Abstract
Nutrition is essential for peripheral nerve function, yet dietary factors associated with chronic chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) remain poorly characterized. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to determine differences in diet quality and macronutrients for cancer survivors with and without CIPN. Cancer survivors (e.g., ≥3 months post platinum and/or taxane-based neurotoxic chemotherapy) with (i.e., ≥1/4 PRO-CTACE™ Numbness and Tingling Severity) and without CIPN completed the VioScreen Research Graphical Food Frequency Questionnaire. The association among diet (Healthy Eating Index [HEI]), macronutrient intake (average percent caloric intake), and CIPN severity were analyzed using generalized linear regression models, adjusting for caloric intake, body mass index, age, and sex. Results revealed that for each one-point increase in diet quality, PRO-CTCAE severity decreased by -0.06 (95% CI: -0.10, -0.02, P < 0.01). Participants without CIPN reported higher diet quality than those with CIPN (HEI mean: 70.11 vs 68.45) (OR = 0.94, P = 0.03, 95% CI: 0.89, 0.99). Participants with CIPN had significantly higher carbohydrate consumption than participants without CIPN (OR = 1.11, P = 0.04, 95% CI: 1.01, 1.22). There were no significant differences in consumption of proteins or fats between groups. Further research should be pursued to discover the potential benefits of dietary interventions for CIPN management among cancers survivors.

Abstract
Background and Aims Further exploration is needed to recognize symptom clusters and categorize subgroups with distinct cluster patterns and associated risks, focusing on symptoms that are highly self-reported by patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. This study aimed to identify subgroups and risk factors for self-reported high symptom cluster burden among patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Methods A total of 647 participants who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study, with data collected on demographics, disease information, self-reported symptoms, and psychosocial factors. Latent class analysis was utilized to identify the subgroup, while logistic regression was used to pinpoint predictive risk factors. Results Latent class analysis revealed three subgroups: the "high burden of all symptoms group" (n = 107, 16.54%), the "high burden of psychological symptoms group" (n = 103, 15.92%), and the "low burden of all symptoms group" (n = 437, 67.54%). Patients in the high burden of all symptom group and high burden of psychological symptom group exhibited significantly worse function outcomes (p < 0.001). Predictive risk factors for the "high burden of all symptom group" included older age, lower self-efficacy, worse body image, and a higher financial burden. Similarly, patients with high burden of psychological symptom were more likely to have low self-efficacy, poor body image, and a high financial burden. Conclusion The study demonstrated the importance of giving more attention to patients with breast cancer who are at risk of developing into membership of high symptom cluster burden group.

Abstract
Chronic pain, a substantial public health issue, may be influenced by dietary patterns through systemic inflammation. This cross-sectional study explored the association between Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and chronic pain among 2581 American adults from NHANES data. The DII, ranging from - 4.98 to 4.69, reflects the inflammatory potential of the diet, with higher scores indicating greater pro-inflammatory capacity. Our findings showed no significant association between the continuous DII score and chronic pain prevalence. However, a nonlinear relationship emerged. When the DII was categorized, a significant association between higher DII scores (DII ≥ 2.5) and chronic pain prevalence was observed. The analysis uncovered a U-shaped pattern, with an inflection point at a DII score of - 0.9, indicating an association between both low and high levels of dietary inflammation are associated with higher pain prevalence. This nuanced interaction between dietary inflammation and chronic pain indicates the possibility of incorporating dietary modification into pain management strategies and underscores the need for further research into the long-term effects of diet on chronic pain.

Abstract
PURPOSE It was designed to identify the symptom clusters and sentinel symptoms among patients with breast cancer receiving chemotherapy at the community level, and to explore core and bridge symptoms at the global level. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted using the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory. Patients with breast cancer receiving chemotherapy, recruited from the "Be Resilient to Breast Cancer" project between January 2023 and December 2023, were included in the study. Symptom clusters and their sentinel symptoms were identified using exploratory factor analysis and Apriori algorithm. Core and bridge symptoms were identified using network analysis. RESULTS A total of 468 patients with breast cancer participated in the current study. At the community level, three symptom clusters and their corresponding sentinel symptoms were identified: a gastrointestinal symptom cluster (with nausea as the sentinel symptom), a psycho-sleep-related symptom cluster (with distress as the sentinel symptom), and a neurocognition symptom cluster (with dry mouth as the sentinel symptom). At the global level, fatigue emerged as the core symptom, while disturbed sleep and lack of appetite as bridge symptoms. CONCLUSION Addressing nausea, distress, and dry mouth are imperative for alleviating specific symptom clusters at the community level. Furthermore, targeting fatigue, disturbed sleep, and lack of appetite are crucial to break the interactions among diverse symptoms at the global level.

