Abstract
An efficient, three-component reaction of aldehydes and benzofuran-3-ones was developed. This process provides a new approach for the preparation of synthetically and biologically important spirobenzofuran-3-one derivatives with moderate-to-good yields under mild conditions. A switch of intramolecular to intermolecular domino Michael-aldol-lactonization leading to differential product formation was achieved by different NHCs catalysis.

Abstract
Structurally diverse biflavonoids have attracted significant research interest for drug discovery over past decades. Biflavonoid oriented phytochemistry research on the stems of Daphne kiusiana var. atrocaulis (Rehd.) F. Maekawa was carried out, which resulted in the identification of ten major effective components (1-10), including the undescribed biflavonoids, daphnodorin Q (1), daphnodorin R (2) and flavane, daphnekiuslin A (10). The known structures were identified from this herb for the first time. Their structures were determined by combination of multiple spectroscopic data as well as calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD). All the identified compounds were evaluated for the anti-neuroinflammatory effects. Compound 9 could inhibit the overactivation of BV-2 cells induced by lipopolysaccharide with IC50 value at 26.32 μM.

NHC-Catalyzed Organocatalytic Asymmetric Approach to 2,2-Disubstituted Benzofuran-3(2H)-ones Containing Fully Substituted Quaternary Stereogenic Center. Catalysts 2019. Abstract
A highly efficient and enantioselective approach to the synthesis of functionalized benzofuran-3(2H)-ones is presented. It proceeds via an intramolecular Stetter reaction using β,β-disubstituted Michael acceptors in the construction of five-membered rings with fully-substituted quaternary stereogenic centers and is promoted by terpene-derived triazolium salts. As a result, a series of chiral 2,2-disubstituted benzofuran-3(2H)-one derivatives with linear, branched, and cyclic aliphatic substitutions on the quaternary stereogenic center were obtained in high yields and with excellent enantioselectivities of up to 99% ee.

Abstract
Homoisoflavanone-1 is a natural compound that may be extracted from the Chinese medicinal herb Polygonatum odoratum, which has pronounced antioxidant activities. The present study reports that homoisoflavanone-1 significantly inhibited tumor cell growth and induced apoptosis in A549 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells in a dose-dependent manner. Homoisoflavanone-1 arrested the cell cycle at the G2/M stage, which was associated with an increase in the accumulation of phosphorylated (p-)p38, p38, p53, and p-cyclin dependent kinase (Cdc)2 proteins, as well as a decrease in Cdc2 expression. In addition, treatment with homoisoflavanone-1 increased the levels of active caspase-3 and decreased Poly ADP-ribose polymerase, which was accompanied by a reduction in the B-cell lymphoma-2/Bak ratio and consequently, apoptosis. Furthermore, homoisoflavanone-1 increased the expression of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-related proteins, including PERK, ATF4 and GADD34 in a dose-dependent manner. In conclusion, homoisoflavanone-1 induced apoptosis in A549 cells by regulating the mitochondria-caspase-dependent and ER stress pathways and resulted in G2/M arrest by activating the p38/p53 signaling pathway. These findings suggest that homoisoflavanone-1 extracted from Polygonatum odoratum may function as a cancer-suppressing agent and has potential as a novel therapeutic method against NSCLC.

Abstract
Chromone skeletons are widespread among natural products as well as bioactive molecules. Here, we describe an unprecedented reaction of furo[3,4-b]chromen-9-one with malononitrile to afford 3-(tetrahydrofuran-2-yl)-4H-chromen-4-ones. Experimental data suggest that a sequence of Michael/retro-Michael/nucleophilic addition is involved in this unprecedented transformation.
