Abstract
PURPOSE This study assessed health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of long-term breast cancer (BC) survivors diagnosed at early stages and compare with cancer-free, age-matched women. METHODS The study population included BC survivors diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) or breast cancer stages I-II, who had undergone lumpectomy/mastectomy, with time since diagnosis ranging from 9 to 16 years. Survey was conducted at two tertiary hospitals in 2020. Data for cancer-free female controls was randomly drawn from a population-based survey and age-, education-matched with 1 case: 3 controls ratio. Self-reported HRQoL was assessed using EQ-5D with five dimentions. EQ-5D utility index score was calculated. Difference in EQ-5D score was evaluated using the Tobit regression model with adjustment for other covariates. RESULTS Of 273 survivors. 88% and 12% underwent mastectomy and lumpectomy, respectively. The mean (standard deviation, SD) age at survey was 57.3 (8.5) years old. BC survivors reported significantly more problems performing daily activities (11% vs. 5%, p < 0.001), pain/discomfort (46% vs. 23%, p < 0.001), and anxious/depressed feelings (44% vs. 8%, p < 0.001) relative to the controls. Difference in EQ-5D score between BC survivors and the general population was higher in older age groups. The overall EQ-5D score of BC survivors was statistically lower than that of the control subjects (adjusted [Formula: see text]=0.117, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Long-term BC survivors who survived beyond ten years post-diagnosis experience more pain, anxiety, and distress, leading to an overall poorer HRQoL. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS This study suggest the importance of follow-up care, particularly focusing on pain, anxiety, and distress management to enhance the HRQoL of long-term BC survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression is a common condition among cancer patients, across several points in the disease trajectory. Although presenting higher prevalence rates than the general population, it is often not reported or remains unnoticed. Moreover, somatic symptoms of depression are common in the oncological context and should not be dismissed as a general symptom of cancer. It becomes even more challenging to track psychological distress in the period after the treatment, where connection with the healthcare system typically becomes sporadic. The main goal of the FAITH project is to remotely identify and predict depressive symptoms in cancer survivors, based on a federated machine learning (ML) approach, towards optimization of privacy. METHODS FAITH will remotely analyse depression markers, predicting their negative trends. These markers will be treated in distinct categories, namely nutrition, sleep, activity and voice, assessed in part through wearable technologies. The study will include 300 patients who have had a previous diagnosis of breast or lung cancer and will be recruited 1 to 5 years after the end of primary cancer. The study will be organized as a 12-month longitudinal prospective observational cohort study, with monthly assessments to evaluate depression symptoms and quality of life among cancer survivors. The primary endpoint is the severity of depressive symptoms as measured by the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (Ham-D) at months 3, 6, 9 and 12. Secondary outcomes include self-reported anxiety and depression symptoms (HADS scale), and perceived quality of life (EORTC questionnaires), at baseline and monthly. Based on the predictive models gathered during the study, FAITH will also aim at further developing a conceptual federated learning framework, enabling to build machine learning models for the prediction and monitoring of depression without direct access to user's personal data. DISCUSSION Improvements in the objectivity of psychiatric assessment are necessary. Wearable technologies can provide potential indicators of depression and anxiety and be used for biofeedback. If the FAITH application is effective, it will provide healthcare systems with a novel and innovative method to screen depressive symptoms in oncological settings. Abstract
Purpose Survival rates after colorectal and anal cancer are increasing and more patients have late complications to treatment. This represents a clinical field under development, and we have established a specialized clinic for late complications after colorectal and anal cancer. With this paper, we want to give our experiences and present the organizational setup with a nurse as the primary contact person. Methods We have established a multidisciplinary clinic for the treatment of late complications and the clinic is organized with specialized nurses as the front persons. The structure includes a stepwise increase in expertise level when needed, and the patient has one common entry regardless of symptoms. Initial screening is performed by an electronic questionnaire which is followed up by a consultation with the nurse. The nurse can provide primary treatment according to local algorithms developed in the clinic and refer the patient to more specialized care if needed. Results Experiences from the first year of service show that more than half of the patients needs this and wants consultation in the late complication clinic. We also found that most of the consultations were performed successfully by phone instead of by physical visits, and the most common clinical problem was bowel symptoms including diarrhea and urge. Conclusion We have established a nurse-led clinic for late complications after colorectal and anal cancer. There seems to be a high need for this function in a department taking care of colorectal and anal cancer.

