Interaction of Folic Acid with Mn2+ Doped CdTe/ZnS Quantum Dots: In Situ Detection of Folic Acid

A Highly Sensitive and Selective Fluorescent Sensor for Folic Acid Detection Based on D-penicillamine Stabilized Ag/Cu Alloy Nanoclusters

In this work, a highly sensitive and selective method for detecting folic acid (FA) was developed using D-penicillamine (DPA) stabilized Ag/Cu alloy nanoclusters (DPA@Ag/Cu NCs). The yellow emission of DPA@Ag/Cu NCs was found to be quenched upon the addition of FA to the system. The fluorescence intensity quenching value demonstrated a linear relationship with FA concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 1200 μM, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 5.3 nM. Furthermore, the detection mechanism was investigated through various characterization analyses, including high resolution transmission electron microscopy, fluorescence spectra, ultraviolet-visible absorption spectra, and fluorescence lifetime. The results indicated that the fluorescence quenching induced by FA was a result of electron transfer from FA to the ligands of DPA@Ag/Cu NCs. The selectivity of the FA sensor was also evaluated, showing that common amino acids and inorganic ions had minimal impact on the detection of FA. Moreover, the standard addition method was successfully applied to detect FA in human serum, chewable tablets and FA tablets with promising results. The use of DPA@Ag/Cu NCs demonstrates significant potential for detecting FA in complex biological samples.

Recent Progress in Folic Acid Detection Based on Fluorescent Carbon Dots as Sensors: A Review

Folic acid (FA) is a water-soluble vitamin found in diverse natural sources and is crucial for preserving human health. The risk of health issues due to FA deficiency underscores the need for a straightforward and sensitive FA detection methodology. Carbon dots (CDs) have gained significant attention owing to their exceptional fluorescence performance, biocompatibility, and easy accessibility. Consequently, numerous research studies have concentrated on developing advanced CD fluorescent probes to enable swift and precise FA detection. Despite these efforts, there is still a requirement for a thorough overview of the efficient synthesis of CDs and their practical applications in FA detection to further promote the widespread use of CDs. This review paper focuses on the practical applications of CD sensors for FA detection. It begins with an in-depth introduction to FA and CDs. Following that, based on various synthetic approaches, the prepared CDs are classified into diverse detection methods, such as single sensing, visual detection, and electrochemical methods. Furthermore, persistent challenges and potential avenues are highlighted for future research to provide valuable insights into crafting effective CDs and detecting FA.

Nitrogen-doped carbon dots as a fluorescent probe for folic acid detection and live cell imaging

The folic acid (FA) level in human body can be used as an indicator for body's normal physiological activities and offer insight into the growth and reproduction of the body's cells. But the abnormal level of FA can cause some diseases. Herein, we designed a simple and convenient approach to prepare fluorescent N-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) for the FA detection. These N-CDs have excellent hydrophilicity, high photostability, and outstanding biocompatibility, as well as excitation-independent emission behavior with typical excitation/emission peaks at 295 nm/412 nm. Upon the existence of FA, the fluorescence emission spectrum of N-CDs was significantly quenched through the synergy of static quenching mechanism and internal filtering effect (IFE). Under optimal conditions, the limit of detection was 28.0 nM (S/N = 3) within the FA concentration range of 0-200.0 μM. In addition, N-CDs were successfully employed to detect FA in real samples such as urine and fetal bovine serum (FBS), with a recovery rate of 99.6%-100.7% for quantitative addition. Furthermore, cell experiments confirmed the low toxicity and the cell imaging performance of these N-CDs, indicating that the obtained N-CDs could be served as a credible quantitative probe for FA analysis in the field of biosensing.

Pb2+ Responsive Cu-In-Zn-S Quantum Dots With Low Cytotoxicity

Water-soluble Cu-In-Zn-S quantum dots (CIZS QDs) with orange fluorescence have been synthesized with a glutathione (GSH) as stabilizer via facile a one-step hydrothermal method. The optimal reaction conditions of CIZS QDs including temperature, time, pH, and the molar ratios of precursors were studied. TEM results indicate that the aqueous-dispersible CIZS QDs are quasi-spherical, and the average diameters are 3.76 nm with excellent fluorescent stability. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity of CIZS QDs was investigated by the microcalorimetry combining with TEM and the IC 50 was 10.2 μM . CIZS QDs showed a promising perspective in applications such as a fluorescent probe for bioimaging and biolabeling due to the low cytotoxicity and good biocompatibility. Moreover, the CIZS QDs can distinguish Pb2+ ion from other ions, offering great potentials in lead ion determination in drinking water. According to the results of UV, XRD, FL, PL, and ITC methods, the mechanism of CIZS QDs-Pb2+ assay is due to hydrogen bonding or van der Waals forces in the formation of Pb2+ and CIZS QDs.

Quantum Dot Sensitized Solar Cell: Photoanodes, Counter Electrodes, and Electrolytes

In this study, we provide the reader with an overview of quantum dot application in solar cells to replace dye molecules, where the quantum dots play a key role in photon absorption and excited charge generation in the device. The brief shows the types of quantum dot sensitized solar cells and presents the obtained results of them for each type of cell, and provides the advantages and disadvantages. Lastly, methods are proposed to improve the efficiency performance in the next researching.
