Mixed Micellization and Interfacial Properties of Nonionic Surfactants with the Phenothiazine Drug Promazine Hydrochloride at 30 °C

Interaction of TX-100 and Antidepressant Imipramine Hydrochloride Drug Mixture: Surface Tension, 1H NMR, and FT-IR Investigation

Interfacial interaction amongst the antidepressant drug-imipramine hydrochloride (IMP) and pharmaceutical excipient (triton X-100 (TX-100-nonionic surfactant)) mixed system of five various ratios in dissimilar media (H₂O/50 mmol·kg⁻¹ NaCl/250 mmol·kg⁻¹ urea) was investigated through the surface tension method. In addition, in the aqueous solution, the ¹H-NMR, as well as FT-IR studies of the studied pure and mixed system were also explored and deliberated thoroughly. In NaCl media, properties of pure/mixed interfacial surfaces enhanced as compared with the aqueous system, and consequently the synergism/attractive interaction among constituents (IMP and TX-100) grew, whereas in urea (U) media a reverse effect was detected. Surface excess concentration (Γ_max), composition of surfactant at mixed monolayer (X1σ), activity coefficient (f₁^σ (TX-100) and f₂^σ (IMP)), etc. were determined and discussed thoroughly. At mixed interfacial surfaces interaction, parameter (β^σ) reveals the attractive/synergism among the components. The Gibbs energy of adsorption (ΔGadso) value attained was negative throughout all employed media viewing the spontaneity of the adsorption process. The ¹H NMR spectroscopy was also employed to examine the molecular interaction of IMP and TX-100 in an aqueous system. FT-IR method as well illustrated the interaction amongst the component. The findings of the current study proposed that TX-100 surfactant could act as an efficient drug delivery vehicle for an antidepressant drug. Gels can be used as drug dosage forms due to recent improvements in the design of surfactant systems. Release mechanism of drugs from surfactant/polymer gels is dependent upon the microstructures of the gels and the state of the drugs within the system.

Interactions of phenothiazine drugs with surfactants: a detailed physicochemical overview

Phenothiazine drugs have been the subject of great interest due to their interesting aggregation properties and ability to interact with surfactants, model lipid bilayers, and biomembranes. Since these drugs show enormous pharmacological actions and deposits on the biomembranes, their pharmacological activities seem to be related to the drug-membrane interactions or to the absorbability on the membrane. Further, the mechanisms for the various biological activities of phenothiazines can be explained by exploring these drug-membrane interactions. Keeping these points in view, many researchers have investigated the interactions of these drugs with surfactants. This review describes the physicochemical aspects of the interactions between phenothiazine drugs and surfactants which have been discussed under three sections: (i) micellar and interfacial studies, (ii) spectroscopic studies, (iii) phase separation studies (CP) and (iv) miscellaneous.

Role of 1-methyl-3-octylimidazolium chloride in the micellization behavior of amphiphilic drug amitriptyline hydrochloride

The mixed micellization behaviour of amitriptyline hydrochloride (AMT) with ionic liquid (IL) 1-methyl-3-octylimidazolium hydrochloride, [C8mim][Cl], have been investigated using electrical conductivity, at different temperatures. The non-ideal behaviour (i.e., synergistic interaction) of AMT-[C8mim][Cl] binary mixtures, explained by the deviations in critical micelle concentration (cmc) from ideal critical micelle concentration (cmc*) and micellar mole fraction (X(m)) from ideal micellar mole fraction (X(ideal)) values. The values of interaction parameter (β) and activity coefficients (f1 and f2), also confirm the synergistic interaction. The excess free energy (ΔGex) for the AMT-[C8mim][Cl] binary mixtures explains, stability of mixed micelles in comparison to micelles of pure, AMT and [C8mim][Cl]. The calculated thermodynamic parameters (viz., the standard Gibbs energy change, ΔGm(∘), the standard enthalpy change, ΔHm(∘), the standard entropy change, ΔSm(∘)), suggest the dehydration of hydrophobic part of the drug at higher temperatures (>313K), not only in case of AMT but also in the presence of [C8mim][Cl].
