Abstract
Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) plays an important role in the treatment of human diseases, environmental security and global food supply. In this study, the simple fluorescent indicators and MnO2 nanosheets were developed and integrated to establish a ratiometric fluorescence sensing system for the detection of AChE activity. Two fluorescence signals could be recorded independently at the same excitation wavelength, which extended the detection range and enhanced the visibility of results. Fluorescence of F-PDA was quenched by MnO2 nanosheets on account of inner filtering effect. Meanwhile, the nonfluorescent OPD was catalytically oxidized to 2,3-diaminophenazine by MnO2 nanosheets. The acetylcholine (ATCh) was catalytically hydrolyzed by AChE to enzymatic thiocholine, which decomposed MnO2 to Mn2+, recovered the fluorescence of F-PDA and reduced the emission of ox-OPD. Utilizing the fluorescence intensity ratio F468/F558 as the signal readout, the ratiometric fluorescence method was established to detect AChE activity. Under the excitation wavelength of 410 nm, the ratio F460/F558 against the AChE concentration demonstrated two linear relationships in the range 0.05 -1.0 and 1.0-50 U·L- 1 with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.073 U·L- 1. The method was applied to the detection of AChE activity and the analysis of the inhibitor Huperzine-A. Due to the advantages of high sensitivity and favorable selectivity, the method possesses an application prospect in the activity deteceion of AChE and the screening of inhibitors.

Abstract
Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is the key enzyme associated with neurotransmission, and thus many drugs have been explored for their inhibitory effect on AChE, such as donepezil for Alzheimer's disease and organophosphorus pesticides (OPs). Compared with clinical trials, in vitro screening bioassays for AChE inhibitors are preferable in terms of operability and cost. Herein, we developed an easy-to-operate nanozyme-based colorimetric assay for the evaluation of AChE inhibitory strength with excellent anti-interference ability and low dependence on professional equipment. The metal-free carbon nanozyme NC900 played an important role in the signal output due to its features of efficient oxidase-like activity, excellent water dispersibility, high stability and low color interference. Employing various AChE-targeted or non-targeted pesticides as examples, the as-proposed assay exhibited excellent distinguishing ability for different chemicals. The higher absorption intensity at 652 nm represents a stronger inhibitory effect, as well as blue color. In addition, this method was used to study the influence of pH on the degradation of prodrugs, and the efficiency of mixed pesticides. This work provides a simple and reliable assay to screen AChE inhibitors, which is promising for the preliminary evaluation of a large number of potential candidates.

Abstract
Atherosclerosis is the primary cause of cardiovascular diseases, such as myocardial infarction and stroke, which account for the highest death toll worldwide. Macrophage is the major contributor to atherosclerosis progression, and therefore, macrophage-associated pathological process is considered an extremely important target for the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerosis. However, the existing clinical strategies still have many bottlenecks and challenges in atherosclerosis’s early detection and management. Nanomedicine, using various nanoparticles/nanocarriers for medical purposes, can effectively load therapeutic agents, significantly improve their stability and accurately deliver them to the atherosclerotic plaques. In this review, we summarized the latest progress of the macrophage-targeted nanomedicine in the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerosis, and their potential applications and clinical benefits are also discussed.

Abstract
Green tea is a popular beverage and is widely consumed due to its taste and antioxidative polyphenols. Herein, a smartphone-based colorimetric reader using cobalt oxyhydroxide (CoOOH) nanorings has been successfully applied to detect antioxidants in green tea with high reliability and robustness. By exploiting the oxidase-mimicking activity, the as-synthesized CoOOH nanorings replaces natural enzymes to directly catalyze oxidate colorless 3,3 ´ ,5,5 ´ -tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), while antioxidants can disintegrate CoOOH, leading to an antioxidant concentration-dependent color change. Benefiting from the CoOOH nanorings-based colorimetric strategy, a smartphone-assistant nanosensor was devised for portable and visual detection of antioxidants in green tea. The proposed method can be extended to visual detection of a diverse range of diseases by responding to their specific antioxidant, and thus provide a pivotal disease toolbox that is compatible for development at the point-of-care.

Abstract
Photochromic materials have attracted increasing attention. Here, we report a novel photo-reversible color switching system based on oxygen-vacancy-engineered MoOx nanostructures with water/N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as solvents. In this work, the system rapidly changed from colorless to blue under UV irradiation (360-400 nm) and slowly recovered its colorless state under visible light irradiation. The obtained oxygen vacancy-engineered MoOx nanostructures exhibited good repeatability, chemical stability, and cycling stability. Upon UV light irradiation, H+ was intercalated into layered MoOx nanostructures and the Mo6+ concentration in the HxMoOx decreased, while the Mo5+ concentration increased and increased oxygen vacancies changed the color to blue. Then, it recovered its original color slowly without UV light irradiation. What is more, the system was highly sensitive to UV light even on cloudy days. Compared with other reported photochromic materials, the system in this study has the advantage of facile preparation and provides new insights for the development of photochromic materials without dyes.

Abstract
Gel filtration is a versatile technique employed for biological molecules and nanoparticles, offering their reproducible classification based on size and shape. Colloidal nanoparticles are of significant interest in biomedical applications due to a large number of solution-based bioconjugation procedures. Nevertheless, the inherent polydispersity of the nanoparticles produced by various techniques necessitates the employment of high yield separation and purification techniques. Here we demonstrate the employment of gel filtration on non-stoichiometric plasmonic MoO x nanoparticles, prepared by an oxidation process during liquid-phase exfoliation of few-layer MoS2 nanosheets. This resulted in the separation of two types of MoO x particles, in the form of two different chromatographic fractions. They showed different sizes, morphological and optical properties. The fraction containing smaller particles with diameters of 1-4 nm, exhibited an increased absorbance peak in the near IR region and responded with a significant temperature increase to laser irradiation at the wavelength close to the maximal absorption. The fraction with the larger particles from 3 up to 10 nm, showed weak photoluminescence and a preferred orientation upon the deposition on a planar substrate. However, it had no absorbance in the near IR compared to the former fraction. According to our knowledge, this is the first time that the gel filtration was applied to the separation of molybdenum oxide nanomaterials. This step ensured the isolation of plasmonic MoO x nanoparticles suitable for further bioconjugation and target photothermal treatment.
