Abstract
The present study analyzed the content of total mercury (THg) and selenium (Se) in the muscle of shrimp collected from local markets in the 11 Pacific coastal states of Mexico. Methylmercury (MeHg) concentration, Se:Hg ratio, health benefits value from selenium consumption (HBVSe) and the permissible weekly consumption were estimated to assess the health risk to consumers. All THg and Se concentrations were below the maximum permissible limits. All hazard quotient (HQ) values were <1, however in Hermosillo, Culiacán and Guadalajara, the Se:Hg ratio and HBVSe were <1 and negative, due to the low concentrations of Se. As a general conclusion, there is no risk nor benefit from the consumption of shrimp from the Pacific coast of Mexico due to its Hg and Se content.

Abstract
Total mercury (Hg) and selenium (Se) contents were determined in oysters Saccostrea palmula and Crassostrea corteziensis soft tissues from four coastal lagoons of the southeastern Gulf of California. The annual Hg mean concentrations for S. palmula (0.09 ± 0.04 µg g- 1, wet weight) and C. corteziensis (0.08 ± 0.04 µg g- 1) were similar (p ˃ 0.05) among the lagoons and did not exceed the limit established by the Norma Oficial Mexicana and World Health Organization (< 1.0 µg g- 1 Hg). On the other hand, the annual mean concentrations of Se for S. palmula (3.34 ± 0.96 µg g- 1) and C. corteziensis (2.79 ± 0.89 µg g- 1) were higher (p < 0.05) in El Colorado lagoon. The Se/Hg molar ratios were above 1; the positive selenium health benefit value index suggested that Se load in oysters could reduce the Hg potential toxic effect. The hazard quotient for Hg in both species was below 1. Therefore, the consumption of oysters does not represent a risk due to Hg ingestion.

Abstract
This study analyzed total mercury (THg), and selenium (Se) in edible tissues of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), blue shrimp (L. stylirostris) and brown shrimp (F. californiensis), from three states of the Northwest of Mexico in September and October 2017. Concentrations of THg and Se in the muscle were between 0.026 and 0.829 and 0.126-1.741 µg/g dry weight (dw), respectively. Significant differences were observed among Hg concentration of Sonora and Nayarit and among Se concentration of Sinaloa and Nayarit. In addition, the health risk assessment (HQ) in the three species of shrimp was between 0.550 and 0.607. All Se:Hg molar ratios were > 1 and positive HBVSe values that showed that shrimp from Northwest of Mexico does not represent a risk to human health.

Abstract
Mercury and selenium concentrations and Se:Hg molar ratio in edible muscle and hepatopancreas of the crab Callinectes arcuatus from coastal lagoons of northwest Mexico were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The three coastal lagoons were Santa María La Reforma (SMLR), Urías (UR), and Huizache-Caimanero (HC); samplings were carried out from December 2016 to October 2017. The mercury ranges in the muscle of C. arcuatus in SMLR, UR, and HC lagoons were 0.31-0.52, 0.15-0.45, and 0.22-0.55 μg g-1, respectively. In hepatopancreas, the values ranged from 0.08 to 0.15, 0.06 to 0.15, and 0.05 to 0.12 μg g-1 in SMLR, UR, and HC lagoons, in that order. For selenium concentrations in C. arcuatus muscle, the ranges 11.64-20.14, 14.88-19.71, and 15.27-29.51 μg g-1 were determined in SMLR, UR, and HC lagoons, respectively. While for hepatopancreas, the ranges were 34.34-44.13, 27.77-40.45, and 15.16-49.80 μg g-1, in that order. No significant relationships (p > 0.05) between mercury and selenium concentrations (in white meat and hepatopancreas) were observed in C. arcuatus carapace width and length. Se:Hg molar ratio values were 98.1 ± 20.8, 171.4 ± 81.6, and 176.8 ± 51.2 for SMLR, UR, and HC lagoons, in that order. This high ratio (> 1) in C. arcuatus edible muscle indicated that selenium concentration was sufficient to neutralize possible mercury toxicity, so it does not represent danger to humans when it is consumed.

Abstract
Open-air landfill's may be are considered as a potential source of human environmental exposure to chemical substances such as, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and toxic metals. Due to possible availability of mercury in the environment caused by open landfill emissions, this study evaluates the spatiality and seasonality of macroinvertebrates, in particular shrimps (Macrobrachium amazonicum), exposure to mercury (Hg). Information regarding Hg accumulation in this crustacean may be important for the development of public policies aiming conservation and preservation of ecosystems surrounding landfills in Amazon, and around the world. Sampling occurred quarterly in the following months: November/2015; February/2016; May/2016 and; August/2016. In each of these months, three points were selected: P1, P2 and P3. The samples were processed via acid digestion and the quantification of metal was performed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The average concentration of total mercury (T-Hg) was 24.565 ± 6.610 µg kg-1 wet weight, with minimum and maximum limits of 12.742 ± 11.367 (P3) and 35.509 ± 14.761 µg kg-1 wet weight (P1) in November/2015 and August/2016, respectively. The concentration of total mercury (T-Hg) in shrimps was different between points (p = 0.004) and months (p = 0.000). The T-Hg concentrations were significantly higher in May and August 2016, which corresponds to the dry season. The presence of landfills promotes large accumulation of T-Hg in the aquatic biota and represents a risk to human health. However, seasonal changes in T-Hg levels were observed. In the wettest period, bioconcentration factor levels decrease in aquatic organisms.

Abstract
Shrimp of Farfantepenaeus californiensis (78 groups) and Litopenaeus stylirostris (14 groups) were caught in the northwestern fishing zones in Mexico during the 2014-2015 fishing season (September-February); both shrimp species have high commercial value. Muscle, hepatopancreas and exoskeleton were analyzed to determine their metal contents. For F. californiensis, the highest Cd, Pb and Zn contents were determined in specimens caught off the State of Baja California Sur (BCS) with 22.4 ± 8.9 (hepatopancreas), 2.83 ± 4.63 (muscle), and 748.5 ± 1567 (muscle) µg/g, in the regions off Mulegé, Los Cabos and Los Cabos, respectively. For L. stylirostris, the fishing zone of Comundú (BCS) showed higher Cd (12.3 ± 11.5 µg/g), Cu (569.1 ± 646.5 µg/g) and Zn (549.7 ± 400.7 µg/g) contents; all values were determined in the hepatopancreas. Regarding the hazard quotient and total hazard quotient calculated in this study, the consumption of marine shrimp caught off NW Mexico does not represent a risk to human health (both < 1).

Abstract
Metallothioneins content was investigated in digestive gland of two wild-caught Norway lobster Nephrops norvegicus populations from the Northern Adriatic Sea, in relation to body size, season and gender. Concomitant accumulation of cadmium, mercury, arsenic, lead, chromium and manganese, reactive oxygen species concentration and energy reserves in digestive gland were also assessed. While differences between genders were not recorded, metallothioneins content seasonal trends were affected by body size. Most of parameters displayed inconsistent trends across sampling sites. Significant correlation between metallothioneins content and cadmium, arsenic and mercury concentrations was recorded only for larger lobsters. A negative correlation of reactive oxygen species concentration and metallothioneins content was observed for small, but not large lobsters. Energy reserves, in particular lipids, could considerably influence biochemical and chemical parameters variations. The present results constitute the essential baseline for future studies aimed at evaluating the N. norvegicus health in relation to metal contamination of coastal sediments.
