Abstract
Highly selective and sensitive in vivo neurotransmitter dynamic monitoring of the central nervous system has long been a challenging endeavor. Here, an implantable and biocompatible microsensor with excellent performances was reported by electrodepositing poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (PEDOT-ERGO) nanocomposites and poly(tannic acid) (pTA) sequentially on the carbon fiber electrode (CFE) surface, and its feasibility in in vivo electrochemical sensing applications were demonstrated. Due to the synergistic electrocatalytic effect of PEDOT-ERGO nanocomposites with the negative-charged pTA on dopamine (DA) redox reaction, the microsensor exhibits high detection sensitivities of 1.1 and 0.37 nA μM-1 in the detection ranges of 0.02-0.5 and 0.5-20 μM with a low limit of detection of 9.2 nM. Also, the microsensor shows excellent selectivity, good sensing stability, repeatability, and reproducibility. In addition, the highly hydrophilic and negative-charged pTA inhibits the nonspecific adsorption of hydrophobic proteins, which endows the microsensor with good antifouling ability. Moreover, DA dynamics in rat brain were successfully monitored in real time, and the selective sensing ability of the microsensor in vivo was also demonstrated. The present study provides a new method for selective dynamics monitoring of DA in the brain, which would help to better understand the pathological and physiological functions of DA.

Abstract
In this study, the effects of phosphate buffered saline (PBS) and graphene oxide (GO) as supporting electrolytes and dopants on the electropolymerization process of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) were investigated. It was found that the PEDOT-ERGO nanocomposites obtained by a simple one-step electrochemical redox polymerization method using GO as the only supporting electrolyte and dopant possess excellent electrochemical properties. Then, the PEDOT-ERGO nanocomposites were used as electrode substrate to further modify with AuNPs, and an electrochemical aptasensor based on AuNPs/PEDOT-ERGO nanocomposites was successfully constructed for the sensitive and selective determination of dopamine (DA). Comparison of the cyclic voltammetric response of different neurotransmitters before and after aptamer assembly showed that the aptamer significantly improved the selectivity of the sensor for DA. The low detection limit of 1.0 μM (S/N = 3) indicated the good electrochemical performance of the PEDOT-ERGO nanocomposite film. Moreover, the aptasensor showed good recoveries in 50-fold diluted fetal bovine serum with RSD values all less than 5 % (n = 5), indicating that the PEDOT-ERGO nanocomposites and the electrochemical aptasensor have promising applications in other neurochemicals assay and biomedical analysis.

Abstract
Early-stage detection and diagnosis of diseases is essential to the prompt commencement of treatment regimens, curbing the spread of the disease, and improving human health. Thus, the accurate detection of disease biomarkers through the development of robust, sensitive, and selective diagnostic tools has remained cutting-edge scientific research for decades. Due to their merits of being selective, stable, simple, and having a low preparation cost, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are increasingly becoming artificial substitutes for natural receptors in the design of state-of-the-art sensing devices. While there are different MIP preparation approaches, electrochemical synthesis presents a unique and outstanding method for chemical sensing applications, allowing the direct formation of the polymer on the transducer as well as simplicity in tuning the film properties, thus accelerating the trend in the design of commercial MIP-based sensors. This review evaluates recent achievements in the applications of electrosynthesized MIP sensors for clinical analysis of disease biomarkers, identifying major trends and highlighting interesting perspectives on the realization of commercial MIP-endowed testing devices for rapid determination of prevailing diseases.

Abstract
In this article, we review recent progress concerning the development of sensorial platforms based on graphene derivatives and conducting polymers (CPs), alternatively deposited or co-deposited on the working electrode (usually a glassy carbon electrode; GCE) using a simple potentiostatic method (often cyclic voltammetry; CV), possibly followed by the deposition of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) on the electrode surface (ES). These materials have been successfully used to detect an extended range of biomolecules of clinical interest, such as uric acid (UA), dopamine (DA), ascorbic acid (AA), adenine, guanine, and others. The most common method is electrochemical synthesis. In the composites, which are often combined with metallic NPs, the interaction between the graphene derivatives-including graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (RGO), or graphene quantum dots (GQDs)-and the CPs is usually governed by non-covalent functionalization through π-π interactions, hydrogen bonds, and van der Waals (VW) forces. The functionalization of GO, RGO, or GQDs with CPs has been shown to speed up electron transfer during the oxidation process, thus improving the electrochemical response of the resulting sensor. The oxidation mechanism behind the electrochemical response of the sensor seems to involve a partial charge transfer (CT) from the analytes to graphene derivatives, due to the overlapping of π orbitals.

