Abstract
Purpose We aimed to evaluate the precision of preoperative colonoscopic tattooing and intraoperative colonoscopic tumor localization in determining distal surgical margins for left-sided colorectal cancer surgery. Methods This retrospective study included 30 patients who underwent laparoscopic colorectal surgery, preoperative colonoscopic tattooing, and intraoperative colonoscopic localization for colorectal cancer at our center between July 2020 and March 2024. Clinical data were collected, and the precision of these methods was assessed by measuring the differences between the target resection margin and the actual pathological resection margin. Results In four patient cases, the indocyanine green tattoo was not visible in the laparoscopic surgical field. The average stained length of the tattoo was 2.89 cm, with a mean distance of 1.18 cm between the low margin of the tattoo and the cancer. The difference between the target distal resection margin by intraoperative colonoscopic localization and the actual pathological resection margin was 0.88 cm. No complications related to the intraoperative colonoscopy were observed. Conclusion Preoperative tattooing showed limitations, such as spreading and occasional invisibility. Intraoperative colonoscopic localization proved to be an effective method for achieving more precise distal surgical margins in left-sided colorectal cancer surgery.

Abstract
PURPOSE Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) can detect occult nodal metastasis. We have previously reported the safety and feasibility of indocyanine green (ICG)-guided SLNB for clinical stage II/III lower rectal cancer (RC). However, little is known about the influence of lateral pelvic SLNB using ICG on oncological outcomes. The present study aimed to evaluate the prognostic impact of lateral pelvic SLNB on oncological outcomes compared with prophylactic lateral lymph node dissection (LLND). METHODS Participants comprised consecutive patients with clinical stage II/III lower RC who underwent lateral pelvic SLNB or prophylactic LLND (Non-SLNB) between January 2010 and December 2020. The primary outcome measure was the 5-year cumulative incidence of local recurrence (LR). Secondary endpoints included cancer-specific survival (CSS), overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), local recurrence-free survival (LRFS), and distant recurrence-free survival (DRFS). RESULTS Among the 150 eligible patients included, 79 patients underwent lateral pelvic SLNB. Of those 79 patients, 4 patients who were SLNB-positive underwent LLND. LLND was omitted for the 75 patients who were SLNB-negative. Median follow-up was 61.0 months (range, 1.3-143.2 months). The overall recurrence rate was 30.7% (46 patients), with LR in 12.0% (18 patients). LR comprised lateral lymph node recurrence in 2.6% and central pelvic recurrence in 9.4%. No significant differences were seen between groups in terms of the frequency of LR or in CSS, OS, RFS, LRFS, or DRFS. CONCLUSION Oncological outcomes were not different between the SLNB and Non-SLNB groups. ICG-guided SLNB appears promising as a method for determining indications for LLND.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In laparoscopic colorectal surgery, accurate localization of a tumor is essential for ensuring an adequate ablative margin. Therefore, a new method, near-infrared laparoscopy combined with intraoperative colonoscopy, was developed for visualizing the contour of a cecal tumor from outside of the bowel. The method was used after it was verified on a model that employed a silicone tube. CASE PRESENTATION The patient was a 77-year-old man with a cecal tumor near the appendiceal orifice. Laparoscopy was used to clamp of the terminal ileum, and a colonoscope was then inserted through the anus to the cecum. The laparoscope in the normal light mode could not be used to identify the cecal tumor. However, a laparoscope in the near-infrared ray mode could clearly visualize the contour of the cecal tumor from outside of the bowel, and the tumor could be safely resected by a stapler. The histopathological diagnosis of the resected specimen was adenocarcinoma with an invasion depth of M and a clear negative margin. CONCLUSIONS This is the first report of the laparoscopic detection of the contour of a cecal tumor from outside the bowel. This technique is useful and safe for contouring tumors in laparoscopic colorectal surgery and can be used in various surgeries that combine endoscopy and laparoscopy.

When compared with traditional laparoscopic methods, robotic techniques offer distinct advantages. Their true potential shines in surgeries involving complex anatomical regions, where the robot's enhanced dexterity and range of motion prove invaluable. The three-dimensional, magnified view provided by robotic systems further boosts surgical precision and clarity. These advantages render robotic assistance especially suitable for colorectal surgeries, notably in intricate areas such as the rectum and endoluminal spaces. As the medical world emphasizes minimally invasive surgical methods, there's a pressing need to evolve and optimize robotic techniques in colorectal surgery. This article traces the evolution of robotic interventions in colorectal surgeries, highlighting both its historical milestones and anticipated future trends. We'll also explore emerging robotic tools and systems set to reshape the colorectal surgical arena.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common deadly cancer. Early detection and accurate staging of CRC enhance good prognosis and better treatment outcomes. Rectal cancer staging is the cornerstone for selecting the best treatment approach. The standard gold method for rectal cancer staging is pelvic MRI. After staging, combining surgery and chemoradiation is the standard management aiming for a curative outcome. Textural analysis (TA) is a radiomic process that quantifies lesions' heterogenicity by measuring pixel distribution in digital imaging. MRI textural analysis (MRTA) of rectal cancer images is growing in current literature as a future predictor of outcomes of rectal cancer management, such as pathological response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT), survival, and tumour recurrence. MRTA techniques could validate alternative approaches in rectal cancer treatment, such as the wait-and-watch (W&W) approach in pathologically complete responders (pCR) following NCRT. We consider this a significant step towards implementing precision management in rectal cancer. In this narrative review, we summarize the current knowledge regarding the potential role of TA in rectal cancer management in predicting the prognosis and clinical outcomes, as well as aim to delineate the challenges which obstruct the implementing of this new modality in clinical practice.

