Abstract
This study systematically investigates the residue changes, processing factors (PFs), and relation between the physicochemical properties of pesticides during peanut processing. Results revealed that peeling, washing, and boiling treatments removed partial or substantial pesticide residues from peanuts with PFs of 0.29-1.10 (most <1). By contrast, pesticides appeared to be partially concentrated during roasting, stir-frying, and deep-frying peanuts with PFs of 0.16-1.25. During oil pressing, 13 of the 28 pesticides were concentrated in the peanut oil (PF range: 1.06-2.01) and 25 of the pesticides were concentrated in the peanut meal (1.07-1.46). Physicochemical parameters such as octanol-water partition coefficient, degradation point, molecular weight, and melting point showed significant correlations with PFs during processing. Notably, log Kow exhibited strong positive correlations with the PFs of boiling, roasting, and oil pressing. Overall, this study describes the fate of pesticides during multiproduct processing, providing guidance to promote the healthy consumption of peanuts for human health.

Abstract
Elaborating on the fate tendency of thifluzamide (thiazole-amide fungicide) in buckwheat based on nationwide application is vital for grain security and human health based on nationwide application. A rapid and sensitive analytical method was developed to trace thifluzamide in buckwheat matrices using an ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (UHPLC-MS/MS), with a retention time of 2.90 min and limit of quantitation (LOQ) of 0.001 mg/kg. Thifluzamide could be stably stored for 84 d in buckwheat matrices under -20 °C under dark condition. The occurrence, dissipation and terminal magnitudes of thifluzamide were reflected by the primary deposition of 0.02-0.55 mg/kg, half-lives of 12-14 d, and highest residues of 0.41 mg/kg. The long-term risks (ADI%) of thifluzamide were 37.268 %-131.658 % in registered crops, and the risks for the rural population were significantly higher than those of the urban population. The unacceptable dietary risks of thifluzamide should be continuously emphasized for children aged 2-7 with an ADI% values of 100.750 %-131.658 %. A probabilistic model was further introduced to evaluate the risk discrepancy of thifluzamide in buckwheat, showing the risks in Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tararicum Gaerth) were 1.5-75.4 times than that in sweet buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench). Despite the low risks for dietary buckwheat, the high-potential health hazards of thifluzamide should be pay more attention given the increasing applications and cumulative effects.

Abstract
Elaborating on the fate profiling and risk magnitude of butralin during large-scale applications was conducive to agroecosystems sustainability and dietary rationality. Occurrence, dissipation and concentration variation of butralin were elucidated from garlic cultivation to household processing by tracing UHPLC-MS/MS within 2 min, with regard to original depositions, half-lives, and terminal magnitude in typical origins of garlic. The processing factors (Pfs) of butralin were further clarified among washing, stir-frying and pickling of garlic crops, and pickling was the most effective way for butralin removal with a Pf of 0.092. A probabilistic model with Pfs was further introduced for the comprehensive risk estimations, by reduction factors of 3.1-10.9 from raw garlic crops to processed products. The short-term risks of butralin from green garlic were greater than those between garlic shoot and garlic, with the %ARfDs of 0.030 %-6.323 % from 50th to 99.9th percentiles. The long-term risks were inversely correlated to the age of the population, whose location in rural (%ADIs, 0.256 %-0.768 %) suffered more serious exposures than in urban (%ADIs, 0.231 %-0.699 %). High potential risk amplification should be continuously emphasized given the increasing applications and persistent fate of butralin, especially for vulnerable rural children.

