Abstract
Assessing the genomic evolution of Staphylococcus aureus can help us understand how the bacteria adapt to its environment. In this study, we aimed to assess the mutation rate within 144 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) carriers with a carriage time from 4 to 11 years, including some carriers who belonged to the same households. We found that 23 of the 144 individuals had completely different MRSA types over time and were therefore not long-term carriers of the same MRSA. From the remaining 121 individuals, we performed whole-genome sequencing (WGS) on 424 isolates and then compared these pairwise using core genome multilocus sequence typing (cgMLST) and single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analyses. We found a median within-host mutation rate in long-term MRSA carriers of 4.9 (3.4-6.9) SNPs/genome/year and 2.7 (1.8-4.2) allelic differences/genome/year, when excluding presumed recombination. Furthermore, we stratified the cohort into subgroups and found no significant difference between the median mutation rate of members of households, individuals with presumed continued exposure, e.g., from travel and persons without known continued exposure. Finally, we found that SNPs occurred at random within the genes in our cohort. Abstract
BACKGROUND Decolonization treatment of MRSA carriers is recommended in Denmark, except in households with MRSA-positive children <2 years old (wait-and-see approach). OBJECTIVES To investigate a wait-and-see approach in children 2-5 years old, and the effect of decolonization treatment of MRSA carriage in all children <6 years old. PATIENTS AND METHODS In this retrospective follow-up study, we included MRSA carriers <6 years old in the Capital Region of Denmark from 2007 to 2021. Data were collected from laboratory information systems and electronic patient records. We divided children into age groups of <2 years or 2-5 years and decolonization treatment versus no treatment. Treatment was chlorhexidine body washes and nasal mupirocin, sometimes supplemented with systemic antibiotics. Children were followed until becoming MRSA free, or censoring. The probability of becoming MRSA free was investigated with Cox regression (higher HRs indicate faster decolonization). RESULTS Of 348 included children, 226 were <2 years old [56/226 (25%) received treatment] and 122 were 2-5 years old [90/122 (74%) received treatment]. Multivariable analyses did not show a larger effect of decolonization treatment versus no treatment in <2-year-olds (HR 0.92, 95% CI 0.52-1.65) or 2-5-year-olds (HR 0.54, 95% CI 0.26-1.12). Without treatment, 2-5-year-olds tended to clear MRSA faster than <2-year-olds (HR 1.81, 95% CI 0.98-3.37). CONCLUSIONS We did not find a larger effect of decolonization treatment versus no treatment in children <6 years old, and 2-5-year-olds tended to become MRSA free faster than <2-year-olds. These results support a wait-and-see approach for all children <6 years old, but further studies are needed.

Abstract
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) colonization increases the risk of infection. Response to decolonization treatment is highly variable and determinants for successful decolonization or failure of eradication treatment are largely unknown. Insight into genetic predictors of eradication failure is potentially useful in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to explore genetic characteristics that are associated with MRSA decolonization failure. This cohort study was performed in a tertiary care hospital in the Netherlands. Patients with ≥ 1 positive MRSA culture from any site and with available whole -genome sequencing data of the MRSA isolate between 2017 and 2022 were included. Lineages, resistance, and virulence factors were stratified by MRSA decolonization outcome. In total, 56 patients were included: 12/56 (21%) with treatment failure and 44/56 (79%) with successful decolonization (with or without preceding treatment). A significant association was found between ciprofloxacin-resistant lineages and failure of eradication (OR 4.20, 95%CI 1.11-15.96, P = 0.04). Furthermore, livestock-associated MRSA and the major community-associated MRSA lineages ST6-t304 and ST8-t008 were associated with successful eradication treatment or spontaneous clearance. In conclusion, this explorative study showed a higher eradication failure rate in complicated MRSA carriers with ciprofloxacin-resistant MRSA lineages, which are predominantly healthcare-associated. Further studies are warranted to confirm the higher eradication failure risk of ciprofloxacin-resistant lineages, and identify the underlying