical exercise (eight studies); 2.b Balneotherapy and physical exercise–balneotherapy and in-pool physical exercise (three studies). Apart from healthy or sub-healthy subjects, patients recruited in the studies were affected by fibromyalgia, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal pain, subacute supraspinatus tendinopathy, and mental disorders. Duration, number of sessions, and study protocols are very different from each other. Only one study objectively evaluated sleep, whereas the others used subjective sleep assessment methods. Eight studies considered sleep as a primary outcome and ten as secondary. Sixteen out of twenty-one studies described improvements in self-perceived sleep quality. Thus, balneotherapy associated with other spa treatments and physical exercise seems to be effective in improving self-perceived sleep quality. However, the miscellany of treatments makes it difficult to discern the isolated effects of balneotherapy and physical exercise. Future studies should consider using an objective sleep assessment method and describing the pathways and physiological mechanisms that could provoke sleep changes during balneotherapy treatments.

Abstract
The aim of the present study is to explore the potential association between sleep quality and physical activity (PA) in women carriers of BRCA1/2 mutations. 63 women completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Godin Shepard Leisure-Time Physical Activity Questionnaire (GSL-TPAQ) and were included in the present cross-sectional analysis. Globally, women showed a PSQI score of 7.0 ± 3.6 and a GSL-TPAQ score of 22.8 ± 18.3. Good sleepers (PSQI score ≤ 5) showed significantly higher PA levels compared to bad sleepers (PSQI score > 5). Women in the higher tertile of GSL-TPAQ total score (≥ 27 METs/week) have a prevalence ratio (PR) of being a good sleeper of 2.85 (1.25-6.52, 95% confidence intervals) compared to women in the lower tertile (≤ 11 METs/week). These results were consistent in BRCA1 and BRCA2 women. Considering each single question of PA intensity, the PR of being a good sleeper by unit of increase of MET/week was higher and significant in women engaged in strenuous and moderate intensity PA. These results suggests a direct association between PA and sleep quality in women carriers of BRCA mutations.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and sleep disturbances are common symptoms among patients with cancer. They are often conceptualized as a part of a larger symptom cluster, also comprising pain and emotional distress. Despite their prevalence and long-lasting effects, CRF and sleep disturbances are still poorly addressed in clinical settings. Specific interventions are needed to manage these symptoms. RECENT FINDINGS In addition to conventional pharmacological therapies, other kinds of interventions are increasingly being developed in oncology. This review will discuss three categories of interventions for patients with cancer and their interest in alleviating CRF and sleep disturbances: physical exercises (e.g., aerobic, resistance training, running, free weights), psychological interventions (e.g., cognitive-behavioural therapy, psychoeducational interventions), and mind-body interventions (e.g., yoga, mindfulness, hypnosis). The multicomponent aspect of these interventions seems particularly important to address these symptoms. SUMMARY The findings detailed in this review will allow the scientific community, as well as health professionals working in oncology settings, to be informed about new nonpharmacological therapeutic options to help patients to manage their symptoms. It could eventually help to improve existing interventions for these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical exercise in women with breast cancer has shown benefits in reducing fatigue levels during adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, it is not well understood which type of exercise is more effective. OBJECTIVE Assess the impact of different types of physical exercises on fatigue and which is the most effective in reducing this adverse effect during adjuvant treatment in breast cancer. METHODS The inclusion criteria were randomized clinical trials of physical exercise in women diagnosed with breast cancer in stages I to IV, above 18 years, evaluating fatigue using validated questionnaires. The meta-analysis pooled results by standardized mean difference (SMD). RESULTS A total of 20 randomized clinical trials involving 1793 participants revealed that the practice of physical exercise was statistically effective in reducing fatigue (SMD = - 0.46; 95% CI: - 0.66, - 0.27). Our analysis of subgroups suggests that the supervised combination of resistance training (RT) with aerobic training (AT) is the most effective physical exercise to reduce fatigue (SMD = - 1.13; 95% CI: - 2.09, - 0.17). The supervised RT was more effective (SMD = - 0.30; 95% CI: - 0.46, - 0.15) than supervised AT or mind-body techniques. It was observed that only during chemotherapy, women with breast cancer in the intervention groups showed a significant reduction in fatigue (SMD = - 0.38; 95% CI: - 0.55 to - 0.20). CONCLUSION Physical exercise during adjuvant chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy in women with breast cancer can be considered beneficial in reducing fatigue, especially for women undergoing chemotherapy and for supervised training of resistance or combined RT and AT.

