Determination of iron(III) by room temperature ionic liquids/surfactant sensitized fluorescence quenching method

A New Coumarin-Acridone Compound as a Fluorescence Probe for Fe3+ and Its Application in Living Cells and Zebrafish

A new coumarin-acridone fluorescent probe S was designed and synthesized, and the structure was confirmed with ¹H/¹³C NMR spectrometry, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and high-resolution mass spectrometry. This probe has high sensitivity and selectivity for Fe³⁺ over other testing metal ions at 420 or 436 nm in acetonitrile-MOPS (3-Morpholinopropanesulfonic Acid) buffer solution (20.0 μM, pH = 6.9, 8:2 (v/v)). Under physiological conditions, the probe displayed satisfying time stability with a detection limit of 1.77 µM. In addition, probe S was successfully used to detect intracellular iron changes through a fluorescence-off mode, and the imaging results of cells and zebrafish confirmed their low cytotoxicity and satisfactory cell membrane permeability, as well as their potential biological applications.

Environmental Application, Fate, Effects, and Concerns of Ionic Liquids: A Review

Ionic liquids (ILs) comprise mostly of organic salts with negligible vapor pressure and low flammability that are proposed as replacements for volatile solvents. ILs have been promoted as "green" solvents and widely investigated for their various applications. Although the utility of these chemicals is unquestionable, their toxic effects have attracted great attention. In order to manage their potential hazards and design environmentally benign ILs, understanding their environmental behavior, fate and effects is important. In this review, environmentally relevant issues of ILs, including their environmental application, environmental behavior and toxicity are addressed. In addition, also presented are the influence of ILs on the environmental fate and toxicity of other coexisting contaminants, important routes for designing nontoxic ILs and the techniques that might be adopted for the removal of ILs.

Applications of micelle enhancement in luminescence-based analysis

Micelles are self-assembled aggregates that arrange themselves into spheres in aqueous media. When the surfactant concentration reaches the critical micelle concentration, extensive aggregation of the surfactant monomers occurs to form micelles. A micelle has both a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic part. This allows them to form a spherical shape and for their glycolipid and phospholipid components to form lipid bilayers. The importance of micelles is increasing because of their wide analytical applications. Recently, colloidal carrier systems have received much attention in the field of analytical chemistry, especially in luminescence enhancement applications.

Spectral properties of 4-(4-hydroxy-1-naphthylazo)benzenesulfonic acid and its application for colorimetric determination of trace Fe3+

A multifunctional dye, 4-(4-hydroxy-1-naphthylazo)benzenesulfonic acid was identified and synthesized and used to determine trace Fe³⁺ in three real environmental water samples. The mechanism of action between the dye and Fe³⁺ ion is discussed in detail.