mechanisms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) colonization increases infection risk in both patients and healthy individuals. Decolonization therapy has been proven to reduce S. aureus infections, but data on the effectiveness of individual decolonization strategies in community-onset MRSA carriage are scarce. OBJECTIVES The aim of this narrative review was to summarize the evidence on strategies for the elimination of MRSA colonization in community-onset MRSA carriers. SOURCES PubMed database was searched for studies on MRSA eradication, from inception to July 2023. CONTENT Topical therapy is proven to be effective in nasal-only carriage and in temporary load reduction. Mupirocin nasal ointment in combination with chlorhexidine body wash is highly effective in nasal-only MRSA carriers in the community as well. In patients with extra-nasal colonization, addition of orally administered antibiotics likely increases success rates compared with topical therapy alone. Studies on systemic treatment of extra-nasal MRSA decolonization are subject to a high heterogeneity of antimicrobial agents, treatment duration, and control groups. The majority of evidence supports the use of a combination of topical therapy with rifampin and another antimicrobial agent. Decolonization treatment with probiotics is a promising novel non-antibiotic strategy. However, achieving long-term decolonization is more likely in countries with low MRSA prevalence, given the risk of recolonization in a context of high MRSA prevalence. IMPLICATIONS The decision to pursue community-onset MRSA eradication treatment in the individual patient should be based on the combination of the treatment objective (short-term bacterial load reduction in health care settings vs. long-term eradication in community settings), and the likelihood of successful decolonization. The latter is influenced by both individual risk factors for treatment failure, and the risk of recolonization. The addition of a combination of systemic antibiotics is rational for extra-nasal long-term decolonization. To determine the most effective systemic antimicrobial agents in MRSA decolonization, more research is needed.

Abstract
Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is a pore-forming exotoxin produced by certain Staphylococcus (S.) aureus strains, which is responsible for the increased virulence of the pathogen. Thus, infections caused by PVL-positive S. aureus tend to recur. Usually, the infection is a smear infection, which can cause folliculitis and purulent lid margin inflammation in addition to the classic mucocutaneous abscesses. Recently, recurrent genitoanal infections caused by PVL-positive S. aureus have also been described. In most cases, this is a sexually transmitted disease. Currently, it is assumed that most infections are imported from abroad. In addition to treatment of these infections, decolonization should be performed for prophylaxis of recurrence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The nose and the throat are the most predominant colonizing sites of Staphylococcus aureus, and colonization is a risk factor for infection. Nasal colonization is well described; however, we have limited knowledge about S. aureus throat colonization. The main objective of this study was to explore differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in S. aureus throat isolate TR145 exposed to human tonsil epithelial cells (HTEpiC) by using RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and pathway analysis. DEGs in S. aureus at 1 or 3 hours (h) interaction with its host were explored. RESULTS S. aureus was co-cultured in absence and presence of tonsillar cells at 1 or 3 h. Over the 3 h time frame, the bacteria multiplied, but still caused only minor cytotoxicity. Upon exposure to tonsillar cell line, S. aureus changed its transcriptomic profile. A total of 508 DEGs were identified including unique (1 h, 160 DEGs and 3 h, 78 DEGs) and commonly shared genes (1 and 3 h, 270 DEGs). Among the DEGs, were genes encoding proteins involved in adhesion and immune evasion, as well as iron acquisition and transport. Reverse transcription qPCR was done on selected genes, and the results correlated with the RNA-seq data. CONCLUSION We have shown the suitability of using HTEpiC as an in vitro model for investigating key determinants in S. aureus during co-incubation with host cells. Several DEGs were unique after 1 or 3 h exposure to host cells, while others were commonly expressed at both time points. As their expression is induced upon meeting with the host, they might be explored further for future targets for intervention to prevent either colonization or infection in the throat.