Abstract
The COVID-19 outbreak presents a serious health challenges, with Australia enforcing tight restrictions, impacting sporting activities and sleep health of many Australians. Routine lifestyle patterns (physical activity and employment) are important to maintaining overall sleep health. Current literature indicates COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected the employment status and sport engagement. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of physical activity during COVID-19 on sleep health, and its association with employment and sport engagement of community-level athletes throughout Australia. Participants self-reported sleep health prior to COVID-19 (pre-sleep) and over the month prior to data collection (during-sleep) using the validated 5-item Satisfaction Alertness Timing Efficiency and Duration questionnaire (SATED). Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test assessed the difference in pre- and during perceived sleep health scores. A generalized linear model was used to assess the impact of sporting and demographic factors on a community athlete’s change in perceived sleep health score. A total of 139 community-level Australian athletes responded. The majority of participants were aged 18–30 and engaged in full-time employment prior to COVID-19 (n = 82, 54%). Eight percent of participants were unemployed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic (n = 12, 8%). Our findings show that sleep health values were higher during COVID-19, with 91.4% of respondents able to maintain some form of physical activity during the pandemic. Together, our results show better sleep health scores reported by the respondents who maintained or lost employment and maintained sporting engagements during the pandemic.

Study on the Conduction Analysis and Blocking Intervention Scheme of Emotional Disorders between Cancer Patients and Their Families. Abstract
Objective To analyze the transmission and blocking intervention scheme of emotional disorders between cancer patients and their families. Methods About 150 patients with cancer and 150 family members with mood disorders treated in a tertiary hospital in North China from March 2021 to Octobor2021 were enrolled. The patients were randomly assigned into control group and study group. The control group received routine intervention, and the study group received the diagnosis, intervention, and treatment strategies of doctor-patient-affective disorder. The factors related to the transmission of emotional disorders between cancer patients and their families were analyzed, and the alterations of anxiety, depression, social support, and satisfaction of the two groups were compared under different blocking intervention schemes. Results (1) Univariate analysis indicated that there were significant differences in family age, family income, sex, location of tumor, course of disease, TNM stage, somatic symptoms, and the incidence of anxiety and depression. There exhibited no significant difference between the gender of the family, the years of education of the family, the occupational status of the family, the relationship between the family and the patient, the mode of payment of the patient's medical expenses, the age of the patient, the mode of treatment of the patient, the degree of knowledge of the disease, and the incidence of anxiety and depression (P > 0.05). The anxiety and depression status of relatives were taken as dependent variables, and the age of family members, family income status, sex of patients, location of tumor, course of disease, TNM stage, and physical symptoms of patients were taken as independent variables, and the data were analyzed by Logistic regression analysis. Logistic regression analysis indicated that family income, tumor location, disease course, TNM stage, and somatic symptoms were the risk factors of anxiety and depression in relatives. (2) Comparison of social support status and intergroup, the objective support, subjective support, support utilization, and total score of social support in the study group were higher compared to the control group. In terms of the depression score before intervention, there exhibited no significant difference (P > 0.05), but after intervention, the depression score of the two groups decreased, and the depression score of the study group was lower compared to the control group before intervention, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4 weeks after intervention (P < 0.05). In terms of the anxiety score before intervention, there exhibited no significant difference (P > 0.05), but after intervention, the anxiety score of the two groups decreased, and the anxiety score of the study group was lower compared to the control group before intervention, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4 weeks after intervention (P < 0.05). Comparison of the satisfaction between the two groups and the study group was very satisfied in 56 cases, satisfactory in 14 cases, and general in 5 cases, and the satisfaction rate was 100.00%. The control group was very satisfied in 35 cases, satisfactory in 23 cases, general in 12 cases, and dissatisfied in 5 cases, and the satisfaction rate was 93.33%. The satisfaction of the study group was higher compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Family income, tumor location, course of disease, TNM stage, and somatic symptoms are the risk factors of anxiety and depression in relatives. After establishing the diagnosis, intervention and treatment strategies of doctor-patient-affective disorder, the emotional disorder of family members of cancer patients, is significantly promoted, and the intervention satisfaction is high, so the scheme is worth promoting.