Abstract
Breast cancer (BC) is currently one of the most common cancers in women worldwide with a rising tendency. Epigenetics, generally inherited variations in gene expression that occur independently of changes in DNA sequence, and their disruption could be one of the main causes of BC due to inflammatory processes often associated with different lifestyle habits. In particular, hormone therapies are often indicated for hormone-positive BC, which accounts for more than 50-80% of all BC subtypes. Although the cure rate in the early stage is more than 70%, serious negative side effects such as secondary osteoporosis (OP) due to induced estrogen deficiency and chemotherapy are increasingly reported. Approaches to the management of secondary OP in BC patients comprise adjunctive therapy with bisphosphonates, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and cortisone, which partially reduce bone resorption and musculoskeletal pain but which are not capable of stimulating the necessary intrinsic bone regeneration. Therefore, there is a great therapeutic need for novel multitarget treatment strategies for BC which hold back the risk of secondary OP. In this review, resveratrol, a multitargeting polyphenol that has been discussed as a phytoestrogen with anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects at the epigenetic level, is presented as a potential adjunct to both support BC therapy and prevent osteoporotic risks by positively promoting intrinsic regeneration. In this context, resveratrol is also known for its unique role as an epigenetic modifier in the regulation of essential signaling processes-both due to its catabolic effect on BC and its anabolic effect on bone tissue.