Abstract
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a common bacterial pathogen that frequently colonizes healthy individuals, with potential to cause invasive infection. In Denmark, to keep the prevalence low, MRSA carriers are recommended to undergo decolonization treatments, but achieving decolonization is challenging. Knowledge about the factors contributing to decolonization is scarce. We aimed to identify bacterial genome and clinical factors influencing MRSA decolonization. We identified all new MRSA patients above 2 years of age within the Hvidovre catchment area, Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2017 and 2018. Carriers were defined as chronic carriers (cases) if they were MRSA positive after two or more treatments and as nonchronic carriers (controls) if they were MRSA free after the first or second treatment. Using whole-genome sequencing (WGS), we constructed a pangenome of bacterial strains. With the incorporation of bacterial genome and clinical patient data, machine learning and multivariate analyses were performed to determine the factors associated with decolonization. A total of 477 MRSA carriers were included. An age of ≥13 years was significantly associated with nonchronic carriage. We identified 278 bacterial genetic features that were statistically significantly associated with chronic carriage (P < 0.05 by Fisher's exact test). Chronic MRSA carriage was predicted with 68% accuracy using a combination of bacterial genome data and patient clinical data. Decolonization success is multifactorial. Apart from the 68% predicted accuracy found in this study, we estimate that the remaining 32% is a result of host factors and microbiome composition. IMPORTANCE Carriage of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other multiresistant bacteria is a prerequisite for infection and transmission. Successful decolonization treatment removes these risks. We aimed to identify bacterial genome and host clinical factors that influence MRSA decolonization to estimate the roles of the carrier and the bacterial strain, respectively, when decolonization fails. The long-term goal, beyond this study, is to optimize decolonization success, minimize MRSA transmission, and, ultimately, improve the quality of life of MRSA carriers.

Abstract
Background Staphylococcus aureus is a frequent colonizer of the human skin and mucous membranes but can also cause a variety of serious infections. Antimicrobial resistance is an increasing worldwide challenge and is mainly driven by an overuse of antimicrobials. To avoid the spread of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Denmark, the Danish Health Authority recommends decolonization treatment of MRSA carriers and their household contacts. Standard decolonization treatment includes chlorhexidine body wash and mupirocin nasal ointment, especially throat carriage is difficult to treat. The broad-spectrum antibiotic, clindamycin, is often added to the decolonization treatment, but there is currently low scientific evidence for this treatment. Aim To investigate whether the addition of clindamycin to the standard decolonization treatment increases decolonization success in MRSA throat carriers. Methods A randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded trial, including patients ≥ 18 years, who tested MRSA positive in the throat after completing one standard decolonization treatment. All carriers included in the trial receive standard decolonization treatment and are randomized to treatment with either placebo or clindamycin capsules for 10 days. We plan to include 40 participants in each of the two treatment arms. Discussion Due to the lack of consistent scientific evidence of clindamycin’s effect in MRSA decolonization and the worldwide urgent need to reduce the use of antibiotics, we judged that a 30% increase in the decolonization success rate in carriers treated with clindamycin is appropriate to justify prescribing clindamycin as part of the decolonization treatment of asymptomatic MRSA carriers. Abstract
BACKGROUND To prevent transmission of, and infection with, meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), eradication treatment of colonized individuals is recommended. Throat colonization is a well-known risk factor for eradication failure. Staphylococcus aureus throat colonization is associated with colonization of the rhinopharynx, but in the currently recommended Danish MRSA eradication strategies, rhinopharynx colonization is not directly targeted. Rhinopharynx colonization could therefore be an important risk factor for prolonged MRSA throat carriage. AIM To determine whether irrigation and wash of the rhinopharynx and mouth with dissolved mupirocin is a feasible and potentially efficacious supplementary strategy against treatment-resistant MRSA throat carriage. METHODS The patient study was an open, non-blinded, trial including 20 treatment-resistant MRSA throat carriers. In the study, the patients received a supplementary treatment besides the standard treatment according to the Danish MRSA eradication strategy. The supplementary treatment consisted of rhinopharyngeal irrigation and mouth-gurgling twice a day for 14 days with a mupirocin ointment (22 g 2% ointment per litre of isotonic sterile saline solution) in a 37°C solution. FINDINGS Eighteen patients (90%) complied with the treatment protocol and none ex-perienced any major adverse events. Out of the 18 patients who finished the study per protocol, 15 (83%) and seven (39%) patients had negative MRSA sampling results one and six months after end of treatment, respectively. CONCLUSION This study demonstrates the feasibility and clinical potential of also targeting the rhinopharynx and oropharynx in non-systemic throat MRSA eradication strategies.

