Abstract
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are highly carcinogenic substances and accumulate in water bodies through various industries. Due to their harmful effects on humans, it is very important to monitor PAHs in various water resources. In the present work, we report an electrochemical sensor based on silver nanoparticles synthesized using mushroom-derived carbon dots for the simultaneous determination of anthracene and naphthalene, for the first time. Pleurotus species mushroom was used to synthesize the carbon dots (C-dots) via the hydrothermal method and these C-dots were used as a reducing agent for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The synthesized AgNPs have been characterized through UV-Visible and FTIR spectroscopy, DLS, XRD, XPS, FE-SEM, and HR-TEM. Well-characterized AgNPs were used to modify glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) by the drop-casting method. Ag-NPs/GCE has shown strong electrochemical activity towards the oxidation of anthracene and naphthalene at well-separated potentials in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) at pH 7.0. The sensor exhibited a wide linear working range of 250 nM to 1.15 mM for anthracene and 500 nM to 842 μM for naphthalene with the corresponding lowest detection limits (LODs) of 112 nM and 383 nM respectively with extraordinary anti-interference ability against many possible interferents. The fabricated sensor showed high stability and reproducibility. The usefulness of the sensor for the monitoring of anthracene and naphthalene in a seashore soil sample has been demonstrated by the standard addition method. The sensor gave better results with a high recovery percentage indicating the first-ever device to detect two PAHs at the single electrode with the best analytical results.

Abstract
Rapid detection of nucleic acids (DNA or RNA) by inexpensive, selective, accurate, and highly sensitive methods is very important for biosensors. DNA-sensors based on DNA-modifying enzymes for fast determination and monitoring of pathogenic (Zika, Dengue, SARS-Cov-2 (inducer of COVID-19), human papillomavirus, HIV, etc.) viruses and diagnosis of virus-induced diseases is a key factor of this overview. Recently, DNA-modifying enzymes (Taq DNA polymerase, Phi29 DNA polymerase) have been widely used for the diagnosis of virus or pathogenic disease by gold standard (PCR, qPCR, RT-qPCR) methods, therefore, alternative methods have been reviewed. The main mechanisms of DNA metabolism (replication cycle, amplification) and the genomeediting tool CRISPR-Cas9 are purposefully discussed in order to address strategic possibility to design DNA-sensors based on immobilized DNA-enzymes. However, the immobilization of biologically active proteins on a gold carrier technique with the ability to detect viral or bacterial nucleic acids is individual for each DNA-modifying enzyme group, due to a different number of active sites, C and N terminal locations and arrangement, therefore, individual protocols based on the 'masking' of active sites should be elaborated for each enzyme.

Abstract
The understanding of the interactions between nanomaterials, biomolecules, and polyphenols is fundamental in food chemistry, toxicology, and new emerging fields, such as nanomedicine. Here, we investigated the effect of the resveratrol, a principal actor in drug-delivery application on the interaction between bovine serum albumin (BSA), employed as a vector for the delivery of polyphenol drugs, and gold nanoparticle (gNP), the most promising tool in theranostic applications. Through a combination of experimental techniques, which includes an initial evaluation by dynamic light scattering and surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, we were able to evaluate the evolution of the gold nanoparticle aggregation with increasing ionic strength and the consequences of the BSA and resveratrol addition. To investigate the mechanisms of the interactions, we pursued at the single-molecule level using solid-state nanopore and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy. Our results show that without resveratrol, the BSA is adsorbed on the gNP in water or saline solution. In the presence of resveratrol, the BSA is normally absorbed on gNP in water, but the salt addition leads to its desorption. The resveratrol clearly plays a fundamental role, changing the protein behavior and making the BSA adsorption a reversible process in the presence of salt.