The relationship between sleep hygiene, mood, and insomnia symptoms in men with prostate cancer. Support Care Cancer 2022; 30:4055-4064. Abstract
PURPOSE Insomnia symptoms are commonly experienced by men after prostate cancer (PCa) treatment. Here we explored how sleep hygiene behaviours and psychological symptoms are associated with insomnia symptoms in PCa patients. METHODS An online survey was posted on social media and sent to mailing lists of PCa and general cancer organisations. The survey collected information on demographic, sleep hygiene, and psychological symptoms using validated questionnaires. RESULTS Data from 142 participants were compared based on the absence (age = 68.3 ± 8.9 years) and presence (age = 66.6 ± 9.0 years) of insomnia symptoms. Participants with insomnia symptoms had significantly higher levels of anxiety, depression, fatigue, and sleepiness as well as poorer sleep hygiene than those without insomnia symptoms. Control variables (age, number of comorbidities, and BMI) accounted for 11.9% of the variance in insomnia symptoms. Including treatment history contributed to an additional 1.6% of the variance in insomnia symptoms. Adding sleepiness, fatigue, anxiety, and depressive symptoms to the model explained an additional 44.6% of the variance in insomnia symptoms. Furthermore, including the sleep hygiene item 'I think, plan, or worry when I am in bed' and 'I sleep in an uncomfortable bedroom' explained an additional 3.6% of the variance in insomnia symptoms. CONCLUSIONS Poor sleep hygiene, fatigue, sleepiness, anxiety, and depressive symptoms were all associated with worse insomnia symptoms in PCa patients. Improving sleep hygiene and treating psychological conditions may potentially help prevent and/or alleviate insomnia symptoms in PCa patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Our study aimed to investigate the level of depression, anxiety, and fatigue in patients with leukemias, and analyze the influence of sleep duration on the mental symptoms of patients with leukemias. METHODS A total of 127 patients were enrolled in our study and completed the questionnaire survey. Self-Assessment Depression Scale (SDS), Self-Assessment Anxiety Scale (SAS), and the Fatigue Scale-14 (FS-14) were adopted. The patient's lifestyle information, including exercise, alcohol abuse, and smoking, was obtained from the patient's self-report. RESULTS Depression score of patients with sleep duration >8 hours (long duration group) was 56.21±11.63, which was significantly lower than that of patients sleep duration between 6 and 8 hours (medium duration group) with 59.61±8.77 and patients sleep <6 hours (short duration group) with 64.82±6.42 (P = 0.007). Similarly, the anxiety score of long duration group, medium duration group and short duration group was 45.36±11.41, 48.26±6.96 and 53.53±5.87, respectively (P = 0.005). The fatigue score of short duration group is 8.47±2.45, which is higher than others (P = 0.046). To further identify the relationship, we evaluated physical fatigue and mental fatigue levels in patients with or without symptoms of depression. We found that patients with symptoms of depression have a higher score both in physical fatigue and mental fatigue (all p < 0.001). Similar trend was observed in patients with or without symptoms of anxiety (all p < 0.001). However, alzhough patients with leukemia in long duration group have the highest score of physical fatigue (p = 0.016), no significant difference in mental fatigue was found in different sleeping duration group (p = 0.587). Furthermore, multivariate analyses were conducted and revealed that sleep duration was the independent factor associated with depression (OR = 0.270, P = 0.003) and anxiety (OR = 0.473, P = 0.010). CONCLUSION For leukemia patients with short sleep duration, a prompt evaluation of their level of depression, anxiety, and fatigue and the initiation of timely interventions is essential.