Abstract
Background In gastrectomies, especially subtotal gastrectomies and operations on the gastroesophageal junction, identifying the exact location of the tumor and establishing the appropriate resection line is very important. Accurate resection lines have a major impact on the preservation of organ function and curability. Preservation of as much as possible of the remaining stomach, including the fornix, may be an important surgical goal for maintaining an adequate postoperative quality of life. In adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction, the height of the esophageal dissection may affect reconstruction of the transhiatal approach. Methods We perform a new technique, near infrared ray-guided surgery, for the accurate localization of a tumor using the Firefly technology of the daVinci Xi system and intra-operative upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. We used this new technique for cases of upper gastric cancer or adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction. In this retrospective study, we examined to determine the extent (mm) of the tumor invasion of the esophagus, visualization of near infrared ray contained within endoscopic light, and distance from the proximal margin of the tumor to the surgical cut line on rapid histopathology and in the permanent preparation, including the operative videos and extracted specimens. Results We performed near infrared ray-guided surgery for 12 patients with gastric cancer or adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction, and the near infrared ray was clearly seen as green light with Firefly mode in all the patients. Near infrared ray-guided surgery was useful for obtaining localization of the tumor. In addition, it was possible to resect organ with adequate margins from tumor. Rapid intraoperative histopathological examinations confirmed that the resected specimens had negative margins. None of the patients required additional resection. Conclusions We believe that because near infrared ray-guided surgery can provide an accurate resection line, it will be useful for the resection of upper gastric cancer and adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction. It will also provide patients with a good postoperative quality of life after surgery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Laparoscopic localization of gastrointestinal tumors has long been an important objective. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical application of a magnetic tracer technique during laparoscopic-assisted surgery. METHODS Fifty-seven patients with gastrointestinal tumors, who voluntarily underwent endoscopic marking between May 2019 and May 2020, were enrolled. A magnetic ring was clamped onto tissues adjacent to the lesion and released during preoperative endoscopy. Then, another magnet ring or laparoscopic instrument was delivered to the wall of the digestive tract contralateral to the lesion and attracted, thus achieving accurate intraoperative localization. Observational evaluation included data regarding preoperative marking, intraoperative localization, operation, and safety. RESULTS Fifty-six of the 57 (98.2%) patients with gastric tumors (n = 35), duodenal tumors (n = 1), and colorectal tumors (n = 20), successfully underwent marking, localization, and resection. The mean margins of proximal and distal resection of colorectal tumors were 106 and 78 mm, respectively. The mean (± SD) duration of endoscopic marking and laparoscopic localization for gastric/duodenal and colorectal tumors were 5.3 ± 0.3, 1.0 ± 0.1, 5.5 ± 0.4, and 1.0 ± 0.1 min, respectively. No complications occurred in 56 of the 57 patients. CONCLUSIONS The magnetic tracer technique demonstrated promising potential as a localization method for gastrointestinal tumors, with superior safety, effectiveness, rapidity, and convenience.

Passive Radio-Frequency Identification Tag-Based Indoor Localization in Multi-Stacking Racks for Warehousing. APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL 2020. Abstract
Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology-based real-time indoor location awareness has been widely studied. In this paper, a passive RFID-based indoor inventory localization method for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is proposed to effectively manage their indoor inventory tracking in terms of the multi-stacking racking (MSR). To achieve this, we introduce a concept of reference tags and a calculation of measurement for the distance between the RFID reader and reference tag to improve the accuracy of the item location recognition. To illustrate the efficacy and applicability of the method, an empirical case study that applies it to an electronic device manufacturing company is conducted. It was noted that there was no significant difference in the location awareness rate of the proposed system compared with the existing active RFID-based methods. Also, it is demonstrated that the construction can be relatively inexpensive in terms of identifying the location of the items loaded in MSR and relatively narrow areas using a passive tag. This advantage makes it suitable for SMEs that have issues with large-scale facility investment, applying the method to compare the location difference between the registered location information in the inventory system and the actual location of the item in the rack.