Complicated Carriage with Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus: Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Decolonization Regimens Advised in the Dutch National Guideline. Abstract
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) colonization leads to increased infection rates and mortality. Decolonization treatment has been proven to prevent infection and reduce transmission. As the optimal antimicrobial strategy is yet to be established, different regimens are currently prescribed to patients. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the decolonization treatments recommended by the Dutch guideline. A retrospective multicenter cohort study was conducted in five Dutch hospitals. All patients who visited the outpatient clinic because of complicated MRSA carriage between 2014 and 2018 were included. We obtained data on patient characteristics, clinical and microbiological variables relevant for MRSA decolonization, environmental factors, decolonization regimen, and treatment outcome. The primary outcome was defined as three negative MRSA cultures after treatment completion. Outcomes were stratified for the first-line treatment strategies. A total of 131/224 patients were treated with systemic antibiotic agents. Treatment was successful in 111/131 (85%) patients. The success rate was highest in patients treated with doxycycline-rifampin (32/37; 86%), but the difference from any of the other regimens did not reach statistical significance. There was no difference in the success rate of a 7-day treatment compared to that with 10 to 14 days of treatment (odds ratio [OR], 0.99; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.39 to 2.53; P = 1.00). Side effects were reported in 27/131 (21%) patients and consisted mainly of mild gastrointestinal complaints. In a multivariable analysis, an immunocompromised status was an independent risk factor for failure at the first treatment attempt (OR, 4.65; 95% CI, 1.25 to 17.25; P = 0.02). The antimicrobial combinations recommended to treat complicated MRSA carriage yielded high success rates. Prolonged treatment did not affect treatment outcome. A randomized trial is needed to resolve whether the most successful regimen in this study (doxycycline plus rifampin) is superior to other combinations.

Abstract
Enrichment culture (EC) remains gold standard for detecting MRSA colonisation, but molecular methods shorten turnaround time. The CE-marked automated Hologic Panther Fusion MRSA Assay (HPFM) is validated for nasal swabs. We compared HPFM with EC following an in-house PCR for detection of MRSA in nasal, pharyngeal, and perineal ESwabs. The same ESwabs were analysed using HPFM and inoculated in selective Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB) for overnight incubation. TSBs were screened by a PCR targeting nuc, femA, mecA, and mecC. Only samples with PCR results compatible with MRSA presence were inoculated onto 5% blood agar and chromogenic MRSA plates. HPFM detected MRSA in 103 of 132 EC positive samples indicating a sensitivity of 78.0% across sample types. When paired TSBs of 29 EC positive/HPFM negative samples were re-analysed by HPFM, MRSA was detected in 17/29 TSBs indicating that enrichment will increase the sensitivity of HPFM. HPFM analyses of cultured isolates from the remaining 12 EC positive/HPFM negative samples failed to detect orfX. HPFM reported the presence of MRSA in 22 samples where EC failed to identify MRSA. Fifteen of these ESwabs had been kept and direct culture without enrichment identified MRSA in seven samples. HPFM was useful for all sample sites. Compared to EC, the sensitivity of HPFM was limited because of lack of analytical sensitivity and failure to detect all MRSA variants. Failure of some MRSA-containing samples to enrich in cefoxitin-containing TSB indicates an unappreciated limitation of EC, which may lead to underestimation of the specificity of molecular assays.