Abstract
A ratiometric electrochemical sensor based on a carbon paste electrode modified with quinazoline-engineered ZnFe Prussian blue analogue (PBA-qnz) was developed for the determination of herbicide butralin. The PBA-qnz was synthesized by mixing an excess aqueous solution of zinc chloride with an aqueous solution of precursor sodium pentacyanido(quinazoline)ferrate. The PBA-qnz was characterized by spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. The stable signal of PBA-qnz at +0.15 V vs. Ag/AgCl, referring to the reduction of iron ions, was used as an internal reference for the ratiometric sensor, which minimized deviations among multiple assays and improved the precision of the method. Furthermore, the PBA-qnz-based sensor provided higher current responses for butralin compared to the bare carbon paste electrode. The calibration plot for butralin was obtained by square wave voltammetry in the range of 0.5 to 30.0 µmol L-1, with a limit of detection of 0.17 µmol L-1. The ratiometric sensor showed excellent precision and accuracy and was applied to determine butralin in lettuce and potato samples.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pesticide residues are frequently found in leguminous plants; however, no modeling approaches predict residue concentrations in edible legume seeds. In this study, a geocarpic fruit model, simplified for neutral organic compounds, was proposed for high-throughput simulations (over 700 pesticides) of the residue uptake by peanut plants, which characterized three scenarios, namely (i) pesticide foliar application during the pre-seed development stage, (ii) foliar application during the seed development stage, and (iii) soil contamination before plant germination. RESULTS In the foliar application scenario, in general, lipophilic pesticides have high simulated residue unit doses (RUDs, residue concentrations in plants per 1.0 kg ha-1 of pesticide application) in peanut leaves owing to intensified uptake via surface deposition, whereas hydrophilic pesticides have high simulated RUDs in peanuts because the uptake of residues via diffusion is enhanced. For the soil-contamination scenario, organic compounds with moderate lipophilicity have a high bioconcentration potential (i.e. the soil-plant system) in leaves and peanuts, due to large transpiration stream concentration factors (TSCFs) that boost the uptake via transpiration. CONCLUSIONS The simulation results have some degrees of agreement with field measurements, indicating that the proposed model can be used as a screening tool for dietary risk assessment of pesticides in peanuts. In future research, pH-dependent physicochemical properties (e.g. soil-water partition coefficient and TSCF) and degradation rate constants of chemicals need to be refined to improve the simulation analysis. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Butralin is a widely used dinitroaniline herbicide. Butralin residues in vegetables or fruits represent a threat to human health. In this study, we developed a rapid and sensitive gold-based lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) for butralin detection in tomato and green pepper samples based on a screened monoclonal antibody (mAb) against butralin. The mAb possessed a half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 12.7 ng/mL, with no cross-reactivity toward other dinitroaniline herbicides. The established LFIA strip had a visible limit of detection (LOD) of 50 ng/g and a cut-off value of 2000 ng/g in tomato and green pepper samples. According to the calibration curves for quantitative analysis, the calculated LODs of the LFIA strip were 4.7 ng/g and 4.3 ng/g in tomato and green pepper, respectively. The results were obtained within 10 min. The average recoveries ranged between 95.4% and 109.6% with a coefficient of variation (CV) of 4.3% to 7.1% in tomato samples and between 94.8% and 109.1% with a CV of 3.9% to 6.1% in green pepper samples. These data suggested that our proposed LFIA is a sensitive, specific, and reliable method for the rapid detection of butralin in real samples.

Weed Control, Growth, Nodulation, Quality and Storability of Peas as Affected by Pre- and Postemergence Herbicides. HORTICULTURAE 2021. Abstract
Weeds represent a major constraint for successful pea cultivation, resulting in loss of green pea yield and quality. Two field experiments were carried out during the winter seasons of 2018/2019 and 2019/2020. The objectives of the current study were to evaluate the efficacy of pendimethalin, butralin, fluazifop butyl, bentazon, and hoeing on weed control, and their impact on pea growth, nodule formation, yield, quality, and storability. The results indicated that hoeing and fluazifop butyl were the most effective treatments for weed control in terms of the lowest values of total weed dry weight. The bentazon and fluazifop butyl herbicides didn’t affect active nodules number, plant height, plant weight, root length, or number of leaves and branches. Additionally, bentazon and hoeing resulted in the highest total yield per plant and protein content. Butralin and pendimetalin achieved the lowest yield, and butralin also resulted in the lowest plant height and weight. Bentazon-treated peas had the highest chemical compositions in terms of chlorophyll, carotenoids, total sugar, and vitamin C contents in pea pods at harvest and during cold storage at 4 °C and 95 RH for 45 days. No detectable residues of the four herbicides under study were detected in green pods, suggesting that pods can be safely consumed at the time of harvesting. It can be concluded that nodules formation in pea was not affected significantly by the application of the tested herbicides, except pendimethalin and butralin. Furthermore, bentazon had a positive impact on nodules formation and pods quality and could be used effectively for controlling the broadleaf weeds, and it was simultaneously a selective and safe herbicide in pea cultivation.

Abstract
A modified electrode was developed with Co-Ag bimetallic nanoparticles stabilized in poly(vinylpyrrolidone) for butralin monitoring. This is the first non-mercury electrode proposed for the quantification of butralin. The bimetallic nanoparticles were characterized by spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, which showed that they are composed of a cobalt core partially covered with silver. The modified electrode was characterized by field emission gun scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The experimental parameters (pH, supporting electrolyte, accumulation step, pulse technique) were optimized. The calibration plot for butralin obtained by square wave voltammetry was linear in the range of 0.1-1.0 μmol L-1 with limits of detection and quantification of 32 and 106 nmol L-1, respectively. Lastly, the modified electrode was effectively implemented in the quantification of butralin in honey and apple jam samples. The results were in agreement with those furnished by UV-vis spectrometry and endorsed by statistical tests.