Abstract
PURPOSE Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a highly prevalent and debilitating symptom reported by breast cancer survivors (BCS). CRF has been associated with the co-occurrence of anxiety, depression, poor sleep quality, cognitive impairment, which are collectively termed as psychoneurophysiological (PNP) symptoms. CRF and these PNP symptoms are often reported during and after treatment with long-lasting distress. It is unclear how CRF and these PNP symptoms influence each other. This study aimed to explore predictive factors (i.e., PNP symptoms and social-demographic factors) of CRF, and test exploratory path models of the relationships of CRF with PNP symptoms (depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, pain, and cognitive function) in BCS. METHODS This paper is part of a larger descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional study. Validated and reliable instruments assessed CRF, depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, pain, and cognitive function. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, multiple linear regression models, and path analysis were employed. RESULTS Patients (N = 373) who reported less bodily pain had worst CRF (r = -0.45, p < .01). Significant predictors of CRF included depression, sleep disorder, bodily pain, perceived cognitive ability, and dispositional (state) optimism. Depression alone accounted for 31% of the variance in CRF. An integrative path model with bodily pain, neuropathic pain, CRF, and depression showed a good fit across different indices (CFI = 0.993, RMSEA = 0.047, 90% CI 0-0.12, SRMR = 0.027). CONCLUSIONS This study identified significant predictors of CRF and revealed a good fit mediation model with significant pathways for CRF, suggesting that a common etiology may underpin the co-occurrence of CRF with PNP symptoms (pain and depression). However, further investigation with longitudinal design is necessary to explore the causal relationships of these symptoms. Evidence-based strategies/interventions are needed to reduce or eliminate the burden of these symptoms on the lives of BCS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Purposes were to identify subgroups of patients with gastrointestinal cancers with distinct morning and evening fatigue severity profiles and evaluate for differences among these subgroups in demographic and clinical characteristics, co-occurring symptoms and quality of life (QOL) outcomes. METHODS Patients with gastrointestinal cancers (n=405) completed questionnaires six times over two cycles of chemotherapy. Latent profile analysis was used to identify distinct morning and evening fatigue profiles. Differences in demographic and clinical characteristics, co-occurring symptoms and QOL outcomes among the subgroups were evaluated using parametric and nonparametric tests. RESULTS Two distinct mornings (ie, low and very high) and three distinct evenings (ie, low, moderate and very high) fatigue classes were identified. Common risk factors for both morning and evening fatigue included younger age, lower performance status, higher comorbidity burden and self-reported depression. Higher levels of morning fatigue were associated with being unmarried, living alone, being unemployed, having a lower income, lack of regular exercise and a self-reported diagnosis of anaemia. Higher levels of evening fatigue were associated with being women, white and having childcare responsibilities. Patients in the very high morning and evening fatigue classes reported higher levels of anxiety, depressive symptoms, sleep disturbance and pain and lower levels of attentional function and poorer QOL. CONCLUSION Findings provide new insights into risk factors for and deleterious effects of morning and evening fatigue in patients with gastrointestinal cancers. Clinicians can use this information to identify high-risk patients and develop individualised interventions for morning and evening fatigue and other co-occurring symptoms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) experience psychoneurological symptoms (PNS, i.e., depression, fatigue, sleep disturbance, pain, and cognitive dysfunction) during intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) that negatively impact their functional status, quality of life, and overall survival. The underlying mechanisms for PNS are still not fully understood. This study aimed to examine differentially expressed genes and pathways related to PNS for patients undergoing IMRT (i.e., before, end of, 6 months, and 12 months after IMRT). METHODS Participants included 142 patients with HNC (mean age 58.9 ± 10.3 years, 72.5% male, 83.1% White). Total RNA extracted from blood leukocytes were used for genome-wide gene expression assays. Linear mixed effects model was used to examine the association between PNS and gene expression across time. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis was employed to identify pathways related to PNS. RESULTS A total of 1352 genes (162 upregulated, 1190 downregulated) were significantly associated with PNS across time (false discovery rate (FDR) < 0.05). Among these genes, 112 GO terms were identified (FDR < 0.05). The top 20 GO terms among the significant upregulated genes were related to immune and inflammatory responses, while the top 20 GO terms among the significant downregulated genes were associated with telomere maintenance. CONCLUSION This study is the first to identify genes and pathways linked to immune and inflammatory responses and telomere maintenance that are associated with PNS in patients with HNC receiving IMRT. Inflammation and aging markers may be candidate biomarkers for PNS. Understanding biological markers may produce targets for novel interventions.

Abstract
Several studies report that breast cancer survivors (BCS) tend to have a poor diet, as fruit, vegetable, and legume consumption is often reduced, resulting in a decreased intake of nutraceuticals. Moreover, weight gain has been commonly described among BCS during treatment, increasing recurrence rate and mortality. Improving lifestyle and nutrition after the diagnosis of BC may have important benefits on patients' general health and on specific clinical outcomes. The Mediterranean diet (MD), known for its multiple beneficial effects on health, can be considered a nutritional pool comprising several nutraceuticals: bioactive compounds and foods with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Recent scientific advances have led to the identification of nutraceuticals that could amplify the benefits of the MD and favorably influence gene expression in these patients. Nutraceuticals could have beneficial effects in the postdiagnostic phase of BC, including helping to mitigate the adverse effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Moreover, the MD could be a valid and easy-to-follow option for managing excess weight. The aim of this narrative review is to evaluate the recent scientific literature on the possible beneficial effects of consuming functional and nutraceutical foods in the framework of MD in BCS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Morning and evening fatigue are distinct and distressing symptoms experienced during chemotherapy that demonstrate a large amount of interindividual variability. OBJECTIVES The objectives of this study were to identify subgroups of patients with distinct morning and evening fatigue co-occurrence profiles and evaluate for differences among these subgroups in demographic, clinical, and symptom characteristics and quality of life. METHODS Oncology patients ( n = 1,334) completed the Lee Fatigue Scale to self-report morning and evening fatigue, six times over two cycles of chemotherapy. Latent profile analysis was used to identify subgroups of patients with distinct morning and evening physical fatigue profiles. RESULTS Four distinct morning and evening fatigue profiles were identified (i.e., Both Low, Low Morning + Moderate Evening, Both Moderate, and Both High). Compared to the Both Low profile, the Both High profile was significantly younger, less likely to be married or partnered, more likely to live alone, had a higher comorbidity burden, and lower functional status. The Both High profile had higher levels of anxiety, depressive symptoms, sleep disturbance, and pain and lower levels of quality of life. DISCUSSION The variability in the morning and evening severity scores among the four profiles supports the hypothesis that morning and evening fatigue are distinct but related symptoms. Clinically meaningful levels of both morning and evening fatigue were reported by 50.4% of our sample, which suggests that the co-occurrence of these two symptoms is relatively common. Patients in Both Moderate and Both High profiles experienced an extremely high symptom burden that warrants ongoing assessments and aggressive symptom management interventions.