Abstract
An innovative, ternary nanocomposite composed of overoxidized poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (OPEDOT), gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), and electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) was prepared on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) (OPEDOT–AuNPs–ERGO/GCE) through homogeneous chemical reactions and heterogeneous electrochemical methods. The morphology, composition, and structure of this nanocomposite were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The electrochemical properties of the OPEDOT–AuNPs–ERGO/GCE were investigated by cyclic voltammetry using potassium ferricyanide and hexaammineruthenium(III) chloride redox probe systems. This modified electrode shows excellent electro-catalytic activity for dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) under physiological pH conditions, but inhibits the oxidation of ascorbic acid (AA). Linear voltammetric responses were obtained when DA concentrations of approximately 4.0–100 μM and UA concentrations of approximately 20–100 μM were used. The detection limits (S/N=3) for DA and UA were 1.0 and 5.0 μM, respectively, under physiological conditions and in the presence of 1.0 mM of AA. This developed method was applied to the simultaneous detection of DA and UA in human urine, where satisfactory recoveries from 96.7% to 105.0% were observed. This work demonstrates that the developed OPEDOT–AuNPs–ERGO ternary nanocomposite, with its excellent ion-selectivity and electro-catalytic activity, is a promising candidate for the simultaneous detection of DA and UA in the presence of AA in physiological and pathological studies. Facile preparation of graphene-based hybrid composite OPEDOT–AuNPs–ERGO onto GCE. The OPEDOT–AuNPs–ERGO/GCE was endued with excellent electrocatalytic activity and ion-selectivity. The OPEDOT–AuNPs–ERGO/GCE was found highly selective and sensitive determination of DA and UA in the presence of AA. The method is expected to be applied to the detection of DA and UA under physiological and pathological conditions.

Abstract
An impedance-transducer sensor was developed for in situ detection of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and ammonia (NH3) in aqueous media. Using cyclic voltammetry (CV), polypyrrole (PPy) was deposited on the surface of the microfabricated interdigitated gold electrode. Due to the proton acid doping effect of H2S on PPy and ionic conduction of the film, the sensor showed a decreasing impedance response to H2S unlike other reducing chemicals, i.e., ammonia (NH3). The recorded faradaic data was then associated with an equivalent circuit and compared with that of NH3 to examine the selectivity of the sensor. An electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis was applied to the mixture of H2S and NH3 prepared at different ratios for the concentrations ranging from 2 ppm to 20 ppm (below 2-ppm, no response was observed due to the formation of NH4HS, not sensible with PPy). The principal component analysis (PCA) was used to train a real-time prediction model for both classification (for the type of the analyte) and regression (the concentration of the analyte). The results showed the high performance of the sensor in determining individual analytes while the model was able to accurately predict the amount of H2S and NH3 in the mixture.

Abstract
The use of graphene and its derivatives in the development of electrochemical sensors has been growing in recent decades. Part of this success is due to the excellent characteristics of such materials, such as good electrical and mechanical properties and a large specific surface area. The formation of composites and nanocomposites with these two materials leads to better sensing performance compared to pure graphene and conductive polymers. The increased large specific surface area of the nanocomposites and the synergistic effect between graphene and conducting polymers is responsible for this interesting result. The most widely used methodologies for the synthesis of these materials are still based on chemical routes. However, electrochemical routes have emerged and are gaining space, affording advantages such as low cost and the promising possibility of modulation of the structural characteristics of composites. As a result, application in sensor devices can lead to increased sensitivity and decreased analysis cost. Thus, this review presents the main aspects for the construction of nanomaterials based on graphene oxide and conducting polymers, as well as the recent efforts made to apply this methodology in the development of sensors and biosensors.

Abstract
A unique nanocomposite was fabricated using negatively charged manganese dioxide nanoparticles, poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) and reduced graphene oxide (MnO2/PEDOT/rGO). The nanocomposite was deposited on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) functionalized with amino groups. The modified GCE was used to electrochemically detect dopamine (DA). The surface morphology, charge effect and electrochemical behaviours of the modified GCE were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, respectively. The MnO2/PEDOT/rGO/GCE exhibited excellent performance towards DA sensing with a linear range between 0.05 and 135 µM with a lowest detection limit of 30 nM (S/N = 3). Selectivity towards DA was high in the presence of high concentrations of the typical interferences ascorbic acid and uric acid. The stability and reproducibility of the electrode were good. The sensor accurately determined DA in human serum. The synergic effect of the multiple components of the fabricated nanocomposite were critical to the good DA sensing performance. rGO provided a conductive backbone, PEDOT directed the uniform growth of MnO2 and adsorbed DA via pi-pi and electrostatic interaction, while the negatively charged MnO2 provided adsorption and catalytic sites for protonated DA. This work produced a promising biosensor that sensitively and selectively detected DA.

Abstract
An amphiphilic taurocholic acid (TCA) doped polypyrrole (PPy) film (PPy/TCA) was used as a dynamic mimic membrane model to explore how switchable surface wettability influences amyloid aggregation. Our results indicate that the hydrophobic surface, not the hydrophilic surface, plays important roles in Aβ40 adsorption and aggregation.