Abstract
Background: Suffering from Solid Cancer (SC) may adversely impact the Health-related Quality of Life (H-QoL). The aims of this study are to measure the H-QoL in a sample of people suffering from SC and to clarify the role of the co-occurrence of depressive episodes. Results were compared with a healthy control group and with groups of other disorders. Methods: In 151 patients with SC (mean±sd age 63.1±11.5; female 54.3%), H-QoL was assessed by SF-12, depressive episodes were identified by PHQ-9. The attributable burden of SC in impairing H-QoL was calculated as the difference between SF-12 score of a community sex and age ¼ matched healthy control group and that of the study sample. The attributable burden of SC was compared with other chronic diseases using specific diagnostic groups drawn from case-control studies that used the same database for selecting control samples. Results: H-QoL in people with SC was significantly worse than in the healthy control group (p<0.0001). The attributable burden in worsening the H-QoL due to SC was similar to those of severe chronic diseases, but lower than Multiple Sclerosis (p<0.0001) or Fibromyalgia (p<0.00001). Having a depressive episode was a strong determinant of decreasing H-QoL, regardless of the severity of cancer. Conclusion: The findings confirm a strong impact of SC but showed that H-QoL in SC was higher than in chronic diseases with better “quoad vitam” outcome. Since depression was a strong determinant, its prevention, early detection and therapy are the main objectives that must be reached in cancer patients.

Abstract
Background Depression is more prevalent in breast cancer (BC) survivors than in the general population. However, little is known about depression in long‐term survivors. Study objectives were: (1) to compare the age‐specific prevalence of depressive symptoms (a) in BC survivors vs female population controls, (b) in disease‐free BC survivors vs BC survivors with self‐reported recurrence vs controls, and (2) to explore determinants of depression in BC survivors. Methods About 3010 BC survivors (stage I‐III, 5‐16 years post‐diagnosis), and 1005 population controls were recruited in German multi‐regional population‐based studies. Depression was assessed by the Geriatric Depression Scale‐15. Prevalence of mild/severe and severe depression only were estimated via logistic regression, controlling for age and education. Multinomial logistic regression was used to explore determinants of mild and severe depression. Results Compared with population controls, BC survivors were more likely to report mild/severe depression (30.4% vs 23.8%, p = .0003), adjusted for age and education. At all age groups <80 years, prevalence of both mild/severe and severe depression only was significantly higher in BC survivors, while BC survivors ≥80 years reported severe depression less frequently than controls. BC survivors with recurrence reported significantly higher prevalence of mild/severe depression than disease‐free survivors and controls, but prevalence in disease‐free survivors and controls was comparable. Age, income, living independently, recurrence, and BMI were significant determinants of mild depression in BC survivors. Age, education, employment, income, recurrence, and BMI were significant determinants of severe depression. Conclusions Long‐term BC survivors <80 years report significantly higher prevalence of depressive symptoms than controls, which might be explained by recurrence and individual factors. The findings suggest that depression in BC survivors is common, and even more after BC recurrence. Clinicians should routinize screening and normalize referral to psychological care.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: There are two operative approaches for adenocarcinomas of the esophagogastric junction: thoracoabdominal esophagectomy or transhiatal extended gastrectomy. Both procedures can be performed minimally invasively. Dependent on the exact localization of the tumor, both approaches are feasible. Aim of this study was to compare the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of patients after minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) with patients who underwent minimally invasive gastrectomy (MIG). Methods: All patients who underwent MIE or gastrectomy for malignoma since 2014 were identified from our clinical database. The identified patients were contacted and asked to fill out a quality of life questionnaire (QLQ) for general and gastrointestinal QOL (European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer QLQ-C30 and QLQ-OG25). Results: Global HRQOL scores were higher in patients after MIE than after MIG. After MIE, global HRQOL scores were close to the control population. In cancer-specific syndromes, patients after MIE reported lower symptom scores for financial problems, eating, reflux, and eating with others than patients after MIG. Conclusion: In terms of HRQOL, MIE proved superior to MIG in long-term follow-up in this study. Patients after MIE reported a HRQOL close to that of a healthy reference population.