Abstract
Inflammation plays a major role in the development and progression of breast cancer(BC). Proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis are all linked to inflammation and tumorigenesis. Furthermore, tumor microenvironment (TME) inflammation-mediated cytokine releases play a critical role in these processes. By recruiting caspase-1 through an adaptor apoptosis-related spot protein, inflammatory caspases are activated by the triggering of pattern recognition receptors on the surface of immune cells. Toll-like receptors, NOD-like receptors, and melanoma-like receptors are not triggered. It activates the proinflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18 and is involved in different biological processes that exert their effects. The Nod-Like Receptor Protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome regulates inflammation by mediating the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines and interacting with other cellular compartments through the inflammasome's central role in innate immunity. NLRP3 inflammasome activation mechanisms have received much attention in recent years. Inflammatory diseases including enteritis, tumors, gout, neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, and obesity are associated with abnormal activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome. Different cancer diseases have been linked to NLRP3 and its role in tumorigenesis may be the opposite. Tumors can be suppressed by it, as has been seen primarily in the context of colorectal cancer associated with colitis. However, cancers such as gastric and skin can also be promoted by it. The inflammasome NLRP3 is associated with breast cancer, but there are few specific reviews. This review focuses on the structure, biological characteristics and mechanism of inflammasome, the relationship between NLRP3 in breast cancer Non-Coding RNAs, MicroRNAs and breast cancer microenvironment, especially the role of NLRP3 in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). And the potential strategies of using NLRP3 inflammasome to target breast cancer, such as NLRP3-based nanoparticle technology and gene target therapy, are reviewed.

Abstract
Intermittent fasting entails restricting food intake during specific times of day, days of the week, religious practice, or surrounding clinically important events. Herein, the metabolic and circadian rhythm mechanisms underlying the proposed benefits of intermittent fasting for the cancer population are described. We summarize epidemiological, preclinical, and clinical studies in cancer published between January 2020 and August 2022 and propose avenues for future research. An outstanding concern regarding the use of intermittent fasting among cancer patients is that fasting often results in caloric restriction, which can put patients already prone to malnutrition, cachexia, or sarcopenia at risk. Although clinical trials do not yet provide sufficient data to support the general use of intermittent fasting in clinical practice, this summary may be useful for patients, caregivers, and clinicians who are exploring intermittent fasting as part of their cancer journey for clinical outcomes and symptom management.

Abstract
PURPOSE We report on prevalence of anxiety, depression, and concentration difficulties and their associations in survivors of cancer in a nationally representative sample up to 25 years after diagnosis. METHODS Using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 2015 to 2018, participants between the ages of 18 and 79 self-reported on cancer history, symptoms of anxiety, depression, and difficulties with concentration. RESULTS Of 10,337 participants, 691 (6.7%) reported a previous diagnosis of cancer; the median time since diagnosis was 8 years. Prevalence was similar between those with and without cancer for anxiety (45.8% versus 46.9%) and depression (19.7% versus 20.0%). Concentration difficulties were more common (11.3% versus 9.0%) for those with a history of cancer compared to those without (adjusted OR = 1.38, 95% CI: 1.00-1.90). Prevalence of mental health symptoms was not related to time since diagnosis. Anxiety and depression were highly correlated (r = 0.81, 95% CI: 0.74-0.86) and moderately correlated with difficulty with concentration (r = 0.52, 95%CI: 0.40-0.64 and r = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.53-0.74 respectively). CONCLUSIONS Difficulty with concentration was more commonly reported by participants with than without a cancer history. Report of anxiety and depression was no different between participants with and without a history of cancer. Anxiety, depression, and difficulties with concentration were strongly related. Further research is needed to explore if there is a causal association, and if so, the direction of these correlations, so that interventions may be appropriately targeted.