Abstract
Glucose oxidase (GOx) from Penicillium funiculosum 46.1 was purified using step-by-step ultrafiltration and it was characterized by spectrophotometric and spectrofluorometric methods. It was shown that spectra of GOx produced by P. funiculosum are typical for flavoproteins. Absorption spectrum has distinct peaks at 380 and 457 nm, excitation spectrum at 373 and 447 nm, and emission spectrum at 530 and 562 nm. The pH correlation of enzyme activity and catalytic characteristics in various buffer systems (phosphate (pH 5.0-9.0), citrate (pH 3.0-5.0), citrate-phosphate (pH 3.0-9.0), and universal (pH 3.0-9.0)) were registered. It was determined that the GOx is the most efficiently interacting with substrate (glucose) in phosphate buffer at pH 7.0 with k cat/K m = 21,825 M(-1) s(-1). Interaction of several different redox mediators (9,10-phenantroline-5,6-dione, 9,10-phenanthrenequinone, N-methylphenazonium methyl sulfate, ferrocene, ferrocenecarboxylic acid, α-methylferrocenemethanol, ferrocenecarboxaldehyde) with GOx from P. funiculosum was investigated by evaluation of the difference in fluorescence emission intensity of FAD(oxidized) and FADH2(reduced) forms. It was found that 9,10-phenantroline-5,6-dione and 9,10-phenanthrenequinone are the best redox mediators for this type of GOx.

Abstract
In this work, poly (diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA)-capped gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) functionalized graphene (G)/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) nanocomposites were fabricated. Based on the electrostatic attraction, the G/MWCNTs hybrid material can be decorated with AuNPs uniformly and densely. The new hierarchical nanostructure can provide a larger surface area and a more favorable microenvironment for electron transfer. The AuNPs/G/MWCNTs nanocomposite was used as a novel immobilization platform for glucose oxidase (GOD). Direct electron transfer (DET) was achieved between GOD and the electrode. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), UV-vis spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were used to characterize the electrochemical biosensor. The glucose biosensor fabricated based on GOD electrode modified with AuNPs/G/MWCNTs demonstrated satisfactory analytical performance with high sensitivity (29.72mAM(-1)cm(-2)) and low limit of detection (4.8 µM). The heterogeneous electron transfer rate constant (ΚS) and the apparent Michaelis-Menten constant (Km) of GOD were calculated to be 11.18s(-1) and 2.09 mM, respectively. With satisfactory selectivity, reproducibility, and stability, the nanostructure we proposed offered an alternative for electrode fabricating and glucose biosensing.

Abstract
Polypyrrole (Ppy) is known as biocompatible material, which is used in some diverse biomedical applications and seeming to be a very promising for advanced biotechnological applications. In order to increase our understanding about biocompatibility of Ppy, in this study pure Ppy nanoparticles (Ppy-NPs) of fixed size and morphology were prepared by one-step oxidative polymerization and their cyto-compatibility was evaluated. The impact of different concentration of Ppy nanoparticles on primary mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEF), mouse hepatoma cell line (MH-22A), and human T lymphocyte Jurkat cell line was investigated. Cell morphology, viability/proliferation after the treatment by Ppy nanoparticles was evaluated. Obtained results showed that Ppy nanoparticles at low concentrations are biocompatible, while at high concentrations they became cytotoxic for Jurkat, MEF and MH-22A cells, and it was found that cytotoxic effect is dose-dependent.

Abstract
Amperometric glucose biosensors utilizing commercially available FAD-dependent glucose dehydrogenases from two strains of Aspergillus species are described. Enzymes were immobilized on nanocomposite electrode consisting of multi-walled carbon nanotubes by entrapment between chitosan layers. Unlike the common glucose oxidase based biosensor, the presented biosensors appeared to be O(2)-independent. The optimal amount of enzymes, working potential and pH value of working media of the glucose biosensors were determined. The biosensor utilizing enzyme isolated from Aspergillus sp. showed linearity over the range from 50 to 960 μM and from 70 to 620 μM for enzyme from Aspergillus oryzae. The detection limits were 4.45 μM and 4.15 μM, respectively. The time of response was found to be 60 s. The biosensors showed excellent operational stability - no loss of sensitivity after 100 consecutive measurements and after the storage for 4 weeks at 4 °C in phosphate buffer solution. When biosensors were held in a dessicator at room temperature without use, they kept the same response ability at least after 6 months. Finally, the results obtained from measurements of beverages and wine samples were compared with those obtained with the enzymatic-spectrophotometric and standard HPLC methods, respectively. Good correlation between results in case of analysis of real samples and good analytical performance of presented glucose biosensor allows to use presented concept for mass production and commercial use.
