Abstract
Whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonance was created in a spherical micro drop. A gradual shift in the resonance were observed. For a 600 nm droplet radius, the blue shift were 1.5, 0.7, 3.7 nm. It was estimated that such a shift corresponds to a reduction in optical radius of the droplet by 1.3, 0.6, 3.3 nm respectively. The droplet was created from a solution of glycerol, methanol and rhodamine 6G dye, and was trapped and levitated in a modified Paul trap. The WGMs were created by optically exciting the dye material from an external 532 nm cw laser beam. A shift in the WGM was observed during a gradual increase in power of the excitation laser, and a reason for such a shift was thought to be thermal evaporation of the liquid. For a larger droplet an initial 0.1 nm thermal expansion was also estimated, preceding the volume contraction. Such an expansion was negligible for a smaller droplet. The rate of change of the blue shift depends upon initial radius of the droplet. For the smaller droplet the estimated rate of change of WGM with a change in optical radius, was 0.771. For larger droplet, this rate is lower.

Abstract
A liquid droplet can act as a microscale high-Q optical cavity via a whispering gallery mode, where light resonates with enhanced intensity. A collision of two droplets temporarily exhibits a unique morphology, which provides a more effective optical cavity than a single droplet. We investigated the mechanisms of cavity-enhanced fluorescence in colliding droplets of aqueous rhodamine 6G. Laser-excited spectra and fluorescence generation times were acquired. The fluorescence spectra had two peaks: one attributed to amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) and the other to lasing. The lasing generation time had a longer delay relative to that of ASE, which indicated that it required a longer propagation distance for the positive feedback. Overall, this provides a basis for the development of a highly efficient dye laser using colliding droplets.

Abstract
Malachite green (MG) is a dye that has been presented to use as photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy (PDT). Nonlinear absorption coefficient (β) and nonlinear refractive index (n2) of MG formulations with micelles and its encapsulation are studied aiming PDT. Encapsulation of MG was prepared by the mixture of water droplet in the continuous phase of oil, stabilized with surfactant. MG interacts with micelles and reverses micelle (RM), and the results are related to the size and concentration of micelles, RM, surfactant charge types. At low capsule size, the 1/β linearly increases by the increase of volume fraction of water droplet, while, an exponential behavior was observed in the higher capsule size.

Abstract
In the present study a biocompatible oil-in-water (O/W) microemulsion was developed carrying short-wave infrared (SWIR) π-conjugated polymers and possessing photoacoustic properties for the first time. SWIR and NIR absorbing conjugated polymers were accomplished to be dissolved in a Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved natural oil limonene, to formulate an O/W microemulsion using biocompatible surfactants (Span80, Labrasol®). Detailed structural characterization in the absence and presence of the polymers was performed by means of dynamic light scattering (DLS), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. In terms of biological evaluation of the loaded microemulsions, inhibition of cell proliferation in various cancer cell lines without exhibiting significant cytotoxicity was tested through the MTT assay. The developed π-conjugated polymers hosted in O/W microemulsions represent a technological approach with a wide range of biomedical and bioelectronic applications and in this contribution, their photoacoustic properties are presented as a proof-of-concept.

Abstract
Microemulsions provide a unique opportunity to tailor the polarity and liquid confinement in asymmetric catalysis via nanoscale polar and nonpolar domains separated by a surfactant film. For chiral diene Rh complexes, the influence of counterion and surfactant film on the catalytic activity and enantioselectivity remained elusive. To explore this issue chiral norbornadiene Rh(X) complexes (X=OTf, OTs, OAc, PO2 F2 ) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography and theoretical calculations. These complexes were used in Rh-catalyzed 1,2-additions of phenylboroxine to N-tosylimine in microemulsions stabilized either exclusively by n-octyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (C8 G1 ) or a C8 G1 -film doped with anionic or cationic surfactants (AOT, SDS and DTAB). The Rh(OAc) complex showed the largest dependence on the composition of the microemulsion, yielding up to 59 % (90 %ee) for the surfactant film doped with 5 wt% of AOT as compared to 52 % (58 %ee) for neat C8 G1 at constant surfactant concentration. Larger domains, determined by SAXS analysis, enabled further increase in yield and selectivity while the reaction rate almost remained constant according to kinetic studies.

Abstract
By introducing the dye Rhodamine 6G (R6G) into a metal-organic framework (MOF), Mn-sdc-2 (H2sdc = 4,4'-stilbenedicarboxylic acid), with a pore size of 20 × 9.8 Å2, the composite R6G@Mn-sdc-2 was obtained. Subsequently, the MOF Mn-sdc-1 with a smaller pore size of 7.5 × 7.5 Å2 can be formed through a single-crystal to single-crystal transformation from Mn-sdc-2, thus tightly locking the dye R6G within the pores. Compared with R6G@Mn-sdc-2, R6G@Mn-sdc-1 exhibits a stronger fluorescence emission of R6G. Because the MOF Mn-sdc-1 can reversibly transform back to Mn-sdc-2 in the presence of trace water, the dye R6G can be released. This enables R6G@Mn-sdc-1 to be used as a new luminescent sensor for trace water in organic solvents by monitoring the fluorescence intensity of released R6G. The limit of detection can reach 0.035% in ethanol (v : v), which is among the most sensitive fluorescent water probes.

Abstract
The present study investiaged the enhancement of nonlinear optical properties of Protoporphyrin IX in photodynamic therapy using nano-droplet. To this end; absorbance, fluorescence, and nonlinear optical properties of Protoporphyrin IX were examined and results showed that dye aggregation and dielectric constant of solvent could change absorbance and fluorescence spectra. According to quantum mechanical perturbation theory, dipole moment of Protoporphyrin IX in solutions of water-ethanol was extracted. The values of nonlinear absorption and nonlinear refractive index of Protoporphyrin IX in AOT/Toluene/H2O were also reproted to be larger than aqueous solutions, due to polarity reduction of solvent as well as discount of Protoporphyrin IX aggregation in AOT/Toluene/H2O. Furthermore, the effect of cell culture media on the nonlinear optical properties of Protoporphyrin IX was analyzed and the results were compared with those of water. The photon correlation spectroscopy of solution also showed a growth in dye-droplet aggregation following the increase of Protoporphyrin IX concentration.