Abstract
Current nursing research has characterized symptom clusters and trajectories in individuals with breast cancer. The existing literature describes the relationship between symptoms and biological variables and the potential moderating effects of individual and social factors. The genomic profiling of breast cancer has also been an area of much recent research. Emerging evidence indicates that incorporating cancer genomics into symptom science research can aid in the prognostication of symptoms and elucidate targets for symptom management interventions. The aim of this paper is to outline a model to integrate cancer genomics into symptom science research, illustrated using breast cancer and psychoneurological (PN) symptoms as an example. We present a review of the current literature surrounding breast cancer genomics (specifically cancer genomic instability) and the biological underpinnings of the PN symptom cluster. Advances in both of these areas indicate that inflammation may serve as the bridge between cancer genomics and the PN symptom cluster. We also outline how the integration of cancer genomics into symptom science research synergizes with current research of individual and social factors in relation to symptoms. This model aims to provide a framework to guide future biopsychosocial symptom science research that can elucidate new predictive methods and new targets for intervention.

Abstract
Objective To explore the association between the pain-fatigue-sleep disturbance-depression symptom cluster (SC) and cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) in patients having lung cancer and to identify other factors influencing CRCI. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate 378 patients having lung cancer in China from October 2021 to July 2022. The perceived cognitive impairment scale and the general anxiety disorder-7 were used to assess patients' cognitive impairment and anxiety, respectively. The pain-fatigue-sleep disturbance-depression SC was assessed with the brief fatigue inventory, the brief pain inventory, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and the Athens Insomnia Scale. Latent class analysis by Mplus.7.4 was used to identify latent classes of the SC. We adjusted for covariates in the multivariable logistic regression model to examine the relationship between the pain-fatigue-sleep disturbance-depression SC and CRCI. Results Among patients having lung cancer, two SC classes were identified: high and low symptom burden groups. In the crude model, compared to the low symptom burden group, the high symptom group had greater odds of developing CRCI (odds ratio: 10.065, 95% confidence interval: 4.138-24.478). After adjusting for covariates, in model 1, the high symptom group still had greater odds of developing CRCI (odds ratio: 5.531, 95% confidence interval: 2.133-14.336). Additionally, a diagnosis of over 6 months, anxiety, leisure activity, and a high platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio were found to be influencing factors of CRCI (all P < 0.05). Conclusions Our study revealed that a high symptom burden is a significant risk factor for CRCI, which may provide a new perspective for managing CRCI in lung patients having cancer.

Abstract
During the past decade, researchers have investigated the molecular mechanisms of breast cancer initiation and progression, especially triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), in order to identify specific biomarkers that could serve as feasible targets for innovative therapeutic strategies development. TNBC is characterized by a dynamic and aggressive nature, due to the absence of estrogen, progesterone and human epidermal growth factor 2 receptors. TNBC progression is associated with the dysregulation of nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor and pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome, followed by the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and caspase-1 dependent cell death, termed pyroptosis. The heterogeneity of the breast tumor microenvironment triggers the interest of non-coding RNAs' involvement in NLRP3 inflammasome assembly, TNBC progression and metastasis. Non-coding RNAs are paramount regulators of carcinogenesis and inflammasome pathways, which could help in the development of efficient treatments. This review aims to highlight the contribution of non-coding RNAs that support inflammasome activation and TNBC progression, pointing up their potential for clinical applications as biomarkers for diagnosis and therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE COVID-19 manifests with a broad range of symptoms. This study investigates whether clusters of respiratory, gastrointestinal, or neurological symptoms can be used to diagnose COVID-19. METHODS We surveyed symptoms of 483 subjects who had completed COVID-19 laboratory tests in the last 30 days. The survey collected data on demographic characteristics, self-reported symptoms for different types of infections within 14 days of onset of illness, and self-reported COVID-19 test results. Robust LASSO regression was used to create 3 nested models. In all 3 models, the response variable was the COVID-19 test result. In the first model, referred to as the "main effect model," the independent variables were demographic characteristics, history of chronic symptoms, and current symptoms. The second model, referred to as the "hierarchical clustering model," added clusters of variables to the list of independent variables. These clusters were established through hierarchical clustering. The third model, referred to as the "interaction-terms model," also added clusters of variables to the list of independent variables; this time clusters were established through pairwise and triple-way interaction terms. Models were constructed on a randomly selected 80% of the data and accuracy was cross-validated on the remaining 20% of the data. The process was bootstrapped 30 times. Accuracy of the 3 models was measured using the average of the cross-validated area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUROCs). RESULTS In 30 bootstrap samples, the main effect model had an AUROC of 0.78. The hierarchical clustering model had an AUROC of 0.80. The interaction-terms model had an AUROC of 0.81. Both the hierarchical cluster model and the interaction model were significantly different from the main effect model (α = .04). Patients with different races/ethnicities, genders, and ages presented with different symptom clusters. CONCLUSIONS Using clusters of symptoms, it is possible to more accurately diagnose COVID-19 among symptomatic patients.