Abstract
Background The study objective was to reveal reservoirs potentially leading to Staphylococcus aureus infections in haemodialysis clinic clients in the tropical north of the Australian Northern Territory (NT). This client population are primarily Aboriginal Australians who have a greater burden of ill health than other Australians. Reservoir identification will enhance infection control in this client group, including informing potential S. aureus decolonisation strategies. Methods and findings The study participants were 83 clients of four haemodialysis clinics in the Darwin region of the NT, and 46 clinical staff and researchers who had contact with the clinic clients. The study design was longitudinal, encompassing swabbing of anatomical sites at two month intervals to yield carriage isolates, and also progressive collection of infection isolates. Swab sampling was performed for all participants, and infection isolates collected for dialysis clients only. Analysis was based on the comparison of 139 carriage isolates and 27 infection isolates using whole genome sequencing. Genome comparisons were based on of 20,651 genome-wide orthologous SNPs, presence/absence of the mecA and pvl genes, and inferred multilocus sequence type and clonal complex. Pairs of genomes meeting the definition of “not discriminated” were classed as defining potential transmission events. The primary outcome was instances of potential transmission between a carriage site other than a skin lesion and an infection site, in the same individual. Three such instances were identified. Two involved ST762 (CC1) PVL- MRSA, and one instance ST121 PVL+ MSSA. Three additional instances were identified where the carriage strains were derived from skin lesions. Also identified were six instances of potential transmission of a carriage strains between participants, including transmission of strains between dialysis clients and staff/researchers, and one potential transmission of a clinical strain between participants. There were frequent occurrences of longitudinal persistence of carriage strains in individual participants, and two examples of the same strain causing infection in the same participants at different times. Strains associated with infections and skin lesions were enriched for PVL and mecA in comparison to strains associated with long term carriage. Conclusions This study indicated that strains differ with respect to propensity to stably colonise sites such as the nose, and cause skin infections. PVL+ strains were associated with infection and skin lesions and were almost absent from the carriage sites. PVL- MRSA (mainly CC1) strains were associated with infection and also with potential transmission events involving carriage sites, while PVL- MSSA were frequently observed to stably colonise individuals without causing infection, and to be rarely transmitted. Current clinical guidelines for dialysis patients suggest MRSA decolonisation. Implementation in this client group may impact infections by PVL- MRSA, but may have little effect on infection by PVL+ strains. In this study, the PVL+ strains were predominant causes of infection but rarely colonised typical carriage sites such as the nose, and in the case of ST121, were MSSA. The important reservoirs for infection by PVL+ strains appeared to be prior infections.

Abstract
Livestock-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (LA-MRSA) CC398 has emerged in humans throughout Europe and the USA during the last decade and is associated with the spread of LA-MRSA CC398 in production animals. In this study, we investigated the risk of subsequent hospitalization with an S. aureus-related diagnosis and death within the first 2 years after MRSA diagnosis. The study included 7,521 carriers of MRSA, an age-matched reference population of 376,041 individuals and 7,607 patients infected with MRSA. Hazard ratios (HR) for hospitalization with an S. aureus-related diagnosis were 4.09 (95% CI: 2.78-6.00) and for death 1.21 (95% CI: 0.80-1.83) in LA-MRSA CC398 carriers compared with the reference population. Comparing carriers of LA-MRSA CC398 and non-CC398 MRSA, HR for hospitalization was 0.61 (95% CI: 0.37-0.99) and death 0.25 (95% CI: 0.16-0.40), respectively. Patients initially diagnosed with LA-MRSA CC398 or non-CC398 MRSA infection differed from MRSA carriers in terms of older age, higher Charlson comorbidity index score and longer hospital stays. HR for subsequent hospitalization and death was similar regardless having infection with LA-MRSA CC398 or non-CC398 MRSA at the time of MRSA diagnosis. We established that MRSA CC398 carriers have a lower risk of hospitalization and death up to 2 years after MRSA diagnosis than non-CC398 MRSA carriers do. In contrast, MRSA carriage, regardless the MRSA strain is a burden in terms of hospitalization and death when compared to the background reference population. Further, we established that there are no differences in risk of subsequent hospitalization and death in patients initially diagnosed with MRSA CC398 or non-CC398 MRSA infection. We suggest that public health surveillance of MRSA clearly needs to distinguish between carriage and infection as well as strain type before any inference from number of cases to disease burden is made.