Abstract
Electrochemical sensors appear as low-cost, rapid, easy to use, and in situ devices for determination of diverse analytes in a liquid solution. In that context, conducting polymers are much-explored sensor building materials because of their semiconductivity, structural versatility, multiple synthetic pathways, and stability in environmental conditions. In this state-of-the-art review, synthetic processes, morphological characterization, and nanostructure formation are analyzed for relevant literature about electrochemical sensors based on conducting polymers for the determination of molecules that (i) have a fundamental role in the human body function regulation, and (ii) are considered as water emergent pollutants. Special focus is put on the different types of micro- and nanostructures generated for the polymer itself or the combination with different materials in a composite, and how the rough morphology of the conducting polymers based electrochemical sensors affect their limit of detection. Polypyrroles, polyanilines, and polythiophenes appear as the most recurrent conducting polymers for the construction of electrochemical sensors. These conducting polymers are usually built starting from bifunctional precursor monomers resulting in linear and branched polymer structures; however, opportunities for sensitivity enhancement in electrochemical sensors have been recently reported by using conjugated microporous polymers synthesized from multifunctional monomers.

Abstract
Graphene oxide (GO)-modified polypyrrole (PPy) coatings were obtained by electrochemical methods in the presence of the anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The structure, morphology, and electrochemical properties of the coatings were assessed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic voltammetry at varying scan rates, respectively. The properties of the obtained coatings were analyzed with the GO and PPy loadings and electrodeposition mode. The hybrid coatings obtained galvanostatically showed a coarser appearance than those deposited by cyclic voltammetry CV mode and improved performance, respectively, which was further enhanced by GO and PPy loading. The capacitance enhancement can be attributed to the SDS surfactant that well dispersed the GO sheets, thus allowing the use of lower GO content for improved contribution, while the choice of suitable electrodeposition parameters is highly important for improving the applicability of GO-modified PPy coatings in energy storage applications.

Abstract
Two-dimensional porous graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) nanosheets were synthesized by low-cost and direct thermal oxidation. Porous g-C3N4 assembled with graphene oxide (GO) was immobilized on a glassy carbon electrode. The sensor was applied to simultaneous determination of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) with high performance. Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry were used to investigate electrochemical and electrocatalytic properties. The results indicate that the electrochemical sensor possesses high specific surface area, hierarchical pore structure and excellent signal response to AA, DA and UA. The oxidation potentials are well separated at around 0.15, 0.34 and 0.46 V for AA, DA and UA respectively. The determination limits for AA, DA and UA are 3.7 μM, 0.07 μM and 0.43 μM, respectively. The sensor was applied to tracking the three analytes in spiked serum samples with recovery 95.1~105.5% and relation standard deviations of less than 5%. Electrodeposited poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with graphene oxide for the simultaneous voltammetric determination of ascorbic acid, dopamine and uric acid. Mikrochim Acta 2020; 187:94. Abstract
Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) films were electrodeposited by cyclic voltammetry on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in aqueous solution. Three kinds of supporting electrolytes were used, viz. graphene oxide (GO), phosphate buffered saline (PBS), and GO in PBS, respectively. The surface morphology of the modified electrodes was characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The electrochemical performance of the modified electrodes was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy by using the hexacyanoferrate redox system. The results demonstrate that the PEDOT-GO/GCE, which was electropolymerized in aqueous solutions containing EDOT and GO, shows the best electrochemical activities compared with other modified electrodes. The electrochemical behaviors of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) were investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The PEDOT-GO/GCE exhibits enhanced electrocatalytic activities towards these important biomolecules. Under physiological pH conditions and in the mixed system of AA, DA and UA, the modified GCE exhibits the following figures of merit: (a) a linear voltammetric response in the concentration ranges of 100-1000 μM for AA, 6.0-200 μM for DA, and 40-240 μM for UA; (b) well separated oxidation peaks near 31, 213 and 342 mV (vs. saturated Ag/AgCl) for AA, DA and UA, respectively; and (c) detection of limits (at S/N = 3) of 20, 2.0 and 10 μM. The results demonstrate that GO, based on its relatively large number of anionic sites, can be used as the sole weak electrolyte and charge balance dopant for the preparation of functionally doped conducting polymers by electrodeposition. Abstract
In this work, we report the development of a simple and sensitive sensor based on graphite screen-printed electrodes (GSPEs) modified by a nanocomposite film for dopamine (DA) detection. The sensor was realized by electrodepositing polyaniline (PANI) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) onto the graphite working electrode. The sensor surface was fully characterized by means of the cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique using [Fe(CN)6]4-/3- and [Ru(NH3)6]2+/3+ as redox probes. The electrochemical behavior of the nanocomposite sensor towards DA oxidation was assessed by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in phosphate buffer saline at physiological pH. The sensor response was found to be linearly related to DA concentration in the range 1-100 μM DA, with a limit of detection of 0.86 μM. The performance of the sensor in terms of reproducibility and selectivity was also studied. Finally, the sensor was successfully applied for a preliminary DA determination in human serum samples.