OBJECTIVE The aims of this study were to describe survivorship concerns among hematological cancer survivors, identify subgroups of survivors with distinct classes of concerns, and examine sociodemographic and clinical differences across subgroups. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of data from 1160 hematological cancer survivors, who rated their degree of concern regarding 20 physical, emotional, and practical changes. Clusters of concerns were identified using latent class analysis. Associations between respondent characteristics and cluster membership were calculated using multinomial logistic regression. RESULTS Survivors had a mean of 7.5 concerns (SD, 4.6; range, 0-19), the most frequent being fatigue/tiredness (85.4%); anxiety, stress, and worry about cancer returning (70.2%); and changes to concentration/memory (55.4%). Three distinct classes of concerns were identified: class 1 (low, 47.0%), characterized by low endorsement of most concerns, apart from fatigue; class 2 (moderate, 32.3%), characterized by high endorsement of a combination of concerns across domains; and class 3 (high, 20.7%), characterized by the highest number of concerns out of the 3 identified classes, including greater endorsement of concerns relating to sexual well-being. Class membership was differentiated by survivor age, sex, marital status, and diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS Three distinct patterns of concerns were detected in a large sample of hematological cancer survivors. Patterns of concerns could be differentiated by survivor characteristics. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Our study highlights the concerns experienced by hematological cancer survivors and provides support for a tailored biopsychosocial approach to survivorship care in this context.

Abstract
We aimed to assess the levels of anxious and depressive symptoms and distress in a sample of breast cancer patients in the different phases of the illness. We performed a cross-sectional study. We divided 301 female breast cancer patients into three groups, based on the phase of illness they were in being in post-surgery (N = 100), receiving adjuvant therapies (N = 86), and receiving follow-up care (N = 115). We included the follow-up within the phases of illness. We further divided each group into first diagnosed or with recurrence and we administered Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and Distress Thermometer. First-diagnosed patients with clinically relevant anxiety increased from being post-surgery (35.8%), to receiving adjuvant therapies (53.7%), and to being in follow-up (61.5%). In patients with recurrence, distress was stable among the illness phases, but many patients had clinically relevant anxiety (55.65%) and depression (43.48%). First-diagnosed patients' emotional distress could be more linked to follow-up-related difficulties. During recurrence, high distress could be due to the failure of previous treatments. Distress screening can better orient psycho-social interventions and healthcare resources.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Emerging evidence highlights the roles the gut microbiome and the immune system, integral parts of the gut-brain axis, play in developing various symptoms in cancer patients. The purpose of this systematic review was to describe the roles of inflammatory markers and the gut microbiome, as well as to describe their associations with psychoneurological symptoms and gastrointestinal toxicities in women with gynecologic cancers. METHODS A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from January 2000 to February 2021. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines were utilized to screen the found articles. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the Mixed Method Assessment Tool. In the included studies, various inflammatory markers and gut microbiome diversity and patterns were measured. RESULTS Sixteen studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in this systematic review. While there were discrepancies in the associations between various inflammatory markers and symptoms, most of the studies showed positive correlations between interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and cancer-related psychoneurological symptoms and gastrointestinal toxicities in gynecologic cancer patients. Although there was no consensus in alpha diversity, studies showed significant dissimilarity in the microbial communities (beta diversity) in patients with gastrointestinal toxicities compared with patients without symptoms or healthy controls. Studies also reported inconsistent findings in the abundance of bacteria at different taxonomic levels. Radiation enteritis-derived microbiota could stimulate TNF-α and interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) secretion. CONCLUSIONS Alteration of inflammatory markers, the gut microbiome, and their associations show emerging evidence in the development of psychoneurological symptoms and gastrointestinal toxicities in women with gynecologic cancers. More studies on the interactions between the immune system and the gut microbiome, two integral parts of the gut-brain axis, are required to shed light on the roles they play in symptom development.