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recurrent skin abscesses are often associated with Panton-Valentine leukocidin-producing strains of S. aureus (PVL-SA). Decolonization measures are required along with treatment of active infections to prevent re-infection and spreading. Even though most PVL-SA patients are treated as outpatients, there are few studies that assess the effectiveness of outpatient topical decolonization in PVL-SA patients. METHODS We assessed the results of topical decolonization of PVL-SA in a retrospective review of patient files and personal interviews. Successful decolonization was defined as the absence of any skin abscesses for at least 6 months after completion of the final decolonization treatment. Clinical and demographic data was assessed. An intention-to-treat protocol was used. RESULTS Our cohort consisted of 115 symptomatic patients, 66% from PVL-positive MSSA and 19% from PVL-positive MRSA. The remaining 16% consisted of symptomatic patients with close contact to PVL-SA positive index patients but without detection of PVL-SA. The majority of patients were female (66%). The median age was 29.87% of the patients lived in multiple person households. Our results showed a 48% reduction in symptomatic PVL-SA cases after the first decolonization treatment. The results also showed that the decrease continued with each repeated decolonization treatment and reached 89% following the 5th treatment. A built multivariable Cox proportional-hazards model showed that the absence of PVL-SA detection (OR 2.0) and living in single person households (OR 2.4) were associated with an independently increased chance of successful decolonization. CONCLUSION In our cohort, topical decolonization was a successful preventive measure for reducing the risk of PVL-SA skin abscesses in the outpatient setting. Special attention should be given to patients living in multiple person households because these settings could confer a risk that decolonization will not be successful.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recurrent mucocutaneous infections caused by PVL-positive Staphylococcus (S.) aureus strains represent an increasing problem in Germany. Although there have been several outbreaks at day care centers and in urban communities in recent years, there are currently no diagnostic algorithms or treatment recommendations for these particular infections in Germany. METHODS We performed a literature search in the PubMed/MEDLINE database with the goal of developing an algorithm for diagnosis and treatment of these infections. National and international recommendations were also considered. RESULTS Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is a pore-forming protein produced by certain S. aureus strains. Both methicillin-susceptible (MSSA) and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) strains may carry the lukS-lukF gene responsible for PVL production. The clinical presentation of infections caused by PVL-positive S. aureus ranges from isolated recurrent abscesses to extensive furunculosis. Despite adequate treatment of primary infections, approximately 40 % of patients develop recurrent disease. The choice of treatment regimen is guided by the clinical presentation of the infection. In addition, some scientific literature recommends bacteriological screening of patients and their contacts, followed by decolonization of affected individuals. CONCLUSIONS The present article focuses on the pathogenesis and risk factors of recurrent mucocutaneous infections caused by PVL-positive S. aureus strains and proposes a diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm for optimal patient care.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the Danish Board of Health's guidance for treating the carriage of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), focusing on nose-throat carriage and use of supplementary systemic antibiotics. The results of MRSA eradication treatment among 358 patients were analysed, focusing on those with nose (N=58) or throat (N=183) MRSA colonization. The Danish guidance for MRSA treatment was found to be more successful in patients with nose colonization (66%) compared with throat colonization (41%), despite the fact that the cumulative eradication rates were equal after three treatment cycles (71% vs 73%). This study found that supplementation of colonization treatment with systemic antibiotics does not have a positive effect.

Abstract
Introduction: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) infections are associated with increased morbidity, mortality and health-care costs. Persistent nasal carriage of S. aureus found in 10-30% of the general population, constitutes a risk factor for these infections. Nasal decolonization is one of the used strategies to prevent this risk in some situations. Areas covered: Mupirocin nasal ointment has been used for the nasal decolonization and prevention of staphylococcal infections in various settings like surgeries. However, rising rates of resistance to mupirocin require the development of new decolonization agents. In this review, we will discuss mupirocin, its origins, studies that proved its efficacy and the associated resistance, as well as other decolonization agents under investigation. Expert opinion: As some limitations exist to mupirocin use, further research for alternatives is encouraged. Some old approved antiseptics (chlorhexidine, povidone-iodine) or antibiotics (rifampicin, bacitracin) have been investigated for their efficacy in this indication. Other new agents (tea tree oil, retapamulin, LTX-109, XF-73, phages, lysostaphin, squalamine analogues, etc.) are being studied. Some of them are still in preclinical phases, and others have reached clinical trials, but further research is needed. Special interest should be given to single dose decolonization strategies and to molecules that do not select resistant strains.