Simple Summary Artificial light at night, initially assumed to be innocuous, is associated with an increased risk for developing mood disorders, sleep disturbances, and cancer. However, the influence of ALAN on affective behavior in tumor-bearing mice has not been investigated. Here, we demonstrate that ALAN reduces the latency to tumor onset and increases terminal tumor volume. Additionally, tumor-bearing mice housed in dark nights exhibit increased anxiety-like behavior which is prevented via housing in ALAN. Abstract Artificial light at night (ALAN) is a pervasive phenomenon. Although initially assumed to be innocuous, recent research has demonstrated its deleterious effects on physiology and behavior. Exposure to ALAN is associated with disruptions to sleep/wake cycles, development of mood disorders, metabolic disorders, and cancer. However, the influence of ALAN on affective behavior in tumor-bearing mice has not been investigated. We hypothesize that exposure to ALAN accelerates mammary tumor growth and predict that ALAN exacerbates negative affective behaviors in tumor-bearing mice. Adult (>8 weeks) female C3H mice received a unilateral orthotropic injection of FM3A mouse mammary carcinoma cells (1.0 × 105 in 100 μL) into the fourth inguinal mammary gland. Nineteen days after tumor inoculation, mice were tested for sucrose preference (anhedonia-like behavior). The following day, mice were subjected to an open field test (anxiety-like behavior), followed by forced swim testing (depressive-like behavior). Regardless of tumor status, mice housed in ALAN increased body mass through the first ten days. Tumor-bearing ALAN-housed mice demonstrated reduced latency to tumor onset (day 5) and increased terminal tumor volume (day 21). Exposure to ALAN reduced sucrose preference independent of tumor status. Additionally, tumor-bearing mice housed in dark nights demonstrated significantly increased anxiety-like behavior that was normalized via housing in ALAN. Together, these data reaffirm the negative effects of ALAN on tumorigenesis and demonstrate the potential anxiolytic effect of ALAN in the presence of mammary tumors.

Abstract
Simple Summary The effects of cognitive symptoms on the ability to work are of major concern for cancer survivors. The aim of our study was to explore trajectories of cognitive functioning in sick-listed cancer survivors with work capacity. We found that cognitive functioning improved between two and four years after first day of sick leave, although cognitive symptoms remained of clinical concern in cancer survivors who are non-durable work-disabled (partly or fully). This underlines the importance to provide partly and fully, non-durable work disabled cancer survivors with evidence-based treatment options for their self-perceived cognitive symptoms. Abstract Many non-central nervous system (CNS) cancer survivors experience cognitive symptoms, which may affect their self-perceived work ability. Little is known about trajectories of self-perceived cognitive functioning in cancer survivors in the period after work disability assessment. Therefore, we evaluated: (1) trajectories of self-reported cognitive functioning, in cancer survivors with work capacity, (2) differences in trajectories of self-reported cognitive functioning between three work disability groups, and (3) explanatory factors of trajectories of self-reported cognitive functioning. Participants (n = 206) were assessed on self-reported cognitive functioning at three time points between two and four years after first day of sick leave. A statistically significant improvement in cognitive functioning was found in the total group (β = 4.62, SE = 0.91, p < 0.001). When comparing cancer survivors in different work disability groups, similar trajectories of cognitive functioning were observed. Fatigue was the only factor found to be associated with the reported trajectory (β = −0.23, SE = 0.086, p = 0.08). Self-perceived cognitive functioning scores remained considerably lower than the mean score of the general Dutch population, indicating that cognitive symptoms are a persistent problem in sick-listed cancer survivors and that evidence-based treatment options are warranted.

Abstract
Chemotherapy, targeting not only malignant but also healthy cells, causes many undesirable side effects in cancer patients. Due to this fact, long-term cancer survivors often suffer from late effects, including cognitive impairment and cardiovascular toxicity. Chemotherapy damages the intestinal mucosa and heavily disrupts the gut ecosystem, leading to gastrointestinal toxicity. Animal models and clinical studies have revealed the associations between intestinal dysbiosis and depression, anxiety, pain, impaired cognitive functions, and cardiovascular diseases. Recently, a possible link between chemotherapy-induced gut microbiota disruption and late effects in cancer survivors has been proposed. In this review, we summarize the current understanding of preclinical and clinical findings regarding the emerging role of the microbiome and the microbiota-gut-brain axis in chemotherapy-related late effects affecting the central nervous system (CNS) and heart functions. Importantly, we provide an overview of clinical trials evaluating the relationship between the gut microbiome and cancer survivorship. Moreover, the beneficial effects of probiotics in experimental models and non-cancer patients with neurocognitive disorders and cardiovascular diseases as well as several studies on microbiota modulations via probiotics or fecal microbiota transplantation in cancer patients are discussed.

Abstract
PURPOSE To examine a) whether there are significant differences in gut microbial diversity and in the abundance of gut microbial taxa; and b) differences in predicted functional pathways of the gut microbiome between those participants with high co-occurring symptoms and those with low co-occurring symptoms, prior to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy (CRT) for rectal cancer. METHODS Rectal cancer patients (n = 41) provided stool samples for 16 S rRNA gene sequencing and symptom ratings for fatigue, sleep disturbance, and depressive symptoms prior to CRT. Descriptive statistics were computed for symptoms. Gut microbiome data were analyzed using QIIME2, LEfSe, and the R statistical package. RESULTS Participants with high co-occurring symptoms (n = 19) had significantly higher bacterial abundances of Ezakiella, Clostridium sensu stricto, Porphyromonas, Barnesiella, Coriobacteriales Incertae Sedis, Synergistiaceae, Echerichia-Shigella, and Turicibacter compared to those with low co-occurring symptoms before CRT (n = 22). Biosynthesis pathways for lipopolysaccharide, L-tryptophan, and colanic acid building blocks were enriched in participants with high co-occurring symptoms. Participants with low co-occurring symptoms showed enriched abundances of Enterococcus and Lachnospiraceae, as well as pathways for β-D-glucoronosides, hexuronide/hexuronate, and nicotinate degradation, methanogenesis, and L-lysine biosynthesis. CONCLUSION A number of bacterial taxa and predicted functional pathways were differentially abundant in patients with high co-occurring symptoms compared to those with low co-occurring symptoms before CRT for rectal cancer. Detailed examination of bacterial taxa and pathways mediating co-occurring symptoms is warranted.

Abstract
Breast cancer diagnosis, surgery, adjuvant therapies and survivorship can all be extremely stressful. In women, concerns about body image are common as a result of the disease and can affect interpersonal relationships, possibly leading to social isolation, increasing the likelihood for mood disorders. This is particularly relevant as women are at greater risk to develop anxiety and depressive symptoms in response to highly stressful situations. Here we address the mechanisms and the pathways activated as a result of stress and contributing to changes in the pathophysiology of breast cancer, as well as the potential of stress management factors and interventions in buffering the deleterious effects of chronic stress in a gender perspective. An improved understanding of the biological mechanisms linking stress-management resources to health-relevant biological processes in breast cancer patients could reveal novel therapeutic targets and help clarifying which psychosocial interventions can improve cancer outcomes, ultimately offering a unique opportunity to improve contemporary cancer treatments.